Snippets in Flash Builder ?

Will there be an option to save snippets in Flash Builder ?
My experience is that I spend WAY more time looking up code than creating stuff in Flex.
Snippets would be a colossal timesaver...

  • Found 2 bugs in new Flash Builder 4.7

    Hello.
    I've just migrated all of my large projects to the new Flash Builder 4.7 (from 4.6) and they all work well except for the 2 annoying issues:
    1. I don't know why, but FB no longer allows me to create "config" packages. It says "config is a reserved word in ActionScript and cannot be used." Wtf? I had lots of projects using such names in FB 4.6 and didn't have any issues with it. Is it a new rule in FB 4.7? If so - then why it was introduced and was introduced only now? ActionScript language and FB exist not the first year... Also after i migrated existent projects i see all "config" packages have non-standard "folder" icon in the source file tree (in the package explorer panel).
    2. There are strange warnings started to appear - "the import BLA-BLA-BLA is not used locally", but I am not blind - I see it is used just a little bit below in the code. What is wrong with this?
    Please help as I am confused now about what to do... I waited for FB 4.7 for so long and now I think I will need to downgrade...

    Hi Infeter,
    For 1;
    After the number of hours I have lost debugging issues where someone has inadvertently named a variable the same as a package that is on the root, so making it impossible for FB to discern whether I am talking about "aname.veryImportant" as the sub-package "veryImportant" of the package "aname" or the property "veryImportant" of the variable "aname", I welcome any and all new warnings of how a coder may inadvertently break Flash! So, if they are saying it is a reserved word, it is probably because there is a core class, variable or other such that will, at some point, bite you if you name something after it. This has always been the case with, for example "default" - default is a keyword that has real meaning for the compiler and you will not be allowed to define things as "default" because of the potential for confusion (are you issuing the "default" directive in a switch statement or are you referring to the "default" value in your class?). Given that FB has the frankly excellent "Refactor" function to allow you to easily rename packages, members and classes, I'd just be happy to rename the offending items and be glad to have saved myself several hours of painful debug later on.
    For 2;
    I'm surprised you're seeing this warning for classes that are not used. I've found loads that were added in automatically over the years that simply are not used. I'm loving the way I can clean out about half my import statements now. The thing to do is to comment out the imports and check that everything still works. If it does, then you're laughing, you don't need them. If it triggers errors of not being able to locate the class, then I would put together a code snippet and add it as a comment to your bug report.

  • How to display rich content with URL in adobe flash builder and flex for mobile apps?

    Hi,
      In Apple IOS SDK, I used the WebView control to display the rich text with Bullets, different font style, images within the text and the URLs also within the text as HTML content.
    Clicking on the URLs automatically opens the respective webpage in Safari.
    In Adobe Flash Builder, I don't see any control straight away equivalent to Apple WebView control.
    How to implement the same using adobe and flex?

    Thanks for your reply, its nice to know its not just me.

  • I am trying to save a custom code snippet in Flash CC and it does not save, any ideas why?

    I am trying to save a custom code snippet in Flash CC and it does not save, any ideas why?  I am using Windows 8.1 with Flash CC.
    I even when into the "Edit Code Snippet XML" and added a Custom folder and a custom template.  Then I went back to add the code snippet again and it still did not work.

  • CSS styles in Flash Builder 4

    I'm having trouble creating custom info panels with CSS in Flash Builder 4.  I don't get any errors in Flash Builder or the Flash debugger and the styles look exactly as I expect.  When I publish the panel and try to open it in Photoshop CS5, the tab disappears when I click it.  Without CSS the panel runs fine.  It also runs fine with in-line styling.  I have tried both embedded and external CSS.
    I understand that Flash Builder 4 uses CSS namespace declarations, but since I am using the default halo theme I shouldn't need a namespace, right?  Even so, I have tried using various namespaces including:
    @namespace "http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml";
    @namespace mx "http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml";
    @namespace fi "com.adobe.xmp.components.*";
    Do I have to use StyleManager and load the CSS at run time?
    snippets:
    <fi:XMPForm
    xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
    xmlns:fi="com.adobe.xmp.components.*" width="100%" height="100%" label="XMP_TESTS">
    <mx:Style source="test.css"/>
    //Form items here
    /* CSS file */
    .workFormItem
    borderColor: #DBD5A5;
    borderStyle: solid;
    cornerRadius: 5;
    textIndent: 5;
    .imageFormItem
    borderColor: #C7D5F1;
    borderStyle: solid;
    cornerRadius: 5;
    textIndent: 5

    I'm also finding that some in-line styles that work in Flex Builder 3 (for info panels run in CS4 and CS5) but don't work in Flash Builder.  Again, these appear to be legal and don't cause an error, they either cause the compile to fail or they compile but the panel won't run in CS5.
    Two in-line styles that don't seem to work in fi:XMPTextInputMRU are cornerRadius & themeColor
    Perhaps these are conflicts with the halo theme or there is a bug in the XMP FileInfo SDK.  I'm puzzled becasue some styles work and others don't.
    For reference, I'm trying to duplicate the styles that I successfully created in my Flex Bulder 3 project (screenshot: http://metadatadeluxe.pbworks.com/w/page/27003617/VRA_beta-screen-shot:-All-Fields)
    Thanks for any help you can give.

  • Flash Builder 4.5 Java Heap Space Error

    Hello everyone,
    I've downloaded Flash Builder 4.5 trial a few days ago. Let me first tell that I like the new features a lot and they help to speed up the development process noticably. I thank Adobe for that very much.
    However I did not notice any performance boost over the Flash Buidler 4. Even worse, the 4.5 version seems to run much slower and use more memory than Flash Builder 4. I constantly keep getting Java Heap Space errors and needles to say, the tool just crashes and I have to restart it.
    Here how my experience working with the new version looks like. I start the Flash Builder 4.5 which has my current project open (for the record, I still use Flex 4.1, and the project includes roughly 300+ classes and 30000+ lines of code (AS and MXML)). At the beggining everything works fine and pretty fast. UI, code completion, snippets and all other good stuff works pretty fast. However, after each build, FlashBuilder.exe process eats up from 50 to 100 megabytes of memory and does not seem to release it or reuse it. So after a 5 or 10 builds it already appears to be using over 1 GB of RAM. At that point the editor becomes sloppy - it can't keep up with my typing, code completion popups takes a few seconds to show up. And a few more builds - the Flash Builder freezes and after a minute or two I get Java Heap Space error.
    I've tried increased the JRE heap space used by the Flash Builder (flashbuilder.ini, flashbuilderc.ini, eclipse.ini) to -Xms512m -Xmx1024m as well as permanent generation heap space to -XX:MaxPermSize=512m -XX:PermSize=256m and the mxml compiler (jvm.config) to -Xms384m -Xmx768m. However this did not solve the problem. Maybe just postponed it a bit.
    Am I the only one observing such behaviour of Flash Builder 4.5? Does any one have any other ideas how to fix this? (by the way, I work on 64bit machine with Widnows Server 2008R2, 4GB of RAM and 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo).
    Thanks in advance.
    Michael

    I'm seeing nearly the same thing.  I also have a very large set of projects similar to what you are describing and I do have Java Heap Space errors (The details show an error of "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: unable to create new native thread" occurring for me)
    I had similar issues, although they are more frequent in the 4.5 builder, in the 4.1 builder.  In 4.1 builder, I didn't get the exact same detailed error regarding threads.
    I did install my flash builder into a clean instance of eclipse 3.6.2 vs using the standalone install.  That shouldn't make a difference though.  In 4.1, I tried he standalone install and saw the same issues I saw in the plugin version.
    I'm also using the 4.1 SDK in Flash Builder 4.5 (It appears that is what you are doing).  I've been attributing the crashes to the following bug in the 4.1 SDK, although I have applied the files in the bug report and still have the problem.  I'm hoping when I'm able to switch to the 4.5 SDK it may help.  (I can't switch yet because from what I can tell, it requires 10.2 Flash Player and my company is currently only on 10.0)
    The Bug Report I'm referring to is: https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/SDK-26366
    I've bumped up all of the memory settings you've referred to and it helps the environment run longer, but it still eventually crashes.  One thing I definately do is make sure that the "Build Automatically" is unchecked.
    The machine I'm running on is an Intel 2600K with 16GB of memory running Windows 7 64-bit, so I don't think hardware is the issue.
    No real answer, but your not alone in having similar issues.

  • Flash Builder Data problem - mysqli_stmt_bind_param ?

    Hi All.. hope someone can help.
    I've started a very simple application and experiencing a problem regarding creating a new record in a MySQL database via PHP & Zend.
    Here's the snippet of AS:
              newLine.buy_price = cursor.current.buy;
              newLine.sell_price = cursor.current.sell;
              linesService.createLines(newLine);
              createLineResult.token = linesService.commit();
    Here's the snippet of PHP (all generated by FB):
         public function createLines($item) {
              $stmt = mysqli_prepare($this->connection, "INSERT INTO $this->tablename (supplier, sku, product_name, quantity, buy_price, sell_price) VALUES (?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?)");
              $this->throwExceptionOnError();
              mysqli_stmt_bind_param($stmt, 'iisiii', $item->supplier, $item->sku, $item->product_name, $item->quantity, $item->buy_price, $item->sell_price);
              $this->throwExceptionOnError();
              mysqli_stmt_execute($stmt);
              $this->throwExceptionOnError();
              $autoid = mysqli_stmt_insert_id($stmt);
              mysqli_stmt_free_result($stmt);
              mysqli_close($this->connection);
              return $autoid;
    When I run the createLines() function then commit(), I get the following error popup from my application:
    MySQL Error - 1064: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'lines (supplier, sku, product_name, quantity, buy_price, sell_price) VALUES (?, ' at line 1

    #9 {main}
    As as I see it, the parameters are not being replaced by the actual values, so MySQL is freaking out as it's getting question marks in the statements. What I don't understand is how this is happening! Everything is auto-generated by FB. I created a new project from scratch and used only drag & drop from the Data/Services panel to generate a form for data entry and got the same error.
    Any ideas!?
    Cheers,
    Steve

    Hi,
    Thanks for your feedback!
    This feature has been going through a lot of changes with the BlazeDS and Flash Builder builds.
    We request you to pick up the BETA2 build of Flash Builder and BlazeDS 4.0.0.10654, hopefully you should see things working fine.
    Kindly let us know if you still encounter problems.

  • Please help me with this chaotical Flash Builder 4.5 Code Assist

    Hello everybody. In the past few days, I have been analyzing a very strange behavior of my Flash Builder 4.5. I am trying to upgrade to it, from Flex Builder 3, but I am finding the process impossible due to 2 problems. This is the first one:
    I get no code assist for SOME casted types. I don't understand why! I would be very grateful to any kind soul which can pull me aboard Flash Builder 4.5. I've been waiting 26 months (yes, more than 2 years) to have an ActionScript IDE with snippets & conditional breakpoints and now I can't make it work ::- (.
    First, see this image:
    As you can see there, the environment WARNS me (I hate warnings!) that there is no "Text" member. HOWEVER, the code compiles and runs. Even worse, accessing that member after an explicit type declaration works fine.
    Now here comes the funny part: I declared some other type called "SomeClass" and put in it a TestMethod and casted "sender" to it. SURPRISE!!! The Code Assist works there!
    WHY !?
    I even tried a TestProperty, just like in G3Widget, and that works fine as well! I don't get it any more!!!
    I extracted some code for you:
    //This is where I did the above tests.
    package //This class is in the root of the application.
      import Gamaddiction.ASDFG.GAS3.G3Construction.G3Widget;
      import Gamaddiction.ASDFG.GAS3.G3Construction.SomeClass;
      public class SandBox
        private function cmdTwo_Click (sender: Object, fe: Event, payload: Object): void
          trace(G3Widget(sender).Text); //Can't see "Test" in Code Assist List and I get a WARNING: -Access of undefined property Text
          var a: G3Widget = G3Widget(sender);
          trace(a.Text); //But this works!
          trace(SomeClass(sender).TestMethod); //This crashes, of course, because sender is NOT a "SomeClass"
          //but nevertheless, it compiles fine and I get NO warnings and the Code Assist WORKS FINE HERE.
    //Code assist works fine for the following Class.
    package Gamaddiction.ASDFG.GAS3.G3Construction
      public class SomeClass
        public function SomeClass ()
        public function get TestMethod (): String
          return "bau";
    //This is the G3Widget Class, on whose Text member Code Assist fails.
    //This class is in THE SAME path as the above Class, which works fine.
    package Gamaddiction.ASDFG.GAS3.G3Construction
      public class G3Widget implements IG3Parent
        protected var _Text: String;
        public function get Text (): String
        { return _Text; }
        public function set Text (text: String): void
        { _Text = text; }

    I found why the nasty behavior above was happening ::- D.
    I usually design my classes in Enterprise Architect. Since this is a rather large project, started from of about 30 classes, I did the entire architecture in EA, then, generated the code.
    But, EA has poor AS3 support. And as a consequence, it has a few issues, such as the way it generates CONSTRUCTORS:
    public function G3Widget (name: String, parent: IG3Parent = null): void
    Spot the mistake ::- D.

  • How to put ActionScript into Catalyst project via Flash Builder?

    I don't know if this is the wrong place to put this, but I need to add some ActionScript into my Catalyst project... from what I understand, it can only be done via Flash Builder. Am I right? How?

    Hi Alex,
    To edit the code of a Flash Catalyst project, you can import it into Flash Builder as follows:
    File > Import > Flash Builder Project
    Select the FXP file from Catalyst
    Make sure "Import new copy of project" is selected, then hit Finish
    I'm not sure where you got the ActionScript code that you're planning to use, but it may be difficult to integrate into your project if it's not designed for use with Flex (a lot of AS code snippets you'll find online are just for general use in Flash, not tailored for Flex applications).  But you'll probably want to do something like this:
    Locate the image you want to make random.  If you're having trouble doing this, switch the view to Design mode, select the image with the mouse, and then switch back to Code mode to see the corresponding code highlighted.
    If there's no id attribute set on the image, add one (so you can refer to it in code later).
    If the tag is s:BitmapImage, change it to mx:Image (this is needed to make the contents dynamic)
    If the root s:Application tag doesn't have a creationComplete handler, add one (type it partway, then hit Ctrl+Space, then choose "Generate Handler").
    In the handler, add your code to randomly select an image filename.
    Then set <your image's id>.source = <filename>
    Hope that helps!

  • Developing Iphone App using Flash Builder and Flex Air Mobile

    I started developing an Iphone app using the trial version of Flash Builder and was pretty impressed with how easy it was, then i hit problems:
    Trying to submit my app, I was getting invalid binary, using google i tracked this down to a change in the Apple App Store meaning that all apps needed to have native iphone 5 support, which meant updating to Air SDK 3.7
    Updating to AIR SDK 3.7 was a nightmare (mainly as a result of my failure to read the small print)
    Once I got SDK 3.7 to  work with flash builder / flex mobile i though i was there.
    However now i can produce a fast build but everytime i try and produce a standard / production build i get strange errors (air 3.8 does the same).
    My Question is - before i actually buy Flash Builder has anybody actually achieved the following:
         Building an Iphone App using:
         Flash Builder 4.7    (running on OSX)
         Flex Mobile 4.6
         Air 3.7
    If so how ?

  • Buggy Flash Builder?

    2 strange things just happened in my code.
    1.  i have a vector object called myVector.  i want to remove all object in the vector so i write myVector.splice(0).  it claimes there is an error becasue the function splice (apparently) requires 2 parameters, eventhough it doesn't according to the docs, nor have i ever had to to do this before.  now i have to included the length of the vector as the second parameter for it to compile without "errors"
    2.  i'm calling a public function of my class from within my class, but FB complais saying the function can't be found.  it's not misspelled.  it only lets me compile if i prefix the keyword "this" to my function:  this.myFunction();
    wtf?!
    i'm using Flash Builder 4.5 on Mac OS X 10.6.7

    Hi,
    Please log a bug under 'Flash Builder' project at
    http://bugs.adobe.com/flex with a sample code snippet.

  • Flash Builder crash with error log

    I started a trial FB 4.6 a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday FB started crashing arbitrarily while simply using the editor. Error log entries (from workspace/.metadata/.log) like the snippet below immediately precede the crash. FB is open from anywhere between 10 seconds to 20 minutes before crashing.
    Crashing: the whole Flash Builder UI locks up and needs to be force-quit.
    Problems seemed to start after I did these new things; installed Android USB driver for my device, debugged on the device, and also tried the Profile feature. Doing those things seemed to work fine, and I otherwise don't know what they'd have to do with the message(s like the one) below. At crash time, the file noted is not there, instead there is single file:
    "...\.metadata\.plugins\com.adobe.flexbuilder.codemodel\SwcCache\swcPaths.cache".
    However as I browse the .plugins folder looking for files related to this problem, I've seen folders/files suddenly appear and disappear, not related to any build process.
    I've tried rebooting. I'm going to try changing workspaces. Here's a log snip:

    Apparently related to switching workspaces... the error log identifies a path to an old workspace I changed out of weeks ago. I created a new workspace and moved the project (just the source, etc, not the settings) into it. been running fine for a while now... though funny how this problem didn't show up until yesterday.

  • What is new in Flash Builder 4.7 Game Development beta 2

    I just installed it, I thought it would include some version of monocle.
    Are there any changes other than a support for a product not available yet through labs?
    If Not, when will we get monocle to test with it?

    In this build you can create SWFs that support profiling with Monocle, but you will need to download Monocle separately as it is not a part of Flash Builder.
    The telemetry API usage via monocle is possible only with the AIR SDK 3.4, so out of the box AS3 projects would support creating SWFs that can be used with monocle. To make it work with MXML (or rather Flex) would will need to overlay the Flex 4.6 SDK with the AIR 3.4 runtime.

  • Adobe creative cloud cc install has messed up my Flash Builder 4.6 serialization

    Hello,
    I have been a flash builder user for several years now. I have had FB 4.6 installed on my computer as a free upgrade from FB 4.5, which came with my copy of creative suite 5.5, which I purchased in 2011.
    FB 4.6 has been working fine - even when I moved to adobe creative cloud last May (2012).
    However, now that I have installed the new creative cloud (CC) applications (and uninstalled the creative cloud cs6 apps) - I am having problems with Flash Builder 4.6. I open it and get a message that my 'trial period' is up. Again, I own FB from my purchase of CS 5.5 - not to metion that it was included in creative cloud. I know that I can download FB 4.7 from creative cloud, but it doesn;t have the design view. So I want FB 4.6. I have seen some solutions to similar problems on the web that recommend reinstalling as a trial and then inputting the serial number once it launches. But I have FB 4.5 on my CS 5.5 installation disc - not FB 4.6 - and I'm not even sure how I could get FB 4.6 anymore. Not to mention that uninstalling - reinstalling 4.5 - and then upgrading from 4.5 to 4.6 - even if possible - would be a huge hassle.
    Can someone please help me to get my FB 4.6 working again? To reiterate - everything was fine until I installed Creative Cloud CC apps and uninstalled Creative Cloud CS6 apps
    Thanks
