Slow response time for JSP pages under iAS 6.0 SP4

Hi,
I got an application deployed on iplanet app server 6.0 SP4 on solaris
2.8. Using a single kjs engine and lite sessions. kjs memory size is
min 256 and max 256 megs. but verbose:gc shows memory is 98% free.
when i restart the app server, all JSP pages are really rendered fast.
After a while (1 or 2 days), the time to service the same request to
JSP pages is getting much longer (even with JSP pages having only
static content in them). CPU is idle ... It just takes time. KXS log
shows requet is taking like 2-4 seconds instead of about 150 milli
secs when the engine is just restarted.
Now if i call a servlet (which do not dispath to a JSP), the response
time is ok! Memory is ok. It looks like its related to JSP pages
only.
Anyone having an idea what the problem could be? One conig param is
the JSP page cache in iASAT. Default value is 10. What is a correct
setting for production? I have 4 different web app deployed in the
same server instance.
Tanks a lot for your input
Andre Paradis

Andre,
I have found the answer to my problem and perhaps yours. It seems that I18N (internationalization) in SP4 may have a performance bug in it.
My soak tests show that with i18N checked in the iAS Admin Tool, testing the fortune cookie sample application with light load (1 request / sec) resulted in a kxs response time initially of 15ms, however this response time increased by roughly 1% per request (i.e after 100 requests the response time had more than doubled).
Switching I18N off yielded a steady 7ms kxs response time from the fortune cookie application.
I would add that I turned I18N on AFTER the installation procedure.
Is this a known issue in SP4? Is there a patch?
regards,
Owen

  • Slow response time for HTTP requests

I have an 8310 Pearl. For the past week, I've noticed that the response time using the Internet browser was very slow. One work-around was to cancel the request and then submit it again. The second request returned the page MUCH faster.
I cleared my history, and this seemed to have helped. Has anyone else noticed this? Thanks

    Welcome to the forums
    Try a Battery Pull:
    1. Remove the battery while phone is turned on
    2. Wait a few seconds before inserting it again
    3. Allow the long boot up process to finish (takes a few minutes usually)
This clears most software issues that occur on blackberries from time to time. You could also use Quickpull, a free app that simulates a battery pull without physically removing the battery: http://software.crackberry.com/product.asp?id=27660
A battery pull reclaims memory lost during application usage and clears minor software errors that creep in over time. The blackberry runs an OS just like your PC runs windows and the battery pull is the equivalent of a reboot/restart on your computer.

  • Slow response time for radio buttons on Internet Explorer 7

    Hi,
We're using ADF 11.1.1.4 on weblogic 10.3.4 on a Solaris 10 (sparc) platform. The architecture also uses OHS and Webcache 11.1.1.4.
One of our applications has a webpage that is composed of several tabs, inside each tab we have some questions with radio buttons. When a client responds all questions on the first tab it moves to the second, where the application loads the necessary questions, based on the answers provided on the first tab. Once the client finishes answering this tab it moves to the third one and so on.
The problem appears once the tabs are loaded. Each time the client clicks one of the radio buttons, Internet Explorer takes between 3 to 5 seconds to return control, and considering that a client might need to click dozens of radio buttons to complete a process, it becomes a very exhausting task. It's worth noting that the session information is persisted for each radio button, when we move between tabs all answers are kept even if we didn't saved the progress.
On the other side, if we use Google Chrome 16, we find that the webpage returns control to the user almost inmediately, when clicking the radio buttons the response time is usually at 1 second or less.
We've checked that the app server is not stressed, heap memory is nowhere near the maximum assigned and the used processor % is very low, so it does not seems to be a resource problem.
Is there any known issue with ADF 11.1.1.4 and IE7/8 that affects the browser's response time? Are there any guidelines or recommendations regarding how to make the radio button component work properly? Has anybody noticed this behavior in adf?
    Thanks.

I think that the most accurate description of the problem is that the autosubmit action of the radio button takes considerably longer in IE7 than in Chrome.

  • Why does HP LoadRunner measure slow response time for SAP GUI selection steps?

We are running HP LoadRunner 11.52 scenarios out to multiple (up to 4) load generators.  Load generators have 24 GB ram and 8 CPU's.  We have run a maximum of 200 users and see a maximum usage of ~25% on CPU's.  We were previously running SAP GUI 7.4 and downgraded to 7.3 when we came to understand 7.4 is not supported in PAM for LR 11.52.  Regardless, our results have not changed.  What we are trying to resolve is why the first two steps of opening the SAP GUI and entering system-related selection is taking so long to process?  Additionally, we typically see that during the time escalation of those steps, that there is a period where the process seems to pause for a large time gap.  The process below shows a snapshot while in progress.  The SAP GUI steps are hitting severe peaks wthile all other steps during the process tend to track at a steady quick response time.  Any degradation there looks to be tied to the long pauses.
Would anyone have knowledge or experience with this type of output and understand why it might be consistenty happening?  Thanks.

  • Slow response times

This last weekend, we migrated off of our old server 2003 cf7mx server, to a new Server 2008r2 x64 CF 9,0,1,274733 server.  We are now experiencing slow response times for our server, according to the Windows Performance monitor our Avg Request times are way up. I have been going through some logs but nothing seems to leap out at me, but i am not the best CF admin.  As i dont know what information would be usefull, i have tried to give all the info.

Please let me know if any other data would be usefull.

    Hi,
I expect the error details in CF9\runtime\logs\coldfusion-out.log will like provide a clue as to problem.
For a more long term plan I think you should do what you can to migrate the ACCESS data to SQL or some other database.
    HTH, Carl.

  • T400s and T500 experiencing slow response time accessing certain websites from within our network

Hello there.... we have some Lenovo T400s running Windows 7 and T500 running WinXP Pro that are experiencing slow response time when trying to access certain website from within our company network (particularly this global crossing Web meeting, google maps): https://core1.callinfo.com/interface/guest.jsp?host=globalcrossing ... it takes 10-15 minutes before it loads the meeting login screen and same response time for google maps to respond as well... the thing is, other Lenovo T400s, T61, and other HP desktop machines that are connected to the same network in our company does not experience this slow response time... HOWEVER, when these problematic T400s / T500 laptops are connected to external network (e.g. home DSL, hotel DSL/Cable modem) the problem goes away.   Our NETWORK ran tests to monitor traffic to the websites from our company's network but seem to connect just fine... just wondering if anybody out there experienced the same problem and know of a solution.  By the way, the two newer T400s that are experiencing the slow response time have the following BIOS version 1.11 (6HET26WW) and BIOS version 1.09 (6HET24WW).  Then a T400s that is also connected to the same network but not experiencing the problem has a BIOS version of 1.02 (6HET17WW - running WinXP Pro).   NOTE: We also connected a Linksys USB wireless adapter to connect to our wireless network in the company but same problem - and problem occurs even when connected via network cable.  Your feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Network World posted an article about a free response time monitoring tool that would be worth checking out

  • Slow response time, applications won't load, etc.

I'm writing this on behalf of my sister, who is on a MacBook Pro, operating Mac OS 10.4.8.
Just yesterday, she began to notice extremely slow response time on her laptop, with applications taking up to 5 minutes to load sometimes, and the Internet subsequently taking ages to switch from page to page. The laptop is also constantly freezing up, with the spinning circle showing up frequently, as well as complete system freezes on and off.
I went on the computer and repaired disk permissions, as well as verified the disk. All went fine. Tried to do a software update in order to update to 10.4.9, but the computer freezes before it can even really begin to download the information.
Numerous reboots were also tried, with nothing working. I don't want to have to do something extreme like reinstalling the operating system without knowing that there might be a simpler solution, so that's why I'm here! I'd also like to know whether we can save her files (documents, etc.), if a reinstallation is needed.
Edit: She reports that she did install or download any software or file attachments, and keeps insisting that the problem virtually came out of nowhere, in case this helps!
    Thanks!
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Alright-her computer has gotten progressively worse, and has not even managed to reach the log in screen for the past 10 minutes. Just a grey screen, an apple, and the little twirling loading thing.
Am at a loss as to what to do...last night, I could log in, but it was still hanging and taking just about forever for it to do anything.
Is a reformat the only thing left to do? She does subscribe to AppleCare-is it worth calling them, or will they just tell her to reformat as well?
Edit: I'm beginning to think this might date back to a lightning storm we had a couple days ago-does this sort of behaviour seem to follow the behaviour or something that experienced an electrical surge? Her phone in the room was acting funny as well for a few days.

  • Strange response time for an RFC call viewed from STAD on R/3 4.7

    Hello,
On our R/3 4.7 production system, we have a lot of external RFC calls to execute an  abap module function. There are 70 000 of these calls per day.
The mean response time for this RFC call is 35 ms.
Some times a few of them (maybe 10 to 20 per day) are way much longer.
I am currently analysing with STAD one of these long calls  which lasted 10 seconds !
Here is the info from STAD
    Response time :                10 683 ms
Total time in workprocess : 10 683 ms
    CPU time  :                               0 ms
    RFC+CPIC time :                       0 ms
Wait for work process           0 ms
    Processing time           10.679 ms
    Load time                            1 ms
    Generating time                   0 ms
    Roll (in) time                        0 ms
    Database request time         3 ms
    Enqueue time                      0 ms
    Number      Roll ins            0
                     Roll outs           0
                     Enqueues         0
    Load time   Program             1  ms
                      Screen              0  ms
                     CUA interf.          0  ms
    Roll time    Out                 0  ms
                      In                  0  ms
                    Wait                0  ms
    Frontend    No.roundtrips       0
                      GUI time            0  ms
                      Net time            0  ms
There is nearly no abap processing in the function module.
I really don't uderstand what is this  10 679 ms processing time especially with 0 ms cpu time and 0 ms wait time.
A usual fast RFC call gives this data
    23 ms response time
    16 ms cpu time
    14 ms processing time
    1 ms load time
    8 ms Database request time
Does anybody have an idea of what is the system doing during the 10 seconds  processing time ?
    Regards,
    Olivier

    Hi Graham,
Thank you for your input and thoughts.
I will have to investigate on RZ23N and RZ21 because I'm not used to use them.
I'm used to investigate performance problems with ST03 and STAD.
My system is R/3 4.7 WAS 6.20. ABAP and BASIS 43
    Kernel 6.40 patch level 109
We know these are old patch levels but we are not allowed to stop this system for upgrade "if it's not broken" as it is used 7/7 24/24.
I'm nearlly sure that the problem is not an RFC issue because I've found other slow dialog steps for web service calls and even for a SAPSYS technical dialog step  of type <no buffer>. (what is this ?)
This SAPSYS dialog step has the following data :
    User : SAPSYS
    Task type : B
    Program : <no buffer>
    CPU time                       0 ms
    RFC+CPIC time              0 ms
Total time in workprocs    5.490 ms
    Response time               5.490 ms
Wait for work process           0 ms
    Processing time             5.489 ms
    Load time                            0 ms
    Generating time                   0 ms
    Roll (in+wait) time                0 ms
Database request time          1 ms ( 3 Database requests)
    Enqueue time                       0 ms
All hundreds of other SAPSYS <no buffer> steps have a less than 5 ms response time.
It looks like the system was frozen during 5 seconds...

I'm thinking also now about the message server as there is load balancing for each RFC call ?

  • Significant difference in response times for same query running on Windows client vs database server

I have a query which is taking a long time to return the results using the Oracle client.
When I run this query on our database server (Unix/Solaris) it completes in 80 seconds.
When I run the same query on a Windows client it completes in 47 minutes.
Ideally I would like to get a response time equivalent on the Windows client to what I get when running this on the database server.
In both cases the query plans are the same.
The query and plan is shown below :
    {code}
    SQL> explain plan
      2  set statement_id = 'SLOW'
      3  for
      4  SELECT DISTINCT /*+ FIRST_ROWS(503) */ objecttype.id_object
      5  FROM documents objecttype WHERE objecttype.id_type_definition = 'duotA9'
      6  ;
    Explained.
    SQL> select * from table(dbms_xplan.display('PLAN_TABLE','SLOW','TYPICAL'));
    PLAN_TABLE_OUTPUT
    | Id  | Operation          | Name      | Rows  | Bytes |TempSpc| Cost (%CPU)|
    |   0 | SELECT STATEMENT   |           |  2852K|    46M|       | 69851   (1)|
    |   1 |  HASH UNIQUE       |           |  2852K|    46M|   153M| 69851   (1)|
    |*  2 |   TABLE ACCESS FULL| DOCUMENTS |  2852K|    46M|       | 54063   (1)|
    {code}
Are there are configuration changes that can be done on the Oracle client or database to improve the response times for the query when it is running from the client?
The version on the database server is 10.2.0.1.0
The version of the oracle client is also 10.2.0.1.0
I am happy to provide any further information if required.
    Thank you in advance.

I have a query which is taking a long time to return the results using the Oracle client.
When I run this query on our database server (Unix/Solaris) it completes in 80 seconds.
When I run the same query on a Windows client it completes in 47 minutes.
There are NO queries that 'run' on a client. Queries ALWAYS run within the database server.
A client can choose when to FETCH query results. In sql developer (or toad) I can choose to get 10 rows at a time. Until I choose to get the next set of 10 rows NO rows will be returned from the server to the client; That query might NEVER complete.
You may get the same results depending on the client you are using. Post your question in a forum for whatever client you are using.

  • ISA Server 2006 + Average response time for Non Cached requests = performance issues?!?!?!

    All,
I am in a predicament with internet browsing speeds...We have a 3rd party look after our line and internet facing f/w  so I cant troubleshoot them, so at the moment Im looking at ISA as the potential bottleneck - we have a fairly standard environment:
    Internal > Local Host > Perimiter n/work > Firewall > Internet
I have been running custom reports on the ISA server to see what data can be collected - I have noticed that "Average response time for non cached requests" (traffic by time of day) can be as high as 76 seconds!!!!!! Cached hits are between .5
    and 2 seconds.
I have also coonfigured a connectivity verifier which is also flagging slow connectivity, massively over the >5000ms and also reporting "cant resolve server name on occassions- and this is configured for
www.Microsoft.com --- DNS ???!?!, however I have looked through DNS (no obvious errors / config issues) which I can see
I have run the BPA on ISA server to ensure its Health - - connectivity verifier errors flagged timeouts to microsoft.com as expected...
Can anyone advise any obvious areas to investigate as Im struggling! - as always the 3rd party have told us the internet pipe is fine :O

    Problem resolved.
DNS forwarders have been changed on the ISA server / DNS and this has improved lookup speed considerably.
    thanks all :)

  • Proxy Server asking for username and password almost 6 times for every page I load, but the same doesn't happen with other browsers like chrome

The same question keeps popping up again and again "The proxy moz-proxy://proxy.iitm.ac.in:3128 is requesting a username and password. The site says: "moz-proxy://proxy.iitm.ac.in:3128""
Even after i give the right details, it asks me like 5 more times before it completely loads the page. Some times it happens only 2 times.
With other browsers like chrome, it asks only in the beginning. it doesn't occur after that.
This started occurring only recently. i upgraded to firefox 9.0 and it functioned properly for more than 12 hours before it started occuring. i tried downgrading back to 8.0.1 but the problem still continued.

i'm afraid i need to use proxy settings to connect to internet. The settings are all fine because it used to work properly all this time. i specify the proxy address and the port, which is correct, i am very confident. it is so because the page actually loads on firefox, but not before it asks for my user name and password for it a lot of times, and for every page. for other browsers, it asks only in the beginning, that is, when i start the browser.
i've put three pics here. under the first two settings, the third image showing the user name and password thingy popping up. this happens a lot of times for every page.

  • EJB slow response time in cluster

We have 2 clusters : cluster 1(3 managed servers) and cluster2( 2 managed servers). We have an EJB deployed on cluster2 which is being called by an application on cluster1. Issue is that this EJB gives a very slow response time (in the order of minutes). There are no errors or exceptions in the logs.
When we shut down one of the nodes on cluster2, the respose from the same EJB is very fast. Please help as to where we should look out for the issue?

Could be that you have a network configuration problem. The source of the problem is how host names and IP addresses are resolved,
and there is a workaround. RMI and other naming services use the InetAddress class to obtain resolved host names and IP addresses.
InetAddress caches lookup results to improve subsequent calls, but when it is passed a new IP address or host name, it performs a
cross-reference between the IP address and the host name to prevent address spoofing. If you supply the host name as an IP address,
InetAddress still tries to verify the name of the host. To workaround this problem, include the host name and IP address in the
hosts file on the client, for example,
    127.0.0.1           localhost
    172.30.0.129      SomeWebLogicServerHostName
    172.30.0.130      SomeOtherWebLogicServerHostName

  • Experiencing very slow response time using AirPort while wired response is fine. Suggestions?

After a surfing session a few weeks ago the response time for my AirPort internet connection became painfully slow.  When I plug in to the wired connection it works fine.  Resetting the router and modem doesn't seem to fix it.  What might have happened and what can I do to fix it?

It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference that appears during these hours that is preventing your AirPort Base Station from providing a clean RF signal.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like iStumbler, Wi-Fi Explorer or AirRadar to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible.

  • Very slow response, stopping for seconds in the middle of typing an email

I'm having very slow response time with Firefox, so much so that I've switched to IE (gasp!). It'll stop suddenly for several seconds in the middle of typing an email and I have to wait to start typing again. Websites are timing out or just taking a very long time to respond after clicking on something. Yahoo in particular is extremely slow.

For me, I think the "Skype Click to Call 5.11.0.9874" addon was causing the slow response. Once I disabled this addon Firefox was responding normally.
