I get the same result using raw devices.
The root device is on slice 6 ; this slice being an LU Boot Environment.
I'm stuck now.Any ideas?
I'll eliminate the non allocated sectors and try again.

Sorry folks. I had failed to check the placing of slice 7... which I had assumed would be placed in the highest cylinder numbers... however, I used a "custom install" facility, which had placed them somewhere else... I failed to notice when I repartitioned the disk.
The filesystem which I "newfs"ed a little chunk out of was blank anyway.
Off to try to bite a chunk out of an operational filesystem now.... idle hands...

Metainit error - overlaps with device in metadevice state database

I have successfully mirrored 3 of 4 partitions on a new install but am having trouble with the last one. It is the swap partition. There are the usual steps I follow:
SWAP (slice 1):
1. metainit -f d11 1 1 c0t0d0s1
2. metainit d12 1 1 c0t8d0s1
3. metainit d10 -m d11
4. edit the /etc/vfstab
5. reboot
6. metattach d10 d12
After step #1, I get the following error:
metainit: tpssol2: c0t0d0s1: overlaps with device in metadevice state database
I check metastat and all the config files and don't see anything wrong.

What platform is this? SPARC or X86 and OS version. This normally happens after a rebuild and you get 2 disk devices with the same ID.

This will display your disks and IDs. If the match, you will need to do the following (this should applies for physical and virtual servers, but I have only tested it on VMware) in this example c1t0d0 and c1t1d0(secondary) are the disks with matching IDs.
#iostat -Ei

State database replicas with no slices available

I want to mirror a boot disk on Solaris 9 Sparc. All slices have file systems on them. Do I need to reformat the disk to make slices available or is there another way? I read some where about reclaiming space from swap but I'm not sure how this creates another slice unless they meant to take the space from swap and add it to a free slice if there wasn't enough space on the free slice.

Well, you can share a slice with a replica and a metadevice. But maintenance of that is really annoying.
If you must, you could do this:
#1 disable swap
#2 put a replica (or replicas) on the swap slice
#3 Create a metadevice on the same slice
#4 Create a mirror metadevice pointing at the one in #3 (if you want)
#5 Enable swap on the mirror metadevice.
You lose some flexibility with this arrangement, but it is functional.
It doesn't have to be swap, but that's the only slice that you can easily shrink/dice whatever on most machines.

State databases for shared storage

When adding a disk to a disk-set (Solaris Volume Manager), it automatically adds a state DB to slice 7 and then of course to the next disk added.
Sun Cluster recommends 3 state databases on each disk of an internal. Is there a recommendation for the shared disks. I know one is added automatically, should it have more?

No, you don't need to an any normally. SVM will automatically balance the replicas across the disks added to the set. The only time you might want to mess with this default allocation is if you want to create a preferenced site. In the case where you have two sites and an even number of disk arrays located across these sites, i.e. nodeA & arrayA in siteA, nodeB & arrayB in siteB, you might want to make site A preferred.
SVM works on the principle of requiring a majority of replicas to allow a diskset to be imported read/write. Mediators help if you have a system failure then at some point later an array failure by allowing the internally held mediator to go 'golden'. However, if you have an instantaneous site failure, then the array and the server are loss simultaneously. The mediator on the remaining site does not go golden. Thus any diskset previously held by the failed site cannot be brought in read-write because there are only 50% of the replicas available (on say arrayB). You can manually delete some 'dead' replicas and get the set imported, but that's not very highly available. Alternatively, you an add an additional replica to siteB's arrayat configuration time and this would give it the majority it needed. However, if site B failed, you are in the same situation! The best option is to have a 3rd site with some of the storage on.
Why does it work this way? Because if you were in the middle of a change to the configuration at the point of failure you might get the wrong info about the disk arrangement on a set switchover and possibly corrupt data. Data corruption is highly undesirable, so SVM protects you by forcing a manual intervention to resolve the issue.

Hi,
I have a macbook with OS X 10.4.11 (Intel procesor) I did install the latest Pockect mac for blackberry version (the current one in the Blackberry's page), i use to use the old one, since I did the updated I can't get that both, device and Mac SYNC any item, no contacts, no calendar...
The message I got last time was:

Can you try synching one PIM database at a time, e.g. just Contacts by itself, so we can determine which database is experiencing the problem? The error you are receiving is likely being caused by one specific database.
Once you have identified the database that is causing problems, can you perform the steps listed below:
1 - Run Data Purge on the affected database. Data purge can be found in the following location:
Mac HD/users/<Home User>/Library/Application Support/PocketMacSyncManager/Additional Tools.
***Please note this utility will delete all information stored in the selected database on your BlackBerry however once the information has been deleted from your device you can reimport the data to your BlackBerry from the application on your Mac.
2 - Run Sync Clean, which can be found in the same folder as Data Purge.
3 - Disconnect the BB from the Mac, remove the battery from the back of the device, wait 10 seconds then reinsert it
4 - Reboot the Mac
5 - Reconnect your BlackBerry to your Mac
6 - Open PocketMac and select Reset All Devices to First Sync State from the Devices menu
7 - Configure synchronization settings for the affected PIM database, choosing the option to Overwrite Device. If the data is successfully transferred to the device, reconfigure PocketMac back to doing a two-way sync.
If you are still running into the same problem after performing the steps above, try synching one category of the affected database at a time. To do this, click on the tab of the database you are trying to sync, click on Advanced Preferences next to the selected application, and choose the option to sync only selected categories. Try synching with only one category selected at a time, just to see if the issue is related to data within a specific category.

Dealing with null values from a database (easy?)

I'm sure this should be a simple question :
I'm creating a dynamic dropdown of my companies products that once a product is selected draws values (links) from a database and displays them (links to User guides, FAQs etc).
My problem is dealing with blank entries in the database - i.e. if a product doesn't have a User guide I've left the database blank.
I'd like to show 'none' or 'not available' if the entry is blank rather than the 'null' I currently get.
I'm sure it should be a straightforward if .... else .... but I'm struggling and would appreciate any help,

I have Lync 2013 and 2010 , still i didn't finish my migration completely from 2010 to 2013 .this is coexistence environment that contains both Lync Server 2010 and Lync Server 2013 .
There was no error's in my lync 2013 front end and back end server's and every thing was fine, yesterday I installed windows updated AND CU for my lync 2013 front end and backend server's .
later on after restarting both the front end and the back end server's i start having hundred's of these error's related to "LS Call Park Service".
so any advice for these issue ? and what is the effect for these error .

How to create logical directories with same name on two databases

Hi,
OS: Windows
Oracle Version : 10g
I have to databases in one oracle home. I have created some logical directories in one database. When I am trying to create logical directories with same name in another database, it is overwriting the first database directory paths with the second one
Can't we create directories with same name but different path in two databases on one machine?
Pls suggest me on this

On DB 1

On DB 2
CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY same_dir_name as 'D:\myoracle\mydir2';
What stops you from doing that ?
Note: If what you have is one database but different connections, then you are connecting to one database. The above second statement will drop and replace with the first one

A database link is a device for connecting between Oracle database instances only. Oracle does have a method for connecting to other database systems (Transparent Gateway) but this is restricted to other commercial databases and I don't believe there is a gateway for Mysql. (I could be wrong)
I don't know Mysql but maybe there is some way to push data to the Oracle instance. Other than that, is there any reason why the data has to reside in the Mysql database?

Can I use tape drive for backup with win 2012 OS & Sybase database?

I have installed enhancement package 6 for SAP ERP 6.0 with OS windows 2012 and database sybase ASE(15.7.050). I am facing problem while taking database backup on tape drive. I want to know how to initialize tape drive in case of sybase DB and is it possible to take back-up on same. I failed to schedule backup from DB13 so now I am doing that activity by command line. So please help me to solve these issues.
Here I am attaching some files related with backup commands that presently I am using. My SAP system ID is DQS.

That output actually looks pretty good, it was dumping to the tape drive, it just ran out of tape because the drive apparently doesn't automatically detect when it is reaching the end.
For the next step, try adding a CAPACITY parameter to your dump command as discussed at these places in the documentation.

Your output above shows it was able to dump 87565594 KB before it ran out of tape,
so lets be a little conservative and try
dump database DQS to TAPE1 with capacity = 87000000, init
go
When the dump reaches that point, ASE should prompt you to pop in another new tape
and then issue the sp_volchanged procedure from a second session (it will tell you what parameters to use for sp_volchanged).
Note: once we get the dump working successfully, we can then create a logical dump device that would store the capacity value, and create a full dump configuration so you gain all the new functionality like dump history, etc.

Hello,
I am having trouble adding a NAT port forwarding rule on my SRP521W. I get the error
The port range is overlapped with rule X, even though my port ranges are not overlapping.
I have this rule created (rule 2):

I get this error
It seems to be related to the fact that both internal ports are 80, but this should not matter as the internal IP addresses are different. Can someone please explain how I should create rules to allow me to open ports to two different devices, with different IPs, using port 80?

I would certainly recommend upgrading straight away.
Latest release is 1.1.27 and is available via www.cisco.com/go/srp500 - follow the download software link on the right hand side.
When selecting code, follow the link for SRP520 Models (not SRP520-U)
You should find that the latest code fixes your issue (and provides more functionality).

Reprocess Bdoc with status I04 (Intermediate state)

Hi All,
I have problems to reprocess Bdoc's with status I04 (Intermediate state).
In a batchprogram I created businesstransactions. But when a central blockade was set on the businessparter, no businesstransaction appear.
In the SM13 I have Update-errors (SAPSQL_ARRAY_INSERT_DUPREC).
In the SMW01 I have Bdoc's (BUS_TRANS_MSG) with status I04.
I'm having problems to reprocess the Bdoc's.
After uncheck all central blockades, the reprocess of the bdoc failed.
After changing the status of the Bdoc from I04 to I01, the bdoc will be reprocessed (green), but the data in the Bdoc will not be written to the database (CDB).
What could be a solution to reprocess the Bdoc's with an update of the CDB (and the businesstransaction appear)?

Hi G. van Doom,
You got a system error: SAPSQL_ARRAY_INSERT_DUPREC, this means that the running process tried to insert to the DB a records that is already existing. Hence it raised this system error.
Reprocessing the BDoc won't solve the issue since you will again try to insert record that already exist.
I would suggest you to maybe check the task you set in the BDoc from your batchprogram, if the records was already existing then you should rather do an update, by using Task = 1. Therefore you must have a logic in your program which can find if the record exist or not in order to set the appropriate task.
Task:
1 - Update
2 - Insert
3 - Delete

SVM state database replica Master flag not set for any replica

Hi guys,
Recently i have done root mirroring. After creating svm volumes, i ran the metadb command to create state database replicas on the replaced disk. I created only one replica that time. I tried creating additional replicas but it said like replica already exist on the slice. So i deleted the replica on the slice. Thn i created 3 replicas again & ran metadb. Output of metadb command is below. I found there is not master flag not set for any replica. I like to know whether it would create any issue or it is fine.

That shouldn't be any problem, i think the metadb's are just read at boot, and at boot one of the replicas will be choosen as the master, and will then get the m-flag.
I suspect that you deleted the replica which was used as the master during the last boot, which is why none of your replicas have the m-flag at the moment, which is not a problem as it will be choosing a new replica during the next boot.

Initial Print jobs 'communication error with device'. Pause and restart job

So, I have an odd variant of the Leopard print problem; on 3 separate systems.
When I print to an HP Photosmart C7180, which setup fine, which I can scan to fine, the print job throws an error :error communicating with device, switch on and off' and so forth. It does that from any app, and consistently. I am printing via bonjour, the printer is networked, but on a static IP.
To fix this EVERY-TIME I PAUSE printer, then start printer again. It immediately starts working, consistently until I sleep, log out, or don't print for a while.
This seems to be some timeout issue or such. I tried IP printing, but no difference.
Resetting the print system also did not help.
It's not catastrophic but sooo annoying. Any input appreciated!

Unfortunately, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations. In addition, the AirPort's USB port does not support the "advanced" printer functions, like scanning, copying or faxing, of multi-function printers.
To see if your printer is compatible, take a look at this iFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility link.
If your printer isn't listed, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.

I assume that this printer works just fine when it is connected directly to your Mac ... correct? If so, has it worked when connected to the AX in the past ... or has it always had this problem? If it did work correctly before, did you do any updates, especially to the AX, recently?
