[SOLVED] bin32 applications won't run

I have problems with running bin32 apps.
$ skype
bash: /usr/bin/skype: No such file or directory
$ ls -l /usr/bin | grep skype
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root   18567888 Feb 22 00:13 skype
$ /usr/bin/wine
bash: /usr/bin/wine: No such file or directory
$ googleearth
/usr/bin/googleearth: line 16: /opt/google-earth/googleearth-bin: No such file or directory
/usr/bin/googleearth: line 16: /opt/google-earth/googleearth-bin: Success
After today's bluez upgrade there were some errors connected with ldconfig, but I can't find them in logs. I tried to reinstall skype but it didn't help. The solution from http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=91470 didn't help too, because there is no /usr/X11R6/lib or /usr/lib32 in my ld.so.conf.
Can someone help me?

I downloaded the Windows 64-bit version of iTunes, but the application won't run. It comes up with Apple Application Support - Error 2.  How can I fix this? I have uninstalled and reinstalled it several times and it still doesn't work.

What computer do you have?  is it 32 or 64 bit operating system?

  • What windows applications won't run on a mac?

I'm about to go from PC to Mac and would like to get an understanding of what common applications won't run on a Mac.  I'm not interested in things like MS Office and such which I know have Apple version, but I'm interested in Adobe Acrobat, Flash Player, Others such as Garmin, eBay Turbo Lister, Nikon View, etc.  Seems to me I've heard that Flash files won't work on Apple Products.  Are there apps that will allow some of these to run?
I don't think I have too many to worry about but I'd appreciate hearing what challenges others have had and what to expect in general.

All Office and Adobe products available on both platforms. Flash works fine on a Mac, just not on iDevices like iPads or iPhones.
Others that you've listed just find out if the developers have a Mac version. Do some research.

  • Certain applications won't run

Certain applications won't run. Mail, Safari (I'm sending this with Firefox), and now Installer. The disc now verifies although I had to repair the disc earlier. This started when trash-emptying wouldn't complete. Disc Utility from the Tiger install disc found what it called a minor error - a file that was a little too big (don't remember the file) and free space a little too small. Here's the crash log when I try to run the 10.4.10 PPC combo update - after a hint I got in another thread about a problem like this. I believe the same file is mentioned for any of the apps that won't run. If you have any ideas how I should proceed, please let me know. Thanks, Joe

How bad is it to try to install the combo update from the Terminal? Thanks, Joe
    Well, it's this bad:
First off, a disclaimer. I didn't think of this, and I've not tried it from the DVD, though I did check the commands on a booted system. But it looks like it should work to me.
Okay, to use Terminal on the DVD, do this:
First, open up the disk image for the updater and copy the ".pkg" or ".mpkg" file onto your desktop, since that's an easy place to find it. Eject the disk image and make sure the package file stays on the desktop. Make a note of the package's exact name, including capitalization. You'll need it later. Now, open the Terminal on your Mac and type the following:
    cd ~/Desktop; pwd
Write this path down somewhere, and keep in mind that case counts. It'll be something like "/Users/username/Desktop".
Now, take a look at the name of your hard drive. It's most likely something like "Macintosh HD". The main thing is to note any spaces in the name and note the name. I'm not sure whether auto-complete, and all the other good stuff, works in the Terminal on the DVD, so it's best to write these things down.
Now, boot from the Tiger Installer DVD and open up the Terminal app from the "Utilities" menu. Now, you need to construct a command to open up the installer package for the update package. Here's how it should look (without customization):
    "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/usr/bin/open" -a /Applications/Utilities/Installer.app "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users/username/Desktop/MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.10PPC.pkg"
A couple of things to note: first, the quotes around the first part are necessary because of the space in "Macintosh HD", same with the last part. Also, it's possible that the installer will open up the OS X installer package from the DVD as well. Just be really sure you're installing the update and not the full OS. Also, make sure you customize the username in the last part, just before "Desktop".
Finally, if you've installed any updates after the 10.4.10 update (especially security updates), it's possible that the problem with the WebKit will not be fixed, since the 10.4.10 combo installer may not install the older version of the WebKit over the newer one. In that case, you might have to do the other updates that came after 10.4.10 to eventually get back to where you should be. And all this might be in vain if some other critical file is damaged, but hasn't been updated since 10.4.0.

P.S. -- Like I said before, I haven't tried this, and didn't even think of it. I found the general procedure at, of all places, the Washington Post web site in the comments to a blog entry. Look down toward the bottom.

  • Itouch downloaded applications won't run

I have an Itouch with the 2.1 operating system. I got it a month ago and everything ran fine. I downloaded several free applications on there and now suddenly, none of them work. Everything else works, its just when I try to run the applications, they start and just stop. They say they are free apps in the Apple store. My first thought was they were demo versions. I'm trying to run Paper Football Lite, Four Free, Astro Tilt, and others. Can anyone help me figure out why they won't run? Everything else runs fine.
    Thanks!

I got an iPOD touch last week and have same problem. About 7 FREE apps, and 1 Paid for now bring up the splash screen and then it goes back to main screen - they just don't run. My touch sync fine with my authorized macintosh using my valid .MAC account, etc... Also, just upgraded the touch to 2.2 and no help.
Here's the strange thing... If I download another application - anything - all the applications start working again. I can't find a rhyme or reason, but after a few days they all stop working. I download another app - and they all work!
    Anyone?

  • Pages application won't run; documents are inaccessible.

I have been using Pages for 1.5 years. I'm using version 4.1 on Mac OS X (10.7.5). Pages won't run, and files not saved as .doc files won't open. When I select Pages from applications, or search for it in Spotlight and try to select it, there is a blip in the dock, as if the icon is going to appear, but it doesn't. When I try to access documents saved in Pages, I can find them, but nothing happens when I try to open them. No error messages of any sort pop up.
I had just installed the Freedom App, and Microsoft Office for Mac, and after reboot I noticed the Pages problem. It doesn't seem like that should matter, but before this, Pages seemed to be working fine.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Many of my applications won't run under Lion.

I used to run Tiger on a G4 Powerbook and a G4 Quicksilver.  Now I have a new iMac running Lion but it does not support my PowerPC apps such as Toast or Popcorn.  Also the drivers for many devices such as my printer, scanners and external LaCie HD aren't supported.  Replacing everything is going to be expensive - any suggestions for workarounds?  I'd also like to hear of any good DVD burning/copying applications that will run under Lion other than Roxio's.

You mentioned LaCie external hard drives - there is no driver needed for an external HD. Plug it in. If it is formatted correctly (which means it needs to be Mac OS extended (Journaled) and GUID Partition scheme (under Options) in order to be bootable on an Intel), there is nothing else you need. You may need to reformat to GUID if you're coming from a PPC. Note: back up your data first because the drive will be wiped,
I've used Toast and updated it - they usually have special update offers if you're coming from an earlier version. As for your printer and other hardware - if it is old but still works, you could keep using it with your old Mac (transfer whatever you want to print over to the old Mac and print from there) or start upgrading.

  • [SOLVED!] Conky won't run undecorated, please assist.

    Greetings,
As suggested in my other thread, I have been working on customizing a conky script that simply shows the time, date, calendar, current weather, and forecast, and I have completed it.
However I have ran into a problem. Up until I basically had it completed, it would run fine undecorated without any window borders and the like. But now it won't, and it laughs at me instead. If I want to see my conky, I have to have it decorated in the window border, which is a pain and something I don't want. I want it to simply blend in with my desktop.
Anyways, I am hoping someone can help me solve this. I know it runs. If I set it to decorate, it pops up, info and all. If I set it to undecorate, it laughs at me, but shows up lxtask and htop.

    Yes that works! Thanks!
About the widget; I used Sid's conky script from the conky screenshot as my base, it was the first conky I had tried. Though I only ended up keeping the forecast portion after editing it massively...
I think it must have been the own_window_hints throwing me off.

  • Application won't run if ressource .txt are included after deployment

I finished a project that plays .wav and .mp3 files as a SoundBox. In JDev, everything works perfectly. Once deployed, I can get the .jar to run if the 2 main .txt are not present in the .jar directory (the application uses them to load everything) but of course the window is empty. If I copy the 2 .txt in the same directory as my .jar, the .jar simply won't start. (or maybe it does and closes right away, I don't know)
I use the mp3spi1.9.5 library to read MP3 but even when I only include the .txt for .wav files, it still won't open. I made sure all the resources I need for this application are present in the right directory.
It seems like the application cannot read the .txt file once deployed. (using BufferedReader).
Any ideas as to what is provoking this and how to fix it?
    Thanks

  • QuickStart application won't run on Solaris 10 x86

Installed Weblogic 8.1 on a Solaris 10 x86 system (from the pj_server814_generic.jar) using the graphical interface.
At the end of the install, attempted to run the QuickStart application, and nothing happened.
Tried to run it from the <WL_HOME>/common/bin directory, and got the message:
    org/apache/xalan/processor/TransformerFactoryImpl
Unable to create graphical environment for QuickStartFrame.
Please use a console that supports a Java based GUI.
I installed Weblogic (and Oracle, also) using Java based GUI installers.
Have been unable to locate any information to help overcome this problem.
Has anyone run into this, and/or have any ideas on how to make QuickStart application run?

    I have the same proble.
If I specify -log=/tmp/log at startup, the log file reports a missing class file.

  • Applications won't run

When I open iCloud with my username and password things are slow but eventually open to the applications. When I click on contacts or anything for that matter, they won't open.  Everything worked fine for the first few days and now "app can't open".

Try rebooting the iPad by pressing and holding the on/off and home buttons simultaneously until the screen goes blank and you see the apple logo. It should take about 10-15 seconds to reboot.

  • Swing application won't run

    Hi
    I'm a Java-newbie.
I've just created a small application (not an applet!).
It runs fine on my work computer were I developed it.
But if I transfer the .jar to, and try to run it on my home computer I get
    ClassNotFoundExceptions on the Swing classes.
I have the "Java Runtime Environment Version 5.0 Update 8" installed on my home computer.
    Why does it not work?

OK, I get your point, let me rephrase my question:
I'm trying to run a java application,
which does not have any syntactical errors since it compiles and runs on my development computer without any errors or warnings.
The application is built in NetBeans IDE 5.0 (on a winXP) and uses components from the javax.swing package.
On my other computer (winXP) I get ClassNotFoundExceptions on the swing classes.
So I assume, I either don't have the swing classes on that computer,
or I have them, but the java engine can't find them anyway.
    And now my new question:
Is the javax.swing package not include in the "Java Runtime Environment Version 5.0 Update 8"?
If it is not, where do I find them and how do I install them?
It seems strange to have to install a development kit just to be able to run a java application.
