Solaris-express-10/03 emacs core dump

I've just installed emacs on Solaris express 10/03 in Sun-Blade-100 box and having problem in gui mode. Emacs only runs with -nw in text mode but not in gui mode. Starting with no options, it has segmentation fault with coredump. Although it is not running on this machine, I can still have sshed emacs running in gui mode from other computers on that machine. By examining the core file with gdb, it is highly likely that realfree () from /lib/libc.so.1 from emacs causing the problem. It there any way to fix this problem? -Thanks
P/S emacs coredump and corresponding assembler code.
#0 0xfeeca788 in realfree () from /lib/libc.so.1
0xfeeca788 <realfree+100>: ld [ %o7 + 8 ], %l1

The usenet thread starting with this article...
http://groups.google.de/groups?selm=lmsmmwz81k.fsf%40privacy.net
recommends to work around this problem by running emacs with 'setenv LD_NODIRECT 1'.

    Hello
    Currently we are using JBoss Application server on solaris 9. Over a period of time. Java crashes suddenly. The condition under which this can be reproduced is currently not reproduceable. But over a period of time, this crash just happens.
    The following is the stack trace of the core file. Can somebody see this and let me know what could be the possible problem.

    Hi there
    Not sure which jdk you are using but I am guessing you are using native code?
    libkernel32.so
    See http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/vm/signal-chaining.html
    Start your application this way, this should solve your problem.
    export LD_PRELOAD=<libjvm.so dir>/libjsig.so; java_application (ksh)
    setenv LD_PRELOAD <libjvm.so dir>/libjsig.so; java_application (csh)
    Also, even if u are using 1.3.1, u can get the libjsig.so from 1.4.2 and do the same.
    Hope this helps.

  • Solaris 10, Ruby on Rails, Core Dumps

    I am not very savvy with Solaris administration and we are having issues with configuring our system to run Ruby on Rails applications. We opted to use the Coolstack framework for our environment, thankfully without many hiccups. That said, our applications load but core dump during the second page load.
    At this point, I'm not sure if it's our recent switch to Coolstack that is causing the problem. We've also worked to get a Mongrel cluster up and running, so that could also be the culprit.
    What I'm looking for really is advice on how to pin down what the error is. I've learned about pstack to deal with the core dump file, but I'd have a better time understanding Chinese than that output. I also read about gdb and dbx, neither of which appear to be installed on our system. A strings on the file, another recommendation I found, spits out a bunch of gibberish.
    How can I move forward in discovering the problem?

    I'm having the exact same problem with my Solaris server. I can't seem to get any form of Rails running on the system, and pages generated by Rails crash after a few page loads (not always the same number).
    Did you have any luck tracking down the issue? I've asked around in a number of places and come up empty-handed every time.

  • Tuxedo8 core dumps when performing a tpcall in Solaris

    Hi all,
    I'm installing a Tuxedo application on a Solaris OS:
    SunOS 5.8 Generic_108528-13 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-280R
    Tuxedo 8.0 compiled under 32bits libraries.
    This application also runs correctly under a RedHat Linux 7.1 (kernel 2.4.9-31)
    and on a Digital (OSF1 V4.0 878 alpha)
    When running the application on Solaris, we always get a core dump when the service
    performs a tpcall. Debugging the Tuxedo server we can see the core dump is produced
    when the service gets de response from the tpcall, i.e: when the service called
    performs the tpreturn.
    Any clues will be appreciated, thanks!
    Yol.

    Oh, thanks very much, what a stupid mistake! sorry :(
    We knew about the cast, but after looking for the problem in many ways we didn't
    realize FLDLEN was a short!
    Thank you all for your quick help!
    Yol.
    Scott Orshan <[email protected]> wrote:
    FLDLEN nLongitud is a short. Casting its pointer to a long * does not
    change the
    fact that the return value will overwrite other memory. On Linux, the
    alignment or
    arrangement of the stack was different, so it didn't core dump. You need
    to pass
    the address of a real long for the return length.

    Yes, that's what we thought at first sight, nevertheless remember itruns ok in
    other OS.
    Anyway here I give you 2 samples of code we've tried.
    Any of this cases fail creating a core dump.
    Case 1:
    Src1 calls Src2:
    Src1:
    void SRC1(TPSVCINFO * BufferFml)
    FLDLEN nLongitud;
    FBFR *pBuffer;
    pBuffer = (FBFR *) BufferFml->data;
    if (tpcall("SRC2", (char *) pBuffer, 0, (char **) &pBuffer, (long*) &nLongitud,
    0) == -1)
    userlog("Error!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!");
    tpreturn(TPSUCCESS, 0, (char *) pBuffer, 0L, 0);
    Src2
    void SRC2(TPSVCINFO * BufferFml)
    FLDLEN nLongitud;
    FBFR *pBuffer;
    pBuffer = (FBFR *) BufferFml->data;
    tpreturn(TPSUCCESS, 0, (char *) pBuffer, 0L, 0);
    Case 2:
    Src1 calls Src2:
    Src1:
    The same as in case 1
    Src2:
    void SRC2(TPSVCINFO * BufferFml)
    tpreturn(TPSUCCESS, 0, NULL, 0L, 0);
    Thanks anyway for your attention ;-)

    Yol,
    My initial guess is that your code is not keeping track of the tpalloced
    buffers correctly - in particular, the one that the reply is received
    into.
    If you post some code, maybe someone will see the error. Alternatively,
    have you got purift or some other bounds checking software that might
    help you track the problem?
    Regards,
    Peter.

    Hello captfoss!
    The Linux video drivers are buggy. If you give them video they don't like, they crash.You seem to repeat this statement quite often......but I don't think s/he is using Linux. S/He is using Solaris10 !!!
    I don't know if Linux and Solaris are same OS.............
    Thanks! And please don't take it as a comment! :-)

  • Shell scripts producing core dumps

    I have a shell script (written in ksh) which runs fine on one solaris system, but produces a core dump on another (same version of the OS).
    What is strange is that when I did a "file core", it reports the core file as generated by the shell script itself!
    I didn't think it was possible for a shell script to core dump. Or if it does, file should report that the core was produced by the shell or some other program that the script calls.
    Strangely enough when I introduce another "echo" statement in the for loop where the core dump occurs, the problem goes away.
    Has anyone seen this behavior and know why this is happening, and why a shell script can core dump?

    Indeed I had the same suprise recently with ksh :
    core file = core -- program ``ksh'' on platform SUNW,Sun-Fire-880
    SIGSEGV: Segmentation Fault
    The script was used to lauch and monitor about 40 parallel database extraction process and used signal as a mean of communication between father and child. The script behave differently without any modification in the code. ksh -n didn't report any error. Since we change to a more classic but less fancy mean of coordination, a file, the problem disepeared.
    Have you consider using ksh93 (/usr/dt/bin/dtksh) intead of ksh88 (/bin/ksh) ?
    Maybe you can use a debugger to get more info or truss the script.
    If you get more info please update this thread, I would very much like to understand what king of thing should be considered hazardous when writing script.
    Cheers

  • Report Server: RTF format on Solaris gives Core Dump

    We have Report Server 6.0.8.11.2 on Solaris.
    We are running reports thru URL and it is working fine for PDF and HTML. When we specify the desformat as RTF it gives Segmentation Fault Core dumped.
    We have tried using rwcli60 thru command line and it gives the same error, while PDF and HTML format is fine.
    Is there a patchset for Solaris for the same or are we missing on some parameter?
    - Tarun

    Hi I am a beginner to solaris and am trying to install Sun ONE Application Server on the virtual machine which runs Solaris10 on X86. When I try to launch the executable bin file, i get a message saying Killed.
    It seems like it is not initiating the executable. ANy comments would be appreciated
    thanks

  • Solaris 8 branded zone core dump on cssd

    Hi,
    Just migrated my first Sol8 machine to a solaris 8 branded zone. but on the console I get error messages:
    Nov 8 12:45:42 gent320b cssd: The process "ccv.sh" has been killed by sig#139, core dumped
    Nov 8 12:45:47 gent320b cssd: The process "kkcv.sh" has been killed by sig#139, core dumped
    the netstat -f unix
    Active UNIX domain sockets
    Address Type Vnode Conn Local Addr Remote Addr
    stream-ord 6000ebffad8 00000000 /tmp/jd_sockV6
    output doesn't list any /dev/ccv or /dev/kkcv sockets like to 'real' machine.
    Any ideas?

    This error messages are output by
    cssd which is a input method of Japanese.
    If you don't use Japanese input method cs00, you can stop it by following method.
    # /etc/init.d/loc.ja.cssd stop
    # mv /etc/rc2.d/S90loc.ja.cssd /etc/rc2.d/_S90loc.ja.cssd

  • Inetd service/program crashes with core dump in Solaris 8 zone/container

    I have developed a service in C that is launched from inetd when something comes on a specific port.
    When a connection is opened to the port a core dump is created in the same directory where the executable file is located.
    If you run the same service program from the command line everything is working perfect.
    This is running in a Solaris 8 zone/container on a Solaris 10 machine.
    Everything is set correctly in /etc/inetd.conf and in /etc/services.
    I have even stripped down the program to a hello world program that is just printing a string to the screen and it is still crashing with a core dump.
    # ldd test_srv
    /usr/lib/secure/s8_preload.so.1
    libc.so.1 => /usr/lib/libc.so.1
    libdl.so.1 => /usr/lib/libdl.so.1
    /usr/platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-480R/lib/libc_psr.so.1
    The same service is running on a Linux machine and on a Solaris 10 machine without zones/containers without any problems.
    Can you please help me figure out what am I missing. Is there something specific with zones/containers that should be set / configured?
    Do I have to set some specific env. variables to work in a Solaris 8 zone/container environment or is it something very simple that I'm missing?

    Could you please examine the truss log and advice what the problem is and how to fix it?

  • Core dump (WL - 4.5 and Solaris 7)

    We are using WebLogic 4.5 on Solaris 7. Some times the WebLogic dumps core and exits. There is no pattern for it. I am attaching the core generated:
    Could there be a solution some one knows of.
    Thanks.

    Abort - core dumped

    The current thread shows JVM has core dumped on a native OCI call.
    Type-2 drivers need to make OCI calls to connect to the Database server and since OCI calls are in C,
    there is a possibility that C code is causing JVM to crash.
    I would recommend you to give it a try with type-4 driver and see if you can get rid of core dumps.

    We are using WebLogic 4.5 on Solaris 7. Some times the WebLogic dumps core and exits. There is no pattern for it. I am attaching the core generated:
    Could there be a solution some one knows of.
    Thanks.

    Try this guy's list, he maintain an archive of Solaris package.

    Of course, if you can get directly from Sun will be better.

  • Report Server RTF on Solaris gives Core Dump

    We have Report Server 6.0.8.11.2 on Solaris.
    We are running reports thru URL and it is working fine for PDF and HTML. When we specify the desformat as RTF it gives Segmentation Fault Core dumped.
    We have tried using rwcli60 thru command line and it gives the same error, while PDF and HTML format is fine.
    Is there a patchset for Solaris for the same or are we missing on some parameter?

  • Core dump on solaris 8/7 making JNI call.

    Hi,
    I am running solaris 8 and solaris 7 with Java 1.3.1. I have required solaris patches installed on the machine for java 1.3.1.
    From a C program I am making some JNI calls and when I run the program it core dumps at the very first JNI call. C program that make JNI calls are in a .so file.
    Same C code with Java 1.3.1 is running fine on window 2000, AIX 5.1, RedHat Advanced Server 2.1 and SuSE Enterprise Linux 7.
    Any help will be greatly appriciated.
    Thanks

  • Firefox 3.6.3 crashes randomly when used throught SUN Secure Global Desktop. I have a Solaris core dump. Is there a way to get the dump read?

    Running FF 2.0.0.8 with Sun Secure Global Desktop - no issues. Upgraded to V3.6.2, then 3.6.3. Both upgrades failed. Browser randomly crashes at different times, different pages. FF works if directly ssh'ing into application sever. When accessing FF after loging in using SGD, I get random crashes. I have a Solaris core dump generated by FF. Is there anyone that can read/diagnos the core dump?

    I have identified the issue and received a 'fix' from the
    Oracle Secure Global Desktop support team.
    The issue - firefox is crashing when attempting to talk to the sound server which is not active. All activity within the window works fine, except ff hangs the second you move the mouse in to the top level menu.
    We disabled the audio under the SGD configuration and that ficed the issue.

    Hi,
    I didnt compile with -g option, but i got to the root of problem. In the program I was just doing cout , so it was very simple, but I was linking libpthread library with the program , also was giving -mt flag during compilation. When I removed this both, the program disn't dump core and nither did it hang.
    But the same thing worked with solaris 2.8 64 bit CC 5.0 with patch 108528-10 .
    So I just can make out the difference as to why this this is happening
    Regards
