[SOLVED] Battery not detected by acpi

Hello everyone.  I am new to Arch Linux (loving it so far) and fairly new with Linux in general (tried a few distributions, Gentoo being the one I last tried).  I just recently got an Acer Aspire 3004WLCI Laptop. and decided to put arch on it.  I managed to get everything else to work (wireless, ect.) but I can't get it to recognise my battery.
In KDE it always says I have no battery inserted (-1% charge).
In dmesg I keep getting this message:
ACPI-0339: *** Error: Looking up [Z007] in namespace, AE_NOT_FOUND
search_node dbbca260 start_node dbbca260 return_node 00000000
    ACPI-0508: *** Error: Method execution failed [_SB_.BAT1._BST] (Node dbbcaf80), AE_NOT_FOUND
I have searched around a bit on these forums and other places, but the things I have tried so far have not worked.  Anyone know anything I can try?
Thanks in advance!

OK I had to recompile my DSDT file, which I have done succesfully.  But now I am having a problem patching them into my kernel.  I was trying to follow the directions here http://acpi.sourceforge.net/wiki/index. … rideTables
When I get to the part where it says
patch -p1 -i /PATH/TO/osl.diff
I replace the path with the file that is shown later on that page.  When I run the command I get this message:
can't find file to patch at input line 5
Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?
The text leading up to this was:
|--- linux/drivers/acpi/osl.c.orig
|
|+++ linux/drivers/acpi/osl.c
|
File to patch:
And from there I don't know what to do.
I have never patched a kernel before, so I probably am just missing something simple, can anyone help?
As before, thanks in advance.

    Hi there,
I have the Lenovo G710. I haven't used the battery for a while now and  I use the laptop by connecting the powerlead directly to mains power outlet.  I decided today to plug the battery in. The battery indicator lights up.
Windows 8.1 does not detect the battery and it states "No Battery Detected".
    What i have tried:
I have installed all the latest Windows Updates and it still doesnt detect the battery.
I even installed the latest chipset drivers for this laptop and it still doesnt detect it. The only update i cannot install is the BIOS update because it states that "Battery Not Detected".
I uninstalled the following from Device Manager: Microsoft ACPI compliant Control Method Battery. Switched off the laptopRemoved the battery packRemoved the AC power lead from the laptopHeld the power button for 30 seconds to drain the batteryReconnect the battery packReconnect the AC power leadTurn the laptop on.Battery not detected.
Can anyone assist what i could do next please?

  • My early 2011 MacBook Pro says battery not detected and does not work with a new battery either. Works only with the charger plugged in.

About a year back i had replaced the MLB of my early 2011 macbook pro and it was all working fine. A month back my battery went dead saying "Battery Not Detected". I went to Ample technologies, Bangalore, India and gave it for diagnosis. Ample technologies are the authorized Apple support service in Bangalore, India. After 3 days and no phone calls they email me that "They feel that the MLB MIGHT be the problem and they want to test it by replacing the MLB and i have to pay for their testing". I had already spent 40k indian rupees ($700) less than a year back to replace an MLB and now they want to replace it again at the cost of 43k ($750) indian rupees. I have no idea what to do now. Spending 80k indian rupees ($1400) in less than a year to replace the MLB twice sounds unfair to me. Can someone help me out here ? Is there a valid warranty period applicable , since i have changed the MLB a year back ?

  • Qosmio G10-133 - Battery not detected following Windows 7 upgrade

Hello, I hope someone can help my frustrations here.
Over the last couple of weeks I have successfully upgraded my laptop to Windows 7, increased memory to 2gb, purchased new laptop power lead, brand new battery and and resolved every issue that Windows 7 threw at me. The laptop and works like a dream other than one issue that seems to have got worst.
The laptop no longer recognises the new battery.(picture of battery with cross through it and a power plug) For approximately a week after installing the battery it worked okay but now will not detect it all. I have no errors in the device manager and windows has recognised the ACPI battery entries etc and has no issues. I have also loaded the Toshiba value added package that Windows 7 found for me but still nothing. The battery does not even charge although sometimes the battery works for around 30 secs on boot up if the battery is removed and put back in, and then stops again (once Windows has loaded) I have tried numerous things like disabling driver, reinstalling battery etc but nothing. I did try the battery iniitally with Windows XP and worked fine.
I have also searched the web and have seen many other laptops with Windows 7 have had this problem, including Toshibas. Some say update the BIOS but Toshiba have not released an upgrade since the original one in 2004 (which is for WIn XP Media Center) and there are no settings in my BIOS for ACPI etc.
Also, I cannot calibrate the battery as I cannot do anything with it. I dont think this is an issue though.
If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it or any links to any drivers etc.
If this is sorted my laptop should last for another 5 years!
    Thanks for reading this.
    Dickie

    Hi
First of all I doubt that many other notebooks with Windows 7 have this issue. I never heard about this and normally the battery charging will not be controlled from the OS. It happens automatically and your battery will be charged if the AC/DC is plugged in. So the OS doesnt affect this!
To be honest I also dont know why your battery isnt detected but what happens if you power off the notebook and leave the AC/DC adaptor connected for 24 hours? After this it should be possible to work on battery minute for 1 hour or more.
If not it seems to be a hardware issue Maybe the battery doesnt work properly anymore and should be replaced. You should contact the dealer where you purchased it
By the way: Here are some nice and interesting tips about battery:

  • Battery Not Detected

I have a E420 (1141-CT0) & ran the System Update Manager and installed the battery firmware update that was advertised. Now, the battery is not detected. Is there an option to rollback a firmware update?
    Thanks a lot
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Could you please confirm whether the firmware update was successful?
Try performing the below troubleshooting steps.
Unplug AC adapter and Shutdown the system. Remove battery, Connect AC Adapter and Start windows. Uninstall Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery from device manager under the battery tab. Shutdown, Remove AC Adapter, Install battery, Reattach AC Adapter. Now, Power up and check.
Ensure that chipset drivers are updated to the latest version.
    Hope this helps!
    Best regards,
    Mithun.

At first it didn't charge.  But after doing a power reset, it charged up.  And then I did a charge/discharge cycle.  The problem is that right after I did my first discharge to break it in, the battery was not detected again.  So I ran through everything.  Power cycles.  Uninstalled ACPI battery driver and reinstallled it to no avail  Updated my bios to 1.80, since there's not 3.0 version for my lappy model.  My old battery still charges though my laptop still tells me it needs to be replaced.
    So...
Is there anything more I can do?  Should I just return it and get a new replacement battery or is there still anything else that can be done?  Was it just not compatible with my laptop even though it said it was?  Any help would be great!  Thanks!

You may want to look at the fixes in this article:
Battery not charging, not being recognized, or losing charge
If it still doesn't work, there may be a problem with the battery or a hardware problem in the laptop itself.

  • *SOLVED* Device not detected/ No driver installed for X-FI Fatal

OK!!!! the only reason I signed up here was to post that I have (for me) solved my problem.
Before I get into details this occurred on a fresh system with latest drivers for hardware used.
The problem was installing my X-Fi card on my 680i m/b (striker extreme).. when I would install the driver it would simply crash the computer and when it started up the hardware was not detected to used the software and the device manager said no driver installed.. I tried everything.. I installed the driver in safe mode (yay it worked without crashing) then I booted for windows only to have it blue screen for a second and restart... repeating the cycle.. so i reinstalled windows again... I tried installing the driver different ways in windows.. nothing worked... I gave up...
    BUT!!!
today while i was at work I decided I would try one last thing.
this is what got it going. I have SLI 8800ultras that covered the PCI slot on the bottom of my board and I though I would try the card in this slot to see if it worked there... so I disabled SLI took out my bottom card put in the sound card in the bottom slot, installed the driver... It installed 00% no crash... even better it worked after the restart!!!... so then I had to test if it worked in the top slot so I powered down, moved it up to my top PCI slot and windows auto set the driver for it (as it was already installed) It worked in the top slot now... Finally I put in the second 8800 to make sure it worked with this slot in use... It still worked fine with SLI enabled. because I was unhappy with the mess I made installing drivers all the time as I did with the many crashes I decided to do a fresh install of windows making this card work from the start so here is what you need to do if you have a 680i board with SLI. this is exactly what i did with my fresh install.
    install only one GPU card..
Put the X-FI in a different slot that isn't giving you problems
    Install windows
    Install service pack 2
    install your chipset drivers
    install sound card drivers
power down, change sound card to permanent slot
    test - power down
put in the second GPU card
    install GPU drivers
Good luck you all having this problem.. I hope my solution helps you.
    Bryan

    I think I?got a similar?problem earlier today when I was messing around with?onboard audio?that I later removed and after unplugging a?USB headset.
Have you checked the device manager, is there any higlighted hardware that has a exclamation mark next to it.
I fixed the issue by simply uninstalling the WDM device with the exclamation mark and restarted.

  • S540 Battery not detected in Windows 10

HI All,  Just upgraded to Windows 10, but I'm now finding out that the new Lenovo Companion or even the Lenovo Settings app will not detect the battery. I've installed the System Interface foundation etc. but to no avail. Battery is no longer charging to 50% , but to full and is no longer detected at all.  Have any of you seen this happen too?

Good day and welcome to the community.

  • Why is my battery not detected?

EliteBook 8460p Notebook PC running Win7 Pro 64 doesn't detect battery.  Boots and runs perfectly normal with ac power, but immediately shuts off (not shuts down... off!) when ac power disconnected.  Also, when trying to flash BIOS update, ac power is somehow not detected.  Help if you hae any ideas.
    Thanks!

Turning off when you remove the ac power could likely be just a dead battery. How old is the battery? What concerns me more is that a BIOS flash will not detect that an AC adapter is connected. So it senses that the laptop is running on battery? What does the Windows power icon say (lower right corner)? Does it detect battery or say the battery is charging?

  • Satellite A300d - New battery not detected

    I recently got a new battery PA3533U-1B RS/AS for my aged Satellite A 300d.
When I place the new battery in the laptop, unplugged, press power button, the red battery indicator flashes several times, no power.
When i plug in the mains to the laptop, the red battery indicator stays red as-though charging, once windows has loaded the battery shows as Not Detected.
I have checked connection and gone through device manager- unistall/install but come to no luck. This is the 3rd replacement battery I've had from this company who have a very positive review. Is it my laptop or the battery?
I do have a good faithful 20 minutes battery that recognises every time and charges without a problem.
If you could please help it would actually stop me from going crazy, thanks in advance :)

    Hi Paolo,
Thanks for your reply. I have kept the battery on charge for 12 hours +, both the 2nd and 3rd battery I have received, and neither of them show as detected.
When the laptop is off, new battery in, ac in, red light stays on for about an hour then it continuously flashes. This happens with both. After charging it won't turn on until insert ac, then when windows loads, bat not detected.
When I put my original battery in in turns on without ac, and battery shows and info correct.
I will speak to the dealer again, I returned the 1st battery, once i reported 2nd one faulty, he sent me a 3rd. The dealer has really positive feedback and good comment, it's just baffling?!
    Thanks again for your help.

  • MacBook Spillage - Battery Not Detected! - Every Thing Else Works Fine!

_*Okay I Don't Know If This Actually Qualifies To Be Under This Category, But It Must Have Something To Do With The Battery. Here's What Happened_.*
I Accidently Spilt Some Orange Juice On My Macbook On The Keyboard And In The Hole Between The Screen And The Keyboard Area. I Went In A Big Panic And Started Mopping Up The Spillage, Taking Every Key Off The Keyboard And Drying It, I Even Ended Up Taking The Top Bit Of The Computer Off To Dry It.
After That Struggle And Drying Up Every Bit Of The Liquid I Tried Switching On The Computer After Numerously Pressing The On Button It Managed To Boot Up And Even Into The Login Screen. I Tried Logging In But I Got That Random Error Telling Me To Restart My Computer So I Did, Once Again I Pressed It Numerous Times, And Then It Started Making An Alarm Like Noise, Eventually I Managed To Get It On And Logged In. But For Some Strange Reason My Airport Card Was Not Detected, (At This Point I Should Say It Was Plugged Into The AC Adaptor), And The Battery Had A Cross Over It, Oh And According To IStat Menus My Computer Was Running At -128 Degrees C, Very Unusual!
Now When I Spilt The Drink My Computer Was Updating, As I Had Recently Reinstalled Mac OS X Leopard 10.5, So I Tried Updating And My Computer Shut Down, This Happened A Lot Of Times And Even Shut Down During The Hard Ware Test, But I Never Managed To Get The Apple Logo Telling Me My Mac Was Booting Into OSX. So I Shut It Down And Left It For About 2 And A Half Hours Until Trying To Switch It On Again, It Worked (Well Maybe I Should Say Works) Perfectly Fine And Is What I Am Talking Off Now, As This Tragedy, Only Happened, What 3 And A Half Hours Ago. The Airport Works, My Computer Is Not Running A -128 Degrees C, Except My Battery Is Not Recognised There Is A Cross Over It, Now I Would Test Another Battery But The Only Other Person Who Has A Macbook In My House, Is Asleep As Is Is 4.00 am, In The United Kingdom!
I Don't Know Why Only My Battery Is Not Working As The Juice Went Inside My Computer And You'd Expect The CPU Or Something Else To Not Work, It's Quite Strange!
*_If Anyone Could Give Me Some Advice Or Help With This Problem It Would Be Highly Appreciated!_*
    *_Thanks In Advance!_*

    Same thing happened to me,
I spilled orange juice on my Mac and after drying I tried to restart it,
it did, and then it would shut down and get error messages. I took it to the apple repair center and they said the motherboard was damaged. They actually recommended I just buy a new one, since replacing the motherboard would cost about the same. The battery doesnt charge, I have to use it with the ac adapter, and a few weeks ago, the hard drive crashed. I had to go and replace that. Then, the battery on my mac started to swell and when I took it in they said the battery had been recalled, so they replaced it. I just got it yesterday, dont need it since it wont charge, however this morning my mac started to shut down automatically, it did it over and over again until I took out the battery. Strange........... So far it hasnt shut down,
Thats my luck with my Mac,
    Hope this helps

    Hey guys,
I have a ASUS P8P67 motherboard which does not seem to be able to spot my EFI partition and/or EFI files. It works with a MBR partition on my flash drive, but not on my GPT partitioned SSD.
I want to be able to use EFISTUB booting, which I've gotten working using my flash drive, so the problem right now is that it does not detect my .efi files on the SSD.
This is what my partition looks like ATM, using gdisk -l:

that was the rightest direction. i do not want to start a holywar about 'what is better x86 or x64... the reason is that i've just installed and configurated my system and everything works amasingly well... even bumblebee! so i just use pae kernel for now.... thanks for the answer!

Yeah, thnx! i've been using HP laptop with AMD turion x64 1,8 Ghz and ATI x200M for like 7 years.... i loved that old man... but when even flash video began to look like a comix.... i ve passed it away, went to the shop and grabbed this Lenovo machine... i wanted i7 but 1,5 kilobucks is too much to pay for a typing machine (it is the main usage of my laptop) for me... thanx everyone for a support. marking as solved.
