SOAP Load Balancing

Is anyone using CSMs to load balance traffic based on SOAP envelope values to maintain session affinity?
Is it possible to feed the inspected value into a cookie/element that can be used in a sticky group? (I'm guessing insert header could help?)

Is is possible to load balance traffic based on SOAP using CSM's. But there is one thing which has to be taken care of.. Turn PMTUD off, in that case packets will get fragmented at upstream router and get sent to the client.

Please let me know where I can find more information regarding iPlanet usage/deployment/configuring/tuning etc for support of technologies - like EJB, JSP/servlets, JDBC, connection pooling, XML, load balancing, JDBC & Transactions
(I have already read the 'Getting Started with the iPlanet Application Server' part five and six - http://developer.iplanet.com/appserver/testdrive/partfive.jsp and partsix.jsp)(I am using the ias testdrive version).

    Hi,
It's difficult to explain unless the J2EE architecture is understood. Also, explaining things like load balancing, Transactions, tuning, are bit vague and could blow the disk space of this site.
To get started, the best way is to test the sample applications and the best part is you don't require internet connection to follow each steps. Install iWS and iAS, open browser, type in http://hostname:port/ias-samples/index.html. You can find links to the sample applications bundled. Please follow the steps given on deploying the application. This will enable you to a higher level.

  • Bpel cluster, soap adress in wsdl, soapSeverUrl, load balance - problem

    Hello,
I've installed bpel into cluster of two nodes with RAC repository db behind.
    I have followind problem ...
I want to loadbalance incomming requests.
    Configuration description:
One public IP > load balancer > ( node1) or (node2) with private IPs.
My expectation was that parameter soapServerUrl ( set to loadbalancer address)
ensures that the address of load balancer will be inside wsdl in soap:address.
The real world situation is other :-(
In bpel console > processes > process WSDL sheet, WSDL location - here is the correct soapServerUrl
but inside the wsdl there isn't. There is node address inside wsdl.
    So, was my expectation wrong?
If my expectation was wrong, is there any other solution?
How can I ensure that the address of loadbalancer will be inside the wsdl.

  • Adapter Engine Load balancing for Messages HTTP SOA/SOE

    Greetings all,
We are currently implementing our SOE/SOA solution utilizing SAP services between a .Net Application.  Basically .Net -> PI -> ECC and back.
We are load testing the system and are now experiencing the CI getting overloaded.
We have upped the Thread Count (Thread Manager 350 and System Threads 120) and the Queue thread from 5 to 20.
We are using SOAP with Principal Propagation.
There is a hardware load balancer we are using which can spread the load between multiple application servers.  We modified the SLDRegistration host and ports (http/https) in Visual Administrator (SAP XI AF CPA Cache) in the global server node.
In SXI_CACHE Got -> Adapter Engine Cache, it displays http://<sidms>:<port>/MessagingSystem/receive/AFW/XI
Is this where the load balancer should be placed with the port name?
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Could not retrieve Enterprise Global Template - Load balancer issue

    Hi,
We have 4 Project Server 2010 servers. The 4 web servers are load balanced by networking team with sticky session configured.
When we try to connect to the Project Server using MPP 2007 SP2, it fails saying 'Could not retrieve Enterprise Global template'. It works perfect when we point to a specific server by specifying the IP address for server name in the 'hosts'
    file.
Earlier we observed some errors in the event viewer related to the SharePoint's internal load balancer for which restarted the 'Project Server Application' on each web server and it got fixed.
Now, the only entries that we see related to load balancer are as mentioned below as Information (not errors).

Could the issue be due to network load balancer?
Could the issue be due to Sticky session configuration on the load balancer.?
How can we get to the root cause of the issue?
Which logging category should we set to 'Verbose' that can give us some hint.
Update: We tried to capture the requests through fiddler and observed that when fiddler is running on the client computer then the connection works perfectly fine even through the load balancer. Probably fiddler is reformatting the SOAP
envelop of the web service requests the way it should before sending the request to the server.
If we do not run fiddler and run some other similar tool (like Charles) then it again gives the issue and the request stucks at /PWA/_vti_bin/psi/winproj.asmx
We ran Wireshark on the servers and found the following for that web service call:
[TCP Previous segment not captured] Continuation or non-HTTP traffic.
Please let me know if someone could provide any hint what can be done next.
    Regards, Amit Gupta

There are several ways to configure your load balancer.   I would suggest that you work with the network engineer, the load balancer vendor and your project administrator to resolve this issue.
Basically you need URL to be resolved correctly.  Also, I don't believe PS2007 did a good job handling load balancing, so you may need to bring someone in good with IIS and see they can tweek IIS to manage the cache better.
As I go back and look at your analysis, I think you should probably look at upgrading to Project Server 2013.  They made some improvement in load balancing and the management of distributive cache.
I assume you have 4 WFE because you have thousands of project users.  Roughly how many  you have?  Over 1000, over 5000
Have you tried to see if using two load balancing work?  How about just one front end.  I often see companies scaling SharePoint and Project server to extremes.

  • Load balancing for webservices

I have a webservice I'd like to run from a cluster for scaling purposes. I dont
see a way to load balance a SOAP based webservice on the server. What (among

              Thanks

The webservice is a web application. You should be able to cluster it
like any other web application. If you've implemented your service as a
Statless Session Bean then you should be able to cluster it just like
any other Stateless Session Bean. That is there's really no difference
when it comes to physical implementation of a web service

  • Database Native web services - load balancing,  Instrumentation , security

    Hello –
I’m proposing use of Database Native web service in our company. Our architects are asking following questions so appreciate your help
    a.     How do you load balance across the DB WS (is there a way to use the F5 to detect downtime and balance the load across the DB servers)? We will be using RAC configuration with 3 nodes.
    b.     Our architect have security concern as user id/password information are in the web service URL, which may prove to be an issue. Is there a way to mitigate this risk?
    c.     Instrumentation in this approach (db native services) is questionable due to development/auto gen of the service logic from the DB itself. We may investigate wrapping the services with OSB to give us an additional instrumentation, policy enforcement, endpoint mediation and security proxy. Thoughts??
    d.     Architect are curious regarding any potential performance issues this may have on the DB server.
    Thanks

    Hi
We've recently begun using Native Web Services, intending to roll out this approach across the enterprise, but we've encountered 2 significant problems so far, which you may want to consider before proceeding ...
    1. NWS returns an exception if the underlying PL/SQL returns a null value - even if the PL/SQL has completed successfully, and null is a legitimate return value (see SR 3-6201969101 - it contains simple instructions to recreate the problem)
(I raised it in this forum but there were no replies - SOAP Fault when returning null from a Native Web Service Stored Procedure
    2. The sequence of values returned in the NWS response message is the opposite to the sequence declared in the auto-generated wsdl - i.e. schema validation will fail (see SR 3-6209016991 - it also contains simple instructions to replicate)
We have coded a workaround for problem 1. where we return <EMPTY> in place of null, and check for it in the client, but without proper resolution we're not prepared to use NWS elsewhere
As a workaround for problem 2. we removed schema validation, again not ideal
Both SRs were escalated 9 days ago, but are still outstanding
Incidentally our database is 11.2.0.1, but I've tested on 11.2.0.3 and both problems are still present
We also wrap the NWS services using an OSB Proxy Service, and came across the same security issue that you describe (b) - to provide the credentials required for the NWS, simply create a Service Account (containing the credentials) inside OSB and attach it to the Business Service which invokes the NWS (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17904_01/doc.1111/e15867/service_accounts.htm)

  • Load balancing in OC4J

I have a configuration where I can see in the EM two instances of the xmlpserver (I am not sure how this was done).
Is there load balancing in OC4J itself, where a request would be directed to either instance? If this is happening, then I assume that session affinity is maintained by cookies.
The problem that I am having is that I am using a SOAP Client to access the services available from xmlpserver. The client does not support cookies so when I make a call to login, I get back a token in the response and my subsequent calls should use that login. But What is happening is that the calls are alternating between the two instances and the calls are failing because the user session is not created in both instances.
Is there a configuration in OC4J to say that only a particular instance should always handle all the soap calls?
    Thanks

  • OSB Load Balancing

Is there any way to load balance a proxy service in OSB?
For my project, I have an http/wsdl based proxy service that is transforming a pretty large message and routing it to a business service based on a jca adapter. If I monitor my cluster(2 nodes and an admin server) during a load test through soap ui, I only see one of the nodes doing work. The other looks untouched. The url I am hitting is the load balancing url setup on the http tab of the cluster in the weblogic console.
In this doc it says that proxy services are pinned to a single managed server for polling service, but nothing about http:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13159_01/osb/docs10gr3/deploy/cluster.html
Is it possible to have the proxy service load balanced across multiple nodes, or is there some other method of doing this?
    Thanks for any help.

Please refer OSB Deployment Guide -
3.3.1 Load Balancing HTTP Functions in a Cluster
Web services (SOAP or XML over HTTP) can use HTTP load balancing. External load balancing can be accomplished through the WebLogic HttpClusterServlet, a WebServer plug-in, or a hardware router. For an overview of a cluster topology that includes load balancing, see Figure 5-1. Oracle WebLogic Server supports load balancing for HTTP session states and clustered objects. For more information, see "Communications in a Cluster" in Oracle Fusion Middleware Using Clusters for Oracle WebLogic Server.

  • Network Load Balance in BizTalk

    Hi All,
following is my senario, we have two biztalk nodes on same BizTalk Group, Group was configured on SQL-Cluster(Active-Pasive).
In my DNS, network administrator configured hardware NLB, and configured my BizTalk nodes IPs on NLB provided us load balancer IP.
my question is "Do I need to install and configure the windows network load balance on BizTalk both nodes with load balancer IP?". or simple create hosts and hostinstances for separete nodes?
I have to maintain load balance for following Adapters.
    HTTP(WCFBasicHTTP),SOAP, File, WCF-SQL.
    Please help me.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Teegala.
    Teegala

Since you have an external hardware NLB you DO NOT need to install Windows NLBS.
To get your HTTP/SOAP/WCF Receive Endpoints to get Load Balanced, you'd need to ensure that your IIS on BOTH the nodes is identically configured. On the BizTalk You need to have the same Receive Host Instances on BOTH the nodes. The external NLB would do
    the rest.

  • Load balance setting in AE

    Hi:
The XI prd has 2 servers with load balance via web dispatch. But in the engine status of component monitor,i find there is no messages in one of the server nodes at the tab "message overview"!
I did a test of sending about 3000 records from ECC(ABAP PROXY) to DB(JDBC) through XI.During its processing, both of the 2 server works well in SM51,so i think the IE works well with load balance!
But all of the records are processed by one server node in engine status, what can i do for the AE?
I did another test of sending data from third party sys(SOAP) to ECC(ABAP PROXY) through XI.The sender pushed data through port 8080.Both the IE and AE works well with load balance.
    regards
    Yu Ming

    Hi Ming,
you can check the IE load balancing in SM51 but not the AE load balancing. AE load balancing you can check in RWB.  check the below
    1) check in SXI_cache what the adapter engine URL is maintained in both application server(IE).
2)check the connectivty test between the web dispatcher to AE( in which message not visivle).
    3) ChecK the configuration between sap web dispatcher to AE.
    4) check the configuration and URL maintained in SLD

  • Biztalk: Server load balancing

    Hi,
We have 2 biztalk servers in the group. For past few days CPU usage on one server was comparatively very high as compared to other. First server was showing around 60% of CPU usage while second one was reporting 12 %.
Today I just started to stop every host instance on the first server in order to find out the process resulting in high |CPU usage. It came to BizApp.. Host assigned for processing orchestrations.
At first I could'nt understand the reason why first server was taking all the load while second one wsa comparatively free. But to my surprise once I restarted the host instance on first server, CPU usage dropped to 8% for the first one.
I could not understand the reason behind this? It would be really helpful if anybody can give me a clue about it.
    Thanks in advance.Shady

    Hi Shady,
How is your environment set up? I assume you have multiple hosts setup for receiving, sending and processing. Hosts running the receive handler for the HTTP,
SOAP, and BizTalk Message Queuing (MSMQT) adapters require a load-balancing mechanism such as Network Load Balancing (NLB) to provide high availability. Host cluster support is provided to support high availability for integrated BizTalk adapters that should not be run in multiple host instances simultaneously; such as the FTP receive handler or, under certain circumstances, the POP3 receive handler (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa560059(BTS.20).aspx). Everything else just do not require any additional clustering or load-balancing mechanism because BizTalk Server automatically distributes workload across multiple computers through host instances, unless you have made changes to hosts themselves (throttling) (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa559893(BTS.20).aspx).
