[Solved] Counter Strike Crashes when joining a server

Hello, I have been running Steam (and of course Counter Strike) through wine for quite a while. However, after the new Steam release I am unable to join any games in Counter Strike 1.6 - other steam games seem to work fine.
What happens is that I can enter CS, enter the console and everything, even get the servers, but when I try to join, hl.exe hangs, and I have to kill the process.
I have tried deleting the steam folder, running with and without any mods in counter strike, updating wine to newest revision, tried locking the motd files (as described on winehq).
Also I have tried switching between ALSA/OSS audiodrivers in wine.
I have tried everything I can think of, and run through just about every hit that google provides me. But still no luck. I hope that you have an idea to help me on the way, if not, I might have to wait Until steam releases a client for linux ..

Solution:
It seems it was a problem with running wine as if it were Windows 7, I changed this to XP and it ran right away.

  • Finder crashes when connecting to server (10.9.4)

    I have been having an issue with my Mac Mini the last few days when it tries to connect to my local server.
    The first few times I can access the server normally through Finder, but after a few goes Finder freezes (spinning beach ball on finder - other apps work ok) up completely and needs to be restarted. Once it has restarted and I re-open Finder, it freezes up again completely until I restart my computer. The same applies when I try to access the server from other apps (eg. when adding a photo from the server to something in Chrome).
    I have reset PRAM, verified/repaired disk, run CCleaner.
    Any solutions to this issue?

  • Indesign crashes when working from server

    I have two different machines that Indesign constantly crashes on when working from the mac server (mac mini 10.8.5). The servers eject and then Indesign gets the spinning beach ball. The computers must be rebooted for Indesign to run normally again. I work from my desktop and don't have any disconnet/crashing issues.
    Has anyone had similar issues?

    The server is running AFP and the users connect and mount the server share on thier desktop. They open files in Indesign from the mounted server hard drive on thier desktop.

  • Odd program crash when saving on server.

    When I go to save and I click on the drown down bar to select my recent places, etc., the program crashes. This only happens when the location is on our server. I can save to the server just fine, but if I click on the drop down tab, it never drops down then the program crashes. If my location is on the HD, it works just fine. This happens with any program.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

    Hi Vondy, try this...
    First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, move this file to the Desktop & reboot.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    In finder, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes".
    Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
    Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists. Try trashing the duplicates with a 1, and reboot.

  • Skype won't download and will crash when joining a call.

    I just got Windows 10 on July 29th (When it was released) and I installed the desktop version of skype, it was all working fine until I was forced to uninstall it because everytime I joined a call it would crash and it would not let me join the call. I then uninstalled skype and now cant re-download the desktop version or app version.

    Yes, I did. It wouldn't finish downloading in I-Tunes either, just as it did on my Iphone. Any other suggestions?

  • [SOLVED] Samba is crashing when windows clients connect

    Hi all,
    Recently started seeing weird behavior.  I installed Arch on this box a few weeks ago.  It has been working fine, up until two days ago. To my knowledge nothing has changed, so I really have no idea where to start working.
    When I try to connect to a share from  my laptop, I can browse through a few directories, but I then get the error "The specified network name is no longer available".  If I map the drive, I get errors stating that the device is already in use or something like that.  Here's some info from the logs on the server:
    Any thoughts? Samba is running the latest version.  Kernel is 2.6.34

    Never mind, problem solved.  Apparently tor generated 40 gigs worth of log files and filled up the drive, causing samba to segfault.
    Note to others: If you need to troubleshoot tor and you put the daemon in debug logging mode, make sure to change it back.
    TorFAQ wrote:"debug": for everything louder than info. It is quite loud indeed.

    There are several ways to do this, but for best results on a single installation (versus many), manually add and configure the following SAP TV variables in Notes.ini. Remember to leave a single blank line at the end of the file (a known issue with the last variable not being read):
    <b>;===Custom Start===
    MYSAPPSEPATH=<your path info goes here>\verify.pse
    MySapDebug=<True or False>
    MySAPVIEW=<the custom view name, if one is used>
    MySapSuppressEmptyTicketWarning=<True or False>
    ;===Custom End===</b>

    Just out of interest, why the old KDE?
    You may get more info if you start firefox from the command line and reproduce the crash.

  • [SOLVED] nm-applet crashes when a key is pressed in the WEP password

    I try to connect with nm-applet to a wifi network with WEP encryption, then nm-applet asks for a password. I select the password input-box and when I press any key it crashes. This is the output:
    error in libgcrypt, file visibility.c, line 821, function gcry_md_hash_buffer: called in non-operational state
    DBG: md_enable: algorithm 1 not available
    Ohhhh jeeee: gcry_md_open failed for algo 1: Invalid digest algorithmfatal error in libgcrypt, file misc.c, line 137, function _gcry_logv: internal error (fatal or bug)
    - I have installed: libgcrypt, wireless-tools, wpa_supplicant.
    - I can connect with iwconfig.
    - Same crash running as root (su/sudo).
    A package missing? Some configuration? Thank you in advance.

    I have exactly the same problem here. I do not have this problem with WPA encrypted networks, though.
    EDIT: I do not have this problem when I select WEP 64/128 Hex instead of Passphrase.

  • Skype crashes when joining calls.

    Skype goes unresponsive and then freezes my computer after joining a call. I cannot make or accept calls. Any idea why?

    Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool (32-bit option).
    Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.

  • Playing Counter Strike Source on Macbook Pro Unibody crashes constantly

    I'm running Macbook pro with the 2.8 ghz processors and 320gb 7200rpm I've boot camped my mac with a xp 32bit cd installed all the drivers from the mac os cd then installed the rest of the drivers and updates from windows update then once that was finished i went to apple.com and downloaded bootcamp 2.1 update for xp. installed steam then bought and downloaded CS. I'll load up counter strike and i turned all the visual effects to as low as they go the resolution is not high same as the ratio which is set at normal.I'll be playing counter strike and within 10 seconds of joining a server to about 4-5 minutes my computer screen will go black sounds will repeat like it froze then i have to hold the power button. At first i thought it was the laptop overheating. XP runs the fans at full speed and my laptop is sat on top of a laptop cooler with 2 fans spinning at 2000rpm. I didn't think this was enough so i put a pretty powerful house fan up next to my computer and put it on full blast. The unibody didn't even get warm it was so good at cooling but yet again 2 minutes playing CS I crashed again. Can anyone help me out? Other then the crashing and having to reset my laptop the game runes at 150fps average even the video stress test said i did 190 fps.

    After several more tests I’ve arrived at a solution.
    There seems to be a random element in Boot Camp’s installation process that creates an IRQ resource conflict in Windows. The BSOD I was getting indicated that “IRQL not less than or equal to” and a BCM.sys file was responsible for the conflict. This file is related to the Broadcom Ethernet driver.
    Reverting back to Boot Camp 2.1 actually made Counter Strike crash even sooner, but suggested to me that Boot Camp drivers were responsible. I performed a complete uninstall and reinstalled to Boot Camp 3.0. Hours of game play later and no crashes or BSOD.
    If a complete uninstall and reinstall doesn’t fix it for you the first time, try it again. I think it just has to “randomly” assign the IRQ correctly. Manually assigning the IRQ probably won’t work as Windows apparently cannot detect the conflicts until it fails.
    Direct X 10 is not responsible for the problem. I tested this by running CSS in 9.0c mode via an advanced start command and it still crashed. Oh, and I also discovered that Direct X 10 is integrated into Vista and cannot be uninstalled or rolled back.

  • Jerky graphics while playing counter strike: source

    I can't make cs:s run as smooth as it did before on my pc (yes I know windows has a different type of mouse acceleration). I've tried everything. If I enable "wait for vertical sync" it runs smooth but the mouse is slow and really annoying. When I turn "wait for vertical sync" OFF, the graphics is jerky and really annoying and I experience screen tearing, but the mouse runs pretty smooth and follows my directions pretty good, but is still annoying.
    Is there a way to fix this so I can have BOTH smooth graphics and mouse?
    ... all I want to get rid off is the jerky picture and the tearing that occurs when I'm panning.
    Does anyone know if Mac OS X Lion will fix any of these issues in Steam-bases games.
    I'v got the brand new 21,5 iMac (MC812):

    Memory: 4Gb
    HDD: 1Tb

  • Having some troubles while playing Counter Strike: Source

    Hi guys,
    Currently I'm using the Macbook Pro 13.3" 2nd version ( 2.9GHz, etc.). It's from Mid 2012 I believe. Anyway, I got it for passing my finals, so I've got it for less than a month now. And the thing is, I'm not really satisfied with the way it works. Please note that I'm not talking about the operating system. I feel that the performance is pretty poor, the battery dies on me really quick and it gets extremely hot. Not warm, but HOT. I could fry an egg on the bottom of my laptop.
    I would expect something that costs so much, to work perfectly.
    My apologies, I'm going off topic.
    Whilest playing Counter Strike: Source, which should work perfectly fine on a MacBook Pro, I've noticed a rather poor performance. It shocks a lot. It's not "lag", because I have it on all the servers, even where my internet connection is around the 15 ( which is really good, the lower the better).
    This is my very first laptop so I'm not sure what to do and how to use one properly. If all these symptoms are considered normal, then I would like to apologize in advance.
    Kind regards,
    Patrick

  • Visual Studio 2005 crashes when referencing ALI 6.5 portal server API

    Visual Studio 2005 crashes when referencing ALI 6.5 portal server API
    We are building new portlets in .NET 2.0 to that access the ALI 6.5 server API and are experienceing the folowing scenario:
    I create a brand new project in Visual Studio (2005 with SP1 on Win2k3 R2 SP2) using the ALI Portal Project template that is provided with the application accelerator 1.1. This portlet will need to perform portal server searches so I begin by adding references to the following assemblies from C:\bea\alui\ptportal\6.5\bin\assemblies:
    openconfig.dll
    opencounters.dll
    opencache.dll
    openhttp.dll
    openssl.dll
    opentempfile.dll
    plumtreeserver.dll
    ptportalobjects.dll
    I then type in something like below to start up the portal server objects.
    protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
    IOKContext context = OKConfigFactory.createInstance("C:\\bea\\alui\\settings\\", "portal");
    PortalObjectsFactory.Init(context);
    this.Response.Write("Portal Objects Initiallized");
    Some moments later Visual Studio will crash. It has happened before I have entered any code, after I have started typing code and on builds. It seems intermittent but usually occurs within a minute of interacting with this Visual Studio project. I actually managed to build once and have had success accessing this page in Explorer to validate the portal server objects are getting initialized and referenced correctly.
    I thought this was a problem with my personal development environment. So I tried this on other machines: another Win2k3 ALI 6.5 dev portal server and another server with Visual Studio 2005 that I installed the 6.5 portal on just for testing this. The exact behavior listed above is occurring on three development machines here (crashing devenv.exe when portal references are made or loading a project with portal references). Since this does not seem to be isolated to a single development machine, is there any course of action that anyone would suggest to help solve this?
    thanks,
    Troy Rackley

    It turns out that this is only a problem with Visual Studio using the ALI templates or creating any projects using the "New... Web site" functionality of 2005. I was a ble to create a C#... ASP.net Web Application project and add the references to the idk and the local portal server APIs manually without devenv.exe crashes.
    So, the work around I have found if your projects needs to access both the portal server API and the remote API is to create the project with:
    New... Project... Visual C#... ASP.NET Web Application
    and NOT
    New... Web Site... ASP.NET Web Site (or ALI Portlet Project)
    Anyone know why this is the case?
    Thanks.
    Troy

    Thanks Mitesh for your response.
    We have followed your advice on using the 901 driver and updating the
    config.xml file. Alas it has not stopped the Solaris WLS from
    crashing.Actually, Mitesh sugested you replacing weblogic driver
    with oracle one. As it follows from the stacktrace, it has
    not been done.
    I'd also recommend moving to oracle thin driver as it
    doesn't have native code thus is more stable.

    In addition to this we tried using WLS 6.1 SP2 on a Win2000 box

    So now we have a situation where - we can crash either server with a
    call to a function. We can now run the spcursors.java example without
    problem. The procedure that does crash the WLS can be run successfully
    from within sqlplus (it involves multiple subqueries and outer joins).
    FYI - the cursors we are returning in the function are weak cursor
    types (TYPE ref_cursor IS REF CURSOR)
    Any other suggestions greatly welcomed.

    Please do the following:
    Make sure you have login delay sec=1 for connection pool in config.xml
    Should have TestConnOnReserve=true
    and use 901 driver instead of 817 driver. Using suggested driver, stillyou can connect to
    your original database.
    Thanks,

    We are experiencing a problem that causes our Weblogic Server to crash
    when a JDBC call is made to our Oracle database.
    Host Details
    Operating System: Solaris Version 8
    SunOS 5.8 Generic_108528-15 sun4u sparc SUNW,UltraAX-i2
    WebLogic Server 6.1 SP1 09/18/2001 14:28:44 #138716
    Oracle8i Enterprise Edition Release 8.1.7.4.0 - Production
    JDBC Driver Weblogic JDriver for Oracle
    The jdbc command that causes the problem is similar the spcursor
    example code file:
    // Here we prepare a CallableStatement using a WebLogic extension
    // to JDBC that supports binding an Oracle cursor to an output
    // parameter. Register the output parameter type as OTHER . . .
    cstmt =
    (weblogic.jdbc.common.OracleCallableStatement)conn.prepareCall("BEGIN
    OPEN ? FOR select * from emp; END;");
    cstmt.registerOutParameter(1, java.sql.Types.OTHER);
    The crash happens when the re.next() method is invoked after the
    execute()
    This is the core dump message that is generated:
