Sneak Preview of WAS 640 and ABAP Engine

Hi all,
I installed the Sneak Preview of the WAS 6.40 on a WinXP system an tried out most of the examples and tutorials.
It is working fine and the developer studio is also very nice.
I am wondering whether the abap engine is also available in the sneak preview or is it restricted to the java side only?
Best Regards,
Steffen

Hi Steffen,
all you need for this type of communication is already included in the WAS. There's a lot of documentation available:
JCO (Java Connector for ABAP backends): http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/35/42e13d82fcfb34e10000000a114084/frameset.htm
Generating proxies "around" JCO (very useful feature of the developer studio):
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/ed/897483ea5011d6b2e800508b6b8a93/frameset.htm
Using ABAP EIS in a transactional J2EE environment via J2EE connector architecture: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/6f/1bd5caa85b11d6b28500508b5d5211/frameset.htm
This should be sufficient for the beginning
Hope that helps.
Best regards
Stefan

How does licensing WAS ABAp and J2EE differ....
If I get a key for WAS 640 ABAP and install via SLICENSE does this cover the J2ee engine also? I am running WAS 640 +java addin
    Thanks
    John

You might need to installed the license for the J2EE engine separately.  To see the installed licenses for the J2EE, use Visual Administrator and then: Server -> Services -> Licensing Adapter and under the "runtime" tab, see under installed licenses if you have a license installed, or not.
If not, you can install it there too.

  • Reinstalling Sneak Preview SAP Netweaver 2004s for ABAP

I had an error, installing the sneak preview.
So I want to reinstall it, so when I was in the uninstall.
I couldn´t erase the MAXdb, when I wanna drop the NSP db the program ask me user name and password.
I put in user name: superdba and password that I have set it before (in the installation)
I he tell me that is incorrect ¬¬ Im sure that the pass is okey, so what I wanna know is which is the name that SAP use it to name the admin of the DB, because superdba is not working.
and if the name is really superdba, there is a way of unistalling the MaxDB ???

    Rodrigo,
There are so many registries created during the installation. You may download the registry clean-up utility using the following link.
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/67d87cef-0d01-0010-e985-d9af92303bd4
If it still would not work, let me know. We should clear those manually.

  • JCo Create destination between WAS 640 and R/E 4.6C

    Hi community,
I create a little SLD with 2 technical system:
WAS 640 Java and an ABAP system...
Now I must produce the JCo communication destionations in ABAP Stack and Java Stack.
I have many ambiguous on work...es I don't know a program ID parameters.
Somebody know a good paper reference...book, manual, brochure...
    Thank's everybody,

    read up on registered communications
The program parameter is a dummy placeholder that needs to have the exact same value and case as in the TCP/IP com setup in SM59.

  • Was 640 and SLM

    Good morning,
Regarding the new SLM fonctionalities integrated in the was 640,  can you give us some clarifications ? :
Is it Solution Manager which is integrated in standard in the WAS 640 ?
    Thanks & rgds, Isabelle Bodet

    Hi Bodet,
Solution Manager is not delivered within the SAP NetWeaver AS (formerly SAP Web AS).
SLM is an application that is delivered with SAP NetWeaver '04 J2EE (sometime called 6.40 as a technical release number). The actual functionality was delivered with SP-Stack 12.
SLM is a landscape planning tool that compliments Solution manager. It does not replace or include Solman functionality.
SLM does use information defined in the SLD - however it does require a SAP NetWeaver '04 version of the SLD (6.40) so it cannot use a SLD located within a Solution manager. The recommendation would be to use a SLD external to solman so you do not have release conflicts (like the one above).
There is a good blog by Matt Kangas on the SLM topic that has more details: /people/matt.kangas/blog/2005/07/15/test-drive-software-lifecycle-manager
    I hope this helps,
    Mike.

Have you tried restarting the SAPInst? If the restart

  • Mini WAS 6.2 ABAP Engine - install problem [Win XP Home]

    Hi,
I'm having trouble installing the above on my laptop. While running the setup on the CDs I get to 47% when I get an error saying "installation root & instance name can't be in the same directory".
When I first insert the install cd, I only have the option of installing in C:\ - Is there some issue with installing it in the root of your machine? If so, will i need to partition my machine and install in another drive? I tried mounting a directory in the C:\ drive but this directory still didnt come up as an option for installation. Please help...

    Tiest, Thanks for the information.
I downloaded SAP NetWeaver ABAP 7.01 trail and tried install on XP Professional , SP 02. I created XP Prof as a virtual pc on Windows Vista Basic.
Here is how the folder structure after extracting the first .rar file.
    1. I created a folder SAP Netweaver and placed the two .rar files.
    2. Extracted the first .rar file to SAP Netweaver > SAPNW7.01ABAPTrial > SAPNW7.01ABAPTrial
    3. Followed the instructions as per the Start.htm page.
I got the following errors. Log.txt

  • Compatability of J2EE and ABAP Editions

Are these two sneak preview editions (Java Edition and ABAP Edition) compatable such that they both can be installed on the same XP system?
Presumably the Full edition which is not yet released will provide for a proper J2EE add-in installation.
But in the meantime, should it be OK to install the J2EE ABAP installations separately on the same system?
If yes, if there any special approach to the instance numbering that must be followed?
    Thanks!

Thanks for those hints.   I have installed the ABAP version (SID = NSP).   After that the J2EE installation (J2E) is smart enough to figure out that instance 00 is already taken and uses 02 (without any input from the installer).
But ... unfortunately ... Load Java Database Content step just hangs.  The last message in the log is an INFO message (see below).   It seems like a lot of people have reported problems like this one.

  • How to use JCo Provider Service w/Sneak Preview and Test Drive

I have both SAP Web AS Sneak Preview (6.40) and MiniWas 6.20 Test Drive installed on a single system.  I have implemented a Java server program which can be RFC called from an ABAP program using JCO.
The only disadvantage to this process is that I must manually run the server program each time I bring up the J2EE system.
I would like to set things up so that when I start the WebAS 6.40 J2EE system, the server function can be automatically registered (if I'm using the correct terminology - not at all sure about that...).  It looks to me that I should be able to use JCo Provider Service to do what I want to do, but I don't know how to do any of the session bean creation and I esp. can't seem to find out how to run the  J2EE Visual Administrator, which the documentation I've found leads me to believe needs to be used.
Is there a tutorial, or example, that will lead me through this entire process?  I have the ABAP calling program working OK, and I have the Java JCo server program working ok - I just want to create something in Java that will operate like a good old C Language function installed as an RFM.
Can anyone help? Is it possible?

    Stefan:
Well, I guess I'm stuck at the first step.
As I understand it, I have to use the Visual Administrtor to register the Web AS 6.40 Sneak Preview system as an RFC destination.  When I bring up the Visual Administrator, it has essentially two tabs showing: Dispatcher and Server.  It's inviting me to define a connection and Login.  So, Q1: Is it inviting me to login to the J2EE or the Web AS?  Either way, I am never able to login - I get this error:
    com.sap.engine.services.security.exceptions.BaseLoginException: Cannot create new RemoteLoginContext
I used all of the NetWeaver sneak preview defaults when installing, and I recorded these:
    Type               Account
    OS User            Compaq-laptop/J2EAdm
    OS User            Compaq-laptop/SAPServiceJ2E
    DB User            SAPJ2EDB
    J2EE Engine User   Administrator
    J2EE Engine User   Guest
Q2:  Is it possible to do what I'm trying to do with the Sneak Preview system?
Or am I trying to connect and logon to the Web AS 6.20 Test Drive (I don't think so...)?  I used the defaults when installing the Test Drive, and have these users:
    BCUSER
    DDIC
Is it one of these I should be logging onto?
Also, Visual Administrator wants a port specified on the J2EE Engine connection paramters - what port should I be specifiying?
Can you get me past this dilemma, Stefan?  Thanks...

  • Sneak Preview WAS & EP60_SP4 - Issue

    successfully.
After the installation i am able to login and i get the "Portal Content" page

but the  menu options in the top right hand corner namely "Help" , "Peronalize" , "Logoff"
    work.
Eventhough i am unable to do anything in the EP ( http://<server-name>:50000/irj )
I am able to delpoy and run "J2EE Engine Examples" from the WAS home page

Has anyone encountered this problem before ?
Any ideas about how to troubleshoot this issue ?.............where to look & what to look

    Hi Subramanian,
I have the same problem at my first sneak preview install. But after rebooting my machine and restarting everything again SQL server > start SAP from SAP Management, wait for a while. After that everything went fine.
By the way, what is your hardware configuration?.

  • ABAP or JAVA edition of the sneak preview sap netweaver ??

Hi we want to install a local  enviroment to test sap netweaver, in particular, sap portals.
We have seen that there are two edition and I have some questions:
1.-What's the diference between the ABAP and JAVA edition of the sneak preview sap netweaver? The abap does not include the portals, true?
2.-is possible to install both, ABAP and JAVA edition of the sneak preview sap netweaver?
3.-Are there installation guides and how-to of the sneak preview sap netweaver?
    Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards

    1)  The ABAP side is more of the SAP basis platform which R/3 runs on top of.  You have ABAP programs, Data Dictionary, Function modules, etc.  Portals does NOT run on this side.  If you are just looking for portals, then just install the java stack.
    2)  Yes it is possible.

  • VC and Sneak Preview

    Hi,
I have installed the Portal sneak preview with WAS 6.40 and Portal SP7.
VC 6.0 patch 2 is installed on the  same machine .
I have configured a SAP system on the portal but I can not see it in the system list in VC after logging on to the portal. (Alias is created  and user mapping is configured on the portal).
In the portal log files entrie like :
    om.sap.portal.guimachine.portalconnector.Login#
    #1.5#000374890932004A000001AD0000039C0003EAAA3E857D62#1102442120621#System.err#sap.com/irj#System.err#Guest#2#####SAPEngine_Application_Thread[impl:3]_19##0#0#Error##Plain###com.sapportals.portal.prt.runtime.PortalRuntimeException: Exception in connection#
    What is wrong ?
    Thanks for any hint.
    Marcus

    Hi Marcus,
    Please make sure that:
    1. System alias is defined.
    2. User mapping is defined for that alias and you use the same use in Visual Composer Story Board.
    3. You have installed the latest SDAs from patch 2 on the portal side.

  • NW Sneak Preview EP 6.0 SP4 and TREX

    Greetings.
I installed the sneak preview edition with KM and it works fine. We would like to install TREX.
Did anyone tried installing TREX along with the Sneakpreview. If so could you please let me know the version and any other tips.
    Thanks in advance.

    PK,
Have you had any success configuring TREX with EP 6.0 SP4?  I have been trying myself and have not had much luck.
After a successful install of TREX 6.0.1.2.0 on a seperate server, I receive a java runtime error in the Portal TREX monitor.
I have also noticed that in the Portal, under System Administration -> System Configuration -> Knowledge Management -> Configuration,  there is no TREX folder.
I am beginning to think that you cannot install TREX onto this trial version of EP.  Do you agree?
    Thanks,
    Matt
