Slow response LV7.0 and waveform charts

I have noticed a couple of issues with a waveform chart (when actually plotting a waveform).
1. Sometimes when I right-click on the chart to format a axes it may take up to 5 minutes to display the window with the chart format controls. During this time task manager says the application is not responding.
2. When plotting anything with size (I am trying to plot 5 minutes of data at 512 samples/sec) the program slows to a crawl. If I plot a double data (take the Y data from the waveform) it works great. Why is there so much overhead with a waveform chart? Anyway to fix this?
3. Unrelated to a waveform chart but related to item 1. Sometimes when I try to save my VI (~470 kb) it goes into limbo and may take minutes
. Again the task manager says it is "not responding". This seems to be a theme with LV 7.0. Has anyone else run into this problem?

Without looking at the waveform chart, it is hard to say. Things like
autoscale will slow teh chart down a bit as it then needs to traverse
more data looking for min/max. And when the scales do need to change a
bit, all the data needs to be replotted, not just the new stuff.
Other things that slow down a chart are to make its background
transparent, and to make it overlapped. Finally, full screen updates on
a big monitor mean lots of data needs to be moved around to draw lines
and rectangles, and that either comes down to the CPU or video card.
If you have more questions, or a VI to look at, post again.

  • OWB Slow Response at logon and General Client Performance

Hi all wonder if anyone confirm what i am seeing is normal. I am relatively new to OWB but we are running with 10G R2 but have noticed very poor response from a client perspective particular at logon. It take around six minutes for the design center logon box to appear after you have clicked on the icon which seam very slow. Also noticed that performance reduces within the client the longer you use the product in one session.
Question: Is what i am seeing just normal performance or can the OWB performance be improved by some form of configuration either client or java settings. My PC spec is detailed below and has 2GB of memory which was recommended by Oracle
OS Name     Microsoft Windows XP Professional
    Version     5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600
    Total Physical Memory     2,048.50 MB
    Available Physical Memory     1.02 GB
    Total Virtual Memory     2.00 GB
    Available Virtual Memory     1.89 GB
    Page File Space     2.82 GB

Hey all thanks for you responses, think you might have identified the problem with the Anti Virus, rebooted machine and just start OWB on its own. Mcafee was hitting the CPU hard for five minutes and then suddenly logon box appeared so looks like thats the issue. Note sure i will be able to get that changed as it is centrally administered global setting for all machines i think. At least that explains why it took so long.
    Many thanks
Will double check the DB side of things as well

  • Java Applet - slow response over WAN and fast on LAN

    Hi All,
Using Tomcat we have a Java applet that runs very slow over the Internet but just the opposite on the LAN (fast). On our website we have a link that we click which initializes the application. it is very slow but if the same link is clicked on the LAN it is very fast in responding. We have a 10MB internet connection and even when testing with very little traffic after peak business hours we have same results. When closing the browser and reopening it is much faster the second time. This tells me it is being Cached. If I go to a system that has never accessed the applet we are very slow again. We are hosting this application for a 3rd party so we did not write the code. This company is finger pointing at Router and I am finger pointing at Java application itself maybe not being optimal.
I am attaching "debug" info from Java Console. Can anyone identify any issues from this debug output or familiarity with this type issue. Your insight is greatly appreciated.

  • Slow response when typing and/or pulling up new message

I do not have any Add-ons or extensions, so that is not the issue. I have a new computer running Windows 7, so I don't believe that is the issue either. But I have a lot of "hour-glass" time when typing and when clicking on emails to open the message. Is just seems to be responding slow. Is it Thunderbird ... or my computer?

As for Thunderbird, the only relation I could see is in line spell checking. Could you please check your Thunderbird preferences, Composition, Spelling. Does it help to uncheck 'Enable spell check as you type'?
If not, I could imagine this to be related to a virus scanner, or a display driver that is not up to date. You might be able to get an update from it from the manufacturer of your video adapter.

  • Slow Response Sun ONE 6.1 SP3 Win 2003

My Sun ONE web server is processing my JSP pages very quickly when serving one session at a time. However when there are 4 or more active sessions, it slows right down. Response time goes from 2 seconds (1 active session) to 60 seconds (multiple active sessions) for a single JSP page. I've been running the performance monitor to see if I can notice anything, but nothing seems to stand out. I have tried manipulating the Keep Alive settings and the Performance settings within the Magnus Editor but there hasn't been a noticable improvement.
I've recently upgraded to SP4 to see if this solved my problem, but there was no imporvement.
This server is an HP DL380 with dual 2.8GHz Xeon processors & 2 Gigs of RAM. There is a lot of available disk space. I'm running Windows 2003 and it's up to date with all the latest patches.

The JSP's are simply Hello World JSP's (however I created these type of JSP's for testing and they do respond slowly as well when these are multiple sessions).
These JSP functioned fine on iPlanet 6.0 SP1 (JDK 1.2.2) without any slow response on Win2K and inferior hardware.

  • Combining 2 readings into a waveform chart/graph displaying continuous readings of data from different sources

    Hi,
    In the file
(Serial Read and Write to .tdms & Compare on Graph – test.vi) I am trying
to integrate the following two waveforms into a single waveform: Realtime
reading and Waveform chart (open vi to see). Both of them display speed vs time
but from different outputs. One comes from an excel file (Teraterm – Results.xlsx
    – sheet 4, (column 3:row 4) to (column 3:row 1878)) and the other comes from
the Serial input which is in Hex format and is split to get the various readings
of speed, voltage etc. I have already wired speed to a variety of waveform
outputs, but all result in broken wires.
The readings are taken in by the program
and but I am unable to wire the two readings together into one graph.
Please do let me know as to how can I make this work.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Dear GerdW,
I'm sorry again about the misspelling your nick.
I tried connecting a waveform chart to the two terminals (speed from the DAQ and speed from the excel file) but I was unable to get the connection right. I understand that charts are used for readings which are equally spaced out, whereas XY graphs are used when the readings are not be spaced out uniformly. But I am unable to wire the connections correctly.
Actually the DAQ device continuously sends out data through the serial port. So I would not run out of data . Are you referring to the data coming from the DAQ device or the excel file? I actually have not thought of what would happen when the excel file would run out of values I am just hoping for the software to run till then for now
I have cleared up the wires as well Thanks for your help.

  • How to take waveform chart data and put it into an array

    Hello all,
I am new to programming in Labview, and am learning basically by watching youtube video and such. My question is how to take a set of random data that I have written code for and linked to a waveform chart, and put the data into an array so I can calculate the mean of the data set. If there is an easier way to calculate the mean of the data set I am all ears, but I need to be able to display the mean on the front panel each time the code is run. I have attached a file of my code.
    Thanks

    Welcome.
If you have not done so, look at the on-line tutorials on Getting Started with LabVIEW on the NI web site.
A chart has a property known as History which retains some previous values.  You can get access to the the History property by popping up on the block diagram terminal of the chart and selecting Create >> Property Node. Note that the history length can be set via a pop up menu.  The default length is 1024.
Other comments: When you know the number of iteration in advance you should use a for loop rather than the while loop.
You can also use an autoindexing tunnel at the boundary of the loop to create an array. It only contains the values from the current run, unlike the chart history which can retain values between runs (as long as the VI remains in memory). Watch the two Mean indicators as you run this VI several times.
The error wire is to assure that the history property node runs after the loop.  Disconnect the wire and watch the Mean and Mean 2 indicators carefully.
The Wait is to slow things down a bit so that you can see what is happening.

  • How can I change the color of plot in a waveform chart and graph?

There are 4 plots in a waveform chart, from plot0 to plot3, and I want to chang the color of plots dynamicly up to my needs when the VI is running.
For example, as show in the picture, i want to set the plot0 as RED, and plot1 is BLUE, plot2 is YELLOW, plot3 is GRAY.
If there is only one plot, i can change it's color, however when there are more than one plot, it fail.
    How can I do it?

    Hello MilkyStone,
first you have to set the active plot, then change its color (or other properties). All that is done using property nodes.

  • Very slow response when I click on a link, but almost instant response if I go back and click a second time.

I often get very slow response when I click on a link, any link. But if I go back and click on the link again, then the page will open almost immediately. I discovered this by accident and noticed that this happens every time. It would be nice if I got fast response on the first click without having to do this silly procedure and it seems to me that there's a simple fix. I would appreciate it if you could help. I'm open to any and all ideas. Thanks again.

  • How to show two different plots with current system time and date on waveform chart

I am using  one waveform chart to display the more than one value continiously. The data  are comming properly but i am not getting my system (pc) time and date on x axis. It is showing default date and time (i.e.01/01/1904 5:30:45). Please  give me suggestions to display the real time and date on x axis of waveform chart.

How does your data look like? Do you graph waveform data types, dynamic data, or plain arrays/clustes? In the case of plain arrays, you need to set x0 to the absolute start time of your data, e.g. with a property node.
I you would attach your code (or an image) we could offer more specific advice. There are too many possibilities.

  • Using collections and experiencing slow response

I am experiencing slow response when using htmldb_collection. I was hoping someone might point me in another direction or point to where the delay may be occurring.
First a synopsis of what I am using these collections for. The main collections are used in order to enable the users to work with multiple rows of data (each agreement may have multiple inbound and outbound tiered rates). These collections, OBTCOLLECTION and IBTCOLLECTION, seem to be fine. The problem arises from the next set of collections.
OBTCOLLECTION and IBTCOLLECTION each contain a field for city, product, dial code group and period. Each of these fields contains a semi-colon delimited string. When the user chooses to view either the outbound tiers (OBTCOLLECTION) or the inbound tiers (IBTCOLLECTION), I generate four collections based on these four fields, parsing the delimited strings, for each tier (record in the OBT or IBT collection). Those collections are used as the bases for multiple select shuttles when the user edits an individual tier.
Here is the collection code for what I am doing.
When the user chooses an agreement to work with, by clicking on an edit link, they are sent to page 17 (as you see referenced in the code). That page has the on-demand process below triggered on load, after footer.
-- This process Loads the collections used
-- for the Inbound and Outbound tier details
         -- OBTCOLLECTION

Try to instrument/profile your code by putting timing statements after each operation. This way you can tell which parts are taking the most time and address them.

  • Using Waveform Chart, inconsistent results when setting X range and delta X properties

I have isolated my problem to a simple vi consisting of only a waveform chart (attached). I am using LV 5.1.1. I have used an attribute node to set x minimum to 0, x maximum to 10, delta x to be entered by the user, and have turned autoscaling off.
When I plot 2 random points, x maximum is inconsistent, and doesn't stay at 10 when the vi is run several times in a row. Specifically, the first time the vi is run (after delta x is changed), x maximum changes. Then, the second time it is run, the max typically goes back to 10. However, when run several times in a row, x max will fluctuate. Specifically, I tried entering a delta x of 8. Mostly, the min is 0, max is 10,
and the line between the 2 random points plots from 0 to 8 along the x axis (good). However, every once in a while, the x max will go to 8.
This behavior is very strange, and will not allow me to program my actual application correctly until I fully understand what is happening. I would assume since Waveform Chart has these attributes to set, I can still using the Waveform Chart, and don't have to completely restructure my program to use another display.

That is the expected behavior, it is only that you don't assign the properties in the right order. If you set the XScale.Multipler before min and max all is how you expect it. When you set the multiplier, min and max are automatically changed to reflect the scale changes thus overwriting your previous settings.

  • Waveform chart, plot and Dynamics Data and double data

    Hello everyone !
I would like to get separate plots on the same waveform chart.
Actually, I am simulating 4 signals (but in reality, it would be signal from sensors) and I would like to get 4 plots.
In the end, I get 3 plots and no 4 plots.
It is very strange... Yet, I have selected 'Stack plots' and '4 plots shown'.
Actually, I can see the last data has been merged with the first one.
How can I fix that ?
    Thank you !

I'm not sure how you got into this state but try going into the chart properties (right click front panel chart and click Properties from menu) and under the appearance tab, unclick "stack plots", unclick "Show digital displays(s), hit "OK", then go into properties again and reselect those two boxes and hit okay. It should correct the problem.
All statements are my opinion and worth every cent you paid for them.

  • Waveform chart slow to read samples AIs when sending AOs

    Hi all,
I am using labview to sample AI signals and send AO signals sampling at 4k with 400 samples to read... The AOs are triggered using buttons on the frontal (E-stim or M-Stim).. When the E-stim button is pushed it will generate a square-wave signal with the freq and pulse characteristics as selected on frontal panel (default is 1 pulse at 50Hz)... These are pulses are used to control a muscle stimulator... So the idea is to be able to send whatever signal I want and have the stimulator deliver that same stimulus to the muscle (e.g. 10 pulses at 50Hz, or 5 pulses at 100Hz, etc etc).. To check the timing of this, I connected the AO to the "trigger in" on the stimulator and the "trigger out" on the stimulator to an AI channel... The pulses are coming through from the stimulator as expected...
However, when I send the AO pulses labview seems to "freeze" or "suspend" until all output pulses are sent... This is very apparent with a high number of pulses (e.g. 10 pulses at 50Hz)... That is, the waveform chart freezes/stops scrolling until all AO signals are sent, then the chart updates all the pulses in one hit and continuous displaying data; rathe than have each pulse displayed individually...Why concern is that AI during the AO phase may be losted ot not sampled properly...
Can anyone provide me with an explanation for this behaviour? I am using a LV2010SP1 and a USB-6218 BNC multifuction DAQ.
    Thanks!

    Hello Jack,
    Reviewed the code.
Remember The way labview executes code, Labview executes code by flow of information meaning that it is going to wait untill the neccesary items are ready before executing the next part of the code.
For example If we want to make a simple add function for "x" and "y" labview is going to wait untill both inputs are ready for operation before operating and outputing  "z" as a result.
It does it the same way everytime. I took the time and rearranged the code so we can understand it better, The execution happens from left to right, from top to bottom.
If we refer to the image, the arrows show us the flow of information of the VI, The DAQ assitant, the filtering of the signal and the Triggering is done before you actually output data through device1 analog output.
The code is expected to work that way cause it waits untill done acquiring with the DAQ asistant to start generating an output.
I can think of different options,
-You can modify this VI so that the output takes place regardless of the input data
-Having two different vis where you can set the read and write at different rates, using a functional global variable.
    -Using a producer/consumer architecture.
This is an example that I think might be useful.

  • Operating a Waveform Chart Backwards and Forwards

I want to acquire data to a waveform chart. I want to be able to reverse the direction of my acquisition so as to overwrite the data that I have just acquired when needed and then go back forward - and so on. Does anybody know how I might be able to accomplish this or know of an example that may already do this? Thanks

You can't do that with a waveform chart but you can do it with a waveform graph. See attached example.
