[Solaris10] Chaning login screen and question about JDS

Hi. I'm relativly new to solaris but I have a lot of experiance with linux and *bsd systems.
I have two (easy maybe?) questions:
1) How Can I change the login screen in solaris 10 (i'm talking about this: http://www.netrock.ca/solaris-login.jpg )
2) How can I acces my JDE desktop from IceWM or the monowindow session ? I have blocked this options from the start menu since it put the load of my system at 100% will the employees logged on that at the same time
additionnal infos:
- We are using SunRay terminals with SRSS
- We are using Solaris 10 for Sparc
Thanks alot !
Phil

Solaris uses the dtlogin by standard, thats the one which' picture you posted. If you wish to change this the best way is to replace dtlogin with gdm.
This is relatively easy, first disable the dtlogin program. You can do so using /usr/dt/bin/dtconfig (check the helpscreen, you can use it to enable and disable dtlogin). After that the only thing you need to do is enable gdm. Its part of the Solaris' SMF but iirc you need to manually setup the manifest for it first, but a mere 'svcs -a | grep gdm" will tell you more on that.
The only thing which you may run into is that you probably need to configure Xorg first, but I'm not sure about that.
I don't quite understand the second question.

You can take some of the steps here, #4, #5 or even trying a #18
Step by Step to fix your Mac
but I suspect your going to first have to create a data recovery drive
Create a data recovery, undelete boot drive
to get your data off the machine,
then do a #20 to eliminate the bad sectors as that's why your getting the "pinwheel" it's getting a delay reading from the drive, right when your trying to log in too, what a bad spot for it to happen.

    Hi skippy2012trev,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you updated your Apple Id and password but now you are being prompted for the old information in iCloud. You are on the right track by changing the Apple ID back to the previous email address temporarily so that you can sign out. You should not need to verify the email address. After you edit the Apple ID back to the old email address and then sign out of iCloud on your iPhone, edit the Apple ID back to the address you would currently like to use. There is no need to change the password again, only the email address, unless you prefer to update the password again.
If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud - Apple Support
    Change your Apple ID temporarily
If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't help, try these steps:
Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
Tap Settings > iCloud. Complete these steps only if the Find My [Device] setting is turned on:
Scroll down and tap Sign Out, then tap Sign Out to confirm. If you're using iOS 7 or earlier, tap Delete Account, then tap Delete to confirm.
Tap Keep on My [Device] or Delete from My [Device]. In either case, your data remains in iCloud and will be updated on your device when you sign in to iCloud again.
Enter the password for your previous Apple ID.
Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
Return to Settings > iCloud and sign in with your new Apple ID.
    Cheers,
    Joe

  • Reverts back to dark gray login screen and will not allow me to login

    HI!
    SPECS
    Retina 15in.
    16gb of memory
    500 gb ssd.
    OS - Mavericks
    PROBLEM
I can boot up and login to my laptop - no problem. I have my login set up so that my user name appears and all I have to do is type my password.
The problem is when I try to wake my computer or disconnect it from my thunderbolt display. Sometimes, (more frequently as of late) when I wake my computer or disconnect it from my thunderbolt display my computer will revert back to a dark gray login screen and prompt me to put in my user name and password (First of all the login screen that comes up is different than the one that comes up when i boot up the laptop because it requests me to type in my user name). - once I type in my user name and password it will not let me log in. It will clear both the username and password fields and sit at this screen. At this point I am forced to restart my laptop and log back in. I never have any problems restarting and loging in right after booting up.
Any suggestions on how I can fix this? I do not think it is normal for it to just revert to the login screen and then not even accept my login information.
Thank you in advance for all and any help!

First try a Reset  ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least Ten seconds... (But can take Longer)... until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons
If no joy... Try a Restore...
1: Connect the device to Your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.
    Restoring  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
3: If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try using the Steps in this article to force the device into Recovery Mode.

Machine NetBoots to a login screen and can`t get past it?

The only time I've ever seen that happen is when creating a NetBoot volume from an Install DVD, and forgetting to create a user account. This leaves the system in a state where you can't log in, because there is no account to log in to.

  • * Buying Vado HD - 1st or 2nd gen? and question about pricing *

    Hi.
I want to buy the Vado HD. I'm deliberating between the st and the 2nd gen. Can you help me with that?
Second question, how come the 2nd gen (that supposed to be better and newer) costs less than the st gen?! (99$ for the 2nd gen and 229$ for the st gen).
    Thanks,
    Adam

CRe: * Buying Vado HD - st or 2nd gen? and question about pricing *# To me the Vado Rev3 seems to be trying to get the same feature set as a digial Camera with HD recording capabilty....except the cameras take better stills. I have the below Canon and the Vado HD Rev.
    http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-SD780IS2--Stabilized-Black/dp/B00SER47Y
We don't use the vado anymore since the camera is always with us.
Factor into the price of the Canon also purchasing a highspeed 6GB sd card.
if you are really sold on a Vado...look at the comparison here:
    http://www.myvado.com/products/comparison.aspx
Note how they reduced the recording time of the new models to only 4gb instead of 8gb.....however, the newer units nati'vely record to MP4 which is a little easier on some software programs than the AVI container.

  • Weird graphic before login screen and laptop is VERY slow

    Hello,
So I have an Early-2011 MacBook Pro 17".  Lately (past 3 months) the computer has been slower (which is normal, it's getting older) but now it is just unbearably slow and for seemingly NO reason.  I have meters on the menu bar that say there is pleny of RAM left and the processor is running at 2%-6%.  I can't figure out for a single reason why this is happening, but it is EXTREMELY frustrating, since only 2.5 years ago I paid 3200$ for this computer.
Now there is a weird graphic that appears RIGHT before the login screen appears.  I have attached a photo.  I currently own an iPhone 5, iPad 4, iMac 20" (2008), MacBook Pro 17" (early 2011), and an iPod Touch 3rd Generation.   I have had problems with almost all the products, but yet have remained a die-hard Apple fan.  I'm beginning to question my affinity to Apple, because I could have purchased a 17" Windows computer for MUCH less and then just replaced it this year.  Instead I thought this piece of junk would last me 6 years.... This is hardly looking like it will be the case, as I can barely do anything on it as of now.
    It's an early-2011 MacBook Pro 17", with a 2.2GHz Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB of 1333MHz DDR3 RAM and a 750GB Western Digital Black hard drive running at 7200RPM.

    justinjsc,
I can’t explain the weird graphic, but I can offer something to try regarding the slowdown. Boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Did this make any difference?
In case the slowdown is due to a problem with your hard drive, do you make regular backups? If not, you might want to consider buying an external drive to use as a Time Machine backup destination.

  • Mountain Lion Desktop crash? Randomly it returns me to the login screen and I have restart all my apps

So after install of Mountain Lion (never happened before) my desktop crashes and it returns me to the login screen.  After I login I have to restart all my apps.
One morning this happened 5+ times in under an hour.  So my productivity has gone down :-(
I work around this by only running three apps (finder, terminal & firefox), and then it sees to only happen 2-3 times a day...sigh.
The only other odd thing and have no idea if it is related is that firefox was showing some animated image from the olympics and when I had it on one screen it was fine, when I had the window on the other screen, the image was not the right image, it looked like it had reached into the screen buffer of other applications and was displaying that (e.g. where there was a scrolling flame for the right image, there was some scrolling upside down text from my terminal when I had it on the other screen where the flame was supposed to be).
An help on how to debug/solve would be helpful.

You're welcome. If you use Zoom often try the new show controller feature. It's below where you turned zoom off. Once you turn it on you can use it to turn Zoom on and off. Plus you can use zoom as a magnifying glass instead of full screen.

  • My Macbook won't go to the login screen and the Lion OS-X is stuck in disc drive

I can't get my mac in safe mode I just circle slash screens or question folder. How can at least get to safe mode

Well first off there is no Lion 10.7 disk, did you make one from these instructions?
    http://eggfreckles.net/notes/burning-a-lion-boot-disc/
To boot form this disk (or a 10.6 disk) you need to hold the c or option key down.
    Gizmo9 wrote:

Hold the shift key down while booting enters Safe Mode.
    I just circle slash screens...
    That's a no-good disk sign
    or question folder.
That says it can't find your OS X boot partition, try holding the Option Key down while booting and select either the Lion Recovery Partition or the OS X partition then set OS X partiton in your System Preferences> Starup Disk.

  • Login screen and scrolling problem

Macbook Pro 15" i7 from April 2010 here. Recently installed Lion, and I'm having 2 problems that I can't seem to find an explanation to:
    1) Login screen
At the login screen, the screen brightness slowly goes down until it shuts off completely, then slowly comes back to life.
         This repeats every 15-20 seconds.
    2) Scrollpad issue
While scrolling up and down in my browser, it suddenly, unexpectedly registers a two-finger left/right swipe and the browser goes 'Back'.
I've -never- had this problem, thats why I doubt its my technique.
I'd appreciate it very much if anyone could shed some light onto these problems.

  • Login screen and App Store only in English on a German desktop

    Hi,
I am from Germany and after upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion (several week ago), my login screen is in English only. There ia
sleep, shutdown restart instead of the German words. First I thought this is not yet translated. But now my brother upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion as well and he told me that his login screen is fully translated. We both have MacBook Pro Intel machines. Both 10.7.2.
In my system settings, everything is set to German.
And a second problem is that the Guest user is shown in the login screen, although I did not enable it. And it show Gueast in English as well and not the German translation.
Did I miss some configuration panel somewhere?
I am not a newbie, so if you point me to some files I can edit or remove or whatever, that would be okay for me (I am a Linux guy and love Vi ;-) )
Maybe a second strange translation error is the App Store. This app also is only in English here. Is there some system wide setting that controls both problems?
    Thanks in advance
    Christian

    Solution in Terminal.app:
    sudo "/System/Library/CoreServices/Language Chooser.app/Contents/MacOS/Language Chooser"

I am using GT70 0ND 202US。 The current BIOS version is E1762IMS.10R from the official MSI website.
The features I need are basically, exchange the Fn and Win keys, disable a SATA drive.
I also like to play around with some other unlocked features in BIOS, if you would like to provide one.

  • My iMac 21.5" screen display at login screen only shows about a fourth of the actual screen, and displays in top left corner of screen. Any help?

When i turned my iMac (Lion OS X 10.7.2) on, the lockscreen shows up with about 1/2 to 1/4 of the lockscreen in the top left corner of the screen. It still works but is just smaller and the rest of the screen is black. Ive tried rebooting and theres nothing on the web that has a similar story. Its not a huge problem, it just annoys me sometimes. Its also done this in previous version of the OS its just continuing to do so. Thanks in advance

Maybe some of the solutions in here Troubleshooting issues with video can help.
Especially the SMC- and PRAM-reset and/or the Safe Mode.
