Solaris 7 on Toshiba 8100 notebook ?

Hi,
Has anyone has the experience of installing solaris 7 on Toshiba 8100 laptop? or knows anywhere can download the driver for that model? My problem is solaris always say unknow monitor type when installing and I can not find the monitor type from the existing monitor list.
Any advice will be appreciated.

I have Toshiba Tecra 8100 with RedHat 6.2 installed.
I wouldn't try to get Solaris 7-8 running there though.
Toshiba Tecra 8100 has an S3 Savage MX / 8Mb card
(a crapy one, ATI were much better in 8000 series)
You don't have to run X Windows in installation just
run install in text mode (which is avialable).
After install completed, go to -s mode and remove /etc/rc3.d/S9?dtlogin. You'll have a working Solaris at
that point.
Then you have 2 options: first get XFree86 running
and grab configs from Linux on Laptops page for
S3 Savage MX; second option is to purchase Accelerated X
server for Solaris from www.xig.com (150$). They support
S3 Savage. (I personaly would go with Accelerated X option).

  • Keyboard input stopped working on Solaris 11 Live x86 Toshiba R835 Notebook

I can boot, and keyboard input works for login, but does not work for xterm, terminal, Firefox, ... Mouse works for gparted and apps. It did work for 8 hrs but stopped. Any suggestions ?

I would be googling for that. E.g. see thread.
So did you update xkeyboard-config? It's tedious that you haven't had the sense yet to list which packages got updated, along with version numbers.
It's nice to see you enter here, brebs!
    A few things have happened:
I just noticed that the file '/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc' isn't present at all! It was present when I posted the thread (I think). So X didn't even start. I had to create .xinitrc in my home directory with single like 'exec xterm'. X started fine but keyboard still didn't work.
Out of nowhere, I thought of using nouveau drivers instead of Nvidia drivers. So I went ahead and switched to nouveau and bam - keyboard is working. Enabled GDM and keyboard is still working. I still would like know what went wrong with Nvidia - for educational purposes.
What more details should I provide? I'd like to have Nvidia drivers back.

  • Solaris @ Compiz on a notebook with Intel 945GM

I have successfully installed OpenSolaris nv91 on Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pi1505. Next I have enabled 3D effects, i.e. desktop on a cube and windows wobbling. It worked perfectly, but...the input from the keyboard has been blocked. In order to regain the possibility for normal work I have disabled 3D effects. Is there any patch or the hope that future release will work correctly? By the way - graphic system of this notebook is based on Intel's 945GM chipset.

  • Will Memory upgrade make difference in performance of Toshiba NB notebook?

WILL IT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE TO PERFORMANCE IF I UPGRADE NY NOTEBOOK FROM 1GB TO 2 GB?

If you have XP and an efficient Virus Scanner (I recommend Avira), 1GB should be fine for light usage (internet, email etc..). 2GB will help if you have many apps open at once.
If you have Win7, 2GB is highly recommended. I doubt one 4GB Module will work on an Atom CPU, check compatibility first. Remember there is only one RAM Slot in the NB series.

  • SAT II 2.5" Solid State Drive installed in my Toshiba U200 Notebook won't bootup

I want to install my SSD in my laptop.  Actually, I already have.  First, I cloned the old HDD, using Acronis Migrate Easy 7.  I also used a USB enclosure to do the cloning.  As far as I can tell, I have a perfect clone of the old drive on the new drive.  My problem is that the laptop will not bootup with the new SSD.  I get error msg: a disk read error occurred.  Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.  I looked in the bios (system setup) and see the Built-in HDD = Primary IDE(IFQH/IRQ14).  Can this setting be changed?  How do you access it.  What I really want to know is did I make a mistake in buying this drive for my old U200?  Thanks, stanthemanc

You sound like a couple other threads and people.
The power management in the 2008. 10.8.2 trouble but 8.3 seems okay.
SSDs always take special care and instructions for handling.
You do not want to try do you realize that "Open Firmware" died with PowerMacs and you are on EFI? Actually yours got the first taste of UEFI / EFI64 which is of itself enough "off" the standard that it should have been updated if possible, is not blessed certifed by Apple and Microsoft for UEFI under Windows.
And you have two PCIe 2.x slots and two that are 1.1 slots. Which makes for issues too.
Things that may be issue and not obvious:
    PRAM battery
    Keyboard or its cable
    any and all external devices
    PCIe cards
Your video card (which is not listed)
    Faulty FBDIMM(s)
The fact 10.8 runs on other hardware has no bearing on how well it was tested and implemented on Early 2008 which are entirely different hardware, firmware, processors, etc.
I saw one person that the front fan had so much dust it was not cooling the system down.
Which leads to: what are you using to monitor system thermal sensor temp readings?
And, please do (on a new fresh clean install of Mac OS) uses SmcFanControl 2.4+
I would hope you kept 10.6.8 and can dual boot, but otherwise, create one for now for testing, some of your reading should have come up with those where it works with SL and had issues with ML (and Lion).
The lack of Rosetta. The need to do a clean install of ML rather than update to new OS over SL (and carry around old stuff for years and multiple OS's).
Sometimes the best test for RAM is to replace with known good new set ($31 Amazon).
Don't rule out video card, especially if it is still the OEM 2600XT or 8800GT.

I've got a SATA drive (NTFS) in a 3rd party enclosure that will support eSATA and usb2. Drive works fine on PC (usb 1.1 also) but will not mount on iBook G3 w/ 10.4.10. Just clicks. I only want to access files. Any ideas???

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
I don't know anything about Windows, but from _this Wikipedia article_, it sounds like it may need the _NTFS-3G Driver_ in order to work with Mac OS X?

  • Dell Inspiron 8100 with W2K installed

    Dear all:
I've just bought a new Dell Inspiron 8100 notebook with W2k installed. I configure the HD in a way that there is 6G space left unallocated and unformatted. Initially I plan to install solaris on that space. However when I search in this board I found many issues about Solaris install, not to mention for those notebooks.
Well, I'm still in hope, has anyone ever successfully installed Solaris 8.0 on same platform? Or can suggest me a backup plan before I give it a try. Anyway, I won't like to waste $45 once I buy one.
    thanks,
    -Jun

One workaround I have seen for laptop keyboards not funtioning correctly during install it to connect a USB keyboard to the system. I cannot guarantee it will work on this particular system, but its worth a try.

  • Toshiba 46TL938: Choppy 3D playback when PC-to-TV through HDMI

    Hello,
I got a very specific problem and cannot spot exactly where the problem may be. In brief:
    - I got a 3D movie which is played back through VLC but also KMplayer.
    - On my 23" monitor 1080p through HDMI the movie plays pretty well and smooth.
    - On my Toshiba 46" HDTV the playback on 3D lags sometimes, exactly the same when a computer cannot handle the load and lags on video playback.
-I tried to put the movie on a USB flash and connect it to the TV. Then the playback of the 3D on the TV was really smooth without any lag.
So facts are the frames work well on a HD 23" monitor (playedback with VLC & KMplayer), but also run smooth on my notebooks monitor.
Fact is also that the same movie plays smooth from a USB flash connected on the TV.
I tried with another movie (non 3D) to stream it from my notebook through HDMI on my TV. It worked pretty well without any lag.
    1) So my main question is if the movie is not ok, why does it play back correct through a USB but not through my notebook.
    2) Furthermore if my laptops vga would be unable to handle 1080, i guess the playback would lag also on my 23" monitor which is also 1080.
I really have no idea if it is the movie , TV, or vga that has the problem.
    Any suggestion would be great.
    Thank you in advance.
    Hardware info:
    TV: Toshiba 46TL938
    Notebook: Fujitsu Amilo xi 2528

    Hi
I dont think its TV issue.
First of all using USB flash memory stick, the movie playback is handled by Toshiba media player and secondly the data does not need to be send through an cable.
Streaming the movie from notebook, you send the signal to the TV via HDMI cable. The 3D movies contains a lot of data and this might affect the playback quality streaming the data from one device to another.
So if you would notice some interrupts while playback, this might be related to the HDMI cable.
If your HDMI connection is capable of 1080p and/or your television is capable of refresh rates greater than 50Hz, you will need a Category 2 cable. Conventional HDMI/DVI cable may not work properly with this model. Try also an short cable (1.5-2m)
You should also check the user manual *page 88.*
The HDMI inputs on this TV only accept VGA, SVGA, XGA, WXGA, and SXGA signal formats which are
compliant with VESA as shown in the table _page 88_.
Since some PCs and HDMI or DVI devices input signals which are different from the resolution and frequency described in the table, the following phenomenon may occur; _incorrect display, false format detection, picture position failure, blur, or judder_.
In this case, set the monitor output format on your PC, HDMI or DVI device to conform to a signal in the table you would find in user manual.

  • Pcmcia ethernet card on compaq notebook

Hi can any one tell which Pcmcia ehrnet card supports for solaris x86 intel on notebook .....
I am using compaq presario1200 notebook and had netgearpc card which is not working with solaris 8
    appreciated for the help

I finally got PCMCIA to work.  But it was a battle.
My ethernet card DLINK DFE-690 TXD will NOT work with Arch 0.7.  (It does work when using the Arch 0.7  Installation CD but after installation, it does not work).
I tried everything.  (e.g. disabling almost everything in rc.conf and the config scripts).  I even tried manually inserting the modules using modprobe. And then running dhcpcd.  But dhcpcd failed since the ethernet PCMCIA card was "BUSY".
I found the BUG!  The problem is with the 2.6.10 kernel that the arch 0.7 CD installs.  In other words, the stock IDE or SCSI kernels that come with the 0.7 installation CD's are buggy.
I reinstalled arch usng FTP install.  (arch 0.7.1 is then installed with a newer kernel 2.6.13).  Arch 0.7.1 was able to properly detect and setup my PCMCIA card and get networking going.
I did NOT enable the pcmcia or hotplug daemons in rc.conf.  You do NOT need to.  They automatically get set up in the loadng modules stage (where some auto detection is being done).
So if anyone else is having problems, just use the FTP installation which installs arch 0.7.1 and a newer kernel 2.6.13.

To see if your laptop is capable of running Solaris you have 2 options. Either try it out and see if it works or check the hardware compatibility list at http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/.
As to your common installation issues I'd suggest paying some attention to this website: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/coll/1236.1.

  • Toshiba Power Saver fatal error 0x51A on Satellite M115-S3094

    Hello,
By the subject, the problem is there. Unfortunately, my computer which is the Toshiba M115-S3094, just recently had a Fatal Error with the Toshiba Power Saver program like 3 days ago. The Toshiba Power Saver not only does not want to work, but it no longer even shows on the taskbar.First, I went to the Power Properties to restore the proram, but to no avail.
Then, I tried uninstalling and subsequently re-installing the program and it still gave me the same problem with the Error: The program will be terminated. Fatal Error 0x51A. So right now, my laptop is not running on the Toshiba Power Scheme but on the common Windows scheme, like Presentation or Portable Laptop.
So I need help to restore the Toshiba Power Saver. I run the Toshiba M115-S3094 with Windows Media Center Edition.

    Hi
The Satellite M115 seems to be a Toshiba US notebook because of the 5 at the end of the number.
In this case you should use the Toshiba power saver from the Toshiba US site. Did you???
Maybe you have used the right Power saver utility, so possibly some registry or any system files keys are damage in such case the new OS installation from the Toshiba recovery CD would be advisable.

The TRORDLauncher is related to the Toshiba recovery disk creator too.
