Smartview Excel 2003 / 2010

Hi,
we have some users who have both excel 2003 and excel 2010 installed on the same p.c. with Smartview.
Initial install of Smartview works okay, but subsequently I find that Smartview add-in becomes disabled.
Re-enabling fixes the problem for 2010, but not for 2003 - and even full re-install thereafter does not fix it for me.
Anyone encounted this / have a fix?
thanks for any pointers,
Robert.

Hi Jasmine,
I don't think your fix applies to my version of excel.
i.e. On Excel *2003*
I can go to Tools\Add-Ins
Under there I see => Oracle Hyperion Smartview for Office, Fusion Edition
I can un-tick this option, but there is no 'remove' beyond that.
If I do so I can then browse, but excel expects either .xla or .xll at this point.
Correct me if I am misunderstanding!
regards and thank you,
Robert.

  • Can not open Excel 2003 embedded worksheet in Office 2010

I have seen many similar issues to this but I think I have some unique factors that are making my issue a bit tougher to resolve. I have a user who has a word doc which he opens in Word 2010. This doc has several embedded excel sheets. When he tries to click
one of these embedded excel sheets to edit he gets an error:  "the program used to create this object is excel the program is not installed on your computer". It will give an option to repair which we have tried but it makes no difference.
Some things to note that I think makes this case more unique than others I have googled.
This seems to be the case only with embedded excel 2003 spreedsheets. He can open newer excel 2010 spreedsheets that more more recently added to the file.
He previously had Office 2013 which we had to uninstall, and put Office 2010 on. This was done because of a piece of software this company uses that was not compatible with office 2013. (Personally I think this may be where the problem is as there seem to
be remnants of Office 15 in the registry.)
I have tried the standard fixes of Disabling the Com add-ins, running office repair, and trying to Convert the embedded spreedsheet to an Excel Binary. The convert failed and gave me a generic error about possibly not being allowed to save to the location
or needing more memory or space but none of these are the case.
I have not yet tried to uninstall office 2010 and reinstall and I am hoping that I won't have to. This issue just seems odd to me. Other users can edit these embedded spreedsheets fine which is why I think it has something to do with the fact that he downgraded
    from 2013 to 2010.
Anyone of thoughts, ideas, suggestions? Thanks.

    Hi,
I noticed that use newer excel 2010
spreadsheets that more more recently added to the file. Did you try to embed the Excel 2010 file to Word 2010 test? If it works fine, I suppose that it was a compatibility issue.
Because Excel 2010 had change the file format with Excel 2003.
I recommend you try to install Office 2010 sp2 and compatibility pack.

And there is a similar issue, we also could install the hotfix to test.

    Hi,
thanks for your answers. From all I could find out from Oracle support, I'll have to wait until 11.1.2.1 is GA and then try again :-(
Or will there be a patch for 11.1.2.0 as well?

  • Opening an Excel 2003 file in Office 2010 Universal Data Connection error when opening the file from a domain.

    Hi.
One of my users are having  problem with old accounting files in Excel 2003 when opening Excel 2010.
The user experience that linked information is not being updated properly.
And suspects that it something do with Universal Data Connection .
How can an Excel 2003 spread sheet be converted to Excel 2010 spread sheet and still contain active links?
When the user is opening and converting the file as mention in your suggestion, on the common share on a common domain, the links "breaks".
we are not using SharePoint on our domain.
But when doing it on a local machine, the links does not "breaks".
Looking forward to get solved to this problem.
    Thank you in advance.

it sounds link, the links changed from relative paths to absolute path. You need to use absolute path in original file.

  • BexAnalyser : compatibilty of WB created in Excel 2010 with Excel 2003

    Hi all,
I'm trying to define the compatibilty of worbook created with BexAnalyser (Excel)  2003 with BexAnalyser 2010.
When a workbook is created in 2003 version and saved with 2010 version and opened with BexAnalyser 2003, I'm loosing the textelement (available by the Information bouton).
For displaying this information, I have to turn into creation mode and displaying the information by quoting the radio bouton in properties panel.
In an other case, when i'm creating a worbook with Bexanalyser 2010, i cannot open it with 2003.
Do you know if Worbooks that are created in BexAnalyser 2010 have a chance to be compatible (by two ways) with BexAnalyser 2003.
For information, we installed FEP 200 and FEP 201 and the SAPGUI is 720.
    Thank you in advance.
    Cedric

    As an update...
I verified the Control ID in Outlook 2003 to be 5621.
I have also downloaded a handy tool which is a bit more friendly for figuring out all the MS Office 2010 control ID's: http://www.add-in-express.com/downloads/mapi-store-events.php
However, the tool confirms that the ID for OOF in Outlook 2010 is STILL 5621.
Just for grins, I disabled the MailBox Cleanup utility on the same page by identifying it's control ID (7092), grey's out no problem. But I can't get the OOF button to go grey.

  • Best practice for Smartview when upgrading from Excel 2003 to Excel 2007?

Does anyone know the best pratice for Smartview when upgrading from Excel 2003 to Excel 2007?
Current users have Microsoft Excel 2003 with Smartview 9.3.1.2.1.003.
Computers are being upgraded to Microsoft Excel 2007.
What is the best pratice for Smartview in this situation?
    1. Do nothing with Smartview and just install Excel 2007.
    2. Install Excel 2007 and then uninstall and reinstall Smartview
    3. Uninstall Smartview, Install Excel 2007, and then install Smartview
    4. Somthing else??
    Thanks!

We went with option 1 and it worked out fine. Be aware that SV processes noticeably slower in Excel 2007 than 2003. Many users were/are unhappy with the switch. We haven't tested SV v11 yet, so I'm not sure if it has improved performance with Excel 2007 or not (hopefully it does).

  • Downloading excel in 2010 instead of 2003 through webdynpro java application

    Hi Experts,
We have developed a webdynpro java application where we are downloading an excel file through linktourl UI element. we are not using any external jars to create that excel and we used simple java.io API. When we run the application and trying to download the excel, by default it is asking us to save in 2003 instead of 2010. I came to know that it depends on the version of MS office available / installed in SAP portal server. Can somebody provide SAP official links to support this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    Pradeep

    Hi Jun,
Thanks for your reply. We know by using Apache POI external jars we can achieve the functionality. But we don't want to do major changes to the existing application to just download the excel in 2010 format instead of 2003.
Is there any other way to do without using the external jars. I mean simple coding / configuration or any work around.

  • Excel Services 2010 Error - "The workbook cannot be opened."

I enabled Excel Services and added a Excel Web Access viewer to my page. It's just a simple spreadsheet (which incidentally works fine on my standalone development server) that displays the error "The workbook cannot be opened." when the page loads. The trusted
file locations are set up appropriately. We are using Kerberos authentication.
My event viewer showed this "Critical" event (ID: 3760):
SQL Database 'Prod_WSS_Content' on SQL Server instance 'servername' not found. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.
Cannot open database "Prod_WSS_Content" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'domain\user'.
In other words, the service account that ECS was running under did not have permission to the content database. So I granted the user read permission on the database. Then I got the same error and this "Error" level event in the event viewer (ID: 5617):
There is a compatibility range mismatch between the Web server and database "Prod_WSS_Content", and connections to the data have been blocked to due to this incompatibility. This can happen when a content database has not been upgraded to be within the compatibility
range of the Web server, or if the database has been upgraded to a higher level than the web server. The Web server and the database must be upgraded to the same version and build level to return to compatibility range.
This error is typically associated with 2007 to 2010 upgrades apparently, but I did a fresh 2010 installation on a pristine machine. I found a very helpful post on the subject on the MSDN blogs:http://blogs.msdn.com/b/jjameson/archive/2010/05/04/the-workbook-cannot-be-opened-error-with-sharepoint-server-2010-and-tfs-2010.aspx
I gave the ECS service account db_owner permission on the content database. I'm still getting the error "The workbook cannot be opened." I ran the PowerShell commands listed at the bottom of the post, and no change.
What's interesting now, is that nothing at all is showing up in the event
viewer. I wonder if it is because of the statement in the event log that says "connections to the data have been blocked due to this incompatibility." Is there something on the SharePoint server blocking the connection to SQL Server that needs to be reset?

    Hi Rob Wilson,
I suggest you to check the following things at first:
    1.
    What’s the version of the excel file? Excel 2003, Excel 2007 or Excel 2010? Excel Service doesn’t support Excel 2003 and easier version;
    2.
Are there some features the Excel Service do not support?

    3.
If the excel is connected to SQL, did you save the connect file to the Data Connection Library?

  • Report Manager - Template Conversion Problems Excel 2003/2007

    Hello,
We are having an issue in which templates created using excel 2003 are showing incorrectly formatted outputs in excel 2007. We have performed testing by creating new templates in Excel 2007 and most formatting is correct as long as we only make minimal changes to the initial template. Once the template is changed to a further extent the formatting is correct but no actual output shows, just the token defaults. Patches have been applied for both the issue of incorrect formatting caused by Excel's smartcutandpaste and also the problem with the token defaults showing instead of actual Oracle data. We would prefer not to have to recreate the templates as this would be a lengthy process. To me it seems as something was modified that affected the existing templates (other than the Generic FSG Template, which works fine), but does not affect newly created templates. Other methods of viewing the data work fine (pdf and html).
    Any ideas?

  • Unable to see the Hyperion tab in Excel 2003

    Hi Hyperion gurus,
Can anybody shed light on an issue that a user encountered with Smartview? This user installed Smartview and had been using it without any problems. We just started parallel testing and he needed to use Smartview as part of the process. He is now unable to see the add-in in Excel 2003. He has no Hyperion tab and we cannot find any evidence that it has been installed. We reinstalled Smartview but even after reinstalling Smartview he is still unable to see the Hyperion tab in Excel. What is puzzling is that he does have the Hyperion tab in Word and is able to connect.
Would appreciate any help provided? Thanks.

I have seen the same exact problem at my company regarding the missing Hyperion tab in Excel (but present in MicroSoft Word). If you go into Excel, then select 'Help', then About MicroSoft Excel, then you'll see 'Disabled Items'. Scan the list for HSAddin.Dll. If this is on the list, highlight it, then select the 'Enable' button. (this is my first suggestion). I've also had to do the following in some isolated cases:
You should also try re-registering the following 3 SmartView DLL files. To do this, simply locate where these 3 files are stored on your local machine (the file names are):
    HSAddin.dll
    HSSpread.dll
    HyperionSmarttag.dll
Usually these are stored within the following path: C:\Hyperion\Smartview\bin
    To Register the files:
Open DOS (start->run->cmd) and change your path to C:\Hyperion\SmartView\bin
Type in the following, hitting enter key after each line:
    regsvr32 hsaddin.dll
    regsvr32 hsspread.dll
    regsvr32 hyperionsmarttag.dll
You should receive a 'success message' for each file you register. Reboot your machine following this, and go back to Excel. Your menu should now be in place.
    Thanks,

  • Anyone seen this problem with Excel 2003?

We're developing a Microsoft Excel-based app. The help system uses HTML Help (.chm) format, and works just fine with Excel 2007 and 2010. However, since a lot of potential users out there are still using older versions, we've been asked to adapt the app for Excel 2002 and 2003.
The help system works, more or less, with Excel 2002, but when we try it with Excel 2003 the tri-pane is missing. The default topic appears but the left-hand pane containing the navigation system (TOC, Index and Search) is missing. Consequently, users can't move away from the default topic. Has anyone come across this problem before, and do you know how to fix it?

I cannot help you with this one other than to say I haven't seen any other such reports. That may suggest it is worth checking for some small difference you haven't identified yet.
Of course it could also mean there aren't many people with that workflow.
