Software Update not expanding packages correctly
I've configured an OSX Server with Software Update. I've got a single client connected to the server via gig-E, the client is able to get the list of updates from the server but when I click "Install", SWUpdate on the client rapidly moves through each update without retrieving it, and reports "The Update [updatename] can't be installed. Software Update could not expand the package correctly."
The console reports this for each package:
"Software Update[195] session:product:061-2644 didFailWithError:NsError "Error SUSessionErrorDomain 2" Domain=SUSessionErrordomain Code=2 User Info={
Destination = "/private/var/tmp/folders.501/Cleanup At Startup/com.apple.softwareupdate.gC1t22/Chewable";
Path = "/Library/Caches/com.apple.softwareUpdate/[myservername]/061-2644/jpS6qV7B7blah blah/IMXCodec.tar" (or whatever .tar I was trying to update).
I tried it both on a local administator account and on a network user account, no luck.
Neither /private/var/tmp/folders.501 nor /Library/Caches/com.apple.softwareUpdate/[myservername]/ exists.
Where should I go from here? The same computer has no problems getting updates from Apple's server directly.
Hi Woody
How have you configured the Server? Is DNS running? Have you promoted the server to Open Directory Master? If you have used SoftwareUpdateEnabler have you configured it to use http://servername.domainname:8088/?
Verify that the updates are where they should be /usr/share/swupd/html. Simply getting info on this should yield about 8GB in size. It might be advisable to run fsck and repair priviliges and permissions. Is Software Update Service running? Dont believe the GUI.
On the server launch Terminal
su root (supply the password when prompted)
serveradmin status swupdate
If it says RUNNING, then stop it by issuing
serveradmin stop swupdate
serveradmin status swupdate
It should now say STOPPED. Now restart the service by issuing
httpd start
swupdctl start
serveradmin status swupdate
The service should now be running again. Go to Server Admin, click on Software Update and click Check Now. You may have to wait a while for the Server to check whats available on Apple’s downloads site. Once the spinning gearwheel has stopped, go to your client and select Software Update from the blue apple menu, what happens now?

Un-install according to the developer's un-install instructions.
You do not need to use cleaning programs. They can destroy your computer operation as they may already have done.
CleanMyMac - Uninstall
CleanMyMac2 Un-install
After un-installing, run this program to make sure you got all the pieces.
EasyFind – Spotlight Replacement
Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Mac Book Software Update not working (Software Update does not have any new software for your computer at this time), my current MacBook version is 10.5.8.
As a result I can't update iTunes, version 10.5.2 (This software requiers Mac OS X version 10.6.8 or later)
Now when I connect my iPhone 4, version iOS 6 iTunes can't connect to iPhone (The iPhone "XXXXX's iPhone" cannot be used because it requiers iTunes version 10.6.3 or later.)
so in a nutshell can't use iphone 4, because iTune is not updated and will not update because Mac Book is not up to date and will not update either.
Please help.
Thank you

Snow Leopard is a paid upgrade. http://support.apple.com/kb/sp575 Call Apple to buy Snow Leopard. Then, make a backup, insert the DVD and upgrade. When it finishes, open > Software Update -
Why is the software update not showing up in general settings?
Why does my software update not show up in general settings?
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 7.1.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.
You can no longer update to iOS 6.x, or down grade the iOS.

iOS: How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623
If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and antivirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 7.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.
How to Upgrade to iOS 7
The iOS 7.0 update requires around 2.5 GB of storage space, so if your iPad is almost full, you may need to clear up some space. You can check your available space in Settings -> General -> Usage.
There are two ways to upgrade to iOS 7: You can use your Wi-Fi connection, or you can connect your iPad to your PC and update through iTunes. We'll go over each method.
To upgrade using Wi-Fi:
Note: If your iPad's battery is under 50%, you will want to plug it into your charger while performing the update.
Go into the iPad's Settings.
Locate and tap "General" from the menu on the left.
The second option from the top is "Software Update". Tap this to move into the update settings.
Tap "Download and Install". This will start the upgrade, which will take several minutes and will reboot your iPad during the process. If the Download and Install button is grayed out, trying clearing up some space. The space required by the update is mostly temporary, so you should gain most of it back after iOS 7 is installed.
Once the update is installed, you may have to run through the initial steps of setting up your iPad again. This is to account for new features and settings.
To upgrade using iTunes:
First, connect your iPad to your PC or Mac using the cable provided when you purchased your device. This will allow iTunes to communicate with your iPad.
You will also need the latest version of iTunes. Don't worry, you will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch iTunes. Once it installs, you may be asked to setup iCloud by logging into your iTunes account. If you have a Mac, you may be prompted on whether or not you want to enable the Find my Mac feature.
Now you are ready to begin the process:
If you upgraded iTunes earlier, go ahead and launch it. (For many, it will launch automatically when you plug in your iPad.)
Once iTunes is launched, it should automatically detect that a new version of the operating system exists and prompt you to upgrade to it. Choose Cancel. Before updating, you will want to manually sync your iPad to make sure everything is up to date.
After canceling the dialog box, iTunes should automatically sync with your iPad.
If iTunes doesn't automatically sync, you can manually do it by selecting your iPad within iTunes, clicking on the File menu and choosing Sync iPad from the list.
After your iPad has been synced to iTunes, select your iPad within iTunes. You can find it on the left side menu under Devices.
From the iPad screen, click on the Update button.
After verifying that you want to update your iPad, the process will begin. It takes a few minutes to update the operating system during which time your iPad may reboot a few times.
After updating, you may be asked a few questions when your device finally boots back up. This is to account for new settings and features.

Software Update NOT WORKING (Snow Leopard)
Hi, I am currently using Snow Leopard 10.6 on my iMac. I opened iTunes and was told there was an update available so I clicked the button to download it. This obviously opened up the 'download' screen with blue bar. The blue bar does not move and the message comes up that the download failed. I have tried troubleshooting, but the message I get is that I am not connected to the internet - which I am.
Please help.Check your iTunes version, it's reporting v10.6.3 here on 10.6.8 and no updates required.
You should be able to download it from here

Software Update not working properly
Hi all,
I have been having problems with my Software Update in that I am getting an error message saying "Software Update could not expand the package correctly". This has most recently happened with iPod Updater 2006-03-23.
This is not much to go on, but do any of you have an idea as to what might be wrong?
Many thanks in anticipation.Hi Taylor L.
Thanks for the continued support and sorry for the delay in reply. As I said I am more than a bit inept on technical issues so I am afraid I have no idea how to repair my permissions.
Tried all the other fixes and no luck. I did try and run the update from the .pkg files in the trash folder (moved automatically by Updater when it did not work) and when it comes to selecting a destination the hard drive is nowhere to be found (i.e. there is no destination to select!). Here below are the lines from the Console since the last restart:

Software Update not working due to a "networking error"
Hopefully this post is in the correct forum. In trying to run Software Update, I am getting a networking error ("A networking error has occured: time out (-1001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again."). I can get on the network just fine via Firefox, and my Mobile Me account is syncing to my Address Book and iCal. However, Safari, Mail, and Software Update can't seem to connect. I ran Repair Permissions and Repair Disk (from the 10.5 Install disc), but these did not solve the problem. I also downloaded and ran the 10.5.4 Combo; it appeared to run fine. But subsequently running the Security Update 2008-005 and trying to reinstall Safari failed (both directly downloaded from Apple). Security Update won't let me select the computer hard drive, and Safari tells me that OS 10.5.2 or higher is required (even though I have 10.5.4 installed). I also tried running Software Update from other profiles on the computer to no avail.
Any thoughts as to what is going on here? I'd prefer not to have to reinstall the OS from scratch, but I'm running out of ideas.
Thanks!Select the clone tool and try a tool re-set.

Maverick 10.9.5 Software Update not being listed for clients
I have Software Update and Caching enabled on an OSX 10.9.5 machine. It has downloaded the 10.9.5 update, but when I run software update on our client computers, the update isn't being shown. I'm feeling like none of the updates are being shown, not just this one. I've pointed the software update preference file to the server correctly and reset it by deleting it, but nothing has worked. I feel like it's server side. Our other clients that aren't pointed to this server can see the update.
What can I look at on the Server to try and diagnose this problem?
ThanksNevermind. The port was wrong in Profile Manager.

Software Updater- Not connected to the internet
I have recently downgraded from a Cable modem to a wi-fi using Globetroter Connect and the AT&T 3G network. Now when I run Software update - I get a message that I am not connected to the internet - even tho I am running Netscape in the background. (I have tried both running netscape and not runing netscape so that's not the issue) I have browsed through old posts on this topic and can't seem to find help.
thanks in advance
RobbyIf other OS X internet dependent items do not work of don't work well
now that you've changed some system settings (or should have) in
order to use a new internet provider and other hardware, you may
have to change system settings. A non-Apple browser can use its
own settings and find an internet connection in your Mac. Other
parts of the system may not find the internet directly if a change
was made to your computer's settings or the hardware attached.
In some cases, a Mac owner may find Safari won't work; FireFox
will; and to the same web pages, the results will differ. Or other
internet dependent items such as certain live widgets can't find
the internet if they rely on other system settings not set correctly.
So, this means there much be some location setting, or some
old proxy, or perhaps a firewall setting or other block; maybe
even one part of the Network settings is correct in general
while another is not. Even improper DNS or other numbers
may be a partial reason for something halfway working.
If you get different results or none at all from native Mac OS X
internet dependent applications or utilities, then the settings
or location, or other network, or system pref setting, etc are in
need of review and some changes need to be tried.
Have you tried other user accounts to see if the system's own
reliance on the internet settings in System Preferences Network
and other basics still work (or don't) thereby narrowing the issue?
The kind of problem you've cited has other parallel causes under
different topics online; I have read about, but not experienced them.
Good luck & happy computing! -
Software Updates Not working...
I've recently started using macs (circa 2007) since intel started providing processors. This summer, I purchased an old (very) Power Mac G4 450mhz... now I have tiger running on it very nicely. However, I'm using an i.Tech Bluetooth V1.2 USB dongle to connect my wireless apple keyboard and mouse. All's well and good... till...
I boot in Mac OS 9, which I need to use because I have a very old software package that helps me with scientific calculations relating to enzyme Kinetics... but for me to boot into os 9 i need to connect a USB keyboard and mouse. This is because I don't have OS 9 drivers for the i.tech dongle.
Now another problem - when in OS 9 I cannot do software updates, and when I connect the USB bluetooth dongle it requests to connect to the internet to find software to make the dongle work... when I run either a software update, or connect a new device and Mac OS 9 requests to hunt for drivers online i'm given the following message:
"Software update is not able to connect to the Internet. Please check your configuration and try again"
I only have this problem when using OS 9's software update facility... web browsing is fine.
I was wondering if anyone knew how i could fix this software update issue? (is apple even running the OS 9 update servers...?) And also, does anyone know if the iTech USB V1.2 Bluetooth dongle work in OS 9?
Thank you soooo muchAlthough you're right, it does relate to OS X, I thought i'd check it out anway. It states the issue may be a problem due to being connected via a proxy...
I'm just on a basic network - my cable modem is connected to a router, and my mac connected to the router..
Thanks for your help anyway
Hopefully someone else can shed some light... -

SharePoint Server 2013 farm software updates not available in SCCM
At my current customer, we are currently switching over to SCCM for all Software Update Management.
For now, the only issue we are experiencing is that we do not receive SharePoint updates on our SharePoint Server 2013 farm. With WSUS we can detect these, but they are not listed in SCCM. We sync directly with Windows Update.
It are specifically the updates that are marked as "farm-deployment", as you can see in example in this image.:
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gI8Ew7RlY0g/VPqM0QUn6oI/AAAAAAAAIDQ/S1Ufp0x-mSU/s1600/windows%2Bupdate%2Bincludes%2Bsharepoint%2B2013%2Bpatches.png
In the SUP properties, we have enabled the Office 2013 product and all classifications besides "Tools".
Am I missing something?I could see these SharePoint updates in my SCCM console.
N.B. the question was about "farm-deployment" updates specifically.
Can you please post a screen-shot showing these updates in the SCCM-console?
