Small Unwanted Image Movement in .swf File
Hi. I'm not a Flash developer, so please excuse this question
if it is sophomoric. Someone created a .swf file for my site that
transitions multiple images in & out. It can be seen here:
http://www.shadyladylighting.com.
The problem is the images seem to abruptly move/jump as they
are in transition. It's almost as if they jump quickly before they
change. You have to look close to see it, but it's very annoying
once you see it happening.
Can anyone tell me what the problem is and how it should be
fixed? Although I can't fix it I must hire someone to do so, and
basically I want to know what the problem is before I pay someone
to fix it.
Thanks,
Mike
Hard to say what that problem is without seeing the source
(FLA) file - do you have that by chance?

Firefox will not show links to flv files. I get the error message for each flv file: "File not found. Firefox can't find the file at http:// (path) .flv." Any mov and swf files in this same path will show. I can see the videos in Safari so the paths are correct.
Is this a webpage that contains a link to a flv file? Please post a link to the page and tell us which link(s) are the problem flv files or else post a link to the .flv file itself.
Alternately, click on one of the sample FLV File links on this page and tell us exactly what happens:
http://www.mediacollege.com/adobe/flash/video/tutorial/example-flv.html
It might also help if you post the exact error message, including the path to the flv file.
'''Note:'''
Depending on how you have Firefox set up, clicking on a FLV File link will either save the FLV file to your computer or Firefox may open it automatically in an external application right after downloading (Firefox may ask you first). Firefox itself can't play FLV files so you need a "helper" application (or a plugin for flv files, if ther is one. You can see if Firefox is already set up to download or open FLV files by going to Firefox Preferences and looking in the Applications list. Find the FLV file type in the list and, if the action is "Open with", it should show the application that can play FLV files (e.g., VLC Media Player or Perian). See [[Managing filetypes]] for more information. -
Hello All,
I'm creating a web based video that shows our clients how to
use our application. Every now and then when i publish the video
the SWF file becomes blurry, however the HTML file is fine. Has
anyone else had / have this issue and know how to fix this?Hi again
Perhaps you have just been lucky to this point? This is just
one main difference between what Flash would create VS what
Captivate creates. Flash typically produces vector based output.
Vector based output consists of instructions that advise the
computer how to draw objects. Because of this, they are crystal
clear at any size or resolution.
Captivate creates bitmapped images. With bitmapped images, if
you shrink or scale them smaller, the picture elements (pixels)
begin overlapping. The computer has to calculate new color values
to use where the overlaps occur. If you make them larger, you
create blank pixels and the computer again has to calculate new
color values to insert into the blank pixels. Either way, the image
fidelity suffers as a result.
There is no magick wand I'm afraid. If you have been getting
by with it for a while, it's possible that you simply haven't
noticed the degradation. Some images scale better than others.

Different versions of animated image in single swf file
I am making a game which has several objects (beds, crates, tables) that can be placed on a grid.
The objects are created in flash and exported as individual .swf files. Each object can be rotated. To do this I create 4 frames in each .swf and draw a different version of the image in each frame. This allows me to 'rotate' an object in actionscript by simply going to the next frame of the swf movieClip.
This simplifies things a lot for me, as it follows logically that an object will have one image file (swf) for all orientations. However, I've hit a problem in that I would like the object to have an animation. Does anyone know if there is a way to do this? or perhaps another technique I could use.I think It's best to explain with an example. Let's say I have a television that I draw in four different frames with different rotations. The first frame has the television facing in a south west direction. The 2nd frame has a south east facing television and so on. This is what I have at the moment. What I'm wanting to do next is add an animation to the television, e.g. display something moving on the screen.

How to create a par file that includes an image and a .swf file
Hi everyone,
I have a requirement to create a <b>.par file which will contain a .swf file and a .gif file</b>.
Can anyone please tell me the steps to do so.
Thanks in advanceThanks Ranjeet for the quick reply.
I have created a portal project and placed the .swf file and the .gif file in the images folder and deployed it to the server. I downloaded the .par file and chked that it contained the .swf and .gif files. But when i run the application it <b>does not show me the .swf file</b> . An icon with a cross mark appears instead. I have flash player installed on my PC .The .gif file when run works fine but not the .swf file.
Can anyone tell me a workaround for this ? -
How do you include images into the swf file?
I have an application that dynamically loads images from a folder to display in the application. Images display fine in the app through the IDE. Since these are not embeded images, compiling the swf leaves them out. How do I get them in? Specifically, how do I do this through the mxmlc ANT task?
This is what I am doing in the code:
new BitmapFileMaterial("components/test/images/testimage.png")
So basically the image needs to be in this location within the created swf file.
Thanks for any help.You have to use the metadata in your source code. You can't alter where the Image will find the data at compile time. It is better to not embed images in most cases, especially if they are big.
If you're asking how to get ANT to copy your image files somewhere, see the ANT doc. I'm pretty sure there's a tag

AS3 coding - movie in swf file doesn't show
I would be so greatful if someone can help with this. I've been sitting for days to find my mistake but my inexperience really holds me back here
In my spelling game I have letters falling out of the sky - players have to click on them. I tested one letter in this swf. It works as I planned but it was only one letter hard coded.
So now I have many levels and I added the letters needed for each level in arrays generated through a loop. They trace correctly, but they do not show up in this swf.
I'm sure I am just missing a bit of code in the function or didn't addChild correctly. I doubble checked that the missing MC is not behind the background by turning the backgroung off, but it is not that.
Where am I going wrong?
Here is the relevant code:
package

activeLevelofTilesArray[i].x = 399;
activeLevelofTilesArray[i].y= 30;
addChild(activeLevelofTilesArray[i]);
function shuffle(a:Array)
var p:int;
var t:*;
var ivar:int;
for (ivar = a.length-1; ivar>=0; ivar--)
p=Math.floor((ivar+1)*Math.random());
t = a[ivar];
a[ivar] = a[p];
a[p] = t;part of your problem could be that I am only seeing that you create one instance of every letter but using this letter multiple times in your Arrays
check this code:
var a:A = new A();
addChild(a);
addChild(a);
addChild(a);
addChild(a);
addChild(a);
addChild(a);
for (var i:int = 0; i<=stage.numChildren-1;i++){
trace("checking");
if (getChildAt(i) is A){
trace("A found");
Flash will throw no error and you might think that you actually put multiple instances of A on stage, but in fact Flash only creates one instance.
similar thing with your code:
[a,a,f,f,f,g,g,h,h,i,i,n,n,n,o,o,o,o,s,s,t,t,t];
addChild(activeLevelofTilesArray[i]);
will not add multiple instances of your objects if you only use the new keyword once for every letter.
Another thing: Why do you need WordArray to be dynamic?
Using dynamic has some caveats: http://flexblog.faratasystems.com/2006/10/02/actionscript-3-dynamic-classes -
Movie format within .swf file? Extract to MPEG-4?
Hi,
I have an algorithm that runs against a series of still
images, such as MPEG-4 movie key frames.
I would like to be able to analyze .swf files with the
algorithm, but I don't know how to extract key frames or images
from the .swf file itself.
Is there documentation anywhere about what the .swf file
stores (I can't find it)?
Are movie resources imported into Flash transcoded and stored
as something different than the original format?
What would your approach be to extract a series of frames
from a swf file (assuming the .swf is a movie requiring no user
interaction/timeline jumps)? Is there something better than loading
and playing the .swf and then capturing bitmaps 12 times a second
(or whatever the frame rate is)?
Thanks in advance, any links or info is appreciated.> Is there something better than loading and playing the
.swf and then capturing
> bitmaps 12 times a second (or whatever the frame rate

Probably not. In fact, this is how the Flash IDE itself
exports to other video formats.
.swf is not a video format, so you don't really have a
snapshot at any point. SWF is an open format so you can definitely
find a lot of information on how some if works, and there are many
decompilers that might give you some insight into how a .swf looks
inside. -
Using swf file for very large static image
i have a large photo that i need to use as a banner image in a website. i have tried optimizing it for the web in fireworks -- to reduce the file size obviously -- but the client isn't happy with the resolution. i haven't had this issue come up before but i see his point (to a degree), as the detail and sharpness of the original is far superior.
i have almost no familiarity with creating with flash, but i remember reading somewhere that swf files do not have the same sizes as jpeg images.
would it be feasible to include the single static image as a swf file to preserve its original resolution? i mean, would that image as a swf file be smaller than the image as a jpeg?
mille grazie.There are two things at play here... image quality (often harmed by compression) and image resolution (# of pixels width by height). What is the real problem?
Whether you render your image as a GIF, JPG, PNG or SWF file, they will all have the same resolution.
Packing an image in SWF should be a last resort as not everyone has Flash installed. For example, iPhone users cannot see SWF. -

Opening SWF Files in the Application window
Hello Everyone,
We have a problem in opening .swf files in our application.
We had quick time movies(.mov) which we used to open and
play inside the application window, using QuickTime Framework APIs
in the code.
Presently we had converted these quicktime movies(.mov) into
.swf files and we are unable to open the same using Quick Time
Framework in MacOSX.
Can you please suggest me as how should I proceed, i.e which
framework should I use in the code to open and play .swf files in
the application window?
It will be better, if you can send me a small sample code to
use in my application for MacOSX.
Awaiting for your kind reply,
Thanking you,
With Best regards,
Anil.Hi Vaibhav,
I need to display the serarch results in the same window.
I have followed the steps mentioned by you in the thread
<i> Search Results in the Same Window..as we have in SDN</i>
Even after making changes to 2 PAR files mentioned in the above thread, on click
of Search button nothing happens.
It will be great if you can send me your modified PAR files, to identify where i am

The old Flash SWF files that don't update in pages created with templates problem
I hate to even ask this question again because I know it's
been posted many times. I've read all the answers I could find but
I'm afraid I still need help. I'm using Dreamweaver CS3 on a Mac.
I've gone in preferences and unchecked "insert using browser-safe
scripts" and "Convert tags" and I've tried to make my paths to the
SWF files relative to the site root but I just can't get it to
work.
There are about three articles on what the Site Root path can
be used for and why it's good or bad. I've read all those and I
guess I'm dense because I just can't figure it out. I select site
root from the "relative to" drop down menu and it makes no
difference whatsoever. I look at the code and it seems OK. This is
what it looks like:
<param name="movie"
value="/public/Images/Regional_Strength/Americas/Americas map.swf"
/>
<param name="quality" value="high" />
<embed
src="/public/Images/Regional_Strength/Americas/Americas map.swf"
quality="high" pluginspage=
There are no ... before the directories and that's what it's
supposed to look like. The files still don't show. Part of me has
to wonder how the heck the html file would know which /image
directory the swf file is in because this particular site is one of
many self-contained site directories that sit in my public folder,
each site has it's own image directory. I thought maybe I'm
supposed to put the SWF files in the "image" directory right in the
first level of the public directory. I moved the files in there
changed the code to:
<param name="movie" value="/public/Images/Americas
map.swf" />
<param name="quality" value="high" />
<embed src="/public/Images/Americas map.swf"
quality="high" pluginspage=
It doesn't work. Like I said, after reading the three or so
articles about the site root on the Adobe Help pages, I still don't
understand. I'd appreciate someone clarifying this for me.
Thanks> <param name="movie" value="/public/Images/Americas
map.swf" />
As a random educated guess, Is your local site folder defined
to the correct
folder? If it isn't, then dw can't make correct site root
relative paths.
Jumping to this from seeing the /public/ folder in the above
path.
Define the local site folder to the folder that directly
contains the site's
homepage index file.
Use the "host directory" line in the remote site info to
correct for any
required subfolder in the ftp setup. If public files need to
be placed in a
subfolder on the remote named public or public_html or htdocs
or www or
similar, put that folder name into the "host directory" line.
Also- to avoid problems adopt a file and folder naming
convention that
doesn't cause you to tear your hair out.
Americas map.swf
There is NO such thing as a blank space in a url. So don't
use blank spaces
in file or folder names.
A conservative naming convention would be to use only
a-->z and 0-->9 and
the _underscore. No blank spaces, no punctuation, no mixed
case.
Right-click on the file or folder in the dw Files Panel and
pick rename.

kamrul hassanHi there,
I was able to fix it by reading someone else's post in the forum (thanks to Webshawty5). This is what I did to fix it:
I created a new folder within the folder where my original files were, called it SWF, and in the publish setting options, I changed the path to point to this new SWF folder.
That seemed to work. I don't know why it doesn't work any other way... but at least, it's publishing them. Then I just move my SWF files to the original folder and it replaces any old SWF files I had there.
I know it's not ideal, but hey, IT WORKS!
Phewww... I feel much better now. Hope this helps you too:)

Click on a image in the swf and go to a specific section of the page
Can any one help me with this.
I do have an SWF file (in the main html page) with 6 time
frames. Each frame has 3 images. On the other hand I do have a
second html page that is nothing but the main title and 18
sections. Every section describes one the SWF’s images.
What I am looking for is whenever I click on one of the
images of the SWF file; I want to go to the specific section that
describes the image I have just clicked on.
Thanks alotI am trying to do this as well. I have a drop down menu that
I have as an embedded SWF in my html page, and I want one of the
buttons to take you to a specific part of the html page. Does
anyone know how to do this? Using the #name like in html does not
appear to work. Can't find the answer anywhere!!!
