Size/Length of a String/XML Data

All,
Is there any built-in-function available in BPEL to find the length/size of an String/XML Data?
Or any work around if any.
Thanks
Ramana.

Chintan,
Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I was using the String-length() to find the length of the file.
Actually I had requirement on compressing the input file. Here I want to get the size of the file before and after compressing the it.
I guess I try using the Java Embedding to find the size (Didn't try this option), but I am looking for any built-in-function if available.
Thanks
Ramana.

  • Best method to transfer large strings (XML data) to/from stored procedure

    Hi!
    I'm trying to call a PL/SQL procedure from Java. The procedure inputs a string (XML) that is parsed, and returns a result string (also XML).
    Typical size of the string is 5kb -> 1mb.
    I can see two possible solutions:
    1) String / LONG
    2) CLOB (Using DMBS_LOB.createTemporary and getting a CLOB locator and passing the locator to the stored procedure)
    Does anyone have other suggestions?
    What is the fastest method for transferring XML structures from to and from stored procedures?
    Anders

    Anders,
    I would say it depends on your requirement. Both the methods have some advantages and disadvantages.
    Using a CLOB means that you have to use vendor specific libraries but this is more extendible and I fast too.
    Using String/Long will be more portable in the long run but again you lose on speed/performance.
    Just a doubt of mine... If I got it correct, you are transforming one XML to another XML based on some conditions. Why dont you use XSL and XSL StyleSheet Processor packaged with XDK for this? I think this would be the fastest way.
    Hope this helps.

  • Converting hexadecimal XML data to a string

    Hello!
    Until now I generated XML data with the FM 'SDIXML_DOM_TO_XML'.
    After that I did a loop over the xml_as_table in which I was casting each line of that table to a string.
    ASSIGN <line> TO <line_c> CASTING.
    After the inftroduction of unicode in our system I get a error:
    In the current program an error occured when setting the field symbol <LINE_C> with ASSIGN or ASSIGNING (maybe in combination with the CASTING addition).
    When converting the base entry of the field symbol <LINE_C> (number in base table: 32776), it was found that the target type requests a memory alignment of 2
    What does it mean? Does somebody have a solution.
    I need this function for sending this XML data as string over a simple old CPIC connection.

    The short answer is no.  This is because the index is an I32.  NI likes to keep integers as an I32 whenever possible for reasons like this.
    Since you are dealing with a 2D array (width and height), it will actually use 2 I32s before the actual data.
    As Ravens stated, you could put in your own array sizes before the array in the string.  But it is worth saving 6 bytes?  Not likely.

  • How to parse a string containing xml data

    Hi,
    Is it possible to parse a string containing xml data into a array list?
    my string contains xml data as <blood_group>
         <choice id ='1' value='A +ve'/>
         <choice id ='2' value='B +ve'/>
             <choice id ='3' value='O +ve'/>

    There are lot of Java XML parsing API's available, e.g. JAXP, DOM4J, JXPath, etc.
    Of course you can also write it yourself. Look which methods the String API offers you, e.g. substring and *indexOf.

  • Xml data considered than strings character in«append»&«insert-aft»operation

    Hello,
    I use BPEL10.1.3.1. Here is my problem. I recuperate in a database a CLOB data type :

    I insert this CLOB data type in a new variable "compteRenduXml" (type : simple type, xsd language). When I visualize my "compteRenduXml" variable, it is a xml data (that's OK).
    I am trying to insert the "compteRenduXml" variable after the <b>…</b> operation :

  • Read/get xml data (string)

    Hi
    I have a XML string that I get from a TCP transfer, I have attached a received string.
    I have no experience in reading XML data, I have tried looking in the forums and some of the examples in LV, but I cannot get it to work, so I hope that someone could help me out. All I need to get from the XML data are the names e.g. Station1 and Station2 perhaps putted into a string array. If so it wouldn't hurt to get all the rest parameters and attributes as well. I thought about doing some string searches to get what I need, but thought again that it might be easier/better in some way to take advantage of the data being arranged as XML.
    Hope that someone can help.
    Thanks in advance

    The easy way is if you know that this string is not changing much you treat it as a formated string and parse it using simple string functuions
    ie first parse %s and %s The two slashes will cancle the escape clause of the string parser.  Repete this process to get each station and attributes.
    The harder way is to use an activeX or .net XML parser.

    I am not sure what you mean about the parser, well I get the concept, but is there a specific string function that can do that for me?
    I got something working with the Match Pattern vi, please the attached. This actually works for my current needs, but I still would be able to get data from more complex XML data.

    EasyXML looks like a nice and handy tool for handling XML data. I ran in too some problems though when running the VI Package Manger. When I check the network for new packages it says that there was an error, please check the network connection or settings. I have internet connection (I am writing this post ) and I am not using a proxy server. What could be wrong and how do I install EasyXML then, is there another way?

    I have table with one million rows, when i am using xml path ('Root'), it giving me an error
    "XML operation resulted an XML data type exceeding 2GB in size. Operation aborted."
    This is a limitation of sqlserver. I have to xml path because i have to create nodes and attributes. In more complex case i will be joining multiple tables to get id and other attributes so combining multiple xmls in not an option here.
    any workaround....thanks in advance

    Here an example of your query that retrieve record in batch of 2 records. In real code, you should save the last id retrieved and call the query in a loop.
    DECLARE @BATCHSIZE AS integer
    SET @BATCHSIZE = 2
    DECLARE @LASTID As Integer
    SET @LASTID = 0
    select top(@BATCHSIZE) id as "@id"

    select id as "@id"
    ,name as "@name"
    select *

    group by id,customer_id,name
    for xml path ('product'),Root('products'),type
    from @customer cs
    where cs.client_id = c.id

  • JAXB: Read XML data from a String?

    Hi,
    I get XML data not from file but as a string and I wanted to use JAXB to parse it and get my Java Objects.
    The unmarshall methods wants an "InputStream", but "StringBufferInputStream" is deprecated, so that I don't know a way to use my String as InputStream.
    Can someone give me a hint other then writing the data in a file first?

    Hi FrankSch,
    The unmarshall methods wants an "InputStream", but
    "StringBufferInputStream" is deprecated, so that I
    don't know a way to use my String as InputStream.
    Can someone give me a hint other then writing the data
    in a file first?Yes, the class StringBufferInputStream is deprecated, and the deprecation notice reads:
    Deprecated. This class does not properly convert characters into bytes. As of JDK 1.1, the preferred way to create a stream from a string is via the StringReader class.
    The JDK API usually mentions an alternative to the deprecated method/class and in this case, you should use java.io.StringReader. It has one constructor and should suite you nicely:
    StringReader(String s) That way, you get an InputStream object; you can now use JAXB.

  • Have XML data in a string, can't extract it to the XML bean class

    Hi Kunnev,
    Lets say I have an xsd
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <xs:schema
         xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
         xmlns:bea="http://www.bea.com/xmlbeans/Sample.xsd"
         targetNamespace="http://www.bea.com/xmlbeans/Sample.xsd"
         elementFormDefault="qualified"
         attributeFormDefault="unqualified">
    <xs:element name="Person">
    <xs:complexType>
    <xs:sequence>
    <xs:element name="FirstName" type="xs:string" />
    <xs:element name="LastName" type="xs:string" />
    </xs:sequence>
    </xs:complexType>
    </xs:element>
    </xs:schema>
    Now after I compile this I would get XMLBean classes
    Like Person is a xmlBean class. The code snippet below shows how I can convert
    a string into a xmlbean of type Person.
    XmlOptions xopt = new XmlOptions();
    xopt.setDocumentType(Person.type);
    Person x0 = (Person) XmlObject.Factory.parse(
    "<xml-fragment>" +
    "<FirstName>desc---1</FirstName>" +
    "<LastName>desc---2</LastName>" +
    "</xml-fragment>", xopt);
    Person pp = (Person)x0;
    Now pp is a XMLBean object which can be added to the tree.
    Let me know if you have any questions.
    Thanks a lot,

    My logic is as below:
    v_handler:= DBMS_XMLGEN.newContext(v_xml_query);
    --Sets NULL handling options
    DBMS_XMLGen.SetNullHandling(v_handler, dbms_xmlgen.EMPTY_TAG ) ;
    --Set special character handling
    DBMS_XMLGEN.setConvertSpecialChars(v_handler, TRUE);
    -- Specified whether to use an XML attribute to indicate NULLness of particular entity in the XML document
    DBMS_XMLGen.useNullAttributeIndicator(v_handler,TRUE);
    -- set Checking invalid chars
    DBMS_XMLGEN.setCheckInvalidChars(v_handler, TRUE);
    -- get the xml data as required
    v_xml_data:= DBMS_XMLGEN.getXMLtype(v_handler);
    SELECT XMLROOT(v_xml_data.extract('/*'),VERSION '1.0').getClobVal() into v_new_xml_Data from dual;
    -- get the length of the xml generated
    v_clob_len := dbms_lob.getlength(v_new_xml_Data);
    FND_FILE.PUT_LINE(FND_FILE.LOG,'The Clob length is :'|| v_clob_len);
    -- logic to process string more than 32767 Processing by each character
    v_offset :=1;
    while (v_offset <= v_clob_len)
    LOOP
    v_char := dbms_lob.substr(v_new_xml_Data, 1, v_offset);
    IF (v_char = CHR(10))
    then
    fnd_file.new_line(fnd_file.output, 1);
    else
    fnd_file.put(fnd_file.output, v_char);
    end if;
    v_offset := v_offset + 1;
    END LOOP;
    FND_FILE.PUT_LINE(FND_FILE.LOG,'The offset is :'|| v_offset);
    FND_FILE.NEW_LINE(FND_FILE.OUTPUT, 1);
    THe above logic is for character by character which is a performance burden? Please let me know if there is any other work around for this

    Hi,
    Thanks for Replying. I have refered http://blog.oraclecontractors.com/?p=69 and then i added that piece of code. Basically, i'm trying to generate a report using XML publisher. To generate the XML data i'm writing a pl/sql package with SQl/XML functions. DBMS_XMLGEN would help me convert the XML Data as is. When the concurrent program runs this XML data will merge with RTF layout and generate required report. I'm able to generate the Report for data less then 32767 bytes. More than the limit i need to pass chunks of XML data to read as output. That's the reason i'm using fnd_file.output. But it reads only 32767 size at a time.
    WHen i use the given logic, it works perfectly fine, but it loops for each character, for example if you have 30,000 characters it loops the same, which is peformance burden.
    So i tried to write the logic of chunks but still i get the error that XML tag is not found or missing. I'm hoping this is very common issue, but after all my trails, i didn't find the right solution.
    the other logic i tried was :
    v_new_xml_data varchar2(32767)
    v_iterations := CEIL(v_clob_len/v_chunk_length); -- v_chunk_length is 32767 and v_clob_length is length of the XML data stored inthe clob variable
    For i in 0..v_iterations
    LOOP
    FND_FILE.put_line (fnd_file.log,'the loops v_pos :'||i||' and v_clob_length :'||v_clob_len);
    v_new_xml_data := DBMS_LOB.SUBSTR ( V_XML_DATA,v_chunk_length,(i*v_chunk_length)+1);
    FND_FILE.PUT_LINE (FND_FILE.OUTPUT,v_new_xml_data); -- read the output for every 32767 chunks
    FND_FILE.PUT_LINE(FND_FILE.LOG, 'Chunk length is :'||((i*v_chunk_length)+1));
    END LOOP;
    FND_FILE.put_line (fnd_file.log,'out of loop');
    FND_FILE.put_line (fnd_file.log,'length of new xml is '||v_clob_len);
    Please, let me know if you need Further clarifications on the same.

  • XML Data Source

    Advanced column Types support:
    Formatting support for xml columns types, date / timeInstant : XML Simple Types columns can be defined in xml schema to specify the format for date/timeInstant types column in XML Data Source. Based on the format string mentioned in XML schema XMLPDS will parse the XML Stream and
    convert the XML Data to Report specific format.
    simpleType : dateformatColumn :
    <xsd:simpleType name='dateformatcolumn'>
