[SOLVED]Can't start Virtual Machine

I installed virtual box and virtualbox-modules via pacman and launched 'sudo vboxbuild' but now wyen I try to start a virtual machine it gives me this error:
"Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Ubuntu Server 11.10.
Failed to open/create the internal network 'HostInterfaceNetworking-wlan0' (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND).
Failed to attach the network LUN (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND).
One of the kernel modules was not successfully loaded. Make sure that no kernel modules from an older version of VirtualBox exist. Then try to recompile and reload the kernel modules by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND).
Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole {1968b7d3-e3bf-4ceb-99e0-cb7c913317bb}"
I tried to launch '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' but it says that this directory or file does not exist.

I have already installed them.
# modprobe vboxdrv
# modprobe vboxnetflt

  • Cannot start virtual machine

    Hi,
I was recently restarting a virtual machine due to applying updates and the virtual machine froze. This vm is located on one of our clusters which are running the Hyper-V role. The vm worked just fine until the restart. I was unable to stop the vm at first
so I ended the process via Task Manager. Now I am unable to start the virtual machine.
The following error comes up when I try to start it:
The operation has failed. Failed to start virtual machine 'vmname'.
The details for this error are as follows:
Failed to bring the resource 'vmname" online. Error Code: 0x8007139f. The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation.
Can you please tell me what I should do. I am thinking of deleting the virtual machine and re-creating it but would that erase the data from the virtual drive as well? Also, if this is a good idea, how would I go about giving the vm the smae IP address?
Our environment only uses DHCP and does not allow static IP assignments.
Is there a way to go about this without having to delete the virtual machine? And without having to restart the entire Hyper-V node on which the vm is located on?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Gil Gross,
I cannot delete the vm because, although the vm is highlighted in blue, there is no delete option (when I get the drop down menu nor on the side menu).
If I use the Failover Cluster Manager to delete the vm will this delete all files associated with it as well (v-disk)?
I am thinking of maybe performing a live migration of all the vm's that are currently on the current cluster node to another cluster node (we have 4 total). Once this is done, I will restart the cluster node with the problematic vm and see if this will help.
    What do you think?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Can't create Virtual Machine

I want to create Virtual Machine used iso image (Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 update 3). I use one Shared pool master & Utility Server (in same machine), and 2 Virtual Machine Servers. I can't create Virtual Machine it display Error and log display My iso file doesn't exit! and Server Name display N/A.
and I have 1 question about topology
Once I create Server Pool I choose
    - Shared Pool Master , Utility Server , Virtual Machine Server (by default) but when I add Server (choose Virtual Machine Server)
Then I deselect Virtual Machine Server in Server Pool
I'm not sure that Server Pool can be only Shared Pool Master and Utility Server OR Shared Pool Master , Utility Server , Virtual Machine Server (by default)
    Thank you so much

    Hi Fujimaru,
a.) In each server pool, each server can have different responsibilities. In a server pool there exists exactly one server pool master, multiple (at least one) utility servers and multiple VM servers.
These roles can be on one host or distributed. So yes one server with all three roles is possible (that is the standard if you only have 1 server in your server pool).
b.) There are 2 types to create virtual machines from installation media.
If you create a PVM (paravirutalized guest) which is recommended for Linux, then you have to use an NFS share with the .iso file extracted, and cannot use the ISO file directly.
If you create a HVM (hardware virutalized guest) you can use an ISO file.
However this ISO must be imported first into the OVM Manager (Under Resources, ISO Files).
For this the ISO have to be placed in a subfolder under the iso_pool folder (in an OVS repository, e.g. /OVS).

  • Starting Virtual Machine will not start from hibernate mode.

Hi.  I had a BSOD and upon rebooting my machine one of my virtual machines is stuck in "hibernate" mode and will not boot up.
I attempted to restore to previous versions of the vmc, but that did not work.
    The error i receive is.
    "Could not enable integration functions"
    Retry or Continue.
Selecting "Continue" states "the operation failed.  The virtual machine is not running"
Does anyone have any idea how to get a VPC up and running from this situation?

  • Cannot start virtual machine on Windows Server 2012

    Hello,
I have a weird problem and have been unable to find a solution to it after two days of searching. I have Windows Server 2012 host on IBM x3500M2 machine. I set up a hyper-v platform (added the role, configured the storage and network) and created two virtual
machines. Now when I try to start either one of these VMs, using the Hyper-V manager, it throws this error:
    "machine name" could not initialize
Could not initialize machine remoting system. Error: Element not found. (0x80070490).
Could not find a usable certificate. Error: Element not found. (0x80070490)
In the event log there is a similar error with the event IDs: 3040, 12460, 12500.
I tried clearing up the certificate from vmm/personal folder to recreate it again but to no avail. I found few articles regarding a similar problem on Windows Server 2008R2 but from what I can see this problem mainly occurs with SCVMM...

    Hi,
Please restart your server or restart VMMS service to check the result.
In addition, I searched the internet and found that someone with the same issue has solved it by removing a
certificate from my Trusted Root Certificate Authorities container. The certificate is a self-signed cert generated by Remote Desktop Gateway service.
    Hope it helps.

  • Can't open Virtual Machines after "Archive and Install" of Snow Leopard OS

    Hi all,
Please bear with me while I provide a bit of background info for my issue:
I just installed a copy of Adobe Photoshop CS5, during which I was actually forced to archive and install my Snow Leopard because of an installation error. So, I inserted my Snow Leopard disc and let the OS X installer do its thing. I remember, somewhere along the way, an admonishment that this process may somehow corrupt any virtual machines that may be installed, but throwing caution to the wind, I went ahead anyway.
Well, turns out it did indeed corrupt my installation of Parallels 6 somehow, and now none of my VMs work. When I open Parallels, and select File -> Open, then select whichever VM I want, a screen flashes so quickly I can't see it (I assume it says something like "Opening XYZ Virtual Machine"), and then.......nothing.
Thus far, I have tried to uninstall and reinstall Parallels 6 (using the KB article that directs you to delete a bunch of files via Terminal after running the packaged uninstaller) and I deleted my VMs and restored backup copies of them from several months ago.
I'm now at a loss - any ideas what I can do to get Parallels to function again? I don't know if somehow permissions were modified, or if there are any other particulars that the reinstall of Snow Leopard may have made to cause parallels to be unable to open my VMs.
    Appreciate any advice in advance!

    I think I would look at if you have the latest Parallels;
    clone and backup your system and files before doing anything;
boot off 2nd hard drive and run Apple First Aid + (Disk Warrior or DG3 or TechTool Pro 5).
Always be prepared to be able to restore your system to prior point, that could even mean keeping 10.6.4 around for a month until you know 10.6.5 and 3rd party software and drivers all play nice together.
Bottom line: invest in two backup sets and methods; a copy of SuperDuper or CCC; and Disk Warrior.
I've used VBox, Fusion but not Parallels, plus Windows XP Mode, VHDs and VMs under Windows Vista/7.
I'd go back to ERASE and INSTALL and then do all your updates, then start on 3rd party with main packages first (CS5 and others). Off load, save, backup everything and anything you might need first of course.
Last but actually #1: a small 30GB OS X 10.6.5 drive volume (can take the 30GB from one of your backup drive is fine) so you can run the latest DU plus other system maintenance (DVDs get old, out of date, slow to boot, can't use Finder and other programs).

  • Start Virtual Machines with CGI-Scripts

    Hi @all,
i have running some Virtual Machines on my Mac Mini Server that i want to start and stop dynamicly. I thought i can do that with CGI-Scripts. If i know the correct URL the VM will start or stop. The problem is that the script must be started with my user-id. The _www user cannot start the VM's. Is it possible that i run a CGI-Script with a different user-id? Or do you have an other idea how can i realise my requirement.

  • Can't launch Virtual Machines in Hyper-V after sysprep on host (Server 2012)

    Hi all!
I am setting up lab environments for official Microsoft Cources. I just took a new approach which is to prepare a machine with all the VMs in Hyper-V, basically I set up the whole virtual machine environment ready-to-go, then the last thing is to sysprep
the machine and then roll it out to a whole classroom.
Acording to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2249906, this has to do with the /generalize-switch of sysprep, which is doing some spooky with SIDs that is all logical.
My question is, how can I make sure that all the VMs in the image can start up properly after the redeployment of the image?
Below is the error-msg when trying to start the virtual machine after sysprep on the host:

You should re-import the VMs on new hosts that have been deployed from a sysprepped image.  This is due to the unique security GUIDs set on each VHD which can't be re-used on a duplicate host.

As far you are using VirtualBox, your processor capabilities shouldn't counted (min from my own experience while setting up the virtual machine. Change the Domain Type under configuation node to XEN PVM and try again. Most probably the virtual machine will start running.
One more thing, enable promiscuous mode -> Allow allow with your network configuration (if bridged network is in use) for the VM Server prior you try to SSH into the virtual machine (your guest on VM Server)
All the best and post your test results
    regards,

  • Starting virtual machine in VMware Fusion disables bluetooth

When I connect to a virtual machine (winXP), I get an error message in OSX, and the bluetooth icon greys out. I can't get bluetooth back to work unless I reboot.
Powering down the virtual machine doesn't help.
Even the bluetooth icon in system preferences is gone then, like I don't have a bluetooth anymore.
    I'm on a MBP.
    Any ideas?

Go to the VM Fusion forum which is where support for the product is available.

  • Can not create "Virtual Machine" - Oracle VM 3.0.2

I seem to have everything built right as previous VMs I have created.
Steps taken so far (not sure if these are in the exact order but it is close):
    New NFS storage device.
Created a new Repository using new NFS storage.
Installed a new Oracle VM server
    Discovered New Server.
    Presented new Repository to server.
Created a new pool that used one mount point as the Cluster Storage.
Added the new Server to the new pool.
The new devices are all on a new network. I went to the Hardware - Networks tab and re-initialized the "virtual machine" setting. I even verified on the new OVM server that the new bridge is there.
Uploaded an Oracle 5.5 ISO to the repository.
So with that. I have a new pool with 1 server, a new repository that is presented, plenty of VNICs available and now I want to create a new VM guest.
I click Create Virtual Machine and go through the pages. HVM, create my Vdisk, choose the ISO I created, and click finish.
    I then receive.

Not sure what else to try, nor why it wouldn't work.

Are you connecting to the VM Manager over HTTP or HTTPS?
If you're using HTTPS, try HTTP - I had similar issues to you, which seemed to go away when I connected to the manager over HTTP.

  • Can I Manage virtual machines using SCCM? What about Amazon ec2 instances?

    Hi All,
As part of my lab environment, I would like to discover and manage virtual machines within ESXi platform and a few on Hyper-V. As part of this,
1] Do we need SC-VMM to create/discover/manage virtual machines or can this be done by using just SCCM 2012 module?
2] Does SCCM provide any connectors to public cloud services (ex: Amazon EC2 or Google Cloud services)? Can this be done using SCCM?
Any help on this would be appreciated. thanks

    Thanks Jason.
A few follow up questions just to make sure I understand you correctly:
a] Statement: I understand SCCM can manage OS within any VM (I just realized my set up has discovered 2 VM's running Win 2008 OS via AD discovery method). My confusion began after going thru SC-VMM docs. I assumed, once you have SC-VMM set up, it will discover/manage
either ESXi servers or Citrix or other vendor hypervisors and then discover VM's within the hypervisors. But as you said, SCCM can manage OS within any VM.
b] Q: my sccm set up is part of domain 'A' and its discovering systems/users as part of domain 'A'. Is there a way to discover systems as part of domain 'B'? When I look into 'discovery methods' -> Active directory system discovery -> Add a new container
-> path -> select a new container -> it selects only domain 'A'
As a result I'm not able to add a secondary domain for system discovery. IS this how its supposed to be? Discovery runs only within one domain? (or) am I missing something here?
c] When you said 'Yes, I do think (I'm not familiar with all things VMM though) that there is a connector to EC2', did you mean a connector from SCCM or a connector from VMM component?
thanks again for all the help.

  • Total noob Q: Can I run virtual machines on a MacBook Pro ?

My apologies for entering totally green, folks. My last Apple was the first Mac I bought in university, sold quickly, and preceded by a bunch of ]['s. Sadly, I have been living under a rock for 20 years, and just this year spent $200k at IBM for servers etc in a pro capacity ...
My problem is that I am not gonna buy one more piece of lame Lenovo garbage ever again, and I need a new notebook.
The time has come where I am considering the change. I'd enjoy it really, to crawl out of this shell.
Because I am a total noob, the answer to my question is probably so easy for you folks ...
I need to keep Windows for now. I need to run Linux. I need to VM a few Novell 6.5 servers as I transition them to SUSE, and I have precisely zero MacOS apps at the moment.
With this said, does it make sense to consider a fully optioned MacBook Pro to take the place of a highest-end Thinkpad, to do the above (and more), using a Virtual Machine technology ?
My first months with a Mac would probably be spent in virtual machines as I get with the program, but I really do want to get out of this situation that nobody makes a good PC anymore and the best Wintel box seems to a Mac.
I want to believe. Please help me.
