  • Creative Smart Recorder Will Not L

I've successfully used USB Sound Blaster Li've! Model SB 0490 since January 2006. Today is different. Inexplicably Smart Recorder will not load. All other Creative programs (such as Surround Mixer, Graphic Equalizer) load without a snicker. I've run the diagnostics and everything checks okay. I used the CD to "repair" the software. Instead of loading I instantly get the cursed stop-everything Microsoft message "...Microsoft has encountered a problem and needs to close. Please tell Microsoft..."? This is XPHome fer ya.
The forum on this product while dated contains nothing I can see about this. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Want to let you all know that I think I solved the problem, or actually, two problems.
Problem - I installed the 64-bit driver, which included the Audio Console. Then, when I installed the applications on the CD that came with the card, I unknowingly installed the Audio Console again, which was a 32-bit version. I took out the card, uninstalled everything, and then reinstalled only the 64-bit Driver/Audio Console which came from Creative's website.
Bottom line - I installed the 32-bit Audio Console on top of the 64-bit Audio Console. Creative should write drivers or give better explanations so regular consumers can avoid this pitfall. I'm a computer tech and figured this out, but most folks wouldn't.
Problem 2 - I can't blame Creative for this one. I turned off my onboard 394 (Firewire) port. I don't use it anyway.
When I did those two things, my issue went away. The X-Fi Fatalty now works perfectly.
Thanks to the two people who responded here. Hope this helps someone else.

  • X-Fi Fatal1ty - Smart Recorder will not work in

I think the 64-bit drivers for this puppy are still buggy. When I try to record my vinyl albums through Smart Record, Wave Studio or even the basic Windows Sound Recorder, I get screeching noise on playback.
Everything appears to record normally, but when you play it back - screeching.
My previous sound card, an Audigy 4, worked perfectly under Windows X64. I'll be returning my X-Fi and getting an Audigy 4 tomorrow.
I really hate to waste time - I wish Creative would have provided better drivers for the X-Fi. I'm very disappointed.
My system has 4 Gig of Ram in Abit Fatalty SLI Mobo, Nforce 4 SLI. I have the very latest bios from Abit, too.

  • Some meeting records will not load

    Hi,
For some reason some of my Adobe Connect recordings that had worked previously no longer load. They get as far as the "Adobe Connect connecting..." stage but get no futher until they eventually time out.
    I have't changed any settings
I have tried accessing the recordings from different browsers, different computers, and different networks.
    Sample link:

Any help would be much appreciated
    Paulie

Eric - thanks for your help.
I have finally fixed the problem.  In network preferences, I set the DNS settings to 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222
I initially only set these for the Airport, but then noticed that these were different to the ones for the ethernet; once I set the same values for the ethernet all sites gained instant access again.

  • IDVD will not load

I loaded ilife 6 and tried to use iDVD to burn a project the other day and the program just will not load. It asks me if I want to create a new project or load one. Either choice gives me the same result, which is a screen that says "Loading Themes" and it never progresses. I did the only 2 things I know how to do to fix something on my Mac …. I trashed the preference files and used disk utility to repair the permission files. I think I am at such a loss because 99.9% of the time I have absolutely no problems. So when something like this happens I am clueless. Any suggestions?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi Peachy:
Sorry, I have been out of town today!
Try burning a disk image-Len Goff ( iDVD Guru) has written the instructions out very well:
Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save as Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • K7N2G will not load windows xp with any type of dvd/cd drive installed?

This is on my old computer, the specs are as follows
    k7n2g
    athlon 2600+
    radeon 9700 pro
    Caviar SE wd800
    1gb samsung ddr333
It does not matter if it is keyed as master or slave, primary or secondary my old k7n2g will not load windows with a cd drive installed. I have tried three different drives and everything that I can think of, changed cables, channels, drives, everything. Windows just hangs. I cannot even get into safe mode. Is this an IRQ problem? The drives keeps trying to eject themselves, no matter what kind I use. This has never happened before, but there was a point before this problem where the vga wouldn't kick on (at the login screen) until I hit eject on the cd drive. This is driving me crazy and I have a girlfriend who just has to play her stupid sims and will not stop bothering me about it. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me!
    Thanks
    Chris
PS here is my NEW workstation (I couldn't be happier to get rid of the old system)
    two Opteron 250 90nm
    2gb 2-3-2-6 Corsair Reg/ECC DDR 400
    Tyan Thunder K8WE
1x BFG 7800GTX OC (one for now)
    Audigy 4 Pro
    Seagate Cheetah U160 10k 73.4 gb
    Atlas V U160 18.3 gb
    Lite on Dual Layer burner

Your Tyan based hardware listing on the first post has no relevance to anything, and might only serve to confuse. Please remove it and put the hardware you are trying to troubleshoot in a signature. Look in your profile>Forum Profile Information and enter that in the Signature box. That way we wont have to scroll to hunt down your hardware specs
So let us get this straight.
This system used to work fine? Yes? Then what prompted you to reload the OS?
You mentioned that didn't happen when you owned it. Are we to assume that at some point you sold or gave parts of this system to someone else? If so, what changed?
A little more history might prove useful in helping us to give you better suggestions.
Look at the PSU and give the Amps for the +3.3, +5v, & +12v lines.
***Edit, from what I see on the net, that is a dual rail PSU and the amps are as follows:
    +3.3V@22A, +5V@21A, +12V1@18A, +12V2@16A
    Is this correct?
Both the 3.3 and +5v seem a little low to me, but I am not entirely convinced that would be your problem. However, the fact that the 12v rails are split, can lead to other problems such as overvoltage protection circuitry getting in the way. Especially if the 16amp 12v rail is overloaded.
This is something to consider. Just because it is supposedly capable of wattage over it's rated power output doesn't mean it can handle what you're throwing at it all at once. If you have a single rail PSU that has at least 18 amps on the 12v rail to test with, we could almost definitively rule out power as the sole problem or a contributing factor.
I have never had a CD rejected, but if you could be more detailed about what you have connected to the board while attempting to load the OS, and then a detailed description of at what point the OS installation fails, and the CD is ejected, that would be helpful as well.
The fact that you've tried several drives, cables, with the same result. And also had a blackscreen event, does point to at least one problem that could point to a power issue. The CD rejection issue is foreign to me since I usually use the same type of PSU in all my builds or ones that I know work with a particular set of hardware, so I can't attribut that to a power issue.
Did you try clearing the CMOS and then initialize the default settings?
Do you have a cheap AGP card to try instead of the 9700?

  • Adobe Audition 3.0 will not load recordings that are 8 hours long?

I have been taking day long recording sessions and wanting to review them from projects and notes. Someday these recordings can be over 8 hours in length and Audition will only load the first 2-3 hours of this.  Does anyone else have this issue?  How did you take care of this issue?  I am just looking for any information.  I have tried to record in both .WAV and .MP3 and it does the same thing.  I would really like to be able to find a way to make this work.   Thanks.

    wesley_shook wrote:
I am actually not using it to record it live.  I am trying to import files off of an Olympus voice recorder and then edit them into sections through Audition.   The complete file will not load up.  It will only show the first 3 hours of a recording and then not see the rest.  But if I open the file in Windows Media Player it will play all 6-8 hours of the recording.  Any ideas of why it will not open the complete file?
This is a slightly longer explanation of what ryclark wrote, and with probably the only solution that will work for you. I say probably, because I haven't ever needed to do this for myself. Others have reported that it works, and that's what I'm relying on here!
So, what format are you opening the file in in Windows Media Player? If you open the MP3 it won't have a problem, because the MP3 file is severely compressed. It's only when you expand it out and try to save (or open, even) it so that it looks like a wav file that you have the problems. Because of the wav file size limit, you can't have a single wav file at anything like a sensible sample rate that will last that long. This isn't an Audition limit, it's imposed by the maximum address size you can write to the file header.
The way around this is to import the file into Multitrack view, because this has the ability to split files and use the extra chunks in the broadcast wav specification to appear to open a much larger file. In reality it isn't though - it's just stitching together the several max length wav files that expanding the MP3 file out created. But you wouldn't be able to save this as a giant wav file, simply because of the addressing limitiations, which remain. What it should do though is let you extract sections from it, and open and subsequently save them in Edit view.

  • Mac mail will not load emails anymore, just keeps "Loading..."

    Hello,
For some reason, mac mail will not load previous emails. It is only one account, when I click on that mailbox, it just keeps "Loading" and never retreives emails. The acounts are fine. It was fine 5 minutes ago, now it is not. This has happened once in the past and it was never resolved. I recreated the account, and lost all the emails.
    Please help!
    Thank you,
    Greg

I just discovered I was a life saver, thanks for the kudos everyone.
Why? It's not your fault. It's because how Apple Mail stores mail, it simply is not robust enough.
A robust program assumes that it may crash at any moment while writing to any of its files, and that there will be undiscovered, rarely occurring bugs that will have similar effect. The damage it does needs to be detected later and then repaired automatically or degraded gracefully so only one mail is lost, and not all of them.
Evidently, Apple fails to do so or didn't do a thorough job.
For mail this is really urgent, because a mail program does many things simultaneously which increases the chance that things go wrong once in a while, and on top email comes from the wild world outside and can contain many types of junk that need to be contained. Mail server delivery data muck, deliberate attempts to hack your mailbox by mail, phishing attempts, html newsletters made by Neanderthalers or marketeers, other buggy mail programs, poorly made phising mails, regular spam, you name it.
So there are a lot of possible 'runaway cars' that may dent another in the parking lot, but this should never cause an entire parking lot building to tilt so all the cars roll to one side of the floor and while still there, can't open the doors anymore.
Computer science made many solutions for this the past 3 decades and it isn't even that hard to do, many file formats have auto-recovery features.
For example: You may have seen a movie on TV or internet, or skype conversation that goes into "weird blocks" a few seconds and then go back to normal. That's damaged data and auto-recovery of the data format kicking in to fix it or at least reduce the damage. Without it, you'd be looking at digital snow for the rest of the show. Apple does the latter to your mail.
In modern databases this is done all the time, because a company can't afford to lose all of its financial data because 1 record went bad or there once was a power outage. For a user, losing his/her mail can be just as catastrophic. If they can, Apple can. Come on.
But that answer won't help ya, unless someone at Apple actually READS these threads and feels intense SHAME that they did not listen to that inner voice saying: hmm it looks spiffy now but we really gotta work on the internals a bit more. No, data is not sexy. Yes, it's boring. But it's necessary. Remember Steve's step father taught his son that the backside of a drawer should also be made neatly. Dad was right folks.
Since this mail I'm going into my 3rd combat with Mocrosoft Exchange which is another factor that, while it should be better than regular mail, also is another rogue runaway car that dents the fragile internal file structure of Apple Mail.
    Yours truly, an Apple fanboy.

  • Music purchased on my Itouch will not load to computer &  ipod wont turn on

I have the 1st generation Itouch and my songs purchased on it will not load to my computer. There's also a big problem, the itouch won't even turn on. All I get is the apple screen. I have tried restarting, restoring, taking it in to best buy, pretty much everything. I don't want all my money spent on music to go down the drain. Do you know if there's any way apple will credit my purchased music on my Itouch?

Where did you pay for the music? They're responsible for handling refunds or financial irregularities. If they ripped you off, contact them.
If you used the iTunes Store, they maintain a record of purchases; you would have received a receipt for same in an email.
You mentioned that the music was purchased on the iTouch. How, exactly? Which platform did you use for the transaction? I doubt Apple will credit you for music unless the purchase was made on the iTunes Store.

  • IPhoto will not load all the way

    Hey All,
I have tried to get iPhoto to load on my MACBook Pro but it willl not open all the way.  iPhoto will load the toolbar but then stop.  I am running OS 10.7 and I have iLife 11.  I have done all of the updrades and it still will not load.  I finally got discusted and completely removed it and reinstalled it.  I also repaired all of my permissions with disk utility.  Please assist if you can, I am at my wits end.

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash#Troubleshooting
Clear the cache and the cookies from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
    *Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
