SmartMotor Interfacing w/ LabVIEW

Hi,
I am working on a project that is using an Animatics SmartMotor 1720 series.  I would like to control my SmartMotor via LabVIEW but don't know how to interface the two.  Also, I would like to be able to send information acquired in LabVIEW to my SmartMotor program to dynamically change how it runs.
More specifically, I have one SmartMotor connected to a calibrated syringe pump that is being used to simulate the heart beating.  This is connected to a benchtop simulation of the cardiovascular circulation where the fluid is pumped through the circuit.  Pressure sensors are incorporated into the circuit that acquire continuous data.  I need use the peak pressure in the circuit to time the movement of another SmartMotor controlling another pump.
If this is posted in the wrong section please let me know.  I understand if this question is more suitable for another board.  I've read in multiple SmartMotor descriptions about the capability of it to be controlled with LabVIEW but have had zero luck finding any useful instructions on the web.
Thank You,
bsteinma

One Customer has successfully imported the SMIEngine to LabView as An Active-X tool rendering these files unnecessary.

The above is quoted from http://www.summerfiles.com/Eng/LabView/Labview.html.  I believe the information on this site was compiled by an engineer employed with Animatics (based on a conversation with an Animatics rep).  Is this what you were referring to as the activeX interface.  I would like to try what they say "one customer" has done but don't know how to do this.  The files that they are mentioning above are National Instruments LabVIEW drivers for SmartMotors.  I don't know how to use these files.  I'm also not sure if this will work for the motor I currently have.  I've read threads about success with a 2315 SmartMotor but nothing about any of their other series of SmartMotors.  Please let me know if clarification is needed as I tend to be unclear sometimes.
My supervisor knows someone who has communicated with a SmartMotor in the way we'd like but my supervisor is a physician and tends to be busy in the clinic so I'm trying to figure out some things in the meantime until he contacts his colleague.

  • How can I have an english interface to labview if the package is in german

    Hi ,
I'm a student that makes a project in Germany using labview ... the problem is that my german is not that good , and the labview is in german so here is my question :
how can I have an  english interface to labview if the package is in german (labview 7 )
    Any help would be apprecieted.

The only way to really have everything in English is to install an English version of LabVIEW.  You may want to talk to your local NI sales representative about the possibility of getting a different version.

  • How to create a login interface in labview PDA module?

How to create a login interface in labview PDA module? So that it checks with a list of usernames and passwords and allow to go to another VI?

    Anu,
I've attached a really short example that does something like what you're talking about.  It just compares the user's username and password a pre-determined username and password and then "logs the user in" based on that comparison.  Like Greycat said, you probably want to store this username and password info in some sort of file on the PDA that's in an encrypted format for both security and flexibility of your application.
    I hope this helps,

  • Interface with LabView

I am a very new to LabView--
We are developing a board to interface with LabView devices- (ideally, the board would have a GPIB connector).  We would like to use LabView to simulate various conditions on the Interface board by controlling switching (board MOSFETs) and then use a GPIB controlled multimeter to read voltages coming out of the Interface Board).
Since the Interface Board we are working on does not have an "address", is it possible to use LabView to communicate with it (send output signals to the board and read signals from it)?  What is often done to have LabView controlled devices communicate with external circuitry ?
    Thanks,
    Alex

What would be an advantage of an interface controller (such as 4823) over a DAQ card (such as PCI-6013)?  If we only need about 6-8 inputs (Digital I/O) and maybe about 6 Analog outputs, wouldnt the 6013 be sufficient to interface with our PCBA?
In your original post, you indicated that a GPIB interface would be ideal. ICS Electronics makes various models of controllers that provide a GPIB SCPI command interface to digital and or analog I/O. This controller can be placed inside the instrument rather than inside a PC and would use GPIB to connect (as you requested).
I have personal experience with the 4823, which can be used to control/monitor TTL devices on a byte-wise basis. Since you have digital and analog requirements, you could look at the ICS 4807 DAQ board. It may not have enough analog outputs though...
The only reason I originally responded was your GPIB requirement.

  • Warner/superior electric's SS2000PCi motion controller interfacing with LabVIEW 6i

    Sir,
In our application, we are controlling the movement of X-Y arm on the X-Y table. For this we are using superior electric products:
    (a) Slo-Syn SS2000PCi Programmable Step Motor Controller
    (b) MD808 Motor Drive
We are using two such controllers and motor drives to drive two 2 Amps Sanyo Denki Stepper motors: one each along X-axis and Y-axis. Along with the arm movement a data acquisition also has to be carried out. So, the motion control and Data Acquisition has to be synchronized by means of software. The problem now is to program the controller. Though MCPI Version 4.41 is there, we want to program the controller in LabVIEW 6i so that we can synch
ronize both motion control and Data Acquisition. There is no driver which is compatible to LabVIEW 6i.
Is there any 32-bit DLLs for this controller? If any one has these dll's please let me know. My E-mail ID: [email protected]
So that i can call these DLLs in LabVIEW 6i and program it.Or else send me at least the detailed low level command sets of the controller in pdf format so that i can develop our own drivers.

    Nagendra

    Nagendra,
Unfortunately, I was unable to find any helpful resources for you based on a cursory web search. I recommend that you contact the manufacturer of the hardware and ask them if they have a driver (DLL) that you can use to interface with LabVIEW.
Good luck with your application, and have a good day.

  • Problems in Operator Interface for LabVIEW

    Hi Ray,
I am using LabVIEW 7.0 and TestStand 2.0 version. I am using the default operator interface for labVIEW provided in the TestStand and i am using custom step types in my sequence file.
This sequence calls a VI, which transmits strings that i specify from the serial port to the NI-7831 RIO Fpga Card for differnt baud rates. The same sequence is working fine when called from Sequence Editor but it is not working when it is called from Operator Interface for LAbVIEW. It justs either fails the test or skips them. Please tell me if there is any solution for it. I have attached the sequence file and the vi that i am calling from my sequence file.

    Hi,
You forgot to attach your sequencefile and VI, but never mind.
I think the problem maybe that because you are using the default Operator Interface.
If it still the one in the NI folder, then you will have to re build the testexec.exe application using your LabVIEW 7.0 Application Builder. The default exe file has been built using LabVIEW 5.1.1
Before you start, copy the LV folder from OperatorInterfaces\NI\ to OperatorInterfaces\User.
Load the testexec.bld file in your Application Builder and rebuild testexec.exe.
Launch your new testexec.exe from the User\lV folder and retry your test sequencefile.
Hopefully that should cure your problem.

Your first task should be to just be able to send commands to the instrument.  Do as Dennis suggested and download the drivers for the instrument and get familiar with them.  Build up small VIs that do little tasks with those drivers so you can get used to them.  Then worry about your main interface.

  • Communication through RS232c serial interface using labview

i am trying to communicate with a device through RS232c serial interface using labview 6.1....i have tried to run the example "Serial communication.vi" provided in 6.1 and it doesnt work....do i need any special hardware or do i need to configure my hardware to communicate through RS232c...
    thanks in advance
    shri

Seems like I placed a small (maybe 30ms) delay at the end of the serialcommunications.vi structure.. for some reason my PC didn't like running as fast as it tried to go. Also look into the actual serial communication.vi and open the vi's inside it - check that the port setting (0 or 1) are ok, the baud rate (probably 9600) are ok. I'm running with only three wires in my application, TX, RX and Common. The PC may need to be rebooted to enable the com port - or use device manager and see if it says the com ports 0 and 1 are both OK..
Try buildinga loopback plug with TX to RX, RX to TX, and Common to Common and see if hyperterminal (or other serial communications program works - there is also Loopback.VI in the NI library somewhere that can be used. Good Luck!! Dave

I have a roboteq hdc 2450 and want connect to labview but have no idea how to do so. I have the drivers that came with it will it work to interface with labview?

You can create your control code in LabVIEW and then use a Call Library Function Node to communicate with your roboteq DLL.  The first thing to do though, is check to see if Roboteq offers LabVIEW drivers.

  • How can I use USB interface in Labview?

    Hi.
Does labview allow to USB interface?
I have been seen allowing GPIB and RS232.
I'm beginer at Labview and wanna use USB interface for my target system and pc.
I wanna know how to labview interfaces from target system to pc.
And if Labview doesn't provide USB interface module, how can I use USB?
Is using a USB at Labview hard to beginer?
    Plz, answer to my quetion.
sorry, my English is very poor.
    thx for reading my article.

You can access devices connected to the USB port, but not in the same way as you would a GPIB or RS232 device. There are no USB drivers like there is VISA for GPIB or serial. Rather devices that plug into the USB appear to the systen as some sort of standard resource like a printer, disk drive or IO board. LabVIEW then interacts with these devices as it would any other device of the same type.Look at it this way, if you have a USB daq device you will access it through MAX the same as if it were a plugin card. • CIN (Code interface node) LabVIEW runtime engine dependency

    Hello:
Am I correct that the old style CIN (code interface node) is not dependent on what version of LabVIEW runtime engine is being used?
However if I create a dll  from say LabVIEW 8.2 I must then alway have LabVIEW runtime 8.2 installed on any newer machine with newer version of LabVIEW?
    Thank You!

    GE Osmonics wrote:
    Hello:
What I have are old CIN (no source) that work in LabVIEW7.1 but will not work in LabVIEW 2010 (link error, object code not loaded).
What I thought I could do is generate dll from the vi's that contain the CIN using LabVIEW 7.1 with application builder.
I could use the Call Library Function from LabVIEW 2010 to load the 7.1 generated dll  to effectively do what the old CIN accomplished
provided I installed the LabVIEW 7.1 runtime engine on my LabVIEW 2010 machine
    Thanks for the input
If the CIN resource doesn't load you most likely changed the LabVIEW platform. LabVIEW for Windows 32 Bit and LabVIEW for Windows 64 Bit are different platforms. Just as LabVIEW for Windows and LabVIEW for Macintosh or Linux. A 32 Bit DLL, which a CIN is internally can't be executed in a 64 Bit environment at all.
Your solution fails for more than one reason here. LabVIEW will try to load and link a LabVIEW DLL into its actual runtime environment to avoid interprocess communication latency which would be inavoidable if the DLL is started in a seperate runtime engine, which is in fact a new process. If your issue is 32 bit to 64 Bit you won't be able to link the 7.1 32 Bit DLL into your LabVIEW 64 Bit application through the Call Library Node at all.

  • Starting and stopping timer using external inputs interfaced with labview

    hello,
I have trouble finding how to start and stop the timer using external voltage or current pulse. we are interfacing a circuit to labview. so for that we need to count the time it takes between the two external voltages. We have to keep on comparing the voltages to some reference voltage. And when the external voltage crosses the reference voltage we have to start the timer and again we have to stop the timer using tha same logic. We need it for time calculation between the triggers.
    hope you can help.
