Slow redirect by mod_oc4j during network failover - 10g R2

I have successfully installed two OracleAS 10g application server instances (app1, app2) on two machines and added both instances to a cluster (cluster1). Each application server contains a single OC4J instance (home) with a single OC4J process. I have enabled state replication of my web application (MyApp) and edited its web deployment descriptor to contain the <distributable/> tag necessary for state replication.
On a third machine, I have also installed the stand-alone Oracle HTTP Server (1.3) w/ mod_oc4j acting as a load balancer between the OC4J instances on my app servers. My mod_oc4j is successfully routing requests to both instances. The only parameter entries in my mod_oc4j.conf file are:
Oc4jMount /MyApp/ cluster://cluster1:home
Oc4jMount /MyApp/* cluster://cluster1:home
My PROBLEM: During testing, when one of my app servers experiences a network failure (disconnected cable), the user being served by that app server isn't redirected until 10 minutes after submitting a request. There is no timeout of any kind. The browser just waits for the response and the mod_oc4j plugin seems to keep attempting to connect to the disconnected server. Eventually, about 8-1/2 to 12-1/2 minutes pass, mod_oc4j finally gives up and the user gets redirected to the only other available machine, with his/her session intact :-). This problem ONLY occurs if the 'outage' is network related. If I were to shut down/power off one of my app servers instead of disconnecting it, the user is redirected to the other server instantly.
Can anyone shed some light on why mod_oc4j doesn't seem to be handling network outages very well?
All machines are Windows Server 2003 Enterprise w/ SP1.

It seems that i have the same problem. Any help welcome
Thanks

  • Failback after "Protected Network" failover in Hyper-V

    Hi everyone
I have a two node hyper-v cluster on Windows Server 2012 R2. I use "Protected Network" feature combined with LACP teaming at the Hyper-V level. Protected Network works fine, it meens when network connection of
a particular VM is broken, the Live Migration begins and VM starts working on a second node.
The problem is with a failback action. In the VM properties I have set the preferred owner and I allowed failback immediately. After loosing a network connection Protected Network feature migrates the VM to a second node (not preferred).
But after the connection is reliable again on the first node, the failback does not happen. When I for example restart a Cluster Service on the first node, then all VMs are migrated to a preferred nodes. Failback also works fine after restarting
one of the nodes. It does not work only after Protected Network failover.
Do you think failback is possible with Protected Network feature?

    Hi Konrad,
First , my apology for the delay .
I built the cluster for this test and I configured a HA VM to allow failback immediately and preferred owner but it only applied to node failover .
(I unplugged the cable to trigger failover for that VM but it didn't failback after I plugged the cable back )
    Best Regards

  • UCCX 8 Network Failover

    All,
I looked at UCCX 8.0 SRND about the server Network Failover and could not find it. Be fore UCCX 8, UCCX server only connects on one Network interface. UCCX 8 does have command "set network failover ena" in the command list. Question is "Does UCCX 8 suport Network failover???"
    Thanks,
    Wenqian

    Hi
In my experience the number of outages caused by software failures or administrative errors outweigh those caused by LAN/NIC failures by a huge amount. So much that the question of NIC failover doesn't really cause too much issue, especially when you have a pair of UCCX servers in the cluster (as most of my customers do, especially where redundancy is important). I think it's more important to stay within the guidelines - so when it does fail TAC don't have the option of pointing at your NIC configuration as 'unsupported'.
If NIC failover is really that important to the customer, then one option is to deploy it on UCS. You can have a single vNIC on the virtual machine, and multiple physical NICs in a fault tolerant mode whilst still staying in a 'supported' config.

  • FileMakerPro shut/slow down on G5/Tiger network with G3 server OS9

We have recently upgraded (insurance co. mandated) our medical office from a happily running system to one that's driving us insane. We were running 6 older iMacs, OS9.2 with a G3 server running OS9.2.1 over a TCP/IP network. Our office software is a FilemakerPro based system uses FMPServer on the server. We now have workstations iMac 1.8 GH G5s running OS10.4. Software company told us we could continue using the G3 server running OS9.2.1 with the upgraded Filemaker Pro software. (Same network) They had recommended that we not go to dual core Intel due to incompatibilities they knew existed. Since the install we have had numerous problems with sudden drastic slowdowns that can only be fixed by a reboot of everyone on the network and the server. Also individual computers get thrown out of the software with "the application FileMakerPro quit unexpectedly" message. This can occur during work or while sitting idle. Software co. suggested upgrade of software to 10.4.6 to the G5's, (they do not recommend .7 or .8) to stop problem. Have verified permissions-nothing much there. Upgraded one workstation to 10.4.6 with no difference in performance. Am questioning that the system software on the server needs to come up to OS10.4 even though they have told me no. Would have to buy CD's for the G3. We're looking for any suggestions before all employees quit.

Hey Bee-Had to pack it in last night-too many hours at the office this week. Thanks for looking at this. When I did the verify on each of the workstations very little came up-I apologize for not remembering message at this point but maybe only two or three lines on each of the G5's-same message on each with statement "verified and repaired" at the end. I don't remember if I ran permissions on the server. My employee Kevin-the best-may have done it. He's a PC user but trying very hard to help on this. I'm giving him one of the old red imacs to take home-maybe convert him. It occurs to me that since the software company did the data transfer, it's possible that an AFP connection may be hanging around on something. Not quite sure how to track that down. Thank goodness I spent time on the forum-I was going to try intalling Tiger on the G3 server this weekend-would have slowed us down to a crawl. Am heading over there soon after Acme delivers groceries-Acme online has changed my life. Have to install new version of Timbuktu so they can get in to fix some other problems-so many glitches. Had Timbuktu on the server-buuutt-after Verizon guy put DSL connect on server, workstations would not see the server-disabled internet connect on the server-then they see it. So in order for network to function, have to keep the server off the DSL ine for now and load Timbuktu on a G5. Someone suggested a faster drive-my Dad-Mac guy since the beginning-thinks that would be useful.By the way we have two drives for the server and copy back and forth in case one goes down. Patient data base has over 9000 patients plus insurances/providers/billing going back to '98. We do our own billing. I know TMI but I'm trying to knock these problems down one at a time. We are being mandated-both federal and insurance company to go all electronic for referrals, claims submissions, etc. Next immediate need is to get data out for an e-prescribing pilot program-husband is one of 150 BC of DE docs to RX from a loaded PDA. Sorry for the length-Yikes DEW

  • Slow (stop/start) transfers between networked computers

When I transfer large files from my 2007 iMac to my networked windows computer the file transfer hangs(doesnt transfer any data) for a few minutes, several times during the transfer. A file that usually takes 30 seconds (on tiger) can take 5 minutes as a result. Can be a real pain.
This problems occurs via both WIFI and ethernet cable. It doesnt happen all the time but most of the time.
    Any solutions to this?

I am not having stop/start trouble but file transfers between external FW 400 drives seems a lot slower than in Tiger.

  • Apple TV Gen 2.. Terribly Slow Streaming From Wired Home Network via itunes Windows 7. Please Help

Hello all, I just signed up for this as i hope to get more results from here than i did waiting 4 hours for a call from apple today.
I recently purchased an Apple TV Gen 2.. installed it on my Samsung 40" HDTV via HDMI cable and also ran a network cable to my basement where my router, (Linksys 5 port router plus Wireless) is mounted on the wall beside the cable modem.
just to rule things out i will give some spec's and details before i get further into this.
My goal is to use my Desktop Homebuilt PC running windows 7 ultimate 64bit to store my Digital Movie Library and stream through itunes all of my digital media to my Apple TV located in another room. Both Apple TV and my desktop windows 7 PC are hard wired NOT WIRELESS.
My internet connection is cable and tested it this evening several times at  58.9 Megabits per second down and 8 Megabits per second down... (yes that is correct 58mb/s down. this equates to about 7.1 megabytes per second download speeds for reference.
Now just to rule out my 2 year old wireless router i went and purchased a brand new router today... Same results.
Now on to the problem details and my findings.
Using my Desktop PC wired to try and stream Itunes movies from the streaming is absurdly slow.. very slow... i have yet to wait to see what happens after 30 minutes of waiting for a Movie to start.. music also takes a long time to load...
Music... i can go to icloud funtion which i paid for today.. and click on the same song in icloud and the song starts almost instantly, so does music videos...
Also previously purchased TV shows starts playing from the cloud almost instantly as well even HD TV shows...
Trying to stream anything through my desktop windows 7 pc just doesnt work right...
I have narrowed this problem down to my desktop.. but can not figure out what the problem is...
using my macbook air 120GB SSD wireless over the same network, which i also have a mirrored copy of my itunes library for testing purposes... there is zero issues with streaming anything from my macbook air over the same network via wifi...
Also using my ipad 2 mirroring works flawlessly, even HD movies plays without a hitch... same goes for my iphone 4s
the only issues i am having are with my desktop and streaming from my itunes libary on it... i do not want to use my macbook air.. as that defeats the purpose of having apple TV.. in the future i plan on ripping my entire DVD / Blueray collection to a 3 TB hard drive and stream to my AppleTV...  from my desktop computer storing my entire DVD / Blue Ray library digitally on the 3TB hard drive....
But i can not get this to work...  i can see my itunes libary on my desktop.. i can play music and watch movies.. other than anything HD will not play... but everything takes a rediculously long time to load... i can download an entire movie with my 58mb's connection in the time it takes to load something streaming from my itunes libary on my desktop PC...
if anyone has any suggestions.. there may be something i have overlooked or i am missing. any input and or advice will be greatly appriciated.
    Thanks,

Ok.. in order to help other users i will post this..
I have resolved the issue... it was rather simple and dumb...
I never use windows media player ever.. i do not like it and can not stand it.. because in my case it was a brand new windows installation this fix will only apply to certain users..
because it was a brand new windows installation.. i had never clicked on windows media player.. apparently streaming settings are embedded into windows media player for the windows 7 OS...    in past installations that i have used for years.. i simply never ever clicked on windows media player, as i never had a reason to.. i use itunes for my ipad, iphone etc.. etc...
by accident and shear luck i decided to click on windows media player.. and of course go through the express settings....  after i did this all of my streaming problems to my apple tv gen2 disapeared... HD movies now start almost instantly... so as i stated above apparently there are media streaming settings embedded into the OS through windows media player... doesnt make any sense to me as i never use the program.. but whatever that fixed my issue..
so for any of you windows 7 people out there using a windows 7 pc as your itunes sync computer and using that itunes library to stream to your apple tv... make sure you have done the initial setup at min.. of windows media player.. i still left itunes as my default player....  everything now works flawlessly... infact for whatever reason.. even in an HD movie my network almost has half the movie synced now accross the bar before the movie starts so now my apple tv is blazing fast....
i have been struggling with this for 2 days now and simply never gave it a thought that windows media player would ever have anything to do with itunes streaming a totally seperate program.. but it did..
i hope this helps other people with similar problems.
    good luck

  • How to redirect to a custom view in 10g

    Hi All,
Getting a bit of a headache on this one. I am migrating from 5.7 to 10g and in the project some emails are generated with a link to a custom view. Also I have a submit button in a jsp that redirects to a view. This was easy then (/servlet/controller?viewName=myview&from=1 or similar) but a bit more involved now I guess.
I had a look at WAPI and can see how to run an activity in an instance, or indeed an application but cant figure out how to display my view.
    Any ideas ?
    cheers
    Tony

Any thoughts would help on this one.
Effectively I want a url, or wapi call that takes the user directly to the workspace, with work items at a particular view (not inbox). Defaulting everyone to that view isnt a goer and neither is launching an activity.
I guess it is possible as the workspace does it when clicking the view dropdown.
    cheers

  • Slow WiFi only on home network and only on Mac

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro and internet downloads and especially viewing any videos (like youtube) are painfully slow at home. Videos basically load for a few minutes, play about 5 seconds of video, then load for a few more minutes. I know it is not the actual computer, b/c if I connect to another network elsewhere everything runs fine and fast. Also, it can't totally be my network since we have a few PC's on the same home network that are significantly faster with downloads. Things that take 20 seconds on my PC's take up to 10 minutes or more on the MacBook. Are there settings somewhere that I have wrong? Thanks, -Amy

So the RSSI and Transmit look okay (the speed 54 indicates a wireless G router). So your new Mac Book can run on wireless N protocal which is faster, so a thought for the future is an upgrade to a new router (which might solve all your problems). When I experienced much of what you are seeing, eventually I traced this to the WiFi router and got a new Airport express with N capability. I could have tried patching the router (mine was Netgear) but the added speed of the N standard pushed me onto a new router. My work PC's seemed to work okay on my old system and work great on the new Apple router.
But if you can see the other networks and find channel 6 or 11 completely open I would recommend changing the Linksys router to one of those channels and seeing if anything improves. These channels have no overlap in frequency with each other, but are also the most popular. If these are taken it still would be worth a try. Other interferences such as cordless phones and microwave ovens and the like will also affect G protocol wireless so moving the channel helps skip around them as well.
Before you make a change I suggest going to www.speedtest.net to verify your current performance. Maybe do this once in awhile for a day or so to get a measure of your current best and worst performance. This is a java applet that sends some packets to a local server and reads some down. It gives you a speedometer interface that gives you a Ping value (time for one packet to go between computers, should be in the 10 to 30 millisecond range) and then an upload speed and download speed. The web site actually keeps track of your speed values by date and time so you can review them as you make changes.
I would pick the recommended server. They select one near by but not at Comcast. So this test looks at your service between Comcast and the world. Comcast actually has a localized version of this same program www.speedtest.comcast.net, and so it can test your speeds within your own network - basically to Comcast and back. So this tests your line to Comcast.
Do this testing with your laptop connected by wire to your router (so this tests your speed without the WiFi) and then connecting to the internet via the WiFi. Without the WiFi and directly to Comcast's version of speed test, you should get the speed you are paying for from Comcast. The wired test to the speedtest.net suggested server gives you a more real world speed.
Once you have these base lines then change wifi channels and see if that helps.

  • Time Capsule external HD slow after joining an existing network.

    Hi all,
I have recently moved and had to reconfigure my TC accordingly. Previously my TC was connected to the internet and an external HD which hosted my iTunes music (amongst other files). After moving home, I was required to join the existing wifi so changed the configuration of my TC. Now I am unable to play music from the external HD as the performance is so slow. I'm also assuming backups will have lousy performance too as I havent yet seen evidence that a backup has successfully concluded.
The house has a netgear DGN2000 connected to ADSL. Internet access from my mac seems OK. I'm using Remote with Client Association in the configuration, adding the TC's MAC address to the netgear router.
Any ideas why disk performance has gone down so much ? I can discount iTunes as previewing photos in Finder from the same HD is also painfully so.

Hello Shogododo. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
The house has a netgear DGN2000 connected to ADSL. Internet access from my mac seems OK. I'm using Remote with Client Association in the configuration, adding the TC's MAC address to the netgear router.
I don't think this Netgear feature is supported by the TC. How do you have the TC configured? That is do you have it so that the option "Wireless Mode = Join a wireless network" is selected?

  • Mac to mac copy slows down over internal airport network

This is a strange problem but here goes...
    Some useful background info:
I have recently downloaded through the new Airport Express network I just created a file that was 212MB from a site on the internet in about 12 minutes or so which is pretty fast for a DSL connection.
    The issue:
When I try to copy files from a PowerBook G4 running Leopard 10.5.2 to an iMac G5 running the same version of the OS, I see the same odd behavior (copying from Public folder to any folder on the iMac):
The copy starts in the finder just fine and seems to be going very fast as expected by an internal network copy but after some arbitrary amount of time, the copy slows down and eventually fails. The time to complete the transfer starts out really fast and eventually hits a brick wall where it slows down further and further.
Other notes: the copy I've been attempting is files and folder that are about 1GB total but I've tried it with small and large copies and this has worked fine in the past with Leopard and other OS'.
Sometimes, this slowdown occurs at 5MB into the copy, other times it doesn't happen until it gets about 50MB into the copy. Thew strange thing is, large files over the Internet are just fine as I mentioned above.
There's plenty of free space on the machine that I'm copying to but this happens repeatedly when I try to copy from one computer running Leopard to another.
I don't think this issue is related to the Airport Express because I recently created a new network to test this issue called Bedroom Airport Express. Previously, when I'd been successful performing these types of transfers, I was using the LinkSys WRT54G's built in wireless capabilities and had no issues using Go To and entering the computer's IP address.
When this issue started to occur, I was baffled so I hooked up the extra Airport Express I had lying around and I'm still seeing the same issue despite the Internet transfers working like gangbusters.
The router is still the WRT54G on AT&T's DSL network using DHCP and there's no special config., other than that I had to re-IP the internal network to 192.168.199.1 for work related reasons but that's about it.
The MTU had to be increased to 1492 for the internet to work properly when I got my first WRT54G [an older version of this device that I replaced very recently with a new one]. The firm ware version of the router is v8.00.2 and the Airport Express has been recently updated to the latest firmware available (and this issue was occurring before the firmware upgrade as I added the Airport Express as an troubleshooting method).
Does anyone know where I should begin to try to resolve this issue? I've tried LinkSys tech suppport and I still get "we're not able to provide Mac tech support" reply despite the fact that addressing the router is done via a webpage and the BSD guts under the hood. If anyone knows what if anything I can do to troubleshoot what the issue is, I would greatly appreciate the assistance.
This networking stuff is a bit of a black art to those of us that are dilletantes in this arena and I certainly qualify as a dabbler in this stuff.
    Thanks in advance,
    <DM/>

I'm new to the Apple discussions, although not new to Apple computers and I've seen that this post has received quite a few views but no responses. Maybe someone could direct me to the right place to post this, if this is not that place, or, suggest some terminal tools that I could use to troubleshoot the issue with the Airport network or LinkSys Router I'm using [WTR54G v.8.0.0.x]? Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can provide to a networking noobie.

  • My computer slows down and hangs after installing oracle 10g

My computer just slows down after installing oracle 10g. I have a pentium 4 3ghz with 512 memory (32 mb used by graphics built in card). It slows down and hanged even if I agjusted the swap memory to 800 mb. I have two swap file/page file - in drive c and drive d. I even cannot shut it down because it takes maybe 30 minutes just to see the "shut-off/log-off" screen.

Before starting up Oracle, when you go to the task manager, how much RAM does it show actually free? 512 MB is pretty small to run Oracle in the first place-- Windows and Office can use a fair chunk of RAM themselves, depending on which Office apps you are running. You may also be suprised by the amount of RAM that a web browser, email client, and the various other apps that folks generally install can use.

  • Windows Explorer EXTREMELY slow at copying files from network, but robocopy works

    Hi guys,
I'm having a REALLY BAD performance issue when copying files over from SAMBA 4 to any Windows 7 computer. To copy a folder containing 50 files with a total of 10 MB using the explorer it takes about 20 minutes (!!) at a rate of 3-5 KB/s, but when using robocopy
the same folder takes like 3 seconds to complete. Also, the issue does not occur with older versions of Windows, like Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.
Please please please come up with some ideas except the usuals like disabling Remote Differential Compression, disable autotuning using netsh, setting local security policies for NTML authentication or trying new switches / upgrading network drivers or windows.
I DID IT ALL, but nothing helped!
    Thanks in advance!

Linking in your post over on Server Fault in case it gets resolved over there first ;)

  • Slow wifi with Ralink rt3290 network adapter

I formated my laptop and installed win 7 x64 once again. My wifi was fine before but now I have installed all the drivers from HP support and my wifi speed is very slow although other laptops in my house have normal speed (about 10 times faster).I have a Ralink rt3290 adapter with driver version 5.0.45.0, I have tried to uninstall and install all the possible driver versions with no success.I tried all the forums I could find and did DNS flushing and such, the router is configured fine and is not too far or too close to my laptop. If I connect with ethernet cable my speed gets to about 80mps, when on wifi I get 5mps and on the other laptop I get 40mps.I really don't know what to do and I don't think that the adapter itself is broken. Can someone please help me?? Thank you,John

Yes there are older ones, but it sure seems odd that the older you go back the better they work... I am going to give you a link with revision histories of the drivers. Try any of them you want...I would start with 5.0.5.0 http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5229456&swItemId=ob_113862_1&swEnvOid=4059#tab-history I would also check to make sure the wireless card antennas are securely fastened to the wireless card. There are rare circumstances where one of the antennas are not securely fastened to the card during assembly and that causes all kinds of issues, needless to say.

  • Yosemite download is insanely slow (nothing wrong with my network)

Hi all, I'm trying to upgrade to Yosemite from Mavericks, or rather, I have been trying for the last 2 days. The download from the Mac store is crawling at a crazy slow rate. I've pulled about 1GB in 2 days now. It seems to get like 1MB downloaded every few minutes and the Mac Store progress says there's like 4 days left.
I've run all sorts of speed checks on my network and nothing is out of the ordinary, I can go off and download other files at over 1 MB/sec right now.
I'm at a loss as to what to do, there's not really any support for how to find out what's going on and I don't think there's anywhere other than the Mac Store I can download this from.
Does anyone else have experience with extremely slow, persisting issues with the Mac Store downloads? Any suggestions?
    Thank you

I had the same problem with a very slow download of Yosemite, I was using OS X Mavericks. My download was going to take about 2 days at 20 KB/sec and I knew my system was capable of 2 MB/sec or 100 times more speed.  My Mac and network connection was otherwise working perfectly and at good speed as is the usual situation.  I have an Apple TV and that was working great indicating Apple's giant server system was OK.  Very few people seemed to be having this slow download problem.
I tried a number of things without success, including:
    - quit all common Mac apps except Activity Monitor
    - reboot VDSL modem/router
    - reboot Mac
    - pause/resume Yosemite download many times (trying to randomly grab a good Apple server/connection)
    - try wired connection to Mac as well as Wi-Fi. Both are working fine and capable of 2 MB/sec
    - reset Safari (someone said it helped him but I'm not sure why)
    - Force Quit process "storeagent" (which does the downloading)
Then I found comments somewhere that indicated the problem might be something related to internet problems in western USA and I was probably using that part of the internet since I am located in west Canada near Vancouver BC.  Some people had solved their problem by switching from their ISP's DNS servers to other public DNS servers in the east USA.
My ISP is Telus and I was using one of their DNS servers in my area, as automatically assigned.  I tried one of the east USA DNS  servers (I think it was a Comcast one) and it didn't work for the download and Safari could not connect to anything.  Then I tried switching to the Google DNS servers at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and the download took off at the expected 2 MB/sec and it was done in less than an hour!  Another half hour and I was running Yosemite and it runs great on my 2011 Mac Mini.
Here is the procedure that worked for me:
    - pause the Yosemite download with the pause/resume button in App Store
    - Force Quit process "storeagent" using Activity Monitor (this may not be necessary)
    - Quit the App Store
    - change DNS Servers to Google DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 in System Preference / Network / Advanced / DNS.  This effects the Mac only.
    - for the above step you should write down your original DNS server settings in case you need to change them back
    - do some browsing in Safari or other browser to confirm new DNS is working OK
    - restart the App Store
    - Resume Yosemite download with App Store "resume" button.  A new version of process storeagent should start working
    - see if it now downloads faster
That's what worked for me.  Good luck!

  • Issues during reinstallation Oracle 10g express edition and Forms 6i

I've been racking my head over this issue for the past two three days. Exasperated, I tried searching in the forums but could not find a specific scenario like this.
I am facing issues while trying to get forms 6i to work with oracle 10g Express edition
i have windows XP home edition (installed service pack 2) and installed oracle 10g express edition as well as the oracle 10g express client and SQL developer on the same machine. The database started fine and I was able to use Enterprise manager.
After that I tried installing Forms 6i and whatever i try i am not able to connect to the database from Forms though I was able to connect easily from SQL developer. I used to get the error 12154 "TNS:could not resolve service name"
I dont know if Forms 6i expects the database connector string in some particular format. I searched on the net and found some people solved the issue by reinstalling the database software.
My machine name was complex so I changed it as well and reinstalled the software. Again the DB was fine and connections were fine but no way I could get forms to connect to the DB. All the time
I tried installing Forms to the same folder that Oracle express edition home in the hope that it might fix the problem. That only caused my database to crash. The oracle xe service shows as started but the Enterprise manager link does not work and it seems the database is down. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling client and server to no avail.
Has anyone gone through such a situation and solved this ? Appreciate your help.

The statement about XP Home is correct, but in this case I would say the initial problem (Forms and ORA-12154) is independent of that, it also happens in a supported environment. I think it's the old problem, a second Oracle home was installed, but tnsnames.ora containing the connect informations is located in the first home.
Either tnsnames.ora is copied from to <Second_ORACLE_HOME>\network\admin or the environment variable TNS_ADMIN is set system-wide to <First_ORACLE_HOME>\network\admin.
I think now it's necessary to create a clean machine (remove all Oracle components as explained in the database installation guide for Windows). Then repeat the installation , but XE and Forms 6i in different ORACLE_HOMEs.
