Hello,
I will try to explain the situation:
Hardware overview:
Server1 2008
Role: Hyper-V Server and Back-up Server
Physical
Server2 SBS 2008
Role: AD, DNS, DHCP, Exchange,
Virtual
Server3 2008
Role: Remote Desktop Server
Virtual
The server is performing very bad since design.
Solutions from supplier:
- cache on raid controller
- seperate raid volume for virtual vm's
But unfortunately those solutions don't work.
I would like to setup a new server and move the virtual SBS server to a new server, but not virtual.
How would you guys approach this case?
Hope to hear some reactions.

My apologies, I was in a hurry when writing this question!.
So to give some examples without performance statistics:
1. boot proces takes about 15 to 20 minutes (Hyper-V Server) to get the logon screen (crtl alt del);
2. several times after a reboot the vm's wouldn't start anymore, only solution was to remove the configuration and build it from scratch.
3. employees are complaining from the beginning that working with data that is in stored in the SBS VM (Office) is very slow (this configuration is not build by me!)
4. back-up solution (tape with Back-upAssist)
that is installed on the hyper-v server, is taking about 36 hours to back-up 900GB
To answer the question of Tim:
1. What sort of networking do you have configured?

2. Are you using at least two virtual CPUs in each VM?

do you mean when you say "performing very bad"?

In consulatation with HP and supplier, we added a new RAID 10 storage where the VM's data is stored, at first everything
was installed on the RAID 1. Also we added HP 1GB x 1 Flash Backed Write Cache Flash Geheugen, but nothing
is changed.

    I'm not sure if this is the best category to write this post in, but I didn't see anything better. Long story short I'm looking for an MDM solution. Currently I'm looking at AirWatch and Casper and would like to hear from other IT admins what they're experiences have been with each.
    If you're following me so far, you'll probably want some environmental information. Here's the scenario, I work for a hospital that not only deals with technology inside the hospital, but also works in conjunction with 15 remote clinics. Normally that wouldn't be so bad, expect to reach any of these clinics you have to fly by plane. We have to minimize bandwidth usage as much as possible, internet speed is slow, and connections can be intermittent at times. Luckily each clinic is on a central network that's accessible from the main hospital, and allows us to remote into the computers currently installed at those locations.
    Not exactly you're typical MDM scenario at a university or school. I need some advice and real world feed back from anyone who's used either AirWatch or Casper. Personally I'm leaning towards Casper, but my boss whats the multiplatform capabilities of AirWatch in case we begin to deploy non Apple mobile devices.

    hi everybody,
    since yesterday i'm a proud owner (more or less) of a zen x-fi. the only thing that dri'ves me crazy is that i can't get it working with windows.
    first of all the system config:
    Desktop PC (P4 on 95P Express chipset)
    Windows XP Pro SP3
    Media Player
    i searched the web and am trying to solve this problem: "there was a problem installing ..." for quite a long time now.
    here's what i did up until now:
    - deinstalling Media Player and installing v0 - couldn't deinstall v
    - installing newest version of the WMP (v - 5th Oct. 2008) from Microsoft to get the newest MTP support
    - deinstalling the "Creative Centrale" and reinstalling it (at the moments it's uninstalled)
    - installing Microsoft User Driver Framework v.0 (wouldn't allow me - of course, because it's implemented with WMP or rather it's drivers are older)
    - setting USB ENUM to "read" and "full control"
    - deinstalling and reinstalling the USB drivers (motherboard support as well as chipset vendor newest drivers)
    - checking every single USB port (front and back)
    - settings for USB HUBs to "full power supply" (no Power Management)
    - reinstalled SP3
    - got all new Updates from Windows (critical updates) including all up to date .Net Framework versions
    - tried the Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit (quite sure that this doesn't do anything since it seems to be the sdk version and i know to little of programming to try something out)?
    - downloaded the fixup (found it in different posts to have been a workaround) and there was a little success: i got a working driver (no "there was a problem installing ...") until i realized that it doesn't show anything inside the folder (mtp/portable device) neither does it say "zen x-fi" in the device manager (it's only called "mtp device"). checked the .inf in the fixup package and realized that it couldn't work as long as i don't know the x-fi's Product ID, which i searched for on the internet (linux forums etc.) but the x-fi seems to be too new
    now: i of course tried it on another PC to be sure (Laptop with Windows XP Pro SP3 and WMP 0!) - and it works ...
    downside is: my library is fairly big and would fit on the Laptop's harddri've. i found a little workaround and imported the folder into the laptop's winamp library (via Network) and got some songs onto the Zen but it takes a lot of time getting them through the network connection (WLAN).
    as i see it there's only two chances: either the USB is not suitable (which i can't believe, since everything else that i attach is working fine and without any issues) or the problem has something to do with the Media Player's MTP.
    so does anyone have another idea or would i have to wait for either Windows or Creative to come up with a solution(maybe another hotfix)?

    Ive been having hell with this aswell, although i think my computer is to blame. It "should" work if i could install wmp, but i cannot because my computer needs me to install some update rollup 2 which doesnt install and i cant install sp3 either... i've been contacting microsoft but they cant sort it.. maybe my pc is just reaching its old age and cannot cope with so many new things going on.
    but from what you have said i cant see why it shouldnt work with your current system.

  • RMI based solution - advice please?

    Where I work we have been trying to come up with a solution for an issue we are dealing with. We think the problem suits RMI very nicely, but would really appreciate any comments or better solutions that people could suggest, since there may be better ways of solving it.
    Problem:
    Our Java Webapp runs in a Solaris environment. It needs to perform certain operations on a filestore (eDirectory/NDS) such as deleting certain folders. The only way we have of communicating with eDirectory is via some DOS-based command line utils. Also, there will be a high volume of calls to the command line utils so we need something that will perform well.
    Our proposed solution
    Since we can't call the DOS utilities directly (because we are running in Solaris), we thought we would put the utilities on a spare windows server that we have. We will then write a simple RMI program running on the Windows box that calls the DOS utilities (Runtime.getRuntime() etc etc).
    So, all our Solaris-based webapp needs to do then is make an RMI call to the Windows machine, and the work is done.
    Other solutions could involve having a separate webapp (perhaps running in Tomcat) on the Windows box, and our Solaris-based webapp just calls the URL of a JSP/servlet, which is wrapped around the call to the dos utilities. But, we thought RMI might be a bit neater, more lightweight than setting up another instance of Tomcat.
    If anyone could confirm if our solution is a good one, or could provide a better alternative we would be really grateful for any input.

  • App opens then closes,any updated solution, advice given about rebooting doesn't work.

    An app I used a while ago came back into favour I re downloaded it from iTunes but it opens and closes anytime I try to get beyond the first screen. I tried the advice here to reboot my iPad but this doesn't work. This started 2 months ago and I abandoned it thinking it would right itself with iOS 6 or something, it hasn't. How do I remedy the situation. I'm using iPad 2 + iOS 6. App was made for iPhone and I've used it on iPad and iPhone 4S  now it works on neither.

    Ok, just figured out how to get rid of AMDS... go to control panel...click on AMDS....choose REPAIR ,let it run through. if you see IGNORE pop up, hit it...it asked me 3 times i hit ignore 3 times. when it is done, go back now and choose to UNINSTALL it. this worked for me.....still cant download itunes though

  • SBS2011 and cloud solution advice

    I have a client, they currently have an SBS2011 server looking after emails, redirected files, etc
    They also have a Server 2008R2 standard install on a separate server, this looks after Centrally Shared Files within the business
    Ok Broadband speed is standard ADSL 1MB up and 16MB down (so not great) Fibre Optic is years away.
    They have just got a new contract job which will take them a few years to complete. They will have key members working remotely for quite some time (yes they will pop back and forth for server synchronisations etc)
    However while they are working away they will need to store vast quantities of centralised data - data that they can access where they are and data that can be accessed by the main office.
    Due to broadband speeds VPN's are completely out, my thought would be an online cloud server, so a third server in essence which is located in the cloud which both parties site and main office can see.
    At first I thought about services like DropBox Team, and SkyDrive with Office365 and other services like that. The issue is they all require synchronisation tools that make every computer have to have a copy (the amount of data they will store over the years
    could easily get towards 1TB, this can not be stored locally on each users machines (500GB hdd and waste of HDD resources) Benefit though Drag and Drop folder access, of files like normal plus version control built in... woo :) 
    If you don't use the synchronisation tool you have to use the web interface, this is folder at a time, have to download, edit then use web tool to upload, and you can't upload folders and it becomes an absolute pain
    Before anyone suggests SharePoint on SBS... again this seems to be a webinterface for files single file downloads and uploads
    this is not an easy to use system
    Clients could well be dealing with folders of photos wanting to download whole batches, groups, a selection of files, editing a selection etc.
    They generally need that mapped drive folder drag and drop type interface, where groups of files can be edited etc, but without needing all files to be synchronised or antyhign complicated or selecting folders to synchronise, as they will never know what
    they need until they need it, etc.
    I was thinking maybe a VPS/Cloud/Dedicated server with Windows Server Standard installed on it, on the net might solve the problem , join it to the company domain remotely and then use that as a central store..... would I be able to map folders? would it
    work?
    Has anyone here had a similar setup need? and/or suggestions about the best way to do this? I mean the internet is just a big network, so surely a server located remotely should be able to be treated like a local server? the speed issues to a centralised
    server on the net would be alright for users to log into as dealing with a capacity of 100MBit/s where as the company local server can only down 16mbit/s and up 1mbit/s

    I'm not sure that would help, unless I'm missing something (quite possible)
    As I say the main office broadband is absolutely dire 1mbit/s up and 16 mbit/s down
    There will be several users on site, all with their own laptops. To use RDS - would mean another 7 licenses of everything (that they already have on their laptop) to try and work in the main office from their remote location. - They will have laptops etc
    on site.
    The issue is access of centralised data. On site they will be collecting 1-3TB of data over the 2 years - each onsite will have 4G upload speeds or dedicated line upload speeds (the speed issue on site is not an issue)
    What we don't want is data spread over several laptops the people don't know who has what - also data needs to be backed up (can't trust users to backup themselves plus they'll keep their portable HDD next to their laptops)
    Main office also needs access to the data - plus on site staff may go back to main office every so often and need access to data there etc
    That's where my thought of a Windows 2008R2 standard server in the cloud came from - as Site will have good internet they will be able to upload data to that server
    As the office has reasonable download, they can access the data they require, when they require (thing that put me off services like Dropbox and OneDrive that require Syncing all)
    Everything backed up, everything accessible.... but I don't know if i'll be able to set up mapped drives to work just like a windows folder - these are basic users, trying to faff with FTP software or web interfaces they will not handle, they will get incredibly
    frustrated with as they will have hundreds of files to deal with ever picture session they do, etc.

    I have a macbook pro, c2d..and my question is as fallows.
    For one, i am unclear about this upgrade for the macbook pros for the network cards, if someone could clearify that would be great.
    I live in a building where internet is provided, i dont have access to the router. I do on the other hand have a pc desktop, and my question is; can i buy a wireless router and run that from my desktop (eventough there is already another router in the building), and if so, should i get the new ones offerd from apple....and upgrade that 'thing' in my MBP?
    Any and all suggestions would be great!

    Tristan, the answer to my question is on your PC, you don't need access to the building's router. If you check the network settings on your PC you have basically two ways of setting it up. You can set it up with a fixed IP address provided to you by the people of the building or your you can set it up to receive an IP address automatically, what is referred to as DHCP.
    Those same settings are what you would use when you set up your wireless router as it will take the place of the PC. Then you will connect the PC to the router in which case you will set it up to receive an IP address automatically, it will get it from the new wireless router. The Mac will be set up similarly to use DHCP and get its address from the wireless router.
    Like I said, you can buy any brand wireless router you want, they all follow the same standards that allow them to connect to 802.11b/g devices that the Mac can connect to. It is just that your newer MacBook Pro can use a new standard (802.11n) which is a higher speed and more reliable then the previous standards but the new standard has not been ratified yet. There is no guarantee that the MacBook Pro will be able to use this new standard with these other routers (it will fall back to the previous 802.11b/g if it can't.) I can guarantee it does work with the new Apple router as I have one working now. Your desktop PC will work with it also but since it will be directly connected using ethernet this is a non issue.

  • Mobility U2 + xf86-video-ati-6.7.195-3 issues

    Hi,
    I've read a load of topics about problems with the new Xorg, and I've tried all solutions proposed. Alas, nothing worked for me.
    I have disabled AIGLX, I'm not using a composite window manager. Running `startx` yields an image distorted in the same way. I am certain this is caused by the "radeon" driver, "vesa" works fine, but slows down the computer tremendously. The laptop is a Compaq Presario 2190US, the videocard: ATI Radeon IGP330M/340M/350M (U2). I am not sure how to fetch the specs of the display.

  • Satellite P100-240 - Doesn't boot properly

    The laptop (P100-240) turned itself off whilst playing a game 2 days ago, since then the following problems have been experianced;
    Loading windows in normal mode results in instant Blue Screen (specific info unavilable). Windows in normal mode has not been accessed since this problem began.
    Loading windows in safe mode worked for a while, but internet access resulted in Blue Screen aswell, for a while this problem resolved itself, safe mode no longer works to my knowledge.
    The visual display appears at all times distorted, a matrix like effect. I don't know wether this effect is passive, or only during windows or startup, details on how it looks or anything very specific.
    A blue screen mentioned the file nv4_mini.sys, this is an nvidia driver file for laptops as far as I know. A gfx driver update cured nothing.
    The current situation is total lack of access to the desktop, I think it blue screens just after the welcome screen. I don't know what the blue screen says atm, but the disabling of memory options in the bios was recommended by something... I don't know wether the option is even available to the p100-240s bios system, googling this problem came up with mentions of disabling video caching and shadowing options in the bios as the definition of bios memory options, and that these options don't always exist.
    However, my diagnosis is that the video card is just fried :( which would be a worse problem than a software or options problem as far as a quick and simple solution is concerned.
    Any solutions, advice or questions? I'm struggling to find and give useful advice, and learning the situation in detail is tricky aswell.
    So far a registry clean has been done, an anti-virus scan has been done, a system restore has been done, a video card driver update has been done and a bios update has been done. In that order, for what relevance that has.

    I've seen similar problems on the internet, but only once was it a near-identical problem with the same model of laptop.

    The Nvidia GeForce Go 7600 is a separate card that attaches to the bottom of the motherboard on the top left side.
    The card itself has a fan/heat sink unit attached to it and measures about 3x5 inches. I have become intimately familiar with this card and the P100 in the apst few days.
    Laptop worked until one day the screen went blank. Not dark black blank when its off, but rather when the backlight is on but no immage is available. The laptop starts in safe mode and also in the VGA mode. The problem can be seens even before windows starts up. There are vertical lines across the screen, they either distort color on the image (as in the toshiba welcome screen) or plainly black out letters as in the widnows start-up selection screen. Sometimes restarting after VGA mode removes these lines and system starts up normaly. Then once booted the screen goes blank either right away or in 5/10/20 minutes. I have replaced the video card and the system board to no avail.
    I think I will try replacing the screen power inverter next, will see if it will help.

    the screen is 1680x1050
    GPU is GEForce Go 7600, 256 mb

  • Photoshop CS v.8 open windows in Windows 7 cannot be moved, maximized, or closed

    I just installed my Photoshop CS Version 8 into Windows 7 on a new PC. When the program is opened, the File Browser icon does not toggle, and I have to go to File menu to open Browse. The browser window now cannot be moved, maximized, or closed. The same applies to any image that is opened. Notwithstanding, all the functions of Photoshop are working OK. Since Adobe no longer supports this version, I need solution advice from anyone.

  • Fantom 500GB USP 2.0 won't mount

    I plugged the drive into a friend's Core Duo machine, it worked fine.
    I plugged it into mine, which is an Intel Core 2, and it would not mount (not showing up on the desktop, Finder, or DU)
    After that, it won't mount to ANYTHING, including PC.
    Does anyone have any solutions/advice? I've got a ton of valuable stuff on this drive that I can't afford to lose.

  • ICloud: Safari Bookmark Sync

    For my Safari browser I am replacing Xmarks with iCloud for my syncing. I use Safari on three separate computers and an iPhone. I would like my initial iCloud sync be based on my main computer for the first sync. Hoping it will carry the folder structure over to the browsers on the other devices. After that initial sync, I will like to just have everything Sync like normal. Is there a way to do this or indicate it somehow? I know Xmarks allowed for this and in fact gave you choices how you wanted the sync to be handled.
    Anyone have a solution, advice or recommendation on how to do this? It's greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    All fixed on my end now.  No more safaridavclient taking 8gb of ram at 100% cpu
    This is what I did, hope it works for you - don't do this if you never use the commandline
    ~/Library/Safari  copied to a folder on desktop for backup
    In safari exported bookmarks for backup
    removed all bookmarks that had javascript in it
    let safaridavclient run for 10 minutes at 100% 
    killed safaridavclient
    stopped iCloud bookmark syncing
    rm -Rf ~/Library/Safari
    rm -Rf ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.safar*
    rm -Rf ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safar*
    rm -Rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safa*
    rm -Rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.safa* 
    reopen safari
    wait until it rebuilds and open apple.com
    quit safari
    start iCloud bookmark syncing
    wait 15 minutes
    bookmarks may be back, you can delete them or keep them if they are good
    i deleted them and imported the good bookmarks
    Turned on iphone and iPad bookmark syncing

    Hi,
    Can you bit more clear on the requirement , if my guess is correct TDS cannot be cleared in the general out going scinario. If you want to clear the TDS it has to be paid off first. and normally we have to give the TDS value in the column for TDS in the process open item screen to exempt it and balance value should be considered for clearing the out going payments.

  • How to pass data from main vi/exe (sender) to many vi/exe (receivers) with one receiver code/vi?

    I am tring to dev some data distribution system, where one vi gets data from hw to shared variable. Vi compiled to app "sender.exe" The others units (receivers) should receive that data from shared var and write it to different serial ports (configured by user in runtime via control). Number of actually working ports may vary.
    Should (and can?) this "receivers" vi's be the one vi, compiled to app "receiver.exe" and executed many times with different settings (diff serial port number)? // I tried this, second+ execution of receiver.exe just makes existing window active instead of creating new process as it works with other languages.
    Or should i build many different vi (receiver1, receiver2, ... with actually the same content) into different .exe to run them at the same time?
    Or may be the best way to build multi-port receiver with ability to communicate with any number of serial ports? // i dont like this, no code reusage here ))
    The question is complicated with possibility to work via network (one of the reasons to make different exe for receivers) and may be the shared vi namespace may not allow many receiver-side vi's to have the same name?
    In short, it should work as SENDER.exe >> RECEIVER1.exe, 2, 3... i.e. "one to many".
    Asking for a best solution advice.

    (I don't fully understand your setup, so I won't comment further at this time.)
