[SOLVED] Can't run GDM3 Setup

Okay I've been trying to change the wallpaper for my GDM login screen. All I've managed to do after several attempts at several different methods so far is get stuck with a solid blue background. I read somewhere on here to do it through GDM 3 Settings, so I installed that from the AUR. It won't run though. I launch it and nothing happens. So I tried running it from the terminal and I got this:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/gdm3setup.py", line 8, in <module>
from lxml import etree
ImportError: No module named lxml
Apparently there's no module named lxml.
I'd be in good shape if I knew what to do about it.
*edit - I thought it might be a python dependency issue or something, so I installed python from the official repo. Still same error though.

Try python-lxml or python2-lxml (no idea whether it uses python2 or python3).
You should also mention to the maintainer that he is missing these dependencies.

    maybe I am just stupid today but I can't run sublime-text.

  • [Solved] Can't run ion3 (liblualib.so)

    I installed ion3 with pacman, which also installed lua-5.1-1 but when I try to run ion3 I get the following error:
    "ion3: error while loading shared libraries: liblualib.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
    How can I solve this probably very basic problem?

    AAAAAAActually, it is a darcs build in the current [community] package because of how ion development works, it's better to make a darcs build a week after a development snapshot.
    And yes dk, that's my exact point.  For a newer build to be made, it needs lua 5.1.  Lua 5.1 is in [testing], not [extra].
    http://archlinux.org/packages.php?id=3181
    see?  lua 5.0.2.

    Problem solved by downgrading Lua.
    Thanks
    That means, *gasp*, it's not a problem with an outdated package!  Because it's not a testing package!  If you upgrade your lua to the one in testing, you need to rebuild the package with darcs!  OMG!  I was telling the truth the whole time!  It's amazing, I know.
    Ion now builds against lua 5.1.  Until 5.1 is in [extra], you wont be seeing an ion update.  You can install lua 5.1 from testing, and build the package on your own, but you will probably break other packages that depend on lua.

  • [SOLVED]Can I run a 64 bit operating system?

    I want to know if I can run a 64 bit operating system on my laptop. the lshw command says I have a 64 bit processor, so does that mean I can run a 64 bit O.S. because  almost everything else says 32 bit. So, does all my hardware have to be 64 bit, or is it only the processor that matters? I have looked on the internet and it always seems to relate only to the processor, so I don't know if the other stuff matters. My laptop came with 32 bit vista, if that matters. Sorry if this is a stupid question. Thanks.

  • [solved] Can't Run Hamster in Xfce (with Gnome 3)

    There is a great post here http://www.janhouse.lv/blog/linux/hamst … stem-tray/ how to run Hamster in the system tray now that Gnome 3 has come out.
    I tried it but it's failing for me.
    I can't even run hamster alone if I "cd src" and then run it I get:
    [src]$ ./hamster-applet -w
    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "./hamster-applet", line 22, in <module>
    import gtk, gnomeapplet
    ImportError: No module named gnomeapplet
    I have installed every package I can think of to get gnomeapplet and I have gnome-panel-3 and gnome-applets-2 but it doesn't seem to help. My DE is Xfce.
    Any ideas?

    I presume you meant to then run makepkg, which I did, but it fails:
    [kirk@arch trunk]$ makepkg
    ==> Making package: hamster-applet 2.32.1-1 (Wed May 4 13:40:04 IDT 2011)
    ==> Checking runtime dependencies...
    ==> Missing Dependencies:
    -> python-pysqlite>=2.6.0
    -> python-gnomeapplet
    ==> Checking buildtime dependencies...
    ==> ERROR: Could not resolve all dependencies.
    [kirk@arch trunk]$ sudo pacman -S python-gnomeapplet
    error: target not found: python-gnomeapplet
    [kirk@arch trunk]$ yaourt python-gnomeapplet
    [kirk@arch trunk]$
    The solution from janhouse may not be 100% correct (don't know why) but it certainly works--I'm using Hamster based on his script.

    also make sure that you current directory is in your classpath.
    eg
    export CLASSPATH=".:$CLASSPATH"
    java Test
    your issue is more likely to be classpath related, as java doesn't read the path variable, and the java executable is found

  • I can't run firefox setup

    I have a brand new computer with windows 7. I opened the firefox download page on Explorer, but when nothing comes up automatically. I clicked on "download" then, and I get a little green box on the bottom, asking if I want to open or save. Open does nothing. The save, opens a pop up box stating that the download failed. "retry...." Nothing works. Is there a different solution? Thank you.

    It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with installing Firefox.
    You can try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes installing work.

    Input/output error is probably caused by a corrupted install medium. You might try to verify the installation medium using some magic like:
    dd if=/PATH/TO/CD bs=2048 | head -c `du -b /PATH/TO/ISO` | md5sum -
    but it is probably easier to burn a new CD anyway

  • [Solved] Postfixadmin, can't run setup.php

    First time for me to try setting up any server stuff with arch, so forgive if I come across as clueless
    The story is I followed this page from the arch wiki:  https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/SO … #SMTP-AUTH to setup postfix, dovecot and postfixadmin (without smtp-auth as I have to use my isp's server for outgoing mail) and have a few issues but I think the first place I need to start is postfixadmin.  Haven't been able to get it to run the setup.php file which as far a I can see will create the mysql tables mapped in postfix's main.cf file
    When I try running http://mydomain/postfixadmin/setup.php I get this error:
    Please edit config.inc.php - change $CONF['configured'] to true after setting your database settings
    In my /srv/http/postfixadmin/config_inc.php file I have already set this like so:
    $CONF['configured'] = true;
    I'm thinking maybe I did something wrong in the config_inc.php file, I'm able to use phpmyadmin so I don't think it's an issue with my apache/php installation, here's my full /srv/http/postfixadmin/config_inc.php file in case anyone can spot anything:

    Any suggestions on what I can try to get postfixadmin's setup.php to run will be much appreciated

    Just worked out I had an errant dns sending me to a postfixadmin on another machine which I'd never used ... god do I feel stupid!
    Now that the url is sendng me to the correct machine (and copy of postfixadmin) I'm getting a 403 permissions errors when I try to open setup.php, the config.inc.php I posted btw is the correct one
    When following the arch wiki page I put a symlink called postfixadmin in /srv/http which points to /usr/share/webapps/postfixAdmin and then followed this part of the wiki to set permissions:
    chown -R nobody:nobody /home/httpd/html/postfixadmin-2.1.0/
    cd /home/httpd/html/postfixadmin/
    chmod 640 *.php
    cd /home/httpd/html/postfixadmin/admin/
    chmod 640 *.php
    cd /home/httpd/html/postfixadmin/images/
    chmod 640 *.png
    cd /home/httpd/html/postfixadmin/languages/
    chmod 640 *.lang
    cd /home/httpd/html/postfixadmin/templates/
    chmod 640 *.php
    cd /home/httpd/html/postfixadmin/users/
    chmod 640 *.php
    That's directly from the wiki, obviously in my case I changed the paths from /home/httpd/html to /srv//http so as to reflect my setup. Assuming the permissions on the wiki are correct I don't know why I get the 403 error when I try opening the setup.php file
    Access forbidden!
    You don't have permission to access the requested object. It is either read-protected or not readable by the server.
    If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.
    Error 403
    Any ideas?

  • In setup wizard it says "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous uninstall. Do you want to reboot now?" after uninstalling old version and trying to install new. I CAN NOT run ANY version now......HELP

    I had an old version of Firefox and uninstalled it. Then I installed the 5.0 version. BUT, in the setup wizard it says "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous uninstall of Firefox. Do you want to reboot now?" I choose "YES" and the computer reboots, but when I run the setup wizard again, it says the same thing. I have reinstalled it 8 times, and it says the same thing......I have searched my computer for it, and can't find what it's talking about!! HELP!!!!!!

    Thanks so much for your help, it is very much appreciated.

  • Setup.exe "This app can't run on your PC"

    Hello, I've been trying to install Windows 8 on my macbook pro (mid 2012) using boot camp. I was using a windows 8 .iso file with a flash drive. I got Windows 8 installed and running, but when I tried to install the boot camp drivers off of the flash drive (setup.exe) I keep getting a fullscreen error message saying "This app can't run on your PC. To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher." I've tried redownloading the windows support drivers to the flash drive but it didn't work. I'm having trouble finding any instance of this on all of the forums I checked and it is geting very frustrating. If anyone can help with this it would be much appreciated.

    I think I found the problem, I discovered that I had installed a 32 bit windows 8 instead of the 64 bit one. Based on some other threads I've seen I'm guessing this is the problem and will post again when I'm finished reinstalling the 64 bit version in case anyone is curious.

  • New 2015 MacBook Pro 13 Iris 6100 - can it run single 5k display?

    Hello.  I'm thinking about buying the new 2015 MacBook Pro 13-in with Retina Display with the new Intel Iris 6100 and pairing it with a Dell UP2715K 5k monitor to run 2560x1440 in retina mode.
    The specs on the Apple.com website for the new MacBook say the following:
    Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 3840 by 2160 pixels on up to two external displays, both at millions of colors.
    Although there's no mention of 5120 by 2880 support it can successfully run two 4k monitors simultaneously, which I would think is more demanding than a single 5k monitor.
    Can anyone offer any insight?
    Thank you.

    Allright, it took me some time to figure out why the write and read speeds were lagging compared to numerous speed tests of rMBP 13" of same year and build.
    During the setup process, when starting up your new rMBP the first time, you'll be asked whether you want to activate FileVault. I activated it.
    As soon as you turn off FileVault and restart your mac and do the speedtest again, it should give better results. As shown in the screenshot you can see that my write and read speeds are now on par with the other speedtests on the internet. Both 1080p50 and 1080p59.94 formats at 12 Bit RGB are now checked.
    Turning off FileVault solved this issue.
    P.S. the whole thing about the NVMExpress only applies to the early 2015 12" MacBook. http://www.macrumors.com/2015/04/11/nvme-mac-os-x/

  • Can't run JRE 1.2.2 applets once 1.4.1 installed

    I have an applet developed with JDK 1.2.2 (uses 3rd-party jars) which was working perfectly with the 1.2.2 plug-in
    that comes with the JDK.
    The OBJECT tag specifies the dynamic versioning clsid clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93 (which is the
    only possibility for 1.2.2?).
    However, when users who have downloaded the 1.4.1 plug-in run the applet (quite apart from the fact that I have had
    to solve a problem where plug-in 1.2.2 accepts PARAMs with initail _ but plug-in 1.4.1 does not!) they are
    getting an ExceptionInInitializerError inside one of the 3rd-party libraries. I have reproduced this
    error on my Windows XP PC (IE 6). The stack trace is as follows :
    (this has been reproduced outside of the browser using JRE 1.4.1 because the 1.4.1 plug-in console won't display,
    even after manually running the Console and setting the Show Console checkbox,
    and the icon doesn't appear on the System menu, presumably all because I have JDK 1.2.2 + plug-in installed)

    In my opinion, this has something to do with the way service providers are handled. The 3rd party jar requires
    a Security.insertProviderAt () call. My suspicion is that there is some kind of conflict with the JCE stuff
    that comes bundled with JRE 1.4.1 to handle RSA signed applets. I found a similar conflict with the 1.2.2 JRE
    when I tried to jarsign the 3rd-party libraries - I was getting, at runtime, either some kind of infinite loop hanging or
    a stack overflow due to recursive function calls.
    The fact that I can run the applet as a main and that I get the exact same error running the app from the DOS
    prompt would indicate that this is a JRE 1.4.1 problem (surely the JREs are supposed to be downwardly-
    compatible??!!! - i.e. the JRE 1.4 should run apps compiled with JDK 1.2.2 without any problem). Yes, I have
    run the app as a main with JRE 1.2.2 and all works fine.
    However, I could get around this if I could force the 1.2.2 plug-in to run instead of the 1.4.1 plug-in (quite
    how the users are going to be able to get the 1.2.2 plug-in if they have plug-in 1.4.1 installed
    without being Java experts is a problem I will leave
    till later when I try to figure out how to make my applet an RSA signed applet (which if the documentation is
    correct are only available from 1.3 onwards, hence solving this 1.4.1 problem would be VERY nice)).
    But the problem is that once the 1.4.1 plug-in is installed, it always takes precedence over lower versions.
    It's not obvious from the documentation whether older plug-in versions get executed when static versioning
    is used for the clsid in the OBJECT tag. I can't be bothered to download a 1.3 plug-in and try.
    However, unless I am mistaken, there is not a static versioning clsid for plug-in 1.2.2 ?????
    In summary, once users download a plug-in version greater than 1.2.2 (presumably by running another applet from some
    other site that requires eg 1.4.1 - I guess Sun's aim is to make the Plug-In as prevalent as possible, hence
    this is not a far-fetched scenario), it is no longer possible for my applet to be run by a 1.2.2 JRE !!!!!!!
    Because the 1.4.1 JRE is not downwardly-compatible, it can't run my 1.2.2-developed applet and my deployed
    application is broke.
    Unless I am missing something somewhere (which is possible because I am getting fed up of solving problem after
    problem with the Plug-In - eg the mess of setting the right codebase to get different plug-ins to be downloaded
    automatically - the HTML converter doesn't always set up the codebase correctly), this seems like a nightmare
    for applet developers - from one day to the next your applications will break because of Sun's plug-in upgrading.
    Please tell me there is a way to force the 1.2.2 JRE/plug-in to execute instead of 1.4.1 and that there is a
    way for the 1.2.2 plug-in to be downloaded automatically by users even when they have 1.4.1 already installed.

    Are you using signtool? I had a problem where applets stopped working when I went from JRE 1.3.1_01a to 1.3.1_07. I updated the signtool from 1.1 to 1.3 and now my applets run.
