Slide Action on Exit Cancelled by Length of Audio File

Captivate 8.0
Responsive Project
Status:  Solution to problem works but makes no sense
Problem:  Slide actions on exit designated in the Properties Inspector do not function.  Although the "jump to slide" action was selected, the transition at the end of the slide moves to the next slide. I encountered this problem as I was developing a series of slides that would supplement a single beginning slide.  Using click boxes I wanted the learner to be able to click on an item, go to a slide with more detail, then return to the original list on the starting slide.  I set the supplemental slides up in the Property Inspector--Actions to "Jump to slide" and selected the beginning slide number.  When I ran the project, the click boxes moved to the correct slides but the supplemental slides did not return to the beginning slide.  They only transitioned to the next slide.
Solution:  This makes no sense to me and is the source of my question.  I'm using text-to-speech as a temporary method of making a rough cut at timing while I am waiting on narration files.  The audio files created by text-to-speech usually run to the end of the slide and are exactly the same length as the slide.  Grabbing at straws to fix the problem, I added 0.2 secs to the slide length so the slide timing was slightly more than the audio file.  Voila!  The selected action (jump to slide X) functions as expected.  I made the same change on the balance of seven slides and the entire routine works as designed.  I have not tested slides using imported narration or narration recorded within Captivate to see if the same problem presents.
Why would this be?  Why would the length of an audio file prevent an exit action from functioning?

  • Length of audio file not correct in Firefox, Safari, and Chrome. Why?

    Hello,
         I created a mp3 player that loads the file, displays the sound length, and plays the audio file. I have notified that on Firefox, Safari, and Chrome browsers, the length of audio file is not correct. I have uninstalled and installed flash plugin and activex control but no luck. Any ideas why I am experiencing this behavior?

    As a test, try putting an empty JSP in front of it that triggers the session to be created, and then redirects (with a HTTP meta refresh for example) to the frameset jsp to see if that fixes anything.
    If that fixes it, then I guess the pages load too quickly.

  • Slideshow, how to make clip the same length as audio file?

    Hi
    I've got several PowerPoint presentations and need to make an MP4 video file for each of them. I know how to export the slides as still images, and I also have the audio files broken up into individual mp3 files that match each slide.
    I'm trying to figure out the most efficient way of getting the slides and audio files synced in Premiere Elements.
    Yesterday I imported all of the png images and mp3 audio files into my project. But I had to individually add each image, followed by the mp3, and then in the timeline manually stretch the image to make it last the same length of time as the audio file. It was rather tedious and I have a lot of presentations with many slides to work with. I'm sure there must be some better way to make all of this happen, right?
    Can anyone help me out here?
    1. Is there a way to make the image clip match the time of the audio clip?
    2. Is there a way to import all of the audio and image files at once (given they have the same names) and have PE automatically associate the image clip with the audio file?
    Thanks, Derek

    1. You can place the audio file in the Audio 1 track of the timeline first (Timeline, not sceneline)
    2. Next drop the image to where the audio file starts. Now press "\" key
    3. Drag the end of the clip to exactly where the audio ends. Whe you are near the end of the audio with the drag it should simply stick to it.
    4. Group the audio and image file together (Right click and select group after selecting both these together)
    5. Select the clip and do a right click and use the Fade-In and out option. You can fade in the video and let the audio simply continue. This makes it look and sound good.
    6. Place the next audio file and go on doing the same till all of them are done. The grouping step is not needed but when you keep working with PRE, you might just thank me for it!
    I tried all these steps just as I was typing this post, so I can tell you for sure that PrE10 works as if it is designed JUST for this use case. So hoping you get to complete the project on time and with good quality!

  • Action : On Exit

    I am having a problem in Captivate 6.  I have a widget that uses cpCmndGotoSlide to go to a slide based on input from a text file.  I want some actions to occur when the user exits the slide and navigates to the slide number from the text file.  The widget is a button widget.  I want to reuse the widget and not have to change the widget every time I have a new project.  Putting the actions in an advanced action would be nice, but it won't fire "on Exit" when the user pushes the widget button. I didn't know why until now. I read on another question, that the "On Exit" action only happens when the slide reaches the last frame of the slide.  If you use a button to navigate away from that slide, the "On Exit" action may not occur.
    Is there a way to make the slide go to the last frame of the slide, by setting a variable, or advancing the timeline?

  • Seting action on exit of page

    Is there any way to set an action on exit of the page?
    I mean, in one window i'm uploading files to temp directory and if user presses 'correct' button it targets custom tag which deletes these files.
    My concern is that if user will leave page without either pressing that 'correct' button or 'upload' button (Both deletes files) these files will be left in the server.
    So is there any way to target my custom tag on exit of the page?
    cheers,
    Simon

    This sounds like something you'll want JavaScript for. Check out the window.onload() method. It fires whenever a user tries to 'leave' your page (i.e., when a 'page' is unloaded from the browser).
    Sample:
    <html>
         <head>
              <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
              <title>Unloading a Page</title>
              <script type="text/javascript">
                   function unloaded(){
                        alert( 'you are leaving my page...' );
              </script>
         </head>
         <body onunload="unloaded()">
              <p>Hello World</p>
         </body>
    </html>
    This is only meant as a skeleton to get you started!
    Hope it helps,

  • Exits/Badis for FP03DM to change file format(row length)

    Hello Experts,
    I want to find out the exits/BADI's for changing the file format while submitting a file for collection agency during mass processing ( FP03DM ).
    I know there are events 5062, 5063, 5064 but they only enable me to change the existing  field contents and not the length..etc of rows in the file.
    Please suggest
    Thanks
    Ricky

    Hi Ricky,
    Your problem can have two solutions:
    1. Fill the data in event 5062, 5063 and 5064. These events update table 'dfkkcolfile_p_w'. From there by passing Issue Date and ID, you can pick all records to be submitted to Collection Agency. The using event 1799, you can pick all these records and create your own file. (Preferable)
    2. You can customize structures FKKCOLFILE_HEADER, FKKCOLFILE, FKKCOLFILE_TRAILER to include your own fields. But in this case, it fields would be in same order as structure.
    Thanks.

  • Why does "Jump to Slide" action disable the quiz slides?

    Here is what I have setup:
    I have a Captivate 4 program using AS 2. The program is a total of 23 slides (quizzes and tutorials). The program is broken into 3 lessons with one of the slides set as a menu slide. Each lesson button on the menu jumps to the slide that is the first slide of that lesson. At the end of each lesson I have a completion slide with a menu button that jumps back to the menu slide when it is clicked.
    Here is the problem:
    When I start the program and complete any of the lessons and return the menu, none of the question slides work in the remaining lessons. The question slides show up, but the radio buttons and submit button are no longer active on those slides. Its as if the program thinks the slide is complte, but nothing is selected. I have narrowed the problem down to the “Jump to Slide” action that I use on the Menu button in the lesson completion slides. If I would complete the program in a linear way without jumping back to the menu slide I don’t seem to have any problems. The problem seems to only occur when I jump backwards through the slides.
    Has anyone else had a similar problem? Is this a bug with Captivate or am I missing something?

    Hi there
    The unfortunate fact is that question slides work best if you can place them all in a linear fashion where you move from one to another without ever going backward. We often see posts here where things fail to work when you choose to jump backward and forward in the movie.
    Perhaps one workaround would be to force a specific order of progression. Sprinkle the "menu" slide so it follows each segment. That way you could also easily implement something like check marks or a progress indicator to show completion of the segment.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How can I control whether or not an audio files plays when a slide starts?

    I am putting together a course and have a welcome audio that plays automatically when the user begins the course. Since that slide has a list of the modules that will be in the course, I would also like to use it as one navigation option - click the "Menu" link on any slide and return to this page.
    The problem: Every time the page is hit the audio plays.
    The question: How can I set the audio so it only plays the first time the page is entered but not again?
    I have created a variable called "PlayWelcomeAudio" and set it to "Y" initially, then have an Advanced Action script that changes the variable to "N" when it is clicked (progress through the course is linear so there is only one option available to the user at this point. Clicking that link opens the next page and sets "PlayWelcomeAudio" to "N".
    I can see that the variable has been set correctly (when I start it is "Y" and when I come back it is "N") but I'm not seeing anyplace where I can set the audio file so it doesn't play.
    I tried setting cpCmndMute to "1" but that didn't work because it is apparently a global setting and I didn't get any audio playing anywhere after that.
    I'm not looking to pause the timeline or anything like that. I just want the audio to play the first time but not the second and subsequent times that page is hit.
    Thoughts? Suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Michael

    Attach your welcome audio to an object that is not seen (e.g. a highlight box set to 0%) and use your Advanced Actions and variables to HIDE this object ON SLIDE ENTER if the user returns to the same Menu slide at a later point in the course module.
    This should mean that the first time the user gets to that slide, the audio will play.  But all subsequent times they return to that slide, the object will be immediately hidden on entering the slide, which will mean that the audion does not play and all the user sees are the menu options.
    Your alternate strategy would be to have two slides that look almost the same.  The first one has the audio, and the second one doesn't.  Your TOC item for Menu, and any other links in the project that point to the Menu, would go to the second slide without audio.  The user will be none the wiser as long as you work out the navigation.

  • Captivate 8: audio file doesn't work when I add it to an object slide

    Hi everyone,
    I have problems with the audio in Captivate 8.  This doesn't work when I press an object slide (button) that has an audio file incorporated. This issue doesn't happen when I add sound to an individual slide.
    I have tried to fix the problem by changing the preferences, but nothing
    Any suggestion is welcomed!!
    Evelyn

    An audio file that is attached to an object or a slide, will play when that object or slide become visible. I don't know what you mean by 'has an audio file incorporated'? Do you mean that it is attached to the button in its audio part of the Properties, which is in the Options tab? In that case the audio will just play when that button gets visible, if it is at the start of a slide, audio will play at the start of that slide.
    If you want an audio clip to play only when a button is clicked, you need to use an action 'Play audio', or make an audio object visible.

    Beware: if you do this with a simple action triggered by the button, the playhead will be released if that button has a pausing point.

  • Audio Files "Stacking Up" on certain slides

    Working on a movie...200 slides...have listened to the audio
    file and sounds fine...each slide shows an audio clip attached and
    each file can be played slide by slide. However, when I publish the
    movie as a .exe file or even F4 to preview the movie, the audio is
    a mess...the audio continues while the slides hang up. I printed
    the bandwidth summary...and it shows in the audio column (for
    example) 940.8 KB on one slide with 0.0 KB on the next 7 slides,
    228.6 KB on next slide with following 5 slides 0.0.
    I checked the settings..."Pause until user clicks" is
    UNchecked. I have numerous click boxes on the slides (and it does
    seem to be those that are "collecting" the audio files), but all of
    these are displayed for "rest of slide" and do not require a click.
    I'm using these in a TOC on the left side to "Jump to" other
    slides. And mysteriously...probably something I'm doing wrong...it
    is the slides designated as "Jump to" slides that have the 940.8 KB
    of audio, etc. Not one of them is 0.0.
    Any ideas on how I can unscrew this mess?
    Thanks!

    The first thing that I would recommend is to try split the
    movie into a series of smaller pieces. I know that this isn't what
    you will want to hear but in general, Captivate does not handle
    this volume of slides well.
    Another point that you might like to consider, is that a
    movie of this size and ulitmately length might be considered
    information over-load for your prospective learners.
    If spliting the movie into a series of movies doesn't make
    any difference then please post each of the files and I (or another
    of my fellow ACE's) will be happy to take a look.

  • How to get the length of a audio file without play it ?

    Now I know a method to get the length of a audio file by play it:
    1 Create a Player, and add a ControllerListener
    2.Start the Player
    3.In the ControllerListener's controllerUpdate method, use getMediaTime() by receiving a EndOfMediaEvent
    However I think this method is not convenience, if I don't want to play it how I can get the length of the audio file?
    Is anyone can help me?Really thanks a lot !

  • Is it possible to sequence audio files on one slide

    Problem:  One audio clip starts playing before the previous audio clip has ended.
    Setup: On one slide I have multiple audio clips, dragged in from the media browser. Using the build tools in the inspector I've set up clip 1 to play after an image appears, so the first audio clip  is build 2. Then for the second audio clip I set it up as build 3 to start automatically after build 2.
    The result is that the both audio clips start at the same time. The only way I can get the clip2 to start after clip1 is to add a delay to start of clip2.
    I tried inserting a "build out= stop audio" after clip 1, adding enough duration to make sure that the clip could play in its entirety but that appears to cause clip1 to not play.
    I'd appreciate any pointers on how to sequence these audio files, preferably within keynote because I'm attempting to get the audio to sync with images appearing on the slide.
    Thanks.

    The original post had it correct:
    The result is that the both audio clips start at the same time. The only way I can get the clip2 to start after clip1 is to add a delay to start of clip2.?
    open the build order window;   Animate > Build In > Build Order
    In this example the first sound file is set to play after the shape has built in
    the second sound file is set to play with a delay of 3 seconds because the first sound file has a duration of 2.5 seconds, this plays the file immediately after the first is finished playing.
