Smashed rear glass

Hello all,
I received my iPhone 4 direct from Apple on Thursday and immediately purchased a phone guard.. which as yet has not arrived. I'd notice the phone is super slippery with the glass so have been extra careful with it. I dropped it today... I've had the iPhone 3GS since launch and before that I had the iPhone 1st gen, neither were ever dropped... well suffice to say, the back panel of my new iPhone 4 shattered.
I've read Apples warranty and it says it will not cover accidents? Does anyone know what I can do about getting my phone repaired? Cost etc?
good thing I have not yet put my 3GS up for sale yet because this looks like a problem which may not be sorted for some time.

Take it to an apple store and shout a lot and see what happens
What an earth did you drop it on and from how high?!
Well, I was watching England Germany when the Germans banged a fourth in. I got fed up so went outside for a smoke. I sat on a window sill on our balcony which is about 2.5 foot off the floor. I took my phone out of my pocket to use when it said 'TEMPERATURE - iphone needs to cool down before you can use it', which I thought was a bit poo as I'd only just put it in my pocket as it was on the table inside.
I put it on the ledge, in the shade beside me.. continued smoking when it slipped, without me touching it. it cracked, I heard it.. I left it on the ground for a second or two while I thought bad things... picked it up and yep.. it had shattered... mainly around the corner by the camera.

The rear glass of my iPhone 4 has smashed. How can I get this fixed? Heard a rumour I could take it to an apple store and they would sell me a new one for £100?! Not sure I believe that though!!!!!

The price for a replacement iP4 is £119 exchange
You get a refurbished unit that many say is better than new due to the testing it receives and all new externals
You can make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an  Apple Retail store and they will replace over the counter
You can mail in but personally think face to face is better ,no danger of it going astray

  • Rear Glass Panel Cracks - Apple Store Appointment

Almost made it a full year without a hardware issue or damage, but last week my phone slipped out of my pocket and kissed the parking lot. The rear glass is cracked and starting to splinter out more and more. I realize there are places to order 10 dollar replacements but I'm trying to keep it official in terms of repair. I've heard mixed messages that the Apple Store does and doesn't offer replacement rear glass repair.
Can anybody offer me some direction with this? Should I make an appointment at the Apple Store to have it looked at? Is there a pricing model somebody has access to?

I believe it is 19.95.  Not sure if all stores do this.
Call the Apple Store and ask.
    Yes, make an appointment.

  • Rear glass broken of iPhoneS

I purchased iPhone 4s recently from India and it is under warranty. My iPhone 4s rear glass is broken but the phone is working perfectly fine. So how much I need to pay to get it repaired/replaced in India?

Not sure what the prices are in India, but in the US the replacement cost for the rear panel is $29.  Contact your authorized service provider in India for your local prices.

  • Rear glass panel

My Iphone 4's rear glass panel shattered . As I know that this would not be covered by my warranty , I approached a service centre in chennai for replacing it . They insisted not to hand over the phone to them and that they should confirm the availability and price of it in a week (He says he needs to confirm this part by part replacement something) . I waited and they did not respond inspite of innumerable calls from me . So , I thought if any one can let me know if there is any way I can do it my self as I have checked a few sites that this can be done by ourselves . But then , are there any hidden intricacies lurking around if I attempt to do that ?

Note that if you attempt repair yourself or have anyone other than an authorized Apple iPhone service center do the repair, you will void all further support from Apple.

  • Z3 rear glass

    Hi all,
Unfortunately the glass on the rear of my phone cracked after taking it out of my pocket. Does anyone know of any websites that sell this? Also anyone know of any guides to replace the glass? Or would it just be easier/cheaper sending it back to Sony for repairs?
    Cheers

As the Z3 is a new device - Replacement rear glass hasn't yet reached the markey for DIY repairs - You would at the moment be best seeking help on this matter from Xperia care http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/
However as a guide see the Z1 rear glass replacement video here

  • Z3 rear glass cracked...again!

I dropped my orange 1 week old Z3 compact and had a replacement sent out by the insurance company.
Within 12 hours 2 cracks had appeared on the rear and a phone call to the insurance company had them send out another phone as a replacment...
It's been 3 days and a crack has now appeared on the rear of this one!
That's 2 phones within 36 hours of each other, both brand new and in a flip case ( as i dropped the first, i wasn;t taking chances )
    What's going on Sony??
This is my first phone from you guys ( had HTC before ) and the phone itself is awesome if it wasn't for the cracking glass...
I've opened a ticket with Xperia Care, now awaiting a reply...
Has everyone got their glass replaced under warranty?

    Hi,
I have the same situation - except that my phone has only cracked once per each screens. Now it is under check here in Finland. I also contacted the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority to get my case solved in a proper manner. But it seems that I'm all alone with my case.
My story is that I bought my Sony Xperia Z3 Compact in the beginning of October 2014. Before one week had passed the rear cover was cracked by itself and without any misusage. I contacted the shop where I bought my phone, and they said that I need to pay the repair by my self. I desided to continue using the phone, since it was only the rear screen. I fixed it with tape and used the phone normally - actually a bit more carefully, since the waterproof was lost.
And then in the beginning of December the front screen cracked while the phone was in my work desk while I was working with my computer. I heard a tiny snap, and thought that what had caused it. Then I looked to my phone, still on the table, and there it was. A crack in the front screen. I could not open the phone any more since the crack went over the number selection field.
Now I need to decide whether I will start the fight or will I just pay the bill and hope, that both the new screens will last better.... It will cost me around 300 euros to get the both screens repaired. It is quite a lot and I will confirm that this will be my last Sony ever...
Anyone else from Finland with the same issue?

  • Where to Buy a Rear Glass Cover for the iPhone 4 from?

    Hi,
I really need some help, please. My nephew, who lives outside North America, in a country where is no Apple Store, has an iPhone 4 phone that I bought for him in Canada. He now tells me that, by some accident (he dropped the phone on a hardwood floor from about a foot high!), he got a crack in the glass on the rear panel. The back panel is very simple to replace but where could I buy an _original Apple_ rear panel from (not a Chinese, etc. copy that might not fit that well) to send it to him?
I went to an Apple Store, here in Canada, and was told that they don't sell parts and don't do such repairs to the iPhone 4, just exchanges for a fee due to accidental damage (but then the phone is overseas and not easy to have it shipped here).
Please help! Where could I buy the original part from?
Thank you, you could really make a kid happy!...

Well, I did go this evening to the Apple store in the Yorkdale Mall (in Toronto). I spoke to a blue T-shirt guy (salesperson, not Genius) and he claimed he even double-checked with his manager. I was told that:
    1. They do not care spare parts, nor can they repair iPhones or sell parts to customers; and
    2. I would have to bring the phone in (very difficult, as the phone is overseas) and they will exchange it with another phone for a fee.
Do you have any official document that states that Apple would replace the back cover for $29? Is that valid in the US? Could a different policy apply in Canada? Thanks.

  • Rear glass cover has cracked without being dropped twice in four months

I have had my z3 since December the notification bar stopped working after two weeks, after a month the front and rear screens cracked in my pocket I have paid £130 to have this repaired (outside of warranty) so I paid £50 to have the front and rear protected in heavy duty screen protection a week later the rear screen cracked again I am hugely disappointed in the build quality of this phone and will not be staying with or recommending Sony. I purchased this phone for its waterproofing this i have no faith in anymore.
HOW CAN YOU SELL A MOBILE PHONE YOU CANT PUT IN YOUR POCKET!!!!!!!!!!!!! DISGRACE!!!!!

Had mine since beginning of October always have it one of my pockets with the screen facing towards my body.Never sit down with it in my pocket though. Not a mark on the phone either

  • What should I do with scratched rear glass on iPhone 5?

The glass on the back of my iPhone 5 was scratched...I had no idea why this happened cuz the alluminum part is not scratched at all!  Is this covered in the warranty? or do I have to pay for the repair cost?

Like any warranty on any product, damage is not covered.
    I suggest ignoring it.
