SMTP in Unity 7

Devices: Unity version 7, hosted Exchange 2010.
A switch from Earthlink to TDS caused the Voicemail to Email service to break.  I'm trying to find a SMTP relay service to use to fix this as TDS states they do not offer this service.  The Exchange service is hosted outside the company by Sherweb.
I've looked for free SMTP relay services, and different companies offering this like SMTP.com, SMTP2Go.com (I've tested this one, didn't work), JangoSMTP....   but before I commit to buy services, I'm wondering if anyone has done this or what is the best way to get these voicemails to relay to their hosted Email service.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Hi Josh,
Depending on how the calls are coming into UC (forwarded, or direct) you'll want to take a look at the Call Routing rules and see where the calls are being sent.  If you're unable to determine where the call is being routed to, use either RTMT or download the remote port monitor tool from ciscounitytools.com (there is a couple configuration settings you need to perform in the help file for the tool to work) and you can see what call handler/greeting is being played and then go to that object and configure the after greeting actions for it.
Hope that helps,
Brad

  • Unity Connection 8.0 Intrasite-networking and SMTP Smarthost

    Hi,
    Two Unity Connection 8.0 clusters:
    Cluster1: ServerA (Pub) and Server B (Sub);
    Cluster2: ServerC(Pub) and Server D(Sub)
We want to setup  intrasite  networking between those two clusters. As listed in the networking guide of unity connection 8.x:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/8x/networking/guide/8xcucnet020.html
The followings are the requirement for SMTP or SMTP Smarthost.
    (1) The servers that will be networked together are directly accessible through TCP/IP port 25 (SMTP), or SMTP messages are routable through an SMTP smart host.
    (2) For Connection clusters, you must have a smart host available to resolve the SMTP domain of the cluster to both the publisher and subscriber servers in order for message traffic to reach
For the redundancy consideration, such as when one cluster's publisher is down, the subscriber can still send or receive message from another location, as per the documentation, a SMTP smarthost is required.
I am questioning if this external SMTP smarthost is really required, since in case the customer could not provide us the Smarthost to relay the message, how should we do?
If we configure SMTP Access for Cluster Subscriber Servers as listed in http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/8x/networking/guide/8xcucnet020.html#wp1053483
will this exclude the requirement of smarthost when one publisher server is down?
    Thanks,
    JJ

Editing prompts such as it is will probably never be supported by Unity or Connection - for a request like this it would have to be provided in the conversation (phrase logic) as an option to use one term or the other.
I know it seems like just hacking and slashing the prompt files should be a no brainer and we're just being obstinate by not allowing it but that's not the case.
Many of the prompts used to construct the language specific phrase files are used in more than one place (i.e. each phrase does not have duplicate WAV files for each "token" used to make up the complete phrase - they get shared) - so it's a dangerous thing to go in and start replacing prompts here and there since it many times has unintended consequences. Supporting folks going in and making such changes and then calling TAC because something "sounds funny" is a daunting task as you can imagine.
once you open that up to other languages it gets gnarly in a hurry. The last voice mail system I dealt with that actually allowed for this type of thing was Repartee (DOS based system back in the 90s) - and when it got ported to OS/2 and then Windows support for direct prompt edits was yanked for the same reasons.
so long way of saying direct prompt edits are not in our future I don't think. I can pass on your concerns with "ID" vs. "Extension" anyway...

  • Unity Connection 9.1 - SMTP Send from Address

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to change the SMTP sent from address and alias when receiving a VM in Outlook?
For example I receive VM's from an account alias of "Cisco Unity Connection Messaging System" and I would like to change this. It looks like it is linked to a local account configured on the Connection box with an alias of UnityConnection. The fields are greyed out and i'm not able to edit them directly, the only field that I wish to edit is the display name.
I am reluctant to delete the account and re-create one of my own using the same alias in case emails stop being sent. Has anyone any ideas or experience with this issue?
    Thanks,
    Phil

Yes it can be different than the OS domain. Secretly CXN is a Postfix mail server so this is essentially configuring the domain of the subscribers' mailboxes. As it will warn you though there are several service-impacting daemons that MUST be restarted after making the change.
As you mentioned, the networking guide does require unique SMTP domains per-cluster. This is because most of the inter-cluster traffic occures over SMTP, including message delivery. I typically recommend a semi-human friendly nomenclature such as:
    na.voicemail.domain.com
    emea.voicemail.domain.com
    apac.voicemail.domain.com

  • Unity Connections and SMTP

Currently I have Unity 8.6. I have a remote office that will not be on our domain or Exchange server (they are going to Microsoft 365). Is there a way to send via SMTP their voicemails over to them with the acknowledgement that features will not all be there like Unified Messaging?
    Thanks!

    Hello David,
I would also need clarification on what stands for remote office, is it a CUC, Exchange server or something else?
Assuming that what you are trying to deploy is relaying messages to users outside from your CUC server without using Unified Messaging then you would just simply configure:
    1. Smart Host: This will be the relay point that handles where on messages go. Most likely it will be an Exchange server.
2.Under User>Edit>Message Actions> Select for Voicemails or all the applicable options you wish to relay> Accept and relay. Then at the bottom put the email address where you want it to be send.
Basically CUC will notice that the address is an external domain, it will look for the Smart Host configured and send the message, afterwards Connection is out of the scope and it's up for Exchange or whatever other server you have configured to manage the messages to reach it's intended destination.

  • Cisco Unity Device notification SMTP, email and text not working

Client has Unity 1.x.  I know it's pretty old.  BUt looking at alot of documentation, the device notification concept is similar.
Currently the users are unable to recieve text notification or email notification.
    I follwed the following steps:
    1. configured the unity connection server to relay messages to a Smart host. In this link.  http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/1x/administration/guide/acm150.html#wp1042694
    2. I ocnfigured the user's device notification for SMTP.  I put the user's email address.
    3. I tried to set it up for text messaging and that did not work also.
Can someone please help me out.  What am i doing wrong?

I use [email protected] to forward emails to my phone . . . it gives me most of the message in the email, rather than just the subject line and maybe a word or two of the message.
Emails should be sent to your10-digit [email protected] or @vzwpix.com

  • Is there a way to bulk import/edit SMTP Proxy Adresses in Unity Connection 10?

I'm looking for a way to perform a bulk import of SMTP Proxy Addresses. BAT doesn't seem to have a way to do it.  I have 3,000 users, not looking forward to doing it manually!  Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Is there a reason you think it wont work with BAT? BAT has a field called 'SmtpProxyAddresses' which can be used to populate it. You will have to export your existing user data, massage it a little and add the SMTP Proxy address and use the Update option to make the changes. You can also set the "Generate SMTP address......" in the template for new users.

  • Unity Cxn 8 smtp relay - wav file name

    Hi,
Just wondering if it possible to change the name of or date/time stamp the wav file sent when relay is used?
    i.e. instead of voicemail.wav -> voicemail_15:13_06062012.wav
    Regards,
    John

Cisco has a document about this and it is a known issue in 8.x.  We asked for a work around and were told none existed.    This causes an errorr in Outlook after a user receives 100 VM's that causes an error and the temp folder needs to be flushed.  I don't have the document link.

  • Cisco Unity Express 8.6.6 Voice Mail not deleting when e-mail with attachment deleted

I have a Cisco Unity Communications Manager rel 9.1.2 that supports a remote location with a Unity Express rel 8.6.6 voice mail service module in the voice gateway to insure if WAN goes down the location still has voice mail. We have Voice Mail to E-Mail working. The problem is that when the e-mail with the voice mail is deleted the message stays in the Unity Express Voice Mail Box. All of our local users on the same Call Manager Cluster using a local Unity Connection Cluster rel 9.1.2 have the voicemails deleted when the e-mail is deleted.
How can I resolve this issue?

Found another post that referenced Cisco Bug ID CSCti37610.
CUC plays message is from Unity Connection Messaging system
Symptom:Before message playback, Unity Connection plays the message is from Unity Connection Messaging System instead sender's ANI
Conditions:Problem was observed on Unity Connection cluster and appropriate services are not rebooted after changing the SMTP domain name
    Workaround:
    Restart the Unity Connection servers
It should have been fixed in 8.5 but we did change the SMTP domain name on 8.6 and now see the problem. Will schedule a reboot and see if the issue goes away.

  • Unity 8.6.2 - Voice mail to Email

I am trying to setup Unity to Deliver Voicemail to Email as Attachment.
I do not have an exchange server or mail server... We are providing Telco and Vmail service to several small business in our building.  We use a POP3 service for our email.
I know how to set it up if I had my own SMPT server but I don't.
    http://ciscotalk.wordpress.com/2011/11/22/delivering-voicemail-to-email-as-attachments-with-cisco-unity-connection-8-5/
Is there a service that I can use and if so...how would I configure?

CXN must have an SMTP server to relay the mail to, you cannot do this purely with POP3.
If the users have CoS permissions (as well as network access to reach the appropriate port) they can use IMAP4 to connect their mail client directly to CXN in addition to their normal mail solution. Be advised that this can impact system capacity at scale, esspecially if the mail client doesn't support IMAP IDLE.

  • How to set-up voice mail to email on Unity Connection 8.6

    Hi all,
I need to set-up voice mail to email notification on a Unity Connection 8.6 MCS78XX server.  I've read several existing threads related to the subject, but have had somewhat of a difficult time finding a posting that provided a simplified approach with either or both of the options listed below.  I'm hoping and asking to receive a response (or responses) that will break it down.
    The intent is to either:
     A) Have new voice mail messages sent to end-user's e-mail inboxes as .wav files.
     B) Have notifications be e-mailed to end-user's inboxes whenever there is a new voice mail.
Cisco Unity Single Inbox is not the preferred method at this point.
I thank you all for your input and assistance!

Manish, if I may... I read the 2nd thread and it mentions the addition of the Exchange IP address under the smart host field... and it appears that the Exchange will also need the IP address of the Unity Connection server for relay...
question: under the Unity SMTP config options --> Server --> SMTP Domain --> can/should this be changed over to the Unity's IP address in an environment where the Unity Server's name is not resolvable?  The Unity Server in this case is not configured with DNS...  please advise
    Thank you again!

  • Weird error message in Unity Connection - Email Notifications

I went to a user, notifications, email, and put in the email address and enabled it. I click save and get this message "The specified SMTP address cannot be in the VMS domain." I searched and didn't see anything here on the forums about it and googled it and didn't find anything either. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Chad,
Is the domain name of the email address you are specifying the same as the domain name that the server is using? For this to work, the email address should be in a different domain than the one that the Unity Connection server is in.
    Hope this helps.

    Michael.

  • Cisco Unity Connection 8.6 not getting CLID information from CUCM 8.6

    Hello,
    Currently Running:
    Cisco Unified Communications Manager 8.6.2
    Cisco Unity Connection 8.6.2
    Problem:
when any outside caller leaves a voicemail, the caller number information is not being sent to unity.
example, I call with my cell phone, 817.555.1234 to my Cisco 7940 phone and it shows the CLID information that i am calling with. iDivert to voice mail, Leave a message. Playback message and just the default message information from Cisco Unity.
we currently upgraded from CUCM 6.1.3 and Unity 5. before i could press 9 and get the caller information.
I have viewed the "Playback Message Settings" and selected "After Playing Each Message, Play" and selected Sender's Information. and also selected "Include Extension and Sender's ANI"
upon playing the VoiceMail after the message i get the default message "From Cisco Unity Connection Messaging System"
I also have the message relaying to my E-mail and I get the same in the subject line.
"Message from Cisco Unity Connection Messaging System (Unknown extension)"
This tends to be a big deal with the Sales team as customers will call and say "Call me back"
But any Internal Calls show the correct information, proper greeting, extension information even on the relay to e-mail.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Tim

  • Cisco Unity Connection not relaying voicemails outside the organization

Hi all, we are running Cisco Unity Connection version: 8.6.2ES25.21900-25.  It has been set up to accept voicemails for Exchange 2010 users (in other words email messages with WAV attachments) and deliver these to their inboxes; this works with no problem.
I have two users who would like to receive these emails at their outside account, however the messages are never sent.  I have tried the following:
Changed the users corporate email addresses from "[email protected]" to "[email protected]"
Unchecked the option to "Generate SMTP Proxy Address From Corporate Email Address."
On the "Message Actions" page for their account I have configured voicemail and email to "Relay the message" and entered their external SMTP addresses.
Confirmed the smart host setup is OK (points to our Exchange 2010 CAS which has firewall rules in place to permit it to send mail outside the organization.
Confirmed the Exchange 2010 CAS will accept SMTP messages from the subnet the Unity Connection server resides in.
If I switch the user SMTP settings BACK to their original internal SMTP addresses for my company the messages are then immediately delivered properly to these addresses.  This signifies to me that Unity is periodically trying to send these items but they just aren't going out.  No sign of the messages in any user report I ran in Unity nor message tracking in Exchange.
I also tried setting up an Outlook rule to forward these voicemail messages to the recipients external addresses but this did not work and after doing some research I see that the way in which Unity delivers the messages to these recipients internally (via EWS) is the reason why.  I wonder if this is the same reason these are not going out to their external SMTP addresses.
    Thanks for any assistance provided!

Look at the transfer options for that particular user and make sure it's set to ring the phone, that configuration is PER user.

  • No T.37 fax support / Unity fax tools in Unity Connection?

I'm moving from Unity 7 to Unity Connection 9.1
In unity we used the T.37 inbound fax / unity fax (ie Fax is sent from router running .tcl scripts as e-mail + tiff into central mailbox. Unity moved fax into specific mailbox based on DNIS matching "faxId" setting on unity mailbox).
It appears as though this is not supported in Unity Connection, is this correct?
I am think the workaround is to set the destination mailbox directly on the dailpeer on the router by specifying an individual target mailbox as the smtp destination (rather than sending all to a central mailbox for unity fax service to move). The only downside to this appears to be the admin for setting new fax, or moving the mailbox delivery destination now relies on changing the SMTP address specified in the router config, instead of changing the faxid with the Unity/Unity Connection GUI.
Is this how others have addressed this situation? (I have a limited number of inbound faxes only, no outgoing - so wont be looking at full-blown fax server).
    Thanks.

    Hi
I know how T37 is, sometimes is really difficult to get support for this. On CUC is the integration is not supported by Cisco, but you can try this:
    - You can use T37 to send messages to CUC subscriber
    - To do it [email protected], on CUC subscriber. If the gateway IP has been added as the fax server in Unity Connection, it should show up in the users web inbox as a fax message since it has the TIFF attach.
But I'm not sure if this works and Cisco does not support it.
    Here's a link that might;
