Smart tool cursor

Hi,
I am trying to implement a custom tool that allows the user to move a couple of boxes as a group (on different layers) across the page.
By setting the cursor provider to kGrabberHandCursorProviderImpl on the ToolBoss, I was able to see the hand cursor when the mouse pointer is moved across the page.
But once the user presses down the mouse button and starts dragging, the cursor changes to a cross-hair. But I actually would like to see a closed hand, behaving just like the Hand Tool.
Questions:
1. I know I need to write my own cursor provider based on CToolCursorProvier if I want the cursor to change when the pointer is moving on and off a moveable box. The SnapCursorProvider is a good starting point, but it doesn't really change the cursor depending on the location of the mouse pointer. Is there a more sophisticated example I can refer to?
2. How can I specify the type of cursor I would like to have once the user starts dragging? How was it done in InDesign for the Hand Tool? Is it something I need to do in the ISprite implementation of the TrackerBoss? Any examples?
I would appreciate it if you have any information.

CursorProvider is only for mouse up.
The SDK comes with CTracker.cpp and CLayoutTracker.cpp
These have routines for modal cursor.

Fix for broken tool cursors in PS Elements 7 with Windows 8.1?

I have Photoshop Elements 7 and have been perfectly happy with it for editing photos/images as a hobby on my older Windows XP and Windows 7 PCs. I have no real need to upgrade to Photoshop Elements 12. I just installed Windows 8.1 on my new Surface Pro and now all the tool cursors in PS Elements 7 are broken. Reinstalling PS Elements 7 did not work. All the tools which use an actual graphic for a cursor appear distorted. What can I do to fix this?

Generally that's caused by the system dpi scaling
(the triple cursor effect)
Go to Control Panel>Appearance and Personalization>Make text and other items larger or smaller
Then try adjusting the size to Smaller
You might have to use Let me choose one scaling level for all my displays and use the Custom sizing options and choose something like 124% or 149%

Appearance of Text Tool cursor

Does anyone know if it is possible to change the colour of the Text Tool cursor in indesign?
I am currently doing alot of work on a grey background - and the cursor becomes invisible. Appreciate i could turn the background layer off and on but this does not help in all cases.
Hope someone knows a fix.

As far as I know this is not something you can change, though I think it ought to be, along with the rest of the color scheme in the interface. You can file a feature request at Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form but don't stop working on this project while you wait for it to happen.

Light grey square behind tool cursor v2

I'm running CS3 on Mac OS 10.4.11. Recently all my retouching tool's cursors have a semi-transparent grey square block behind the circle of the tool making it hard to use.
There was a previous post in which the problem was resolved by changing monitor profile from ColourEyes (calibration software setting) back to original. I've done that, thrown out my preferences, re-installed, but it is still happening. I can't perform a screenshot since when I press command (for command+shift+3/4) my tool cursor disappears.
Any suggestions?

Thanks but I think I fixed it (for now).... I needed to not just "re-install" Photoshop, but "de-install" and then install it again. That seems to have fixed the bug. But if it appears again, I will try this. Have you heard this has worked before for this particular problem?

Smart tool problems in PSE7

not sure why, but after having used the new Smart Tools for a while, I now get a message every time I try to use them (in Full Edit of course)
"Could not use the Smart Brush tool because of a program error"
I did hope to to a re-install, but only removal, then reinstall is allowed with PSE7, and I'm reluctant to do that and mess up things like my Noiseware and OnOne plugins, and have to reinstall them again.
Has anyone else dealt with this?

First thing to try is resetting preferences: press and hold
ctrl-alt-shift while you start the editor - keep holding until you get a
dialog that asks if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

How can I change the tool cursor from a gun sight to a circle?

Usually the tool cursor is a circle the size the tool is set to, that is, it will be 60 pixels in diameter when the tool size is set to 60 pixels. Sometimes, the tool cursor changes to a gun sight-like icon. I have no idea what I'm doing to cause that, but I'd like to know in order to 1) stop doing it, and 2) maintain my sanity. One problem is that I don't even know what to call it in order to research it. I'd be grateful for any help.

Right you are, R_Kelly. Thanks, that did the trick. Ukgaurav also pointed out some choices in the Displays and Cursors Preferences with which I fine-tuned the tool cursor appearance.

Brush Tool Cursor (Quick Question)

Normally, the shape of the selected brush appears as the cursor. Occasionally, brush tool cursor is only a crosshair that doesn't reflect the current brush. I'm assuming the answer is a simple shortcut key. How does one force the cursor to be the brush shape?

PS path/tool cursors not refreshing

Hi everyone
I'm using PS version 12.1x32 (CS 5.1 Extended) and recently i've been getting some erratic behaviour when creating clipping paths/using other tools.
For some reason, as I'm creating a clipping path, the results of my work aren't showing up unless I either change my view setting or changing my zoom level (which leads me to think it's a refresh problem). Even when I'm done with the clipping path and I move it around, it still doesn't update, only showing the last position (see screen grab below). Has anyone come across this behaviour before and is there a solution? Also, when using other tools, such as rectangular marquee (but not limited to it), my cursor dissappears whenever i'm using the tool. It's a bit annoying to be honest...

It seems that OpenGL being enabled had something to do with it. It's working now.

See if it happens in all pdfs are just some. It could be that the file is protected from changes.

CS4: Clone tool cursor throws shadow under cursor

Well, it's not really a shadow. It appears to be a sample of where I OPTION-CLICK. All good and fine and I guess it must be thought of as an improvement, but for me it makes the clone tool unworkable because the 'shadow' shadows my clone cursor everywhere, blocking out what's underneath so I can't see what I want to select and where I want to clone to.
Q: How do I turn off the shadow?

Tool settings are always saved after restart, and this one is no exception.
Yes its a useful feature for certain types of work, but it probably shouldn't be the default. There should also be a check box in the Options Bar for this, and maybe a keyboard shortcut toggle also. On high res files it slows things down quite a lot.

Tool cursor does not change or does not show up

If you change tools in Photoshop but the cursor does not change (or disappears entirely), this indicates a bug in your video card driver. To fix it, you need to update your video card driver.
Sometimes you can fix it temporarily by turning down the hardware or driver acceleration in the properties panel for the video card.

Changing the pen tool cursor from a cross back to normal

Dear Illustrator users,
I have managed to change the Pen cursor to a cross when I select it and begin to work. Please could someone tell me how you change the cursor/cross back to looking like a Pen.

The pen tool will become a pen tool with a plus sign if you hover it over a path at a point where there is no anchor point.
If you hover it over an anchor point it becomes a pen tool with a minus sign.
If for some reason the settigs hav become corrut I guess it might cause this.
Quit Illustrator and while launching Illustrator hold the command>Option>Shift Keys all at the same time to reset the prefrences.
On the PC that would be Control>Alt>Shift. You start the Launch and immediately hold these keys down do not wait or it doesn't work.
When you either get a dialog asking if you want to reset you can let go or just wait until it fully launch.
See if that helps.

Pen tool cursor is different from the anchor point

Hi, I'm using flash cc 2014, I'm having this issue, which is when I use pen tool to draw something, the anchor is different from the pen cursor. I need help !

as suggested but not quite defined what you want to do is after you have drawn a curve path with the pen tool you now want to add a straight segment, so you press down the option tool drag the end of the leading anchor handle while still holding down the option key and drag the handle into the anchor point. Nothing else will move but the anchor point handle.
Once the handle is withdrawn into the anchor point you can now position the pen tool, first of course releasing the option key, and clicking and the segment will be a straight path unless of course you drag as you click.
I agree it would be nice to have a keyboard toggle to allow for a straight segment.
Perhaps there is but I do not know of it. It is a good complaint. I believe there are ways of accomplishing this in other applications.
There is another way as well. Just hold the command key to get a select tool and click anywhere to deselect the path. Then click where you want the straight segment to end and the click the pen tool on the last anchor point of the segment you previously created.

Normal cursor interferes with tool cursor

My normal arrow-shaped cursor does not disappear when I use tool brushes. How do I get rid of the cursor?

1. I am unable to reproduce the behavior you describe. If you move the mouse pointer even slightly after the Application Switcher appears above it, it will jump to the icon immediately below the pointer, but it does not affect the use of Tab in the Switcher.
2. Are you using a third-party mouse? If so, and you are using a third-party mouse and installed manufacturer-provided software in order to customize its functions, check the manufacturer's Web site for updates.
3. An errant Startup or Login Item — such as some third-party interface modification you may have installed — maybe the cause. My "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ can help you pin that down if such an item is causing the problem.

CS4 Photoshop & 10.6 - Tool cursor disappears

I did a fresh install of Snow Leopard and CS4. When using a tool such as Clone Stamp, Brush or whatever, the cursor disappears from the screen making it impossible to see what I'm doing. It doesn't matter what cursor setting I use in Preferences, it disappears when I click the mouse.

Thanks for the suggestion - you nailed it!
Turns out if Safari is opened to my home page (for me it's Yahoo News, http://news.yahoo.com/) the problem occurs. Other web pages no problem. It's very repeatable. Go to another page, no problem. Come back to Yahoo news, the problem comes back.
Thanks a bunch! Interesting that web page (and probably many others) cause the same problem for both PS and LR.
