Snd123 PKGBUILD error

teaching myself how to do PKGBUILDs and found a program that's not in the repos or AUR called snd123...
followed the tutorials as best I could and from what I saw on the programs site, mono is the only dep it has... did the PKGBUILD file and ran it after installing mono (big install, btw) and get the following error:

  • Several linuxwacom pkgbuilds error on download

    linuxwacom and linuxwacom-dev both error out in the downloading stage, as well as xf86-input-wacom.
    This is not the case with linuxwacom-cvs however.
    This happens both manually and with yauort, but that's to be expected if it's an external problem.
    I don't really know what to do about it other than make this post, hopefully someone else does.

    First ask yourself and remember when posting something of this sort: How does it 'error out', and on what file specifically? "During the download stage" is a better description than most people give, but still not quite enough.
    Next: You should first look at the source=() lines in the respective pkgbuilds.
    In the case of linuxwacom, you have
    http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/linu … l}.tar.bz2
    10-wacom.rules
    linuxwacom-0.8.4_3-xorg17.patch
    The latter two do indeed show up at the files area http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/linux … inuxwacom/ (Files link on AUR page).
    Looking at the pkgbuild's variables, the former "$pkgname-${pkgver}${_rel}.tar.bz2" would convert to "linuxwacom-0.8.4-3.tar.bz2", so we have this hypothetical URL:
    http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/linu … -3.tar.bz2
    If you put that in a browser, it fails and redirects to this sourceforge page http://sourceforge.net/projects/linuxwacom/files/ .
    If you look at that page, "$_rel" as "-3" no longer exists when the $pkgver is 0.8.4 (0.8.4-3). It's 0.8.4-4 now. Since you're sure the url is dead and not temporarily down or something you should tell the maintainer on the linuxwacom aur page comments if nobody else has reported it yet. Since you also know it is updated (from 0.8.4-3 to 0.8.4-4), you should use the "mark package as out of date" button on the aur page as well, which appears to have been done by someone else already for linuxwacom (but not -dev). The aur page comments are there for situations like this.
    Repeat the procedure with other packages giving you problems; most maintainers are happy to help (and to have legitimate problems reported) and get things working if you've put forth the small effort to make sure it's not something wrong on your end.

  • [solved] vice-gnomeui 2.3-1 - ERROR: A failure occurred in build().

    I hope that this is the right place to ask for help regarding PKGBUILD errors from software downloaded via AUR.
    I was trying to compile & install VICE (a Commodore 64 emulator) on my PC from http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=13418&detail=1
    First I got 2 dependency warnings for "audiofile" & "esound", but I was able to install "audiofile" using pacman, and to compile/install esound from AUR.
    However, when I tried makepkg for "vice-gnomeui 2.3-1" I got the following error:

    Is there a reason that after all of this time this is still only available in AUR, why isn't this module available in the package repository?

    I guess it's because the package doesn't get enough votes.

    i got a question: Should i automatically add x86_64 to my PKGBUILDs or not? I'm only running 32bit.
    My default behaviour always was to not add it and wait until somebody sends me a comment like "hi, it's running fine on x86_64, please add..." or "hi, you need to blablabla to get this running on x86_64" and then i would normally drop the package with a comment that i'm unable to maintain 64bit packages.
    Now, recently i got a comment for one of my packages like "hi, fix your shit, x86_64 is so common these day".
    So what's your opinion/Is there a default policy that i've overlooked? Should i stick to my old behaviour not adding x86_64 by default at the risk of annoying users and making things more complicated (comment ping-pong) or should i just add it and assume it'll be okay? Is there any guide/article which mentions potential problems with building 64bit packages, so that i can asses if there might occur problems or not?

    @Masuto
    I am one of the people who asked you to add x86_64 to pkgbuilds, more specifically - petri-foo && ebumeter - which both compile fine and work on x86_64. Which is exactly the reason i asked you to add x86_64. ie: i use both of those packages, almost daily on my 64bit system and didn't ask you to add x86_64 without first making sure they worked okay. Also, even if their was a (later) problem of x86_64 version not compiling - the problem would be reported upstream to the developer, as a problem like that should be reported upstream, rather than expecting the packager to have to fix the developers the code.
    I'd also like to point something out here; I did not make any demands, nor did i say this;
    masuto wrote:hi, fix your shit, x86_64 is so common these day
    Now here is actually what i said;
    triplesquarednine wrote:
    *please* fix your pkgbuild;

    Note that many packages may need a line added to their PKGBUILD
    such as arch=('x86_64').
    64bit CPUs are pretty much standard these days, so you should have x86_64 specified in there.
    cheerz
    I see a big difference in your interpretation of what i said vs. what was actually said;
    I politely asked you to fix your pkgbuild and 'cheerz' also indicates a salute / thanks / gratitude / appreciation...
    Maybe i am wrong to assume you 'should' have x86_64, using the reasoning that 64bit CPUs dominate the market and are quite common place ~ but when both packages are working fine for 64bit and only require adding x86_64 to the arch=() in order for x86_64 users to use them - i can't imagine any reason to not add them.
    do we really need to have separate x86_64 pkgbuilds/AUR for either of those packages?
    food for thought.

  • Installing own kernel...

    I have no problem git cloning my kernel of choice and configuring. My question is when compiling a new video drivers or any other package that might be dependent on Linux sources. I usually use the /usr/src directory. I am having trouble with the PKGBUILD on kernel26zen-git. It fails at installing after compile.
    Is there a global symlink ?Like there is in Gentoo? Where, I can custom build my kernels, and not have to worry about when I install new Nvidia drivers from there website. I am just greatly disappointed in these custom PKGBUILDS, and I don't need a initrd package. Are there any special parameters I need to be aware of... such as any global symlinks?
    Am I going to have problems install drivers from Nvidia's site if I decide not use the kernel26 packages, or any other package that compiles against the kernel sources..?
    Here's the error I get from the PKGBUILD
    ==> ERROR: Failed... Your source tree might be broken. Run 'make mrproper' in src/kernel26zen to clean it up
    ==> ERROR: Build Failed.
    Aborting...

    The PKGBUILD seems to be pointing to his own kernel chanco, shouldn't be a problem.
    @ OP: did you try the suggestion the error is giving you? I.e. a
    make mproper
    in the source tree?
    I was going to ... but I decided on a static kernel. And since I used to write ebuilds for my own packages, I decided to take up the task of writing my own PKGBUILD /w a static kernel, using the zen-sources git tree.
    BTW, am I going to be running into any problems in the future when running updates through pacman /w the way my kernel is setup? That's ,my main concern, since I am using a static kernel.  Though I do use my own video drivers from the Nvidia site, so I am not worried about video drivers.
    I guess I became accustomed with gentoo, that so much of the transition has been different.  Though I like Arch and its ABS, and AUR, plus there are lot of packages available.

    Things like this is probably better suited for the comments section in the AUR package.
    I had a problem installing it earlier because I tried to reinstall tm_smapi before dealing with the glibc and /lib issue. I don't know if that's any related to your problem though.

    I took a look at the package, and it doesn't even build if the PKGBUILD is modernised. You could probably get it to build if you hacked around the problems in the code, but it should be noted that this software is not supported upstream, and doesn't even support all the features of the OpenVAS version it is built for.
    The package has been orphaned on the AUR, so if you want to take a stab at getting it to work, feel free. Here is a modern PKGBUILD to get you started:

  • Was nostrip option removed from makepkg?

    PS. I was noticed that in wiki page "VCS PKGBUILD Guidelines", "The copy in $srcdir is made using svn export which does not create working copies. Any svn related command has to be used in the local repo in $SRCDEST." So when I change the cd line in build() and package() function into
    cd "$SRCDEST/$_svnmod"
    the error message vanished. But the local repo are changed when configure and make the project.

    Excellent, thanks, that did the trick!
    While I've opened this topic anyway, I have another question. The application in question uses a configuration file which it only looks for in the directory the executable resides in (unless a specific command line argument is given). For this reason, it seems most logical to place the application under /opt. But /opt is not in $PATH by default. What is the best way to add the directory /opt/vpcs to $PATH but to also remove it from $PATH when the application is removed?

  • Error-handling in PKGBUILDs is far from perfect

    Hi, PKGBUILDs should die on failure, rather than just continue regardless of errors. Here's a little rant:
    Why is it acceptable for ./configure to fail? Or make install to fail? Or the installation of just about any file? They could fail for lots of reasons, such as expecting a non-existent directory to exist, just being badly-written, or disk corruption, or running out of disk space. I see this lack of error-handling both in official packages and in the AUR.
    Failing on an error is a fundamental part of programming, and BASH makes a mockery of it. And then Linux developers seem to get brainwashed by BASH into believing that mixing important and non-important errors together, then just ignoring all the errors, is an acceptable programming practice. It's not - it's a comedy of errors (excuse the pun).
    SourceMage handles this problem by having one huge command constructed with && at the end of each line, so at least will fail on error.
    Gentoo is using its custom die command more often these days (|| die), but my proposal is in limbo, presumably because "SpanKY" overrules every other dev (little bit of Gentoo politics there ).
    The current practice of make || return 1 is correct, but || return 1 should be used far more often - example  (notice the looped use of install, and the annoyance of having to check $? after the loop). "More often" includes make install even if it's on the final line, both for consistency, and so it is not forgotten to be added when further lines are added to the end (e.g. to install the license/documentation files).
    I'll place this on flyspray after a bit of feedback.
    Edit: I'll distro-hop instead.

    I'm as guilty as anyone in this.  However, I always use it on the initial "configure" and "make install" lines where there is a lot of output.  I tend to miss it when installing individual files at the end (e.g. Licences, icons...) because I can see if they failed from the output.

    reportUnexpectedLoginError("IOException", ie);
    ctx.responseComplete();
    I understand tat there would be change in parameters like sendForward(HttpServletRequest request,HttpServletResponse response,String forwardUrl),
    but how would the other parameters work.
