Slave notes in mainstage

Does anyone know how to assign slave notes in mainstage? For instance, I need to press once key but then want about 6 to sound. Do I need to setup a patch to do this?
Is this possible with just mainstage or do I need to set something up in logic?
Thanks.

describe your whole setup exactly - what midi input devices, drivers, audio i/o hardware and drivers, what mac model, etc.
I've never heard hung notes in MS, after a lot of playing. So it's strange that you see it so often.
Use MIDI Monitor from versiontracker.com and see if you are getting a Note off message - you can filter the view, probably, to only show note ons/offs, and make it really easy.
I always use MIDI Monitor, a superb app, to verify any MIDI problems.

  • [SOLVED] dzen2 click areas in slave not working

    Hi,
    I am using dzen2 from official repos with openbox. I do not seem to be able to use clickable areas in slave windows. Moreover, if multiple lines are specified, the title click area does not respond
    This works
    (echo "^ca(1, echo 'TITLE')TITLE^ca()") | dzen2 -p -l 5
    This doesn't
    (echo "^ca(1, echo 'TITLE')TITLE^ca()"; echo -e "one\ntwo\nthree") | dzen2 -p -l 5
    neither does this.
    (echo "TITLE"; echo "^ca(1, echo 'SLAVE')SLAVE^ca()") | dzen2 -p -l 5
    What am I doing wrong?

    Using dzen2-git from AUR solves this issue. Can anyone else please confirm this so that the wiki can be updated?

  • MAINSTAGE 2.2: Sustain pedal triggering E3 note on MainStage and making notes get stuck

    Hey guys! I've been having issues recently with my MS and can't find to know why. I want to start of with a detailed list of what I'm using to know if this helps.
    - MacBook Pro OS X 10.9 (8gb RAM and intel 2.26 core 2 DUO)
    - MainStage 2.2. (32 bit)
    - Keyboard controller (I normally don't take a keyboard with me but instead use my Macbook Pro to trigger sounds through MS and use the KB just as a controller, but normally I use Yamaha Motif KB's - this actually varies!)
    - MIDI-IN and OUT to USB cable
    - Normal, regular sustain pedal (FYI, checked that polarity is on the correct possition already!)
    - Korg NanoPAD 2
    - Korg NanoKONTROL 2
    - USB splitter to connect (NanoPAD 2, NanoKONTROL 2 and MID-IN and OUT TO USB cable)
    - Apoogee Duet 2 (connected to the most powerful USB port)
    So here's the issue and what I've done to try to fix it (Troubleshooting) and also, what I know that is not affecting MS as in connections, hardware and routing processes.
    ISSUE:
    Every time I press the sustain pedal it triggers E3 note and it toggles between Sustain and this E3 note.
    Every time I try to ASSIGN the sustain pedal in LAYOUT mode, press the ASSIGN button, hold and release the sustain pedal, it toggles between "Sustain" and "E3" noted assigned to the sustain pedal
    TROUBLESHOOTING:
    - I've made sure that the sustain pedal is connected to the right input on the back side of the KB (controller)
    - I've made sure that the polarity is correct (switched it just in case - not working still!)
    - In LAYOUT mode I ASSIGNED the pedal correctly to my sustain pedal (when it is on "Sustain" it is still triggering this E3 note)
    - I've tried going through "ASSIGNMENTS & MAPPINGS" down to "PORT 1 USB2.0-MIDI" wich is the MIDI port that is shown on my MacBook Pro, and verify that it is showing "64 (Sustain)" as the mapped assignment and "SEND TO ALL" parameter (so it is triggered through all of my sounds)
    - I've tried going to WORKSPACE and manually MAP PARAMETER the sustain pedal, but when I do this, it still shows that E3 note is being triggered.
    - I've tried a clean boot of MS (same thing)
    - I've tried a OS X clean boot (same thing)
    - I've tried changing the MIDI-IN and OUT USB cable (3 different ones)
    - I've tried connecting ONLY (NO SOUND DEVICE or Korg Nano devices nor USB splitter device connected) the MIDI-IN and OUT USB directly to the computer and into different USB ports (still the same thing!)
    - I've tried different sustain pedals
    What are your thoughts guys? Do any of you guys know how to fix this or have exp. this before? This is really strange and I'm actually thinking that it might be my Macbook Pro USB ports that are going crazy! One thing that I noticed is that sometime ago the MIDI DEVICE that was shown on "MIDI STUDIO" in System preferences was named after "USB MIDI CABLE" and now it is not available to use. Instead, now it is showing as "USB2.0-MIDI" and that's the one that is being used by my Mac. An interesting thing is that when I try "TEST" in MIDI STUDIO and play my KB, it does nothing .... no sound is heard as a MIDI signal being fed to my Mac.
    PLEASE HELP! Need to fix this URGENTLY!!!
    Blessings!
    H

    If we can't figure out why it's sending a note on command, let's just find a way to make it stop. First, go to layout mode, select the sustain pedal, and make your settings manually(don't press the assign button). Set it as you described above.
    In Layout mode: (when toggled to sustain pedal)
    Screen Control Inspector
    Hardware Input
    Device: Port 1 USB2.0-MIDI
    Channel: Channel 1
    Type: Press/Release
    Number: 64 (Sustain)
    MIDI thru: Automatic
    Send Value to: None
    Next, copy the sustain pedal control(the easiest way is command>C then command>V). It will look like this:
    Select the new pedal and manually set it to:
    In Layout mode: (when toggled to sustain pedal)
    Screen Control Inspector
    Hardware Input
    Device: Port 1 USB2.0-MIDI
    Channel: Channel 1
    Type: Note On/Off
    Number: C-2
    MIDI thru: Do not pass Through
    Send Value to: None
    The idea is to send that unwanted note the the lowest note(0) so it won't be in the way. I don't know if it will work for you, but it's worth a try.

  • CC to Midi Notes in Mainstage????

    Hi all,
    I've set up an instance of EXS24 at concert level of MainStage to a second controller. I'm doing this so I can run a 6 second loop of pads in the background no matter what patch I am using.
    Problem is I need to latch this note so that i can switch the pads on and off, and EXS24 doesn't accept CC information to trigger samples, it needs notes. But this doesn't help as you can't latch notes (?), but you can latch CC info...and I can't map those pads to a button on something like a NanoKontrol or some other midi controller.
    Is there a script i can put on the EXS channel strip to receive CC and send it to EXS as a midi note?? This would allow me to then also latch that button (one I would create on the layout) and then hit it again to turn the pad off.
    I'm up for whatever solution you guys might have, nothing is too out of the box..... I've been losing sleep over this issue for days now.
    thanks.....

    This might work:
    function HandleMIDI(event)
      if(event instanceof ControlChange)
      var number = event.number;
      if((number >= 23) && (number <= 38))
      var velo = event.value;
      var on = (velo > 64)? new NoteOn : new NoteOff;
      on.pitch = 36 + number - 23;
      on.velocity = velo;
      on.send();
    If a controller between 23 and 38 is received, it's converted  to a not on, if the value is greater than 64, otherwise it's a note off.
    Best,
    DaCaptain

  • Mainstage 2 not loading mainstage 1 files properly

    Hi there, running a 2008 macbook pro 15", 4gb ram. Had no problems installing the logic studio 2009 upgrade, logic's working fine. But Mainstage 2 won't load my old Mainstage files, keeps saying the files are corrupt. If the file does load, it is all fouled up. I just had to revert back to mainstage 1 with my backup drive. Any thoughts?

    I have the same problem.
    a) MS2 reports that MS1 files are corrupted or in a wrong format. Still I can open those files in MS1
    b) Where in MS2 is the menu command "Import Layout". In my MS2 in File-menu is no option for importing???
    I can post an Apple-template Concert (Keyboards/Assortment) that was immediately saved under MS1 (and still can be opened there) but crashes MS2! This bug is repeatable (you can open it in MS1 as many times as you like but still it crashes MS2).
    I think I have to wait for the MS2 to be corrected...

    You would only save about 500MB by deleting MS 2.1.3. You may find it useful to keep the application, or perhaps to make a zip and then delete the original

  • Audio input volume in System Preferences, but not Mainstage

    Hi,
    I am trying to get Mainstage 2 to work with an audio interface (TASCAM US-122 MKII). I've installed the drivers for the interface, and it shows up on my system both in System Preferences under Audio and in Mainstage. When I go to system preferences -> Audio and play an instrument through the interface, volume registers on the level meter. But if I go to Mainstage and select this interface as my input, I get no volume levels registering at the input.
    I've been trying to get this to work for going on six hours now, googling and installing and restarting to no avail. I have the same problem with Garageband too. Has anyone had this happen to them, that an audio interface seems to be recognized by the operating system but not by Mainstage/Garageband?
    Thanks,
    - Nick

    I can't help, other than to say this happened to me today with the same hardware, only with GarageBand.
    I recorded bass tracks this morning -- no problem. This afternoon, though, every time I plugged in the Tascam GarageBand went silent, even though the system input shows sound coming in.

  • Mainstage, stuck and truncated notes

    I am getting a ton of stuck notes with Mainstage. The other thing that is happening is that certain sounds truncate sometimes (only during a performance). I am using a Macbook Pro with plenty of RAM and the most recent version of Mainstage. Please help!

    Thank you so much for replying!
    I am going between 2 interfaces depending on the gig. An MAudio 2626 Firewire unit and a Focusrite Scaret 21 USB. I am using direct USB connection for the Yamaha Motif 6 and a wireless USB for the Vortex keyboard. I can not replicate the truncation issue at home, but I get stuck notes all the time. BYW, the vortex rarely causes stuck notes, but sounds triggered by the Motif definitely do. This happens with both of my setups, which include other keyboard controllers.
    I just upgraded my RAM to fix some other memory issues in Mainstage, and now that part runs great! But I am wondering if any of this has to do with CPU settings in MS or the CORE settings in advanced prefs. Since I have a 2 core laptop, I guess I assume I would assign only one core to MS, even tho the slider goes up to 8 cores. I am pretty foggy on that stuff, but learning.
    Again thank you for any info or leads.

  • Automatic mapping bug in mainstage slave mode

    Recently we have a setup with ableton (and which we control with a BCR-midi controller).
    As rewire slave we have mainstage 2.1.1 with USB garagekey and a novation remote.
    While we are using the BCR-knobs in Ableton, mainstage seems to have automapped the knobs and buttons to some of our ffx in the ES and B4. Also the main-fader in mainstage seems to be affected. Is there any change to avoid this serious problem? We havnt found a way to turn the BCR off in mainstage.
    Thx!

    in short:
    Is there a way to turn usb-controllers OFF in mainstage?

  • How many musicians can mainstage support at once?

    I have LP8 and will be upgrading to 9 but have never used mainstage. Can only one person at a time use this or could our band run 2 guitars and 1 bass with amp designer, and 4 vocalists (effects) all at once from 1 MacBook pro? Does anyone here do this? How many tracks (if that's what they're called) can you use at once?

    It's not really intended for multiple musicians, but you could make it work.
    The patch changing seems pretty fast in MS2, but you'd have to see how it worked with multiple people playing during the change.
    About the risk you are taking by putting your whole band through the computer - there is always a chance that mainstage will crash or glitch and it's probably more likely the more you stress the machine. Make sure you have a backup plan - maybe another guitar plugged into an amp that you can play with your drummer while someone fixes up the computer. I had to restart mainstage once during a performance and it was probably one of the most uncomfortable silences in my life
    Professional keyboardists who use mainstage will sometimes have two laptops set up for redundancy.
    I'm not bashing mainstage, you just have to be realistic - +you will have a problem with a computer setup.+

  • Where can I get an older version of Mainstage?

    I am a worship leader and would like to use Mainstage to run loops and backing tracks during a live setting. My MacBook is a 2006 A1811 with a core 2 duo processor, running 10.6.8 . It can not download Mainstage 3, where can I get an older version? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

    Older versions of MainStage are no longer available for sale. The _only_ way might be buying a used Logic Studio 2 box which contains MainStage 2.1.3. Quite a pricy endevour for an almost 3 year old application.

  • Either automatic or manual clone clustering not showing DAM images

    Hi all,
    I have 2 servers with CQ 5.4 and CRX 2.2, repository size around 8gb:
    Server 1
    Author :4502 (master)
    Publish : 4503
    Server 2
    *Clustered Publish : 4503 (slave) not showing DAM images.
    * I have tried both automatic clustering (the easier one from the CRX-GUI), and manual clone (cp crx-quickstart -> removed cluster_node.id and edited cluster.properties)
    Why is this happenning?, How can I solve it?
    When I browsed the content of Server 2- clustered publish  4503:crx/index.jsp after the manual clone, the dam assets were already there. Also the size of crx-quickstart folders for author master and publish slave were the same.
    Right now I have running the automatic clustered publish instance 16 hours so far, is showing the pages except DAM images. If I go to CRX/index.jsp it says 503 Internal Server Error.
    Thanks for reading, and will appreciate any help.
    Regards.

    Hi,
    I waited until the synchronising process finished as per the logs, however still the images from DAM are not showing in the clustered slave. If I right click to see any image I got:
    Not Found
    The requested URL /etc/designs/geometrixx/_jcr_content/page/logo.img.png/1282235023667.png was not found on this server.
    This only happens in the slave instance.
    I can add that when I run the master I got this message:
    $> ./start

    22.10.2012 15:36:53 *INFO * Started.
    Is there something else that I should look for?

  • Logic receives MIDI but Mainstage WON'T!

    Sorry this is sort of a repost but not quite...
    *(Midi port working in garageband but not in mainstage)*
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11179374&#11179374
    Mainstage 2.1.1 doesn't receive any MIDI from my controller. Audio-MIDI setup shows everything is fine ("test MIDI setup" plays the little "****" sound).
    I read some of the posts and tried it in 64-bit (No luck).Mainstage 2.1.1 and 2.0 just don't see ANY data! Then I tried Mainstage 1 it finally recognized MIDI!
    So... Logic 9.1.1 and Mainstage 1 receive MIDI, but Mainstage 2 doesn't!
    Really Wierd!

    this program may prove very useful in your troubleshooting
    http://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/
    I've had similar problems when trying to run Logic and MainStage simultaneously. If you don't start MainStage FIRST, then Logic somehow "grabs" the midi feed and won't let MainStage receive midi (though other non-logic-based things seem to still see the midi data (such as the afore-mentioned midi-monitor).
    A couple things to check:
    Audio Midi Setup: make sure there's no goofy routings defined there. Make sure your midi device shows up there, test it, etc.
    Try Making an entirely new account: based on the idea that *something user configurable* is horked up, try this. Go into the control panel and set up another account on the mac ... log into it, try to launch the updated MainStage ... if it works, then you definitely know it's something user-based and not system-based.

  • Can't open Sculpture's editor interface in MainStage

    I can't open the Editor view of the Sculpture plugin in Mainstage. The plugin functions perfectly in Logic, but not in Mainstage.
    When I try to open the plugin the computer slows down for approx 2 mins before opening the Controls view. Everything works in this view and all my presets from Logic are available, but I would like to be able to experiment in the Editor view if at all possible. If I try to select Editor from the view menu the computer again slows down, and then eventually just reopens the Controls window.
    Anyone else have this issue?

    Maybe try deleting the app and reinstalling... Perhaps some of the graphics went missing. It works for me.

  • Can I use MainStage without owning Logic?

    I use Pro Tools and Reaper in the studio, so I won't to jump ship to Logic; simply b/c however nifty it is,  it's not worth the steep time-consuming learning curve.  However, for live performance as a keyboardist, I'm looking for a Mac-based VST host to be controlled by a USB/MIDI keyboard controller, and am wondering if  MainStage might be the way to go.  The price is so cheap, how could I go wrong?  But no matter where I search, I don't get a clear answer to these questions:
    Can I use MainStage without owning Logic?
    For a $29 download, does MainStage also come with all the content (sounds, etc.) for its built-in instruments, or is it assuming you already have those b/c you presumably own Logic?
    This question may need its own separate thread, but: Ideally, my keyboard setups for a "concert" may need as many as five VSTs per song (e.g., custom samples in Kontakt, Wurly, B-3, piano, glockenspiel, whatever) spread out in various discrete layers across a keyboard.  Has anyone tested this more-complex and memory-taxing sort of a setup out in a live situation?
    Thanks for any insight,
    Peter

    If you buy it from the AppStore, YES

    All the instrument and FX plugs are included, and a (massive) additional free download within the Mainstage application will get you all the extra content.

    Caution: Logic/Mainstage will only work with Audio Unit (AU) plugins, NOT VST. Most 3rd party plugs are available as AU plugs, but you need to make sure you have installed them.

    Yes, and memory/CPU issues not withstanding, Mainstage generally works extremely well for this.
