Starting Server in Debug Mode - Need Some Advice Plz.
Hi Guys,
I have an EP SP 12 Server Running and I am trying to Start the Server in Debug mode from the Netweaver Developer Studio but when I right click the Server and try to choose Debug, the option is greyed out and even while viewing the Debug option from the SAPMMC I see that under the column Debug, it say 'Disabled' for the Server and Dispatcher.
Can anyone suggest how this can be done, I would appreciate any help as I have been working on this for some time.
Best Wishes,
John.

If the you cannot start the server in the debugging mode through the NWDS then you can try the other way round.
<b>Through Config Tool:</b>
You can enable the debuggine mode from the Config Tool as well. Just visit the following path :
<b>C:\usr\sap\<SID>\JC<SYS_NO>\j2ee\configtool\configtool.bat</b>
Click on the your instance. Then under the tab VM Environment, Set the <b>DebugMode = true</b>.
Restart the engine now. This will open the J2EE server again in the Debug Mode.
I hope this helps you!!

Starting SOA suite in debug mode
Hello people, is there any way of starting SOA suite in debug mode so I can see the various steps being performed during startup/shutdown? I checked runstartupconsole but it does not have any debug options?
Check below mentioned PDF
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/ohs/htdocs/opmn-1013-faq.pdf
Make the necessary changes to opmn.xml file using information above and then use below command to start/stop soa
$ORACLE_HOME\opmn\bin\opmnctl stopall
$ORACLE_HOME\opmn\bin\opmnctl startall
Then check opmn.dbg file under $ORACLE_HOME\opmn\logs\ folder where you can find step by step information.

How to start server in debug mode by default
Hi,
Whenever the server starts it does not start in debug mode.
One has to manually start the "SDM" and "Server0" in the debug mode.
Is there a way I can make the server start in debug mode for the first time itself.
regards,
SaurabhHi Saurabh,
You can start the server in debug mode using config tool. Just open cofig tool (/usr/sap/<SYS ID>/JC<SYS NR>/j2ee/configtool/configtool.bat).
Click on the your instance. Then under the tab Servers Debug check Debuggable and also Enable Debug mode.
Restart the engine now.
However a word of caution: Starting the server in debug mode decreases the system performance. You should only start the dev server in debug mode.
Hope this helps.

Start weblogic server in debug mode through command prompt
Hi,
Please help me in starting the weblogic server in debug mode through command prompt.I am using weblogic 10.3.6 app server.
ThanksHi,
To debug weblogic startup issues you can pass the below jvm arguments:
-Dweblogic.slc=true
-Dweblogic.debug.DebugServerLifeCycle=true
Debug options are available in weblogic based on the subsystem, such as security, jms, jdbc, deployment..etc
You can refer to :

How to stop B2B listener polling when SOA server in Admin Mode
Hi ,
I recently came across this situation like my B2B FTP listener is polling and deleting file when my SOA server is Admin Mode.
Can anyone help me to stop that polling when server is in Admin Mode ?
Thanks,
Sabathanks for quick reply...
the "catch (IOException e) {... } " block in Server already catches this exception, and as there is no other code but printing the exception, the method run() is quitted (no need to terminate the loop). However, the thread is NOT terminated even after that. To make it sure, I added a public variable and accessed it from Handler at the end of the code, after sd.resetSock(); !!!
You told that it doesn't stop because of the way I coded it, isn't it the traditional way of setting a listener socket? If no, may be recoding the listener would be much better... -

shivaI am not sure, how can you do it on the fly, but if you want to restart the server here are the parameters you need to add to the java arguments
-Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=$Port
(where Port will be any port you want to connect to).

Transport dt_socket failed to initialize, rc = -1.
The setting in config.xml file is:-

Any help will be appreciated.

Restart the server in debug mode: How to drop saved passwords?
In NWDS server pane, I entered a wrong password when trying to restart my SAP AS Java in debug mode. Now I only get exceptions "com.sap.enginemanagement.UnauthorizedException: Incorrect login information provided" without a chance of changing the entered credentials. Restarting NWDS didn't work.
Any ideas?
Thx,
ChristophHi Christoph,
are you talking about the "Java EE" perspective and the "Servers" view within it? I tried it out and it does not behave properly.
Try the "SAP Management" perspective. Within the left hand tree open your system, expand the instance starting with "J..", expand the "AS Java" node and select the "Process Table" node. In the right hand table select the server0 process and chose from the context menu "Start Debug Session".
The SAP JVM offers some extra debug options. Expand the "Expert Mode" in the modal dialog. If you want to debug web applications select "code isolation" and unselect all other options. A password dialog will appear and you must enter the credentials for the operating system user, not for the AS Java administrator.
One table column is labeled "Debug", there you can see the currrent debug port.
Either you start now a "Remote Java Application Debug" debug session or you have a Java EE project and can create a "SAP Application" debug session.
Anyway to see your application threads in the debugger you have to access your web application with a special debug URL.
If your URL looks like this: "http://localhost:50000/myapp" you have to insert a debug token beween host part and the path and the URL becomes "http://localhost:50000/@@@DEBUG@@@/myapp". If you miss to modify the URL you will not see any thread.
If you want to get a "normal" debug behaviour just deselect all options in the debug dialog. You will see all threads, you do not have to modify your URL, but the server will restart after you detached the debugger.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards, Stefan

Running Tomcat server in Debug mode?
Hi..
I am using Eclipse IDE to develop a Portal project.. I am also using Tomcat server for the same without using the default servers provided by eclipse..
My question is how do I run the Tomcat server in the "debug" mode?
Please help me..Take a look at these links: http://plato.acadiau.ca/courses/comp/dsilver/2513/EclipseAndTomcatTutorial/
http://www.keyboardsamurais.de/2004/01/15/tomcat_tutorial_helloworld_for_complete_fools_-_english/

I've found going through tutorials is a proven, quick way of getting up to speed with new tools and configurations.

Start Oracle Application Server in Debug mode
We have oracle application server 10g with oc4j. How do we configure App server to start in debug mode so remote debugging from different machine can be done.
I am new Oracle Application Sever. OC4j is java container and it starts automatical when ORacleAServer starts.
Thanks,
MSMadanShah, how did you start Oracle Application server? Let us say, you start it with opmnctl. In order to do java remote debugging with the oc4j process inside the OAS, you have to add the java remote debugging option to the "java-options" in the $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/config/opmn.xml.
<ias-component id="OC4J">
<process-type id="home" module-id="OC4J" status="enabled">
<module-data>
<category id="start-parameters">
<data id="java-options" value="-Xdebug -Xnoagent -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=5050 -Xrs -server -Djava.security.policy=$ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/home/config/java2.policy -Djava.awt.headless=true"/>
</category>
The "-Xdebug -Xnoagent -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=5050" is what I added. After starting OAS, you can connect to the oc4j process by selecting port 5050 using a java remote debugger that is included in any major IDE, like Jdeveloper. For more information, search for "remote debug" in the online help of Jdeveloper. -
Switching server to debug mode - need to do it twice
We have just completed a switch from BEA Workshop for Weblogic 10.0 to Eclipse 3.3 + Weblogic Server Tools 1.0.1.
There are couple issues that I'm not sure if they work as intended or they are bugs. This is the first one:
1. when server is started in a non-debug mode with an application deployed and then it is switched to the debug mode (by right clicking on the server and choosing debug) the debug mode doesnt seem to be properly activated. The application doesnt stop at the breakpoints.
2. after right clicking and choosing debug again the server gets fully restarted into the debug mode (in step 1 there is no full restart - similarly as it works in the Workshop). Now after the fiull restart the breakpoints work properly.
Is this by design? Is this 'quick debug mode switch' supposed to be working only in the Workshop? If yes can the first time click on debug actually initiate the whole server restart into the debug mode?
thank you
s.It sounds like you hit the following bug, which has been fixed in the code line currently under development (v1.1) and which is currently scheduled for release on October 2nd.

Server looses Debug mode after a restart
Hello,
At the NWDS there is an option to enable the Server debug mode. When I do that the server restarts and debug mode is on. The problem is that if I restart the server again it looses the debug mode and than I have to enable it again from the NWDS (Which, again, requires a restart). The same symptom is happen if I do the enable through the Config tool at the Debug tab.
Any idea why this happen?
RoyHey Shubhadip,
I think you misunderstood my problem: I did save it, otherwise how the debig mode will be on. The problem is that after ANOTHER restart (after the restart to enable the debug mode) it loses the debug mode again.
