Software Vendors screw their customers and the country w/ licensing schemes

So AppForge and XtendConnect got bought out and the customers are again left customers holding the bag. Now we have IT solutions that would work in a technical sense but will soon fail because of licensing difficulties. The real problem here is, our business got sucked into actually depending upon technology. We continue to allow vendors to write the rules in their favor and at our expense. Licensing does nothing for me, the customer, but thanks for offering. No such choice, however!
Yet another risk of using COTS over internal development. These various licensing schemes only serve the vendors and leave their customers to clean up the mess once the vendor sells out. Imagine a world once the crack-pot vision of SOA is implemented. Any complex system will depend on a host of services owned by a variety of vendors spread across geography, each going belly-up or merging with another vendor, or constantly changing its licensing arrangements in a constant chase for the next buck. Nothing will ever work again for anyone two days in a row. It is already a monumental task keeping up with all the various licensing arrangements and renewals even on a good day.
Imagine the day your car won't even start because the license expired for the electronic ignition. Will you have to junk your car? This is not far fetched! I have a true story about an HVAC company down the road that had to scrap its entire manufacturing facility because the software used to run it expired and the software company went belly up. Too expensive to write their own software. Not very "green" either. Thank goodness our mechanical and electronic engineers (true engineers) did not do this to the country. It took short-sighted software vendors to bring us down.
Where have all the CIO's gone in all this? This is an important subject to address that effects all major corporations and Gov't. Likely, to their next higher paycheck. Actually doing something about a problem is so "last century". They much prefer the next shiny new widget and a quick path to their next paycheck. We in the trenches who actually have to do work always have to clean up their mess.
Perhaps customers need to unite and fight back against this trend and force vendors to no longer put their entire IT infrastructure investment and mission critical applications at peril. We need to twist the arms of our CIOs and management to actually do something for a change. No one should be able to have their cake and eat it too. Vendors should be allowed to protect their product but the customers should be allowed to protect their businesses and our government functions that their products were aquired to support.

    Today, my FCC complaint hit the same person working on the BBB complaint.  Jimmie has been very nice and seems willing to work with this problem.  We have been able to come to an agreement.  I paid the purchase price for the phone and he returned my upgrade and unlimited data plan.  This is what would have occurred if Verizon had given me correct information to begin with.  I am happy with this result.  He also brought quite a few instances concerning the handling of my transfer and upgrade that did not follow proper procedure.  I am also confident that I would not have resolved this without complaining to BBB and or FCC.  Verizon had no interest in solving the problem nor did they show any propensity to keeping a 20 year client.  Even though this last CSR was very polite and helpful, his sole job is to respond to formal Federal and State complaints.  He is required by law to address every complaint and report the reporting agency the agreed upon results - good or bad.  Again, I suggest - If you are not getting the proper customer service, complain to someone outside of Verizon.  Jimmie had not received any complaints registered with Verizon directly and I still have not had any contact with any other management representative that I was told would call.

    I have spent hours on two phone calls and a chat session regarding a billing discrepancy that is THE FAULT OF VERIZON and still no final resolution.  My bill is due in 3 days and I want this resolved now because I don't want to not pay a bill on time because it won't be corrected in time and then my credit rating will fall due to THE FAULT OF VERIZON.  I have been working on this problem for OVER TWO WEEKS and TWICE have been told that it was all set and that billing was being told to credit my account, yet STILL NO CREDIT HAS HAPPENED.  One rep gave me his email address so that I could follow up with him in case something went wrong with the credit.  I have emailed him and GUESS WHAT?  NO RESPONSE.  I have been a loyal Verizon customer for over 15 years with all bills always PAID ON TIME and THIS IS HOW I GET TREATED??   NOT FAIR.  This is so unlike me to write something like this in a forum, but I have had it after receiving THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER.  WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO NOW TO GET HELP?  Is no one at Verizon support HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR VERIZON MISTAKES??  A VERIZON representative listened to what I needed for business travel and they gave me the added feature that they assured me would be what I needed, and apparently it wasn't right. Is it my fault that a Verizon representative does not know the right answers to how their features work and now I am expected to pay OVER $300 EXTRA BECAUSE OF THEIR MISTAKE?  When I take the advice of a Verizon rep I expect they know what they are talking about and that the advice is accurate.  APPARENTLY THIS ISN'T TRUE.

    After ANOTHER call I may be on track to resolving this.  But WHY did it have to take several calls and chats over a two week period?  WHY did I have to become a mean person to the representative on the phone to finally get this (partially) straightened out?  Why does it need to come to that?  I really don't want to have to get mean and get myself worked up just to get a billing problem straightened out that is VERIZON'S fault.
    Verizon, please consider looking into your lack of proper customer support and make corrections.  Even though this may be resolved, After 15 years of being a Verizon customer I will be considering another carrier when my contract runs out and all due to this horrible customer service experience.

  • Hi Apple - Surely with the internet being global you can let "customers" select the country they dsownload from.  I was goung to use Itunes but having tried twice to get UK downloads in Spain have given up on Itunes.  How many others have.

    I would really like Apple to take notice of the number of "customers" who want to download in their own language, not the language of the country they are in.
    My Laptop was bought in England and my internet is an English provider.  My bank account is in England.  I happen to live in Spain. So why can't I download from an English Itune Store.  I have not had this problem wih any other free App or webb based account, and I have many. 
    I have seen lots of posts saying it can't be done but Apple please pleae tell me why.
    Apple must be loosing out on thousands of customers and heaven knows how much revenue.
    Come on everyone get all your friends who have the same problem to let Apple know.

  • What does iTunes FORCE YOU to download the last version of their software to use their store? The new program is too much for my computer!

    This totally *****...iTunes 10 is too much of a memory hog for my POS computer. I have to turn off all other apps just to use it and even then it still runs SLOW. I think iTunes = Extorition. Why force us to use it? They just want to track your personal data. That's pretty evil. The best iTunes version for my computer was iTunes 7. But it won't let me use store on iTunes 7. F@#$*%s!
    Instead of making the program more streamlined, they make the next version LARGER FILE SIZE and more of a memory hog. 
    Apple should be making each successive version a SMALL FILE SIZE and less of a drain on memory.

    Still even with that the last few updates of Linux have been a bit rough for those old machines, but for the net that's good enough.

    i am trying to update the software on my ipad from 4.2 to 4.3.3 but i cannot get it to download. I get an error message that says the software was unable to download because the network timed out.  I have tried to download it 7 or 8 different times and still get the same message.  I cannot restore the factory settings either.  The same thing happens.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  It did this when trying to update to 4.2.  I don't remember how we were able to get the software to update.  Thanks.

    Then try this now.
    Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

    I have the Iphone 4 gsm model 8GB, and I have had many of them. New, and Refurbished.  Performance is all the same.
    I am willing to pay Apple for a Downgrade in IOS versions, and I know shsh blobs are required, but I understand that Apple has technology that can do many things with their products. I am no fool, and am only requesting something so simple. 

    Downgrading of any version of iOS isn't supported by Apple at all. If you search the web, you'll find instructions that may work, but you're on your own should any problems arise. For many people it goes without problems, but for some it's reportedly bricked their devices.

    I was updating the software on my iPad2 and while trying to multitask stopped the update process.  My iPad is now locked up and unresponsive.  Does anyone have ideas about how to re-load the update?

    You will need to hold down the power + sleep button, wait for restart, then hold home.  iTunes should then be in DFU mode.  Once in DFU mode connect to iTunes and click "Restore".  PRESTO!

    These payment terms are given at the time of entering vendor line item and expense line items. Hence the to view payment terms in GL line item (or GL account)  is not possible.
    You can view it in vendor line item
    One work around is to fill payment terms in assignment field / reference field / etc. Then you can see it in GL line item (GL account).

    We are going for one company live. We are not taking HR module as of now.
    We are creating employee as a vendor for all employees with outstanding loans and advances.
    Now while uploading initial data for these employee (created as vendor), business wants personal loan outstanding balances employee as a vendor wise.
    Generally in case of normal vendor, we treat like
    Vendor A/C Dr
    to takeover creditors a/C  Cr
    while going for initial upload.
    In above case what should we do if we want outstanding balances (personal loan) while initial balance upload?

    Hi,
    You can create a separate employee vendor for Advances paid to them with an assignment to a separate recon account titled as Advance to Employees. Later, you can upload the entries by Debiting the Employee Advance Vendor account and crediting Vendor Upload Account.
    Advances paid to employees (recon account) will represent in the TB as a separate line item forming an MIS.
