Skinning TextInput (and others) changes text position

Hi there,
I've been working on updating the visuals of our application and one path I took was skinning components. There's a designer in our team that works well with Photoshop and Flash (but not with Flex or programming at all), so I sent him the link of Narciso Jamarillo's article on creating skins for Flex using Adobe Creative Suit.
Although we had few troubles working over the default template for HaloSkin at first, we kinda figured out most of them. But now there's one problem I couldn't find a solution yet. Whenever I apply the skins he made, the components that show text like TextInput and ComboBox start showing text in the wrong position, a little above the center and closer to the borders (sometimes it gives the impression it cuts out characters when I align the text at right).

So I'd like to know what exactly has influences over text position when I create a skin in flash, or any hint on what is causing this behavior.

I asked the designer to check in Flash and all grid lines are in proportional distance (4 pixels from edge). I also asked him to create a new skin from template, without any changes, and it displayed the same behavior, so I don't think it's a scale 9 slice configuration problem.
Could you elaborate what kind of "minor tweaking" I could do on Flash? I ask because we just changed the shapes and and the 9 slice scale grid, is there anything else you could setup for a skin?

How to send images and other colored text in email body

Hi
We are using SAP CRM 4.0 and we would like to send email to our customers using actions configured for activity. Our objective is to send Marketing Emails containing <u>Images and Color texts</u> in the BODY OF THE email and not as a PDF attachment.
The only relevant provision we could see in SCOT is either Text or PDF. On using text , we are loosing all images and color. The PDF option works , but the email generated is a blank email with PDF document as attachment.
We want the matter to be inserted in the body of the email and not as attachment.
Please do let us know if any one has faced similar situation and is there a resolution.

Are you pasting in the HTML code?
You can't use the formats in the CRM editor to set bold text, etc. You have to use the HTML code and have set the Form up as Internet mail

A bare minimum is your email has to have the <HTML> tag at the top, but it's advisable to be sure you have a more complete setup like this:

Lines around type and other type/text problems in Dreamweaver CS3

Dear Dreamweaver forum:
Good news/bad news,
First the good news…
My thanks to a forum member by the name of Mylenium. With Mylenium's advice I have improved my halo problem by including a black background when I save type in Illustrator CS3 as part of importing it into Dreamweaver CS3.
However, the bad news, is that I’m still having type and text problems.
Problem area 1
Now, in Dreamweaver, I’m getting lines appearing around the type.
I am dragging and dropping the .gif type file into a Dreamweaver Div Tag.
How do I get rid of the lines around the type so that they do not show up in the Safari browser?

Problem area 2
I cannot drag and drop text from a Word .doc file into a Dreamweaver div tag.
I also cannot copy and paste Word .doc text into a div tag.
How do I include text on my webpage without having to manually type it in?

From within Dreamweaver CS3, how do I place text? Dragging and droppign the file does not work.
This is screenshot of what I see so far when I use Safari to test what I have made so far in Dreamweaver CS3.
I get lines around type.........not usually a good thing.........How do I fix it?
The way I created the portfolio type in IllustratorCS3 using the File > Save for Web and Devices. I then imported the resulting .gif file so that it was within my root folder within the Files panel within Dreamweaver CS3.
Am I doing this right?

The problems you are experiencing with the image text, (why are you using image text, these days?) is probably cause by the image having a border when created in illustrator, or the image size being set incorrectly.

On the mac it is a little more complex, save your word doc as html, then apply the 'clean up word html files', (see - http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/9.0/help.html?content=WSc78c5058ca073340dcda91 10b1f693f21-7ef5.html) copy the relevant text and mark-up from the word html file, and paste into your html document in the required position.

Upgrade to 6.0i from 4.1 causes timing and other changes

I have recently installed 6.0i and want to continue development of the system I started on 4.1. The system is much, much slower on 6.0i and acts differently then on 4.1. A quick(hopefully) overview of the system:
I'm using a PC-DIO-96. The system consists of three main VIs. 'IO test Program.vi' is the user interface and takes care of calling the other VIs and displaying the results. 'init pattern check.vi' is the first part of the test. It will receive a walking 1's pattern from the outputs of the UUT. It compares it with a spreadsheet file and verifies that the outputs of the UUT can be used for the second part of the test. The outputs from the UUT are simulated from a pattern generator within 'init pattern check.vi' and looped from port 3 to port 0 physically, as the UUT is not available yet. The second part of the test is done using 'command mode.vi'. It receives a 8 bit number from the UUT (also generated by the program itself for now) and de-multiplexes it to the 64 output bits which go back to the UUT. The command FF means the test was successful, FE is a failed test. These can be generated as well to simulate.
Okay, now the system ran fine on 4.1. My test pattern could go as fast as 7 ms with a timeout of 500ms in the sub VI, or if I ran it from the top VI, it would need to be 5000ms to be reliable (unless the sub vi window was open in the background, then 500ms worked as well). When I converted them to 6.0i, the warnings I received all concerned data range coercion, which I didn't know I was using, so it shouldn't make a difference. The system now runs extremely slow. Just changing from the front panel to the block diagram takes about 4 seconds, where in 4.1 it didn't take more than .5 sec. When running from the top VI, every second time you run the test, all the bits fail. This shouldn't happen, and I can't figure out why. In the second part of the test, while watching with a logic analyser, bit 64 seems to be stuck on almost all the time.
I'll attempt to attach the files to this message. By the way, this is my first attempt at using LabView for anything, so if it looks like a beginner did it, it's true. Any help or advise you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

This issue sounds like the PC is busy. Make sure that each loop has a
delay in it. Once that is fixed, other parts may work better.

Calendar and other apps text unreadable

Since I've upgraded to maverick I basically can't read any mail and the calendar is completely useless.
I'm so disappointed, that the upgrade was free, like if it was heavely racomended!

The same thing occurs for mail and many other applications. Luckily the browsers seems immune to this, but basically every other app are like that.
Do I have to change something?

BUG? Keywords (and other changes) made in bridge don't show up in lightroom

When I put keywords to images in Bridge _after_ editing them in lightroom, they never show up in lightroom.
And seems like color labels doesn't change if I try to do it in Bridge. Bridge shows new color label, lightroom shows old one.
and no, image is not open in lightroom when giving keywords in bridge.

I do not have that problem, but I am sympathetic to how much you dislike the LR keywording system. You would think Adobe would adopt a single system for all their related apps?
The best way i found to deal with it is to have both apps write to the xmp suidecars(for RAW)and to make sure there is a copy of ACR 3.7 8bi in the file format folders of all Adobe apps that I interchange files to and from. Presumably, by the time Bridge 2 and PS CS3 are out of Beta, all three apps will be on the same page using ACR 4.
My setup does work without a hitch--but I do not like the LR keywording at all. Like many attributes of LR, it is simplistic and largely designed for the new or casual user (and those that shoot or process the same category of images day in and day out (weddings, etc), rather than for someone with an existing, large DB and established workflow--and hundreds of diverse subject images a day to do!
I do all my keywording, renaming, and initial sorting and culling in Bridge CS3, and it goes at least two to three times faster than using LR for those workflow functions, and that is not due to inexperience with LR, but rather to far better workflow design for those functions in Bridge- tabbed, rather than a slider, driven interface for "developing" in bridge is also part of that better design.
I am using LR for its Develop module only--all the other modules fall far short of what I need and presently use--especially the Library--and doing that simply because Bridge 2 has a terrible memory leak and numerous beta bugs and interfaces more poorly with beta PSCS3 than LR (and that is not to say that LR does a sterling job at at all) for the moment
Maybe Adobe can get the Bridge and LR teams together over lunch and politely (but firmly)tell them to get the best of the common features from each into both.

Shortcut and other changes from CS3 to CS4

Hi, first of all I think CS4 has some great features and improvements, and the reason Im posting is because I want to use it. Theres a few things im trying to do though that i used to in CS3, and havnt found how. Already went though a few CS4 online training videos and none.
So if you know please HELP, if you know if CS4 doesnt allow it anymore. Please let me know. many thanks!
1. In curves, I use to toggle from one point in the curve to another with control + tab, how can I do this with CS4?
2. In CS3 i turned off to have a white default mask with every adjustement layer. With CS4 i followed the same step to do this in the panel opstions, but they still keep appearing. They wont go!!
3. In CS3 I used a lot to drag the cursor over the image and know where in the curve I will be affecting. In CS4 I cant seem to be able to do that but by turning on that new feature to drag the adjustement curve from the image (which is nice) but if its the only way to do this (not sure of this) how can I leave that new feature on by default? and not have to turn it on with every curve i create.
I will leave it here in the meanwhile.

Many thanks for your responses, but so far my question remains unanswered. And that was the purpose of this post, not anything else.
I do use masks a lot. But most of the time, thats 90% of it, I use them in group sets, not the adjustment layer itself. I prefer it this way, and this is the way I worked on CS3.
I recently printed 110 prints for Magnum that is being exhibit in Germany, and Im currently working on the retouching for a Phaidon photo book. So its not like I started Photoshop last week. Although almost every day I learn something new. And Id like to have my adjustment layer masks on the group sets like in CS3. Nothing out of this world.
Is it possible with CS4 like CS3 or not? If it is, how? If not, darn, but I'll survive.
Those are my questions if anyone please.

However, the horizontal text positioning is still different. The first letter starts too far to the right and the overall text is wider. How can I reproduce the XAML correctly in the GDI+?
To give some background: I have a WPF application that can print using WPF/XPS technology. Since this print path gives quality problems on many legacy printer driver (bad image resolution due to a bug in the XPS to GDI+ conversion), I am building an
alternative print engine based on the GDI+. So effectively, I need to convert my WPF graphics to the GDI+.

How to listen and obtain caret positions of changed text in JTextPane?

I have a JTextPane that displays text with some styles on particular words in the text. For example, I highlight words with red color if they are in my dictionary file. I use regular expression to find matches, replace them with their corresponded definitions, and call setCharacterAttributes to add styles to the definitions. I store all start and end caret positions of the matched words/definitions in a vector. So, I can redisplay styles of all previous matches.
The problem is that I'd like to be able to edit the text of some previous matches. So, with those changes all caret positions that I already store in the vector need to be updated.
How can I obtain caret positions of changed text in JTextPane?
How can I know that a user is currently changing text in the JTextPane?
How can I get style of text such as color that is being changed?

Is it possible to change the position of beining of text in a standard report

I am wondering wether it is possible to change the position of the test (the starting point) in a standard report. I would like to print a label with different texts at different positions. If its not possible in a standard report is there any other way to do it.

Hi Mudda, I don't see any way myself to set any particular starting position for your text. It looks like the best way to emulate this behavior would be to add a new line with lots of tab characters or spaces to place your new text at a specific offset from the left. You can also use Append Table to Report and wire in a 2D string array with only a few positions filled in with your various text labels as shown below. This will space text labels pretty well across the page. Try it out and see if it works for you. You could be more clever and build the 2D array programmatically if you wanted more control over position.

[JS, CS3] Need help changing tabStop positions of selected text

Hi all,
I am writing a script to nudge the tabStop positions of selected text by one point at a time. Sometimes it will be only a tab character selected, and other times it could be several in the paragraph or maybe even the whole story. The problem I am encountering is that when I reference the tabStops as app.selection[0].tabStops it includes ALL the tabStops in the paragraph and NOT just the selected ones. Is there a way to get just the selected tabStops and add a point to their positions? It must be that my referencing is flawed. Thanks for any help.

Hi Len,
That's not a bad approach, but remember that there may be more tab characters than there are tab stops. I was thinking of getting the location of the selected tab stop relative to the left edge of the text frame (or column, if you're working with multi-column frames) and then comparing it to the location of the tab stop. But I think your approach will work just as well and be quicker.
Also, remember that when you start moving tab stops around, the index of the tab stop within the tab stops collection can change. If you have tab stop A at 12pt and tab stop B at 16pt, then tab stop A will be item(0) and B will be item (1). But if you move A to 24pt, A will become item(1) and B will be item(0). The index of the tab stop is relative to its location on the tab ruler.

Changing text field (need more positions) of variant ZUK01 in FF67

I am using a variant called ZUK01 in FF67. In that variant I have a Line item text field, but with not enough positions.
Is it possible to change the field properties so I can change the positions of the field?
I want to use the variant but need to feel in more text then I have positions.
Is it possible to change it? So yes where can I find it?

You could go to OT43 tcode (screen variant maintenance for manual bank statement); double click on your variant and note down your Field name (for text); then click on "Technical names" and note down the table and field for that field name. Then, from SE11; you can find out how many characters that field (data element) allows. Then, you can talk to ABAP team member for the possibilities: to enhance that data element or use another field for your purpose.
