'Slow Bug' in v7.2

I just installed v7.2 and I'm dissappointed with the performance. Any one know if there are any adjustments I can do to improve... my main complain is this version is extremely slow in terms of scrolling. I have over 20,000 songs in my library & it is pretty much impossible to scroll through the list - if you drag the right side slider it will only go down a little bit, then things freeze, then the free up & you can slide down a bit more.
I am running windows Vista & please do not tell me I need to look at system upgrades to improve the problem. I am running a Dual Core 2 processor (2.13ghz) with 2GB ram, so respectible spec's - maybe not the best for high end gaming, etc but definately good enough to run something like iTunes. Further more, this issue was not there in other versions of iTunes.
Any suggestions?

We know about this already (our apologies) and it will be
fixed in the next release; I'm not sure if that will be a hotfix or
Flex 3.

  • Zoom and pan excrutiatingly slow - Bug?

Not sure when this began, I've recently upgraded to iPhoto 8.1 and Snow Leopard but I'm not sure if those are factors. When in edit mode if I zoom in on a photo I am basically unable to scroll (pan) around, using either the trackpad or the scroll bars. It does move, eventually, but its like the whole system just comes to a grinding halt. Anyone else get this? Otherwise everything else is rather snappy.

I think I've discovered the source of the problem, and the discrepancies we're seeing... its something to do with the adjustments and effects, the more you have applied to an image, the slower it becomes. I just tried importing a brand new image and it scrolls around just fine, as soon as I start applying adjustments (levels/saturation/sharpness etc) it slows to a crawl. If I click 'reset' everything speeds back up again.
I imagine on a super fast machine it wouldn't be noticeable, but it certainly is on my laptop, and its much worse when using the 2 finger scroll. Panning around using the 'space bar to grab' method is pretty smooth, as is dragging around in the little navigation window. Still, all scrolling methods get slower with more adjustments applied. Strangely, its also worse when running on battery power.
Failing any fixes from Apple, I suppose the question is, is there a way to permanently 'apply' the settings so that iPhoto doesn't have to think about them? I do appreciate the concept of non-destructive editing but not if its going to take this much of a hit on performance.

  • ITunes lagging/extremely slow- bug?

Lately, iTunes 7.2 on my Windows XP PC has been running very strangely.
It takes a long time to load, and when I play a song it freezes my entire computer for about the first 30 seconds of the song. Sometimes it skips as well during this time.
It also often freezes up when I try to make playlists and drag & drop songs.
Has anyone else experienced this? It's extraordinarily frustrating and I really don't want to use Windows Media Player! I never had this issue before I downloaded iTunes 7. I tried reinstalling older versions but the problem still occured.
If anyone knows something about this issue, please help me.
    Thanks.

I did all the step with save mode and that didn't gave the same result.
Then I created a new account and there itunes started up normally.
So I contued with the user section.
I removed the itunes directory from
    c:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
This gave the same result in not starting up.
Then I removed the itunes directory from
    c:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
The a popup appears that the Bonjour Service has been disabled.
I looked in services and saw that is was still running.
But I tried to restart this service and it took a long time to stop this service.
Even if I selected restart the Bonjour Service didn't start.
Manually starting was not a problem.
Clicking OK on the popup let itunes start quickly. And closing and starting it again was also quickly.
So Matt thanks for your answer.
If it happens again I have to see if it was the removing of the itunes directory from roaming or restarting the Bonjour Service.

  • I used to champion these forums. Now I don't give a gnat's...

    I was a contributor, a corrector, a clarifier.
I'd write 1,500 words explaining every possible angle on the simplest of topics, sometimes revealing tricks to people who have far more experience with Photoshop than I do. I exercised painstaking detail in choosing the proper terminology and phrasing when answering questions, and I'd test everything to make sure what I posted was correct. I was an obsessive re-editor of my posts if I noticed the wording was wrong, or didn't flow well. I'd craft screen shot composites so clean you couldn't tell they weren't monitor images that could occur natively. I added arrows, and numbering, and translucent, colored-box paragraph backgrounds for descriptors, colors chosen for the best clarity I could muster. I'd bodge together difficult GIF animations and QT Movies if it would help a user understand a concept more completely.
I was a defender, a protector, an evangelist.
I took it personally when newbies and spammers would come in and muck the place up. I was sometimes brusque, other times gentle in trying to bring people into line with how to get the most out of their time here. I beat up on troublemakers ruthlessly, and without remorse.
I brought the "How to Get Help Quickly" mantra to this forum after reading it elsewhere, because it was the best exposition I'd ever seen on the subject of efficient information exchange.
I'd take the time to help troubleshoot forum problems.
Now, I don't give a crap about what happens to this place. I'd been hoping for the best, as I had during past attempts at major forum changes.
It's clear to me now that the planning, preparation, roll-out and fine tuning has been doomed from the start.
Every single person involved in ramming this new system through is to blame.
And I'm only one person. I'd guess there are hundreds of people who feel the same way I do.
Too bad, Adobe. You totally and completely screwed up.
I'll still visit once in awhile, because there are people here that I like.
But as for all that content I was giving away for free—and happily, I might add—and all the cheerleading I did for this place?
You can shove all that right up that gnat's arse and then go sit on your own thumbs and spin.
It feels to me like you are intentionally doing almost everything in your power to discourage the type of participation I used to revel in. From slow bug fixes and promises unkept (EFF you very much, Jive–shysters) to the mere trickle of ongoing feedback and update info offhandedly tossed to us, Adobe have become slumlords, slapping paint on a building that fails to meet standard-of-living code. Sure, there are some decent new features, but they either don't work, work only part of the time, are cumbersome, and generally regarded as so slow as to inhibit any sort of lively momentum.
I'd be ashamed and embarrassed to be the captain of this rotting ship. As a fully vested, ranking mate on this vessel, I hereby resign my commission.
You don't deserve my help anymore.

Phos, although I am answering your opening message, I'm not really addressing this message to you, but to everyone.
Almost exactly a month ago, I accepted the first important job I have been offered in more that two years. I did although it had a 30 days deadline and I knew it was very difficult, if not impossible, to complete it in that time. Well, I did manage to finish it not long ago, and one of the first things I did was to come back to my once beloved forums, full of hope of being met with some important changes introduced in these 30 days.
I am sorry to say that, so far, I have noticed only these two changes:
    1. The "Report spam..." link in the stickies now points to the correct thread, not to a locked one, something I had been asking for weeks before this 30 days interlude; and
    2. The problem for which I offered a suggestion in this post
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1968406#1968406
and which had received a very good solution as I reported two days later, is back here. Plus, the "Next" button doesn't work (I don't remember if it worked before the change that was reverted).
As this forum is full of so many easy to fix complaints, seeing only these two changes in 30 days -one of which can hardly be called an improvement- was really very discouraging. However, what really got me down was reading the opening post of this thread.
Those who haven't followed Phos' trajectory in these forums may think that he is making false pretences, or at least exagerating, about his contributions to these forums. I am one of those who can testify that he is doing neither.
To make it short: over these so many years trying to give whatever modest help I'm capable of in the Acrobat and Reader forums, I lost count of the times I asked Phos, somewhat jokingly, to please leave the easy questions for me to answer. Each time I saw a just published easy one, I rushed to try to answer it, only to find he had done a much better job than my attempt, and had replied a several other more recent questions in the meantime. He showed an infinite patience to answer the same questions over and over again, which I admired because I don't have it and just refered the questioner to the appropriate FAQ instead -when I did manage to post before he did.
And he did everything else he writes in his OP, never boasting about what he did and accomplished. That's why I am sorry he had to do it now, I imagine that in an attempt to put some weight to his words. Not for us, of course, but for those responsible for this unbelievably large fiasco they have so stubbornly refused to acknowledge. And we used to call a fiasco the previous one, which was nothing compared with this mess, and which was rectified!
I am afraid that I am feeling my age, and so I'm finding that the enormous effort that too many very capable users have being putting in suggestions to improve these new forums, since the last "little fiasco" until now, to be such an gigantic waste, that I also don't feel like continuing. Had I not had this 30 days interlude with no noticeable changes, I would probably have continued by inertia for much longer, hopefully waiting for the improvements that never come, but this has opened my eyes. However, just logging in, or moving from one forum to another, is so excruciatingly slow that I find I simply do not have enough time to waste in just waiting for things to happen.
I will miss the group spirit of the old forums, and the many persons I got to know and like and care for, although knowing that I would never meet them. But then, I am missing more of them everyday and, after all, such is life.
Just a final thought. It is most probably true that JC has spent this week in the moutains. I would be happy to be corrected if I'm wrong, but I would say his presence has hardly been noticed, if at all, for quite a lot longer than a week. Another one of those many not at all encouraging signs.

  • LR2 vs Bridge+PS CS4

I just upgraded from PS CS to CS4 and found Bridge was bundled in on the deal. At the same time, I also purchased LR2 since there was a major discount given if it was purchased at the same time as the upgrade.
Mostly, I have been using Bridge + PS CS4 and have only casually looked at LR2. However, I am wondering what LR2 brings to the party since Bridge seems pretty capable at managing images and is very well integrated with ACR and PS CS4.
So, can anyone tell me what the value added is for LR2 over the Bridge/ACR5/PS CS4 combination?

It depends on workflow, your image processing requirements.
I can process images faster in Bridge/PSCS4 than in LR--given LR's slowness, bugs and faulty features, and lack of critical tools that I need and that PS has, or acommodates as plugins. The connectivity between Bridge and PS is much faster than the round trip from LR. But, everyone's needs differ. If you are doing general basic parameter tweaks to your images and only taking the odd image over to PS and back, LR may well be satisfactory.
It is not for me at this time. Like many I like the overall concept of LR. So I give each new version a serious trial--well, all but the obviously bug ridden versions, like 2.2.
I have an established archive system ,DAM, and do not need Library, but have to have it if I use LR, since all I/O goes through it, and that is a major source of LR's slowness. Given that ACR and LR have the same color engine and for the most part the same image development tools, I don't miss any of LR's features--I use Qimage for printing and Proshow Pro for slideshows--both clearly superior to LR Print and Slideshow.
Perhaps someday LR will truly be competitive for my requirements--that certainly was not the case with V2, and at the rate LR is developing, I seriously doubt that it will be by V3, especially if Adobe continues making significant UI and feature improvements in PS/Bridge, as they certainly have with CS4 and Bridge 3.
In your case, since you have both, why not test the two workflows on 100 or so representative images--that's the best way to determine which will work best for you.

  • Copy/Edit Sessions when a class is copied

    Hi All,
My client has an Orientation Course, whose purpose is t provide a kind of an orientation of the organization to the new employees. This course has multiple (about 10 - 15) sessions as this requires trainers from different departments to provide an introduction of their respective departments to the new employees. This typical course is offered every month, so we should we be able to copy the class along with all the sessions every month and edit the required details. But OLM does not allow the sessions to be copied along with the class object.
I have checked it on Metalink and found that the following ER has already been raised for the same but I found its progress quite slow -
-- Bug 3408912: OTA.I COPYING A CLASS WITHIN A OFFERING DOES NOT COPY THE SESSIONS OF THE CLASS
Please suggest any good workaround to implement this requirement.
    Regards,
    Bilal Khan

    Hi Bilal,
I have not heard of any good work-arounds for this ER - unfortunately.

  • Photoshop CS4 Menu toolbar display bug and fullscreen slowness...

    http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/8202/menutoolsbugee3.gif
I'm having a display bug with the menu toolbar in Photoshop CS4 Extended. Notice the area of tools is gone and replaced by random pixels? This happens whenever I enter the fullscreen mode that hides the interface. And when I exit that fullscreen mode, that bug appears and doesn't fix itself until I restart Photoshop. Can this be fixed?
Image view rotation also happens much slower than normal in that fullscreen mode when interface is hidden. But performs normally after I bring back the interface.
I'm on WinXP, Athlon 64 4000+, 3GB ram, GeForce 6800 GT video card [driver 169.21]. I'm not sure if this is a video driver bug or CS4 bug.

Yeah, Dave, I can understand how that can happen. I've seen that sort of weirdness when I've seriously overtaxed my hardware.
    <br />
<br />Had way too much running all at once yesterday, switched over to Firefox, and clicking on folders in the Bookmarks bar, I had 4 bookmark/folder menus dropped simultaneously.
    <br />
<br />I managed to grab a screenshot with 2 of them showing, but man! You shoulda seen it with 4!
    <br />
<br />I ESC'ed out, quit GarageBand (had a song project of several hundred MB going) and all was fixed.

SSRS 2008 R2 is extremely slow.  The query runs in less than a second in the dataset designer but if you try to view the report it takes over 10 minutes.  I have read this is a bug in SSRS 2008 R2.  We installed the most recent patches and
service packs.  Nothing we've done so far has fixed it and I see that I'm not the only person with this problem.  However I don't see any answers either.

    Hi Kim Sharp,
According to your description that when you view the report it is extremely slow in SSRS 2008 R2 but it is very fast when execute the query in dataset designer, right?
I have tested on my local environment and can‘t reproduce the issue. Obviously, it is the performance issue, rendering performance can be affected by a combination of factors that include hardware, number of concurrent users accessing reports, the amount
of data in a report, design of the report, and output format. If you have parameters in your report which contains many values in the list, the bad performance as you mentioned is an known issue on 2008 R2 and already have the hotfix:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2276203
Any issue after applying the update, I recommend you that submit a feedback at https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/
If you don’t have, you can do some action to improve the performance when designing the report. Because how you create and update reports affects how fast the report renders.
Actually, the Report Server ExecutionLog2  view contains reports performance data. You could make use of below query to see where the report processing time is being spent:
After you determine whether the delay time is in data retrieval, report processing, or report rendering:
    use ReportServer
    SELECT TOP 10 ReportPath,parameters,
TimeDataRetrieval + TimeProcessing + TimeRendering as [total time],
    TimeDataRetrieval, TimeProcessing, TimeRendering,
    ByteCount, [RowCount],Source, AdditionalInfo
    FROM ExecutionLog2
    ORDER BY Timestart DESC
Use below methods to help troubleshoot issues according to the above query result :

I have same Problem. I tried all options - Reset All Settings, Erase Content & reset all settings, Upgrated to IOS8.1, Restore using iTune. But problem persists.
When I turn Cellular Data or Wifi ON, then there is a lag while opening the Apps. But If I turn Data/Wifi off, phone becomes super fast. I have checked with my friends. They are not facing this issue. Not sure if Apple know this.

Hi, likely somethiung else, but Free Sophos...
    http://www.sophos.com/products/enterprise/endpoint/security-and-control/mac/
Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • Bug report: Energy Manager causes slow performance...

    Very slow Windows Startup..
Energy Manager's plans and the problem occured using any plan as I remember, and it wasn't an issue with the maximum processor state. I had heavy disk usage, especially access to the Page File, which is what the person in the second link I posted also described. CPU usage was low. The disk usage was seemingly not related to Energy Manager (Chrome was usually the worst), but removing Energy Manager completely resolved the problem. If you would find it helpful. I'm quite confident that even with Maximum Processor state at %100, CPU usage was low when it was slow, and that disk access was the culprit.
previously have use 1.0.0.31 or 32 not sure.
    Windows 8.1
Im using Lenovo Energy Management Driver
    1.0.0.28
    4.6.2014

I actually have the same problem.  Sorry to work on a old thread, but...
I've got my Lenovo B50-70 less than 1 month ago, and had switched it to SSD and had set everything up and is working perfectly.  However there are a bunch of lenovo programs that came pre-installed.  This computer is used mainly for work and I really don't like programs that suddenly pop-up and ask you to do stuff, as it is quite distracting, and with Lenovo Energy Manager being one of them so I removed it.  (I did do some research before I remove...)
Everything was fine, until when I try to switch on my wifi (I usually have it off, as I use LAN most of the time)...  For the B50-70 there is a airplane button on F7, which allow the user to switch wifi and bluetooth on/off.  That button was unresponsive...  After some digging it is actually related to the power energy manager being removed.  So I've downloaded the latest version from Lenovo and it was working again...
However though, whenever I start my computer it is taking so long to start...  And I tried uninstalling the power energy manager and it solved the problem...  And I am stuck with either having no wifi on/off ability or a really slow boot, which loses the whole purpose of the SSD.  After you enter your username and password it originally takes around 5~10 seconds to login, now it takes over 1 minute.
I have found this other link, which says Lenovo Power Manager having the same problem.
    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkVantage-Technologies/Bug-report-Power-Manager-causes-slow-performa...
There is a solution, which you can change the registry to switch a function off.  I've tried it and it didn't work, which is not surprising as it's a different program..  But I am hoping that Lenovo can provide a similar solution for Lenovo Energy Manager...

  • Samsung slow ssd bug

    Hi,
I have this problem as reported here:
    http://techreport.com/review/27212/samsung-840-evo-update-fixes-slow-reads-with-old-data
This bug affects the read speed of old files (about a month or older), instead of around 300 MB/s the files are read at around 25 MB/s, turning some tasks sluggish where they used to be lightning fast.
The system is a thinkpad x240 with ubuntu 14.04
My drive is (read from bios): Samsung MZ7TE256HMHP-000L7
The samsung restoration tool does not support this drive.
    Any solutions available from lenovo?
    Cheers,

Thanks for the reminder.. I just replaced my hard disk in 2011 mini with a 500GB Samsung 840 evo which looked cheapest and fine for what I wanted... it was like a few days before this info came out.. so I have not experienced any slow down.. I had around 100GB on the drive.. so I followed the instructions..
Created a boot USB using the iso from samsung on a windows machine using http://rufus.akeo.ie/
This was really simple.. so if you have access to a windows just do it this way.
Plug the USB into the Mac and hold options at boot and then select windows from the selection of boot devices. It came up with a very familiar DOS screen and I was able to do the firmware upgrade and repair.. took around 30min so no biggie..
I think as long as you have plenty of free space these things are fairly easy.

  • Portal slowing down after import of application (New bug in 3.0.8 ??!!!!)

We have two complete IAS installation (Portal 3.0.8+DB 8.1.7.0 EE) based on NT4.0. One is development, second production. Before moving application, clean prod machine is running forms very fast (least than 1 sec to show complete form). After importing application into the same schema (moved exp/imp db utility), performance is slowing down 1000%. The same form appear in 3~4 minutes.
    What's wrong with my portal.
Does anybody move successfully from dev to prod on NT environment?
    I'll appreciate for any comments.
    Marcin

    Regarding the performance issue..
There is a workaround provided at: Thanks for this - helped 100%

    PS.
Now I complete give up. We bought IAS1.0.2, which appear rather like beta version (more 20 registered bugs found just by us). Than oracle support concern that ver. 3.0.8 of Portal will be cure for any previous bugs. Then I lost two weeks of my work trying to install new version and fighting with low performance.
    Small piece of history:
Portal 3.0.8 for NT was available since 12 april 2001.
31 may 2001. Now Oracle is saying that 3.0.9 will be bug free. Maybe you should sit down for a while and develop some ver 3.x.x.x test and after you don't find anything release it.
Don't test your software on the customers.
We bought sw, get the knowledge and want to start our project. But how we couldn't do it on platform which is changing every three weeks?!!!!!!
    It's smells like Microsoft.
    NT4.0, srvpack1, srvpack2 (dangerous),srvpack3 forget,srvpack4, srvpack5 - Y2K, . . ... .. .

  • Slow motion video. By design or bug?

If I create a slow mo video and share it by iMessage the recipient views it correctly but if I view it in the thread it plays at normal speed throughout.
Is this a bug or by design?

I'll take this feature request to product management.  I can't say if or when such support will be available.  In the meantime, as a workaround use iMovie to export your video with the slo-mo effect to your Camera Roll so Revel can import the processed version.
