Slow Response Sun ONE 6.1 SP3 Win 2003

My Sun ONE web server is processing my JSP pages very quickly when serving one session at a time. However when there are 4 or more active sessions, it slows right down. Response time goes from 2 seconds (1 active session) to 60 seconds (multiple active sessions) for a single JSP page. I've been running the performance monitor to see if I can notice anything, but nothing seems to stand out. I have tried manipulating the Keep Alive settings and the Performance settings within the Magnus Editor but there hasn't been a noticable improvement.
I've recently upgraded to SP4 to see if this solved my problem, but there was no imporvement.
This server is an HP DL380 with dual 2.8GHz Xeon processors & 2 Gigs of RAM. There is a lot of available disk space. I'm running Windows 2003 and it's up to date with all the latest patches.
Anyone have any ideas or experienced this before?
I've attached the output from my performance monitor:

The JSP's are simply Hello World JSP's (however I created these type of JSP's for testing and they do respond slowly as well when these are multiple sessions).
These JSP functioned fine on iPlanet 6.0 SP1 (JDK 1.2.2) without any slow response on Win2K and inferior hardware.

• Can't install Sun One Application Server 7 (Win XP)

When I run the setup.exe it shows me the following message at the windows console:
launching installer....Error writing native components to disk. Aborting wizard
Thanks. :)

Since I am working on troubleshooting of this problem, I would very much appreciate if you could check something on the machine where you encountered this problem. Do you, by any chance, have a file called Documents on your home drive (most likely c:\documents)?
If so, and if you temporarily rename this file, does the problem go away?
Thank you in advance.

• Does Sun One crashes with Win 2003 ?

When I deployed the app in a Win NT 2000 I dont have any problem but when I'm using Windows NT 2003 server, with cold fusion and Sun One Server 6.1.
I faced that images and css files are not loaded correctly.
In some desktops I can not see the app since Windows Explorer but in others I can. They have the same connection configuration.
Even I'm receiving this exception.

Cheers,

IIRC this file, sasl32.dll, should get installed onto %WINDIR%\system32 when you install DS5.2 windows version.
You may run WinZIP and File/Open "d52diu.zip" (DS5.2 zip image) and look for "nsbasesys.zip", double click to Open it and you should find "sasl32.dll" there.

• Sun One / Win ME / Mandrake Linux

Okay, this is driving me nuts. I am running Windows ME on one partition on my box. I used to have forte installed a while ago, btu for some reason I got rid of it. Now I am doing something that I would like to use it as a resource for and I come to find out it is Sun One now. SO I dl it and I go to install and teh installer freezes while looking for J2SDK. So I uninstalled J2SDK and dl the most recent version and reinstalled it. Still does the same thing.
So here is my question: realizing that Sun one is not particularly supported on ME, is that what is causing the install to freeze? If not, do you know what the problem might be? And if Forte installed, why oh why wouldn't Sun One.
If ME is the problem, I have Mandrake Linux on another partition (Yeah, I'd love Red Hat, but it was free and I am broke, so it seemed like a good idea) and it seems that only Red hat is supported. Should I bother downloading and trying to install on Mandrake (I use KDE btw)?

• Sun ONE Directory SDK for C support on RHAs 4.0 and Win 2003 R2

What version of Sun One Directory SDK supported on RHAS 4.0 and Windows 2003 R2.
Please confirm.
Thanks,
Rahul

The C-SDK that will come with Directory Server Enterprise Edition 6 will support both RH AS 4 and Windows 2003.
But for today, I would say that the version in mozilla.org does support them.
We are currently contributing all of our changes, bug fixes and improvements to Mozilla.org and future versions of the Sun C-SDK will be directly built from Mozilla.org sources.

I am a newbie to sun one directory server but i am familiar with windows active directory.
I have followed the instructions and installed Sun One Directory Server on Windows 2000 Server using a typical setup and create a domain and also created some users in that domain.
The next thing i wanted to do was to add a windows 2000 professional desktop on this domain and login with one of the user accounts. I tried to adding the computer to the domain via the "My Computer->Network Identification->Properties->Domain" option and gave the domain name as the one i created on the Sun One Directory Server, but i get an error saying that domain was not found.
Am i missing something here. Do i need to install some client piece on the windows 2000 desktop to add the box on the sun one domain and login in as one of the users.
Any help will be deeply appreciated?
Thanks,
Raj...

yes, you can use samba for a windows client to login to ldap
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html#id2536158
, but for windows XP clients you need to tweak the registry

• Slow response on Windows 2003 with web forms

We are current running Oracle web forms on thin clients on Windows 2000 terminal server. We have installed Windows 2003 on one node of the cluster. When we run the same application on 2003, it is very slow and the screen flashes a lot. It takes 1-2 seconds to echo a keystroke. This is true for Jinitiator 1.3.1.25 and 1.3.1.18. We are using 1.3.1.18 on the Win 2000 terminal server. When I try form=test on Win 2003, the screen has colors and has poorer resolution that running the same on Win2003. The form has a grey background on Win 2000 but is magenta in Win 2003 and you can barely make out the hammer in the prompt. This happens when running from the same thin client with the same resolution and colors. Is there a setting on IE that could be causing this? Is there a problem with Win 2003? The Oracle application server is 9iAS but we see the same probelm with 10g.
Thanks,
Dave

Copying my response from this thread:
Report in Designer fast, in Viewer extremely slow
Thread is now locked.
A "cool" issue, form my perspective as this may be something new to think about / figure out. Not so cool from where you sit...
Anyhow, a few things to check:
1) Compare the runtime of your dev system and the Citrix system. Use Modules to do the comparison.
2) Not sure what runtime was installed, but the most recent MSI / MSM are from SP 1.4:
MSI
https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100004610752009E/cr2008_fp14_ri.zip
MSM
https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100004610922009E/cr2008_fp14_mm.zip
Trying the FP 1.4 runtime will be worth a shot.
3) How is the performance on the Citrix when you actually sit right on the server, and not on a work station?
4) Where is the slow down occurring (unfortunately this will require a bit of temporary code modification)? But the bottle necks typically are at:
-report load
- connection to the data source
- setting of parameters
- actual report output, be it to a viewer, export or printer.
I suggest a possible way of tackling this in the performance article (page 4):

• Very slow response when I click on a link, but almost instant response if I go back and click a second time.

I often get very slow response when I click on a link, any link. But if I go back and click on the link again, then the page will open almost immediately. I discovered this by accident and noticed that this happens every time. It would be nice if I got fast response on the first click without having to do this silly procedure and it seems to me that there's a simple fix. I would appreciate it if you could help. I'm open to any and all ideas. Thanks again.
Sincerely,

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

The broker generates these warning when it expects certain
protocol from the client but does not receive it in the 180 second
reply window. When this occurs the connection to the client is
closed by the broker.
For example when a client makes a connection to the broker
the broker sends an AUTHENTICATE_REQUEST to the client.
The client should reply with an AUTHENTICATE response.
If the broker does not receive that response in 180 seconds
it generates the warning you are seeing and closes the connection for the client.
What can cause a client not to respond? If it is on a very heavly
loaded system it may not repond in time - but 180 seonds is a
long time. But given you are using the HTTPS service it is
possible the https servlet is the slow point given it may be
processing many clients. The broker could potentially be the
problem if it is heavly loaded or the host it is running on is
heavily loaded. You should rule all these out first.
To debug this you might try increasing the timeout to see
if that helps the situation:
# timeout in seconds in waiting for client hello and response to
# authentication request on a connection
imq.authentication.client.response.timeout=180

• Reg: sun one directory server 5.2 rreplication

Hi,
I have two sun one directory servers(5.2 sp4) on two different solaris machines.
There is replication setup between them.
Now I see some nodes are not getting updated data from the master node to the consumer node.
when i looked into the log file, I see following message in error file.
[12/Mar/2010:15:41:50 +0000] - WARNING<10307> - Replication - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - Configuration warning Tombstone purging internal search is unin
dexed in replica dc=abc,dc=com
[12/Mar/2010:15:53:38 +0000] - ERROR<8320> - Repl. Transport - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - [S] End Failed with response: Consumer acks are missing (825)
if any one has come across this issue, please let me know how to solve this.
Thanks & Regards
Venu Gopal Maggidi

You should upgrade to 5.2 p6 to benefit from some optimizations that will make the tombstone entries search faster.
Check this document: http://docs.sun.com/source/820-3003/index.html
... and especially problem #6175472 .
If you just have a few "Consumer acks are missing (825)" error messages, you can safely ignore them as it just a warning
in the replication protocol due to a slow network or machine. In your case, one of the server at least is slow because it has to
perform an unindexed search. Upgrading to v 5.2p6 will enable you to create the required indexes and matching rules so you
don't have any more unindexed search ...

• Unable to login to Sun ONE Server Console 5.2 on XP

I've installed 5.2 on my new Win XP Dell Inspiron 5150. Both the admin52-serv and slapd services are started and netstat shows the ports listening. When I attempt to login to the console I get an HTTP Response Timeout error, yet there's nothing logged to the error log.
I've verified that the firewall is disabled, I can ping the laptop from any other machine on the network.
Anybody have any ideas?
TIA,
Todd

@ O.P.,
You cross-posted this to at least two other forum web sites:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/solaris-opensolaris-20/application-running-too-slow-on-sun-sparc-t5440-but-run-normal-on-sun-m3000-4175411155/
http://www.unix.com/solaris/189945-application-running-too-slow-sun-sparc-t5440-but-run-normal-sun-m3000.html
... and didn't think that was important enough to simply mention the fact.
Timestamps suggest that OTN was the last place you posted to.
Poor forum etiquette.
Why would anyone spend the time to try to give help that you have already received elsewhere? That's a waste of their time.
(Yes, you already received the suggestion to use Dtrace in one of those other sites.)

Thanks,
Alon

You most likely skipped the step of starting the installed server prior to trying to access admin URL. Please check this document:
http://docs.sun.com/source/817-1830-10/win.html
Relevant section is:
You can start the Administration Server in either of the following ways:
# Select Start Menu -> Programs -> Sun ONE Web Server, and choose Start Web Server Administration Server.
# From the Control Panels Services item.
