Small virtual company setup

I am trying to set up a small virtual company and am not sure how to find topics that discuss how to do it. Sorry if this question has been answered before.
We have three computers shared by two users at the main office. Both users have laptops and travel. I intend to use the third computer as OS X server. We are on cable with dhcp and no fixed ip address.
We have two employees in different offices with an imac on cable without a fixed ip, but sometimes they come to the office and will sign in on one of our laptops or the server machine.
We have a web server running OS X on a fixed ip currently running webstar, but are in the process of converting to OS X server for web, mail, etc.
Our biggest issue is sharing common files. If I set up share points and have each log in to the web server to share the same files, they are slow to open because many are 3 or more mb. I would like to sync local and server files for users to access everywhere.
Am thinking about using the web server for only web, email, etc.
Am also thinking of using the office server (no fixed ip, but could use DYNDNS so offsite machines can login via name instead of ip address) as the place to login, sync user folders, sync share points, etc.
How do I do this? I can figure a lot out if someone would please point me in the right direction.

First of all you are correct about Virtualizatin Windows Server 2012 r2 standart 1 physical on 2 vitual server.About WS2012r2 licencing chek the link;

I suggest that İnstall Active Directory,DNS,DHCP on Server 1 and install file server role,RDP the other server.Thats the correct topolgy i think.

  • PI 2.0 - virtual express "setup" Fail - The passwords do not match:

    Hi all,
    Since my lab is mostly VM, I was going to upgrade my PI 1.3 to 2.0.  Cisco documentation says the inline upgrade is not supported for the small virtual appliance.  Anyhow, I deployed the new 2.0 Express virtual OVA file, allowing to to use all needed resources.
    To get to the point, when I run through the initial setup/bootstrap, I cannot get past the setting of the admin user's password.  Regardless of what I type, I always get the same message "The passwords do not match".  I can simply type the letter 'a' for a password attempt and am told they do not match.  Only when leaving it blank for the password do I see a message showing a 6 character minimum.  I can type abc123 or whatever basic combination, advanced combination, cases, symbols, numbers, etc.  No matter what I do I cannot make the passwords "match"!
    I have blown away the VM and re-deployed, validating checksum on OVA downloaded, PI-VA-2.0.0.0.294-Express.ova.
    I cannot get past this step.  Has anyone else experienced this or have any input?  I'm not finding anything in my searches.

    So I was not correct in what fixed my issue.
    So, when I rebooted the host (which contains my MS 2008 DC as well), I had to access my vSphere from my local windows machine client (VM running on Oracle VBox on my MBAIR) through my VPN to my lab. 
    When typing the password Combos from my local Windows VM, I could get past this step.
    When it was time to type the ftpuser/web user (after I performed the initial setup), I again accessed through the vSphere Client loaded on the 2008 DC Virtual Machine running on the same host as the Prime 2.0 Install - same VLAN/etc.  I access this via RDP, then launch vSphere from that DC.
    From that client I was again getting the Passwords not matching.  Only when launching vSphere Client locally (from my local MB AIR VM) was I able to get the passwords to work.
    Bottom line, it seems when accessing vSphere client through an RDP session, using the console feature of vSphere client provided mixed/undesirable results.  When I access console from a vSphere client (non-RDP) it was working fine.
    Just figured I would let you know what seems to be the trigger.

    you're welcome, but no, acrobat 7 cannot legally be used by non-licensed users for any length of time.
    and while there are non-current adobe trial versions available back to certain versions, for acrobat, version 8 is the oldest trial version available.  so, you can legally download and use (for 30 days) unlicensed acrobat versions, 8, 9, X and the current version XI.
    the acrobat pro 7 that adobe is making available is only legal to use by licensed acrobat 7 owners.  it is not legal to use for 30 days, or any other duration (limited or not), for non-licensed users.

    I'm really excited by XE... I've been developing applications with Oracle at work for a couple of years now and now I can finally get rid of MySQL for the stuff I do in my spare time. Thank you, Oracle! :-)
    I've got a virtual Linux root server which is hosted at a local service provider.
    They call it a "VPS" (virtual private server), and it runs under Virtuozzo, http://www.sw-soft.com/products/virtuozzo/, which is somehow similar to VMWare.
    My idea is to stop using the MySQL database that came preinstalled with the server and install XE instead. Currently, my server is rather limited in terms of available RAM and disk, so I'm considering an upgrade to a bigger type of VPS.
    The options most compatible with my budget are:
    - a virtual Linux server with 256 MB RAM and 500 MHz CPU or
    - a virtual Linux server with 512 MB RAM and 1000 MHz CPU.
    Besides a small Oracle XE database, I'll be running Apache with mod_python and a couple of web apps / scripts I'm writing. I don't expect high performance, I just want to have a small Oracle database to play with and to run some web pages.
    Does anyone have experience with a similarly limited setup? Will the smaller server still allow some breathing room for other software, or is 256 MB the bare minimum required for Oracle itself?
    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    I finally got my server upgrade and now have a virtual machine that's "should" be big enough to run XE (256 MB memory usable, 15 GB disk)
    However, installation wasn't as smooth as I had hoped... I just can't get it to work. Any ideas? I have no idea what to do next.
    Memory stats (these seem to include other machines on the same host):

    I tried adding more swap space by creating an additional swap file, but that's not possible; swapon fails with "Operation not permitted". As far as I know, only the hosting machine can add more swap for me.

  • Newb needs help w small office network setup

    Just started a new job at small start-up company that needs their 6-7 macs and a couple of printers networked. I'm just a designer and I'm trying to help but I'm not familiar with osX networking and I hope someone could point me in the right direction. Currently the owner has DSL on all the computers so there is an ethernet cable in each one to a router or hub i believe.
    Currently when I try to connect via Go menu to Connect to server, there is no list. If I type in the name of one of the other computers and try to connect I get:
    "Connection failed. The server may not exist of it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and try again."
    I don't really know where to start or what questions to ask but I hope having an ethernet cable system already in place is a good thing.

    I'm starting out with 2 computers near me, G4 HOMER
    and G4 MINI. Both are connecting to the net via
    ethernet. Personal File Sharing is ON on both.
    On G4 MINI, I can see G4 HOMER, but when trying to
    connect (Go>Connect to server>G4 HOMER) get
    "ConnectionFailed -Server may not exist or is not
    operational"
    when connecting ot the server try using G4-HOMER.local as the server address.

  • Small Office Network Setup Help

    Hi folks,
    We are renting a small office in a floor which consists of many offices. The way internet is distributed here is, they have a verizon fios router and a couple of unmanaged switch, from which cables are run to offices for internet. One of the port on a switch is dedicated to our office.
    In our office we have 6 computers and a network printer. The computers need to share files with each other and be able to print.
    We want to isolate our office network from others. When we use an unmanaged switch, the version router dhcp assigns ip addresses to computers and we are able to access the internet. The verizon local ip is: 192.168.1.xxx. But we can also see computers that are of other offices, which means they can see us.
    How do we create a separate network? Say we want to use  IP 192.168.10.XXX or 10.0.0.xxx. We just bought a 24 port managed (L2) switch.

    You definitely need a managed switch and a Cisco Small Business (200 or 300 series) can meet your requirements. You can setup separate VLAN to segregate user access level. Are you also looking at expanding your wireless (guest access)?

    I used to be able to get this to work. But, I'm not able to anymore.
    I have two network cards in my PC.
    #1 Is what I use for everyday use and it's configured to use :
    IP: 192.168.0.2
    GW: 192.168.0.1
    DNS : 192.168.0.1 (Router address)
    #2 Is setup to use
    IP: 192.168.0.3
    GW: 192.168.0.1
    DNS : 192.168.0.1 (Router address)
    Then I create a Virtual Switch in Hyper V Virtual Switch Manager and bind it to Network Card #2.
    This creates the Hyper V Virtual Ethernet Adapter that I bind my VM's to.
    But for some reason none of my VM's can get a connection to the internet. There is an exclamation mark over the network icon.
    When I go back and look at the TCP/IP V4 properties of the Virtual Ethernet Adapter, I release that it has no DNS settings.
    But when I put any settings in there it gives me a warning about setting multiple default gateways, and do I want to continue, yes or no?
    What could I be doing wrong?

    Then I create a Virtual Switch in Hyper V Virtual Switch Manager and bind it to Network Card #2.
    This creates the Hyper V Virtual Ethernet Adapter that I bind my VM's to.
    I think you checked the "Allow management operating system ..." , the new Vethernet adapter is a virtual adapter for HOST ( the name same with the Vswitch) .
    So , the "multiple default gateway" will arise when you configure GW for it .

    To do this,use T code EC16 and create a controlling Area.In T/code:OKKP,assign the company code to this controlling Area.Now your comp.code is ready for CO analysis as mentioned in the above para.
    Based on your requirements you can create cost elements,cost centers,order etc and begin the analysis.

    Hello everyone! Pretty soon I will be starting a graphic design, video, and music production company with my brother and friend. All 3 sections will be using apple macs. I was just wondering if any of you can offer suggestions as far as networking hardware and software. Or any how-to-guides. I believe we will be using 7 plus macs and will need room for expansion. Also looking into getting the Xserve. Thanks for all your help!

    I am no networking expert but I will tell you what we use for a 7-mac network.
    Router: Linksys RV0041
    Switch: Linksys Etherfast 3124 24-port switch (EF3124)
    These work fine managing network traffic and have good enough throughput for our use. The router gives the network firewall protection but still allows access from the internet for one Mac we use as a web server and mail server.
    Be sure you design backup into your network. You might consider using one Mac to run full time just to manage backup using Retrospect. Also make sure your rotate your backed-up files off-site periodically (for example to a safe deposit box). This means having at least two good-size external hard drives. Your whole new business will be on this network and you have to have not only an onsite backup for quick restore but also an offsite version in case your place burns down. This may sound extreme --but your new business will be out of business without secure backup.

    I have been reading around about that error to no avail.
    i have extension=openssl.so uncommented in /etc/php/php.ini and round cube says my openssl is fine.
    Any help would be much appreciated!

  • Virtual machine setup mini guide for thoes with XP or 7

    Sorry this guide is very rough.
    Why do we need this? Because application loader works only on mac. Not on PC. The final step to submit the application requires application loader. There is no way around it at the moment.
    So you need to submit your app but you don't have a mac or money for a used mac. You can still submit but You will need the following
    1. Retail DVD of snow leopard (ebay has brand new copies for $45 shipped)
    2. computer with AMD or Intel CPU
    3. about 20gig HD and 2gig ram
    4. fast internet connection
    5. a big cup of coffe
    6. a gigantic bag of patience.
    also needed
    Latest Empire EFI boot discs, combo update 10.5.6 for snow leopard, usb flash drive, multibeast, vmware preconfigered files for snow leopard, xcode
    all available if you just google them.
    1. start download process on vmware workstation 7, combo update 10.5.6, EFI bootdisc for AMD or Intel, multibeast
    2. install vmware, reboot. open up the vmware preconfigered files, make changes to HD and ram size. save it.
    3. mount the EFI bootdisc in VMware, boot VM up, on the EFI boot screen, insert your Retail DVD and change the VM dvd drive to connect to your physical drive
    4. hit F5, it should change the icon to MAC OSX INSTALL. Install Mac. configure it if you want. after install is finished, reattach the EFI bootdisc to boot your system. you willl not be able to boot without the bootdisc.
    5. before it boots, shut it down and make a snapshot. when EFI boots up again, you will see your mac installation, select that and it will boot into mac desktop.
    6. now copy multibeast, combo update, xcode on to your usb flash drive. then connect your flash drive with mac osx, copy all the files onto your desktop
    7. open multibeast, don't install it, run combo update, then complete multibeast installation with Easybeast option
    8. now reboot your VM, if everything works, shut it down and make another snap shot
    9. install xcode! finaly! after xcode finishes installation, you are good to go.
    couple of questions you might ask
    1. how to copy files around xp and mac on vmware. My suggestion, don't invest time into connecting the computers. just use the flash drive.
    2. must we always use the bootdisc to boot. No. You can find out how to resolve that. I just left it alone.
    3. why not just use xcode to develope. Well, vmware is extremlily slow running mac osx.
    4. finaly, vmware workstation 7 is trial version. Yes, you might be able to get the vmware player to run your vm after you finished the setup.
    This guide might get removed by adobe. if it does oh wells. google is your friend.
