Slow FrameRate in Html/Js Air Application

Hi all,
I noticed a slow framerate in pages using air2 with Html/Js. For example, when I open a youtube page and play the video within, it seems to go a little jerky (surely <= 30fps). I tried even with a blank window, without other elements.
Is there a way to set a specific framerate for Html apps? (i know there's a simple way with flex apps).
Thanks

Thanks, I did it using:
nativeWindow.stage.frameRate = 60; // default was 24 fps

  • Flash in HTML-based AIR app: Urls do not open

    Hy there
Like the title states, I have a HTML-based AIR application, which embeds flash. This flash opens Links which should eventually open the default browser. For this I previously had to set the following property in my AIR application:
    window.htmlLoader.navigateInSystemBrowser = true;
Like this the URL calls were forwarded to outside the application and then opened the webbrowser. We had successfully tested this on various systems.
However, now there are users of our application, who report that on their system (Including WinXP Professional SP3!) the websites do not open at all. When clicking on a link inside the app nothing happens.
    Their system:
    Hardware: Lenovo IdeaPad S12
Windows XP Home Edition v2002 Service pack 3
    IE 7 (Version 7.0.5730.13)
    Firefox 3.5.7
I had a look at the system and things like switching the default browser or re-installing Firefox did not work. Unfortunately this is a critical issue and kinda urgent so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

Thank you for reporting back and letting us know.

  • Can HTML based browsers rotate along with a Desktop AIR application if browser is modular?

I get a buged out browser module in my Desktop AIR application after doing an application level rotation/orientation-change/flip screen for viewing on other side of monitor .
Most of the HTML content rotates 180 degrees without any issue, but, it seems some of the "components" aren't getting with the program.
Dropdown box lists don't rotate, even though the button to initate use of the dropdown list does. So, when viewing the application from the new orientation,
the dropdown lists are upside down from an end user perspective ( just never rotated properly from a developer perspective )
I was having to flip my application by sending out a message to a service and recieving the call from a WCF to tell the whole OS to flip via WIN32 API but
64bit operating systems do this a lot slower, so i'm trying to find a new solution.
I am wondering if a workaround can be done by replacing the misbehaving things like the dropdown box with native flex components?
    Any thoughts/ideas/conclusions?

    Did you try ...
    location.href = url

  • How to embed and play mp4 video in HTML AIR application?

Adobe Air HTML / JS application compiled from SDK command line.  I am not using flash pro or flash builder to create the application.
I was using dreamweaver but the dw air plugin seems to have stopped being developed so I switched to using the command line tools.
I am creating desktop air application that has embedded mp3 audio and also I want to embed mp4 video.
Using jQuery and the AIR js plugin I am able to play audio via buttons hooked up via jQuery and the AIR js plugin from the SDK.
What I am doing is creating proofs for clients in AIR and sending link to the client to download the application.  I embed the media because I do not want to place them on a website where it could possibly be seen by non-clients and get picked up in the SE's.
I am finding it hard to understand the AIR process for playing video.  I read that it is the same procedure as audio but it does not work.
If it was hosted on youtube or somewhere embedding the web player would be simple, just copy paste some code and it works.  When actually embedding the video say mp4, f4v, mov, wmv or similar file formats I can't get AIR to play the video.  Audio, not a problem it works great.
I would like to do the following with video.
Embed the actual file in the AIR app.  I can do this, it gets embedded.
Play, pause and stop the video - Can't get this to work
Get the current stop point and be able to start the video by sending a start point - This is all working with audio I just want to do it with video.
I have searched the forums, the search engines, youtube and read through the documentation on Air but the video does not work at all.
I need code samples and direction on how to make an embedded video play inside of a desktop air application using the HTML / JS air model. I am using the command line tools to create the air package and test the air app.
Please help if you have figured this out.
    Thank you.
Not sure if this matters but I am using Windows 7 Pro 64bit as my development machine.

In addition I also can not get html5 video to play in the adobe air app.  Would this issue be tied to the above?

  • Incorrect functionality of Embedded tag in html page, displaying object on top of all layers of Adobe air application native window

    Title
Incorrect functionality of embed tag in html loader for adobe air development
    Description
Problem Description: If we had loaded youtube.com video url in a view stack and navigate to other index of stack or away from we UI screen within the same native window video or embeded tag of flash player or any other embed object will be displayed on top of all screens layer in same position of where the object should be placed in side of html loader only.
    Steps to Reproduce:
    1) go to http://get.straweb.com/StraWebBrowser/StraWebBrowser.air download and install
    2) load 2 tabs and in the 3 tab load video player of youtube.com which will a sample video
before completing the load of 3 tab which trying to load video from youtube.com, navigate to other tabs 1 or 2 in few second once the flash player of youtube.com video player is load it will display in the current tab or UI screen.
    3) Try navigating to other tabs than youtube.com loaded tab you see the flash player is on top it stable.
    4) navigate to 3 tab and try to navigate to other tab you can observe that so how it will not show that flash player and only visible in that 3 tab which is fine.

  • Html display order : PDF document in AIR application

    Hello.
    I read
"The display order of a PDF file operates differently than other display objects in an AIR application. Although PDF content clips correctly according to HTML display order, it will always sit on top of content in the AIR application's display order."
I am concerned with the "PDF content clips correctly according to HTML display order" part. I would like to know what it exactly means. That is I want to be sure that I could put, for example, and image over the PDF doc, or any other HTML elements without them being graphically overridden by the PDF view. Thanks in advance.

My reading of the quoted bits is: Inside the PDF, layer ordering rules should work correctly.  But the PDF itself will float above any other content in AIR.

  • Images stored in Application Data folder are not visible in HTML Page generated by AIR Application

    Hi Programmers,
I have an AIR application where in I am capturing the images of persons via web cam and storing them in the Application Data folder of the users machine. I am successfully able to do so.
However, when generating the report in the HTML format from within the AIR application, I use the image captured and give the absolute path. but some how the image doesnt appear in the browser, I get the icon for image not found.
When I right click on the image, select property and copy the image path in new browser, I can see that image. Any thoughts on why this is happening?

  • Flex Based AIR application & remote HTML

The question is ....from a flex based AIR application do you
always have full access to all of the HTML content loaded from a
remote site via the DOM (htmlLoader.window.document), or is the
'context' of what you can see limited to what the initial url
requested can see - i.e. the context is as if it were javascript
running in the page corresponding to the initial URL.
As far as i can see if i request say the page
    http://www.abc.com/page1.htm
and it has content along the lines of
    <IFRAME src="
    http://www.xyz.com/page3.htm"
    id="remoteframe" />
    <IFRAME src="
    http://www.abs.com/page2.htm"
    id="localframe" /?
then using the htmlControl.htmlLoader.window.document i can
successfully navigate the DOM for the initial page loaded and
    localframe, but
    not remoteframe.
I've seen various comments about sandboxes, bridges and
applicationdomains in the documentation but i don't see how this
    can help me.
Can someone please shed some light on this? Can i from the
AIR application access all of the DOM, or am i restricted to the
initially loaded page and pages referenced from the same domain in
    the page?
    Thanks
    Jamie

    Hi,
From your AIR application, you can only access "exposed
    properties" in remoteframe.
You expose a property by using the sandbox bridge mechanism:

  • Font Anti-Aliasing Issues in HTML/Ajax based Air Applications

It seems that the font-renderer in HTML/Ajax based Air Applications is using some kind of sub-pixel font renderer that is overriding and vastly inferior to the standard Windows ClearType, or any Apple based option as well.  This problem is particularly noticable with light text on a dark background, and made worse the smaller the text is.  I've put together an example image explaining exactly what I mean at: http://regator.com/fontRendering.png   (it's a large image 1126 x 1500 px)
My example shows two fonts at four different sizes rendered in an HTML Air App vs the default Windows Cleartype, as well as using Safari to show the Font style anti-aliasing.  In all cases the HTML Air App rendering is far more difficult to read, and in many cases severely distorts the color of the text in a way that other subpixel algorithms do not.  As far as I can find after literally hours of googling and searching there's no way to override this in HTML based applications.  Is there any solution to this, or a planned fix for the renderer?  Other than this rendering issue, the HTML interface for creating Air apps is absolutely brilliant, this is just making my finished product look significantly less polished than it otherwise would if the text were more readable.
    Thanks.

    Dear caturner81, dear Adobe,
is there a solution to this problem? I'd really love to fix the aliasing thing in Air/HTML!

  • Slowness in air application

    hi,
i done a project in air but it seems to be slow in windows than ubuntu. Am not sure but i think it occurs when a popup is called. I didnot know why it happen so if anyone know it please give the reason and it will be helpfull
                                                                                                                        thanks in advance

    Hi,
Its work in the air application same as the flex application.
You can verify it very easly.
Use this sample applicaion which is a flex based.
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/quickstart/httpservice/
After this simply create the AIR project with the same code by simply replacing Application by WindowedApplication, it is working fine.Pls let me know if you have any issue.

  • Flex or AIR application is slowed down after continuous usage.

    Hello,
I am facing two issues one each in Flex application and AIR application.
    1. First in Flex application.
I have developed an Flex application in Flex 4.0 and is being used by around 10 to 15 users simultaneously.
Now the problem is that when all the users start use of the application in the morning, it is running perfectly. But after usage of 3 or 4 hours, or let's say after lunch its speed is gettling slow. And due to low speed, application behaves abnormally. For example, I am calling multiple php files one by one through http service in one of the screens. And those php calls are dependent on each other. So due to low speed step 2 php call is over before the step 1 php call. And due to that application can't set the screen as per its normal behaviout.
And this problem stays even after user clears the browser cache.
So I am assuming that even after clearing browser cache flash player is not removing all the cache or something is still there on the server which is causing slow speed of the application. Because when next day users come to office and use the application they don't face such issues. Such issues are coming only after continuous usage of it.
So please help me in solving this issue ASAP. Because our client is getting angry over this issue.
    2. AIR Application issue
I have developed an AIR application which is using socket connection to use different designer softwares like In Design, Illustrator etc.
Now sometimes happens that due to low speed of machine or internet my socket connection didn't get time to connect to some design softwares. So I have put a code that checks if the connection is lost then it reconnects it. But this connection lost problem starts coming after heavy usage of the application.
And the second problem is regarding drag and drop. When I do continuous drag and drop of images of around 70 to 80 images, I get memory over error from the machine stating that please close the application as there is no memory available now.
So please suggest a solution for this ASAP as our client will need to do lots of drag and drop operations and lots of socket connection to design software during the day.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Jigar Oza

Here is the screen shot of my AIR application.
When I do continuous drag and drop operation the highlighted VO or object instances are increased. These instances are increased and my system memory is used because of that. So how can I remove the instances of those objects which are used repeatedly?

  • Building HTML Air Application in Dreamweaver CC

I need some help ASAP.  We were recently switched over to Creative Cloud, and besides many issues we are having with CC that I won't go into here, one thing that is an immediate need is figuring out how to build and publish Air apps?  All fo the extensions that I have found and instructions I have read do nothing to get it working.  I can't even find an air extension from within the extension search/manager within the application itself.  Does anyone have the specific extension as well as directions for getting it running?  It was fine in CS5.X but no love now.  Please help!!

Yes, why! Why doesn't this post have a clear answer but more importantly why doesn't Adobe have a well-published answer to removing this functionality from products and their future vision/plans for Air?
To answer your question directly, you're missing what comes before that sentence... "Can I create Adobe AIR applications with Dreamweaver? Yes. Dreamweaver CS5 (and later) provides native support for building and packaging JavaScript/HTML applications on Adobe AIR for the desktop."
The sentence you refer to is specific to mobile. I'm interested in creating Air apps for desktop directly from DW. It's confusing and misleading (not to mention frustrating) trying to find answers and solutions. Simply saying that this isn't the correct forum isn't helpful. Is there an article that you can point to from here about Adobe's decision to remove Air support?

  • AIR application performance is very bad(slow)

I have an AIR application developed using Flash CS3. The
issue is application performance is very bad(slow) when the OS
(Windows XP) display property setting is in 16 bit color mode. When
the display property setting is changed to 32 bit color mode
applications performance is good and faster.
Application has used lots of color gradients, tween
    animations.
    System Configuration:
    Windows XP (SP2)
    1 GB RAM
    INTEL P4 , 1.5 GHz Processor Speed.
Can any one explain that is there any issue with Flash Player
    or AIR runtime.

  • Deployment of an Adobe AIR application in an enterprise environment

    Dear Team members,
first of all my apologies for posting this thread in more than one forum (see Installations Issues) but the argument is very important to us and I don't know where discuss it.
I would like to post a question to you regarding deployment doubts that we are trying to address.
My company is working on the new version of our primary application previously built as a J2EE application with some reporting functions with Flex, and we want to use AIR in order to leverage its possibilities:
Seamless integration with existing application functionalities (implemented as standard JEE web application pages) thanks to the integrated HTML capabilities
Improved integration of the user interface with the desktop
Native processes to provide additional functionalities
Our application is targeted to pharmaceutical industry, subject to FDA regulations, and it affects more than 5000 users for each customer, so we have some specific requirements affecting the deployment and distribution of the software:
Allow to run multiple versions of the software on the same client machine (to support test and acceptance activities in addition to the production environment)
Minimize the effort of the initial setup on each client
Manage the version upgrades without manual activities on each client
Keep the test/acceptance and production environments strictly aligned to improve effectiveness of formal validation (ideally, an application once validated should be transported in production without any source code modification, recompilation or repackaging)
The current browser-based strategy is perfectly fit to these requirements, and in the shift towards a desktop-based strategy we need to continue satisfying them as much as possible. We evaluated the standard distribution strategy of Adobe AIR applications, and noticed several attention points in this scenario.
The first issue we encountered is the back-end services endpoint discovery problem. Simply hardcoding a server URL in the packaged application could be a viable solution for public internet-accessible applications, but we need to support multiple customers in their intranet, and each one typically requires multiple environments for the application (acceptance, production, etc.). Maintaining dozens of different packages of the AIR application to support all these customer environments clearly is not the solution. Neither we want to force thousands of different users to enter and maintain the correct server location in their local preferences.
So, we thought to use a badge hosted in the back-end application to run the local AIR application: using the underlying API, we could activate the application specifying also the network location of the back-end services. We could also rely on the badge to install the application (and the AIR runtime if necessary)… however, application packaged as native installers cannot be installed, upgraded, or launched by the badge API (and we need to package ours as native to use native processes).
We also noticed that multiple versions of an AIR application cannot be installed side-by-side in a client machine, and that the installation and upgrade of the application can be performed only when the local user has administrative rights on the machine (using standard or native packages), forcing us to rely on external software distribution systems in some customer scenarios (introducing additional complexities in the release cycle).
At this point, in our opinion the standard deployment strategies of Adobe AIR applications are unfit for enterprise environments. In the enterprise world, many of the applications have migrated to a completely browser-based solution, while others enhanced their client layer to comply with the requirements, for example installing only a thin portion of the client code and allowing to connect to multiple server versions/environments with it (e.g. the SAP GUI universal client). Without smarter deployment and distribution tools, AIR applications currently are a step back compared to web applications in terms of manageability.
So, we are trying to develop a solution to address these problems, with some concepts similar to JStart: install on the client machine a launcher application capable of being activated from a web page, dynamically locate, download and run the actual client bytecode, transparently enforce client software updates, and supporting multiple applications (and multiple versions of the same application). However, we are facing many technical problems due to internal architecture of AIR and we already spent a considerable amount of effort trying to find a solution. We are now thinking to return on the choice of AIR, going back to Flex.
What is the position of Adobe on this argument? Is Adobe aware of these issues and are there any plans on this topic? Any advice?
    Thank you in advance
