[solved] aiglx error with nouveau

I can't identity the xorg errors. I'm using nouveau (nvidia geforce 6200) on a fresh (two weeks old) and up-to date xfce installation. No login-manager is used. My system is as basic as possible: no AUR packages, no testing.

Nouveau *needs* modesetting. It's the only way it'll work. Disabling modeset means disabling nouveau entirely.
ConnorBehan wrote:You're putting:
Load "dri"
Load "dri2"
Load "glx"
in your xorg.conf too right?
Those are all default. No xorg.conf at all is needed for nouveau.
@mumpf, do you have up-to-date versions of xf86-video-nouveau and libdrm-nouveau installed? Those would be 0.0.16_git20120512-1 and 2.4.34-1

  • [SOLVED] Pacman Dependency error with nouveau-dri and libgl

I am upgrading my system with
    sudo pacman -Syu
The out put is as follows:
    :: Synchronizing package databases...
    testing is up to date
    core is up to date
    extra is up to date
    community is up to date
    :: Starting full system upgrade...
    resolving dependencies...
    looking for inter-conflicts...
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
    :: nouveau-dri: requires libgl=7.10.1
It seems that the newest libgl is 7.10.2-1, while the newest nouveau-dri(7.10.1-2) requires 7.10.1-1. An upgrade operation will upgrade the libgl from 7.10.1-1 to 7.10.2-1, which result in a conflict with nouveau-dri.
Is there any workaround? Do I have to wait for the nouveau-dri update?
    THANKS!

    Thanks @ngoonee !
It turns out that this is because the mirror (mirrors.163.com/archlinux) I am using is broken. It is holding <libgl 7.10.2-1> without <nouveau-dri 7.10.1-2> and simultaneously. I changed to http://mirrors.kernel.org/archlinux/ and the problem solves.
You're welcome. The mirror is/was probably just affected by a partial sync (the letter l is earlier than n ).
    Yeah, that's a quite reasonable explaination :-)

  • [SOLVED] XPCOMGlueLoad Error with Firefox and Thunderbird

When I update xcb-util from 0.3.6-2 to 0.3.8-1 I get the following error when starting firefox or (in this case) thunderbird:
    XPCOMGlueLoad error for file /usr/lib/thunderbird/libxpcom.so:
libxcb-aux.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    Couldn't load XPCOM.
There is no libxcb-aux-so.0 in my system but if I downgrade back to 0.3.6-2 then it installs in /usr/lib/libxcb-aux.so.0. If I copy this file and then update and paste it back in then thunderbird and firefox start fine with no errors but that doesn't feel like the proper way of doing things and it might lead to conflicts.
I wouldn't mind that much but I can't upgrade things like xf86-video-intel without the newer version of xcb-util.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Last edited by JJ.Eastwood (2012-01-02 18:05:08)

do not skip xcb-util or any other package. just fully update everything and no, is not about libxcb is all about xcb-util
thunderbird links to startup-notification, which links to new xcb-util.
if you use a xf86-video-intel from aur, you must recompile after fully updating your system

  • [Solved] Strange error with sound modules

If i modprobe any sound modules, i get strange errors which tell me to lookup dmesg.
    The error output looks like
WARNING: Error inserting snd_mixer_oss (/lib/modules/2.6.13-ARCH/kernel/sound/core/snd-pcm.ko): unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
FATAL: Error inserting snd_pcm_oss (/lib/modules/2.6.13-ARCH/kernel/sound/core/oss/snd-pcm-oss.ko): Unknown symbol in modules or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
The same for my soundcard drivers etc, simply any alsa module.
    My modprobe.conf looks as follows.
    install snd-pcm modprobe -i snd-pcm; modprobe snd-pcm-oss; true
    install snd-seq modprobe -i snd-seq; modprobe snd-seq-oss; true
    options snd device_mode=666
    alias snd-card-0 snd-ens1397
    alias sound-slot-0 snd-ens1371
Well, this should work fine (as i know). Looking up dmesg i get the following:
    snd_pcm_oss: Unknown symbol snd_info_unregister
    snd_pcm_oss: Unknown symbol snd_info_get_line
    snd_pcm_oss: Unknown symbol snd_pcm_format_width
I've got this problem since i updated to 2.6.13-ARCH.
Since this problem causes hotplug to take 10 minutes to start, it's annoying. I'd appreciate any hint what i could try.
    Thank you,
    STiAT

    That did solve my problem.
    Thank you alot!

  • How to solve import error with iTunes Producer?

Please help me out by telling me what is going wrong after I update my ibook with iTunes producer. The fetched statuses goes from internal transfer to import processing to import error. But I can't find out anywhere what is wrong......I'm getting crazy because as you can see I'm busy with it from febr, 16th .... And that is 9 days too long...
I have read a lot on the web and the forums but no one seems to have an answer. I have sent it to Apple, But no answer. Is there a server Meltdown?

The problem was indeed in the videos. Also Apple told me that by mail. This is what I finally did:
I duplicated my iBook version.(.iba file)
    I removed all the video's
I saved that version (.iba file)
I saved that ibook (.ibooks file)
I opened the original iTunesProducer package of the book (.itmsp file)
    I uploaded/delivered the file
I checked the status with the file - history option
and it said as latest status imported.
Now I'm putting the video files one by one back in the book and upload. And wait and see when it is going wrong. Up to now I have done 2 succesfull uploads with movies. So I guess the movies were the problem. To be followed....

  • [SOLVED] Xorg Error with ATI Radeon 6650M

    Dear ArchLinux Community,
this are my first steps in Arch but not in Linux. If you need more information to help me just let me know :-)
At first the basic installation works fine as I was expecting it.
After installing the Xorg (with xinit, fx86_ati, xorg-utils) I tried to start it with startx. An error appears and tells me to create the monitor config file. So I do.
Now an other error that tells me the "document 9 line 30" is wrong, cannot be done.
Sometime it tells me that xterm cannot be started or it shows up "exec twm" don't work.
This Post seems to be linked to the problem at first but there is no real solution.
Can anyone help me? Does anyone has some experience with that graficcard?
    Greetings mutagen
Last edited by mutagen (2013-12-17 09:47:30)

    OK I found the problems:
    - change the value 'tmw' in the xinit.rc to 'KWin' (KDE ;-) )
    - forgotten to install xterm
Now xorg starts and with it KDE, everything works but a bit slow as gnunn said. I will try the AMD drivers as next step.
Thanks and can be closed :-)

  • How to solve the error message "Could not activate cellular data network: PDP authentication failure"when using 3g or gPRS on safari with an iphone 4 and latest software updates

Please can someone help me to solve the error message "Could not activate cellular data network: PDP authentication failure"when using 3G or GPRS on safari with an iphone 4GS and latest software updates. I have tried resetting the network and phone settings. I have restored the factory settings on itunes and still the problem persists.

All iPhones sold in Japan are sold carrier locked and cannot be officially unlocked by the carrier. If you unlocked it, it was by unauthorized means (hacked), and support cannot be given to you in this forum.
Hacked iPhones are subject to countermeasures by Apple, particularly when updating the firmware. It is likely permanently re-locked or permanently disabled.

  • [Solved] xorg stuck in tty1 with nouveau driver on dell xps laptop

hi all, struggling with xorg on dell xps with nouveau driver.
Nouveau works under ubuntu LTS so no hardware problem.
Followed the arch wiki for installation and all related links (nouveau, xorg etc.)
startx (and startxfce4): it seems like xserver has started but I'm stuck
in tty1 still seeing the text output of the command; ctrl-c doesn't work and  I need to log into tty2 to be able to kill the xserver.
Had to create an Xorg.conf with Xorg :0 -configure (else xserver couldn't start with fatal error screen not found).
    Xorg.log.0 shows no EE errors.
Tried all the tricks read on the wiki, e.g. downgraded the kernel, deleted ~/.xinitrc, deleted xorg.conf (also tried
a minimal xorg.conf with only the screen section), blacklisted  modules i915 and intel_agp, checked there's no vga=
options in my bootloader.  Tried some other tricks found on forum posts to no avail.
    Any suggestions highly appreciated.

I don't think this possible, if you have two video cards and only want to use the nvidia, you need to have a possibility to disable the intel in your bios.
If this is not possible, then first install the intel driver, then Bumblebee and 'friends'
I overlooked that issue. It seems under ubuntu both cards are used together and it works automagically without bumblebee. I was hoping to achieve the same on arch,
given bumblebee's wiki says: "Warning: Bumblebee is still under heavy development! But your help is very welcome."
All Bumblebee is under heavy development, true, but no reason to not install it, I mean Arch is under heavy development too....
As for Ubuntu, I don't use it, and have no plans to do so, but tell me, how are they putting it together?
Just open the Bumblebee wiki, read carefully, and install it.
Take extra care with nvidia, you then need to reinstall Intel too.
Basically as advised in the install guide:
    pacman -S xorg-server xorg-server-utils xorg-xinit
    pacman -S xorg-twm xorg-xclock xterm
I wanted to know if you installed the Xorg group, but you did it the right way.

  • Kernel broken. Pacman errors with PGP sig [solved]

I had the unlucky situation to have a power failure in the middle of a Kernel upgrade using Pacman. System came back up and the kernel was not installed. So I have NO working OS on the machine.
I can boot into a live USB environment and chroot into my install. I can run Pacman, and thought I could just pacman -S linux and let it do it's thing and I'd be all good. but... I get package signature PGP verification error message and cannot install anything with Pacman.
Of course, the error with the Kernel install happened before Daylight savings time, and now we're INTO DST, so I suspect it's a "time" issue as reported on the Wiki.
timedatectl will not work in the chroot environment. Can't connect to dbus. I am totally migrated to a systemd install, but systemctl enable dbus.service does not start the dbus from within the chroot environment. So I cannot even see if my chroot environment is on the right time. 'cal' works and shows the proper date, which I can change in the BIOS to whatever I want.
running ntpd first doesn't fix the error with Pacman.
    Any ideas?
Last edited by hooya (2013-03-16 20:02:35)

I tried that and didn't work either, because there were files left behind in the initial installation that was broken. Even after removing them I got disk spacer errors (there was no disk space issue, so that's weird).
I did get it finally though. I ended up using the initial pacstrap install script to install the base packages as per the Beginner Install Guide (and selected only option 26 "Linux") which did work, probably because it was operating from outside of the chroot environment. A bit "hacky" but I'm at least typing this message from my normal installation this time!
