Solaris 10 x86 & 2 x NIC. Can some1 pls have a look if i do all correctly?

i have a server with two NICs and Solaris 10 x86
installed.
i want to use NIC1 with ADSL router (10.0.0.x) and
NIC2 with switch (192.168.16.x). i also want to setup
a DHCP server for LAN machines (NIC2) and DNS
server.
can someone pls confirm/correct my thoughts/steps in
configuring two interfaces?
1. during install i had to chose a default route for
both interfaces. for NIC1 it was easy - i just
entered the ADSL router IP which was 10.0.0.1.
however, i have a difficulty with NIC2. what default
route if at all should i use here?You don't choose a default route for an interface, you choose a default route for a system. It isn't very useful to have multiple default routes for one machine. You will presumably want your default route to point to the internet-facing router.
2. my understanding is that after configuring two
interfaces they should act as a bridgeNo. You can use 'routeadm' on recent releases to configure routing. Otherwise, you need correct routing tables and make sure IP forwarding is enabled.

reach LAN machines (mail, web servers, etc). is that
correct or will i need to setup and configure 2 DNS
servers for each NIC respectively?Unless your ADSL router understands the routes behind the solaris machine (it almost certainly doesn't), it will never send traffic there. Instead, you would have to run a NAT setup on the machine. ipfilter/ipnat can be used to do that.
3. DHCP server. any guidance here in terms of two
NICs machine?Should be no issues. Just create a scope for the 192.x subnet. If you're using the Solaris DHCP server, you can create a file which prevents it from listening on the other interface, but that's not required.

Hey guys, I've been trying to save my mac from this constant lag for the past few days to no avail. I've been reading the forums and trying to figure this out myself but I haven't been able to reach a solution so here I am. I've done a clean reinstall. I've run disk permissions and repaired the disk. I've reset PRAM. I don't have FileVault running. I am constantly getting rainbow wheel, even as I'm typing this question out. Applications freeze in their own windows, for example, Chrome will freeze but I will still be able to move over to another application like safari and use safari. It's practically impossible to run any kind media because it stutters constantly. Any and all help is welcome, thanks in advance.
Problem description:

It's been a few days since my last post, i've tried uninstalling chrome and adobe flash but my mac is the same. My problems have actually grown. Now my mac is heating up even when the lid is down and the computer is sleeping. The battery has also begun to drain very quickly. Any suggestions? solutions? Hello guys,
I am writing a small script which has to do the following:
1. It should run without any interruption. (Therefore while [ 1 ])
2. While working continuously, it should check whether a folder named "check" is available in the folder "/home/arch".
3. If it is the case, it should execute the script /home/arch/shutdownServer1
The bash script I am trying to execute is the following:

if [$(ls /home/arch | grep check)="check"]; then
/home/arch/shutdownServer1

I tried to execute the code while the folder named "check" was available in the folder "/home/arch" But I got the following error.
/home/arch/myscript: line 5: [check=check]: command not found => This implies that the expression "$(ls /home/arch | grep check)" was evaluated correctly because of check=check. But why does it say "command not found"? Since check=check it should be evaluated as true and execute the script shutdownServer1?
P.S.: myscript is the name of the bash script file.

No /dev/lp? on COMPAQ Proliant ML370 with Solaris 8 x86 10/00

I have a problem about the /dev/lp? port in Solaris 8 x86 with COMPAQ Proliant ML370. I have seen in the boot interpreter it has detected a parallel port
device isa/lp@1...., but after I boot -r to start Solaris 8
OS it don't make any /dev/lp? or /devices/isa/lp*... and if
I mknod /dev/lp? myself it cannot print out ( I use cat /etc/hosts >> /dev/lp1, /dev/lp1 major=83 minor=1 ) It say "cannot create". I wonder why this happens, If I install this Solaris 8 x86 on other PC model. It has /dev/lp1 and can print out successfully. I try many ways such as: upgrade latest ROMPAQ BIOS firmware,
install lp driver patch set, install acpi patch. But still don't work. I found that serial ports (asy) which are ACPI is working because I can redirect console to serial port (asy).
Do anyone have the idea to solve or track down this problems. Thanks a lot...

How do you do frame (sequence) grabbing from Firewire (IEEE 1394) camera on Solaris 10 x86? What API can I use?
XIL documentation doesn't seem to mention Firewire cameras specifically. And I tried to compile Linux libdc1394 on Solaris 10 x86, but got errors.

I'm stuck in the middle of installation, I've tried to perform installation in offline mode, I've reached to the point where I've downloaded successfully the agent software but when I try to do "emcli get_supported_platforms" I don't get the Solaris 10 x86 64 platform.

4) go to the slef update see the agent bianries - apply them
5) push the agent
In which step are u ? and when are you runing the emcli get_supported_platforms ?

mysite.com. IN SOA hostname.mysite.com. admin.mysite.com. (1; 3h; 1h; 1w; 1h)
is it the name of my network interface ?

ok, it looks like..
now to configure the MX record shall i point it to m0.mysite.com?
the thing is: i actually don't quite understand what is hostname (network interface) and host of my domain. in windows i came from there was a computer name (any name for local network use) , but i never used it in MS Exchange. i used to have an MX record pointing to mail.mysite.com, but in fact the machine's name was M0.
will highly appreciate some insight on this subject.

After installed Solaris 10 X86 I CAN'T SEE GUI

Hi,
I have installed Solaris 10 X86. while installing the software from the CD
I got a nice GUI . After install all 5 CD and reboot I got a choice to boot into Solaris or WIndows, I chose Solaris and wait to loads the GUI but I got only black screen and a monitor message saying the Frequency is low. I got only # prompt .
run search forums about gui problem and no find specific help.
run kdmconfig and change to Xsun, it's not solve the problem.
I CAN'T SEE GUI.
Do i need run any command or install any other program ?

try to run #kdmconfig at ur promt , it will ask u to set new gui settings
select ur appropriate vga card , which is being supported ny ur os , n make a logoff , automatically it will drop u on a gui screen to make a login
or u can use #/usr/X11/bin/xorgconfig to define all the new settings from the scratch , i think it should help u out

How can i Install Liquid data 1.0 on Solaris 10(x86) Machine

I have installed Weblogic 8.1 SP2 on a Solaris 10 x86 Intel Architecture platform. Now I am trying to have BEA Liquid Data for WebLogic 8.1 SP2 also installed on this machine. I couldnot find Liquid Data for WebLogic 8.1 SP2 for Solaris 10, although there seems to be one available for Sun Solaris (8,9,32 bit).
Q1) I understand these are for SPARC and not x86 IA platform is that correct?
When i try to use this above file version to install on Solaris 10 i get the following error.

It is not supported on Solaris running on Intel.
btw - AquaLogic DSP (aka LD8.5) is the current version. It is not supported on Solaris running on Intel, either.

Solaris 10 x86 DL-360 How to make additional NICS Show.

Installing Solaris 10 x86 on a DL-360 with 4 NIC's. The server comes normally with 2 built in.
The first was seen fine..

When I tried to use the 2nd one, bge1, I had to plumb it first.
ifconfig bge1 plumbNo problem...
Now I need to use the 3rd port but the same command is not working.
I would assume that it would be bge2 ??

If I understand you correctly, you have two gigabit Ethernet ports as a part of your computer's systemboard, and you have two more Ethernet ports because there are add-in card or cards.
The bge device name is a result of the particular chipset circuitry
and is not a generic term for just any old network port.
It is a name derived from a BroadCom Gigabit Ethernet chipset.
So ... who created the chipsets for the 3rd and 4th network ports?
ipbr is an example from Intel.
le was a common Lowspeed Ethernet (10mbit) circuit in Sun systems in the last century.
hme was a common integrated Highspeed Media Ethernet interface (10/100mbit) on Sun systemboards.
eri is a common Ethernet Rio Interface (10/100) on newer Sun systemboards.
elx is a name associated with 3COM EtherLink chipsets.
dnet is an interface from the DEC21x4x chipsets and could be 10mbit or 10/100mbit adapters per whichever DEC chip was used.
You're going to have to determine what you actually have, confirm you have the appropriate software packages for that hardware, and then you may have a chance to plumb them.

Solaris mirroring can some1 explain to ex-Windows guy how to get that done?

i looked through the forum and have seen some advices but am not very comfortable with sending commands i know nothing about.
can someone pls break it down to exact steps needed to mirror a drive in x86 box please? i failed to achieve anything with SVC utility as i don't know what to choose on those so called wizard screens - they are not intuitive for someone coming from windows platform or maybe its just me.
i have two identical 147GB drives in x86 machine. Solaris 10 downloaded and installed on one of them few days ago.

In my case the following are output of format command. Do the "format"to identify the disks in your system and replace disks in the steps with the help of that output.

Please folllow the below steps for mirroring.
1) Important precaution:
Copy /etc/vfstab and /etc/system
cp -p /etc/system /etc/system.orig
cp -p /etc/vfstab /etc/vfstab.orig
2) Create a small slice of 25 Mbyte (10 Mbyte is also fine) for storing volume databases on the "rootdisk" and label the disk.
Take slice 7
using format command ( Please let me know if you need more explanation)
3) The VTOC (volume table of contents) on the root disk and root mirror must be the same. Copy the VTOC using prtvtoc and fmthard.
# prtvtoc /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s2 | fmthard -s - /dev/rdsk/c1t1d0s2
5) Create metadatabases on the small slice created on rootdisk:
# metadb -f -a -c3 /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s7
# metadb -a -c3 /dev/dsk/c1t1d0s7
6) Now we can create a mirror for each and every slice in the partition table.
For root or / partition:
# metainit -f d10 1 1 /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0
# metainit d20 1 1 /dev/dsk/ c1t1d0s0
(create a md d0 and attach one submirror)
# metainit d0 -m d10
(set up system files for root (/) metadevice, that is,
changes to /etc/system and /etc/vfstab)
# metaroot d0
# lockfs -fa (clear improper file locks on all mounted UFS file systems)
7) Naming convention for other metadisks follow. (Note for those who are new to this software: We will not do metaroot and lockfs steps on other file systems.) The submirrors will be named d10, d20, and so on.
In d10, 1 is the submirror number, and 0 is the slice number.
If we have swap on partition/slice 1, we would do this:
# metainit -f d11 1 1 /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s1
# metainit d21 1 1 /dev/dsk/c1t1d0s1
# metainit d1 -m d11
For /var
# metainit -f d12 1 1 /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s3
# metainit d22 1 1 /dev/dsk/c1t1d0s3
# metainit d2 -m d12
8) Repeat for as many file systems you have on your boot disk.
9) Make changes to your /etc/vfstab. The md entry for root will already be updated by the metaroot command.
A sample copy of /etc/vfstab looks like this:

fd - /dev/fd fd - no -
/proc - /proc proc - no -

swap - /tmp tmpfs - yes -
10) Configure your dump device using dumpadm.
11) Make the following entry in the /etc/system file, in the mdd info section:
set md:mirrored_root_flag=1
12) Execute:
sync; sync; init 6
13) Once the system comes up, attach the other submirror:
# metattach d0 d20
(Note: It's "metattach" and not "metaattach")
# metattach d1 d21
# metattach d1 d22
14) To see whether the FS syncing is done or not, do this:
metastat | grep progress
Once syncing is finished,please reboot the machine once more. Now the disks will be mirrored.
