[SOLVED] Different versions of catalyst-utils

I updated the system today and wasn't able to boot intoo X. After all the reason for that was that I had installed a newer version of catalyst-utils that doesn't support my video-card. There is community/catalyst-utils 12.8-0.3 and catalyst-hd234k/catalyst-utils 12.6-1. I can only use the later.
Still when I run a system update pacman want's to update to the community package. How can I prevent?

I don't want to skip any further updates. I'm using a repository for older ati cards, eg catalyst-hd234k, the community repository is for the newer cards.. Problem is that both packages have the same name and the community one has the newer version. I'd need a way to somewho blacklist the community version.
I don't know how this was handled before, mayb the version numbers where the same? Community version was updated today which seems to have caused the problem..

[SOLVED]Different versions of installed and loaded kernel

After a system upgrade I have issues booting.
Kernel was updated from 3.8.8-2 to 3.8.10-1.
systemctl --failed says slim, systemd-modules-load and ufw services failed. I'm able to log in and I can see that loaded kernel is 3.8.8, but pacman says the installed one is 3.8.10.
Upgrade process didn't generate any error message, pacman.log also shows that image generations were successful and they were created on /boot (separate partition).
It's a laptop, I have UEFI mode disabled in BIOS. Linux-lts is installed, too, same problem.
Any idea why is this issue and how can be solved? Thanks. I didn't find a solution among the topics, however I saw similar issues.
PS: systemctl's output doesn't break long lines, just shortens them. Any way to make them readable?

ls-l /boot shows that the files are old, so they were not updated during the system update.

Exactly.
I have files in /lib/modules/3.8.10-1-ARCH
I mounted my root partition from liveCD and /boot is empty.
It's LUKS encryptied partition in case it counts.

Update:
First I downgraded to 3.8.8 and I was able to boot with it. Then I had to remove manually some files. Seemed that virtualbox-host-modules was corrupted, no package owned the files in /lib/modules/extramodules-3.8. After I reinstalled it and removed netcfg as well (using networkmanager for the laptop anyway) I managed to update kernel, mkinitcpio run successfully and created the images.
I still don't understand why the image files weren't updated or why there wasn't any error message...

Different versions of a library on the server

Hi,
is it possible to have different versions of the same library on the server?
The reason for this is that we have some utility classes which should be deployed on the server as a library (because they are used by many projects). But the different versions of the utility classes are not necessarily compatible, which means that some projects still need to reference the old versions of the utility classes.
Or is the only solution in this case to inculde a jar-file with the utility classes in every project and thus not referencing a library at all?

No, it's not possible to have different versions of the same library (or any other type of component) on the server. You can also have a look at Two versions of a JAR library.

Running executables that have been compiled with different versions of a same vi

I am writing a LabVIEW 7 program on Windwos (NT 4.0 up through XP) that will have to simultaneously call and run at least two executable modules. Both of these modules will be written using some of the same utility vis from my user libraries. How can I run the two modules if they have each been compiled using different versions of the utility libraries (i.e. the two executables will have vis with the same name but with slightly different code)?
I know i could dynamically call each vi by reference node, but that can get a bit cumbersome with dozens of vis...

Unfortunately, LabVIEW keeps track of the different VIs in memory using the VI's name. Therefore, if you want to load multiple executables that use the same VIs but with different code, you will want to rename those VIs. LabVIEW cannot distinguish between 2 VIs with the same name but with different code. Dynamically calling the VIs using VI Server, like you mentioned, will also potentially cause problems because the executables might try to load same VI name into LabVIEW memory at a time and this will still causes problems.
My suggestion would therefore to be to rename the utility VIs to another name and save it as a custom subVI in that program. Then, make sure to include that custom subVI in the App Builder executable and you should b
e golden.

[SOLVED]catalyst-utils and mesa-libgl are in conflict

I have this weird issue with pacman, I cant find mesa-libgl (so I cant remove it) and its in conflic with catalyst-utils.

In your case it conflicts with catalyst-utils, not with nvidia-libgl.

Yes, I knew it conflicted with catalyst-utils that why I made a new thread. In that thread it got solved by waiting. For me, Im having this problem since some days, and now I got some time to post here and try to fix it.

How do I get my macmini running Mountain Lion to see my Canon USB printer connected to my Airport Extreme? I have a macbook pro running leopard and that works fine. The versions of airport utility are different and I can't even see the printer from new 1

I am having trouble seeing my usb printer from my second gen airport extreme using the newest version of airport utility under Mountain Lion. UGH! And while I can see and network to my Canon IP5000 from my macbook pro running leopard, I can't from my new macmini running Mountain Lion. Any help would be appreciated in configuring my macmini so it can see the Canon IP5000 on the airport extreme. Don't want to "share" the printer from the laptop because that would be a cludge. I solved this one based on another post. Turned out I needed the snow leopard IP5000 driver. I had just copied over the leopard driver (I had saved my .dmg file) and installed that but it didn't work. So I downloaded the latest driver which turned out to be for snow leopard and I am guessing since it is 64bit that is why it worked and the leopard driver didn't. Anyway, I also had to hook the printer up via usb to the mac mini to get it to work locally before the O/S would see it over Bonjour via the airport extreme.

Is it possible to choose different version of flash player when I publish my website using flash catalyst? Currently it is askinf for flash player 10.2 in order to play. I want to lower down the version of flash player required in order to let more users view my project.

[SOLVED] Intel+Compiz+Catalyst-utils = VERY strange error!

So,
I have an intel graphics card and am using the intel i8x0 driver - but compiz fusion refuses to run unless I have catalyst-utils present - what gives? Also the latest catalyst-utils breaks CF and I can't pin it in pacman.conf using HoldPkg.
This is very peculiar, any thoughts?

Disk utility is for different version than OS X

Hi. I updated my OS from Leopard to Snow Leopard. The OS version is now 10.6.8. But when launcing my disk utility I get an error message saying that "the version of Disk Utility cannot be used with current Mac OS X version. You have a Disk Utility version 10.5.8."
Does anyone know why the Disk Utility did not get updated with OS update and how to update it manually?

If you moved Disk Utility from the Applications -> Utilities folder, it might not get updated. The same is true with any prebundled applications, or installed applications. Many are coded only to work from their preinstalled locations. If clutter is an issue, use Aliases, the Finder sidebar, and Dock to make shortcuts to these programs. http://www.charlessoft.com/ Pacifist lets you extract software from installers, and then running the appropriate combo update from* http://www.macmaps.com/jaguarleopard.html over the existing system (10.6.8 combo over a 10.6.8 system will ensure any Apple software is up to date if it is in its prescribed folder.

The airport extreme at my parent's house has not had its firmware update in some time and it keeps dropping the internet connection and needing to be reset.
I went to update firmware and opened up airport utilities (I'm running airport 6.0 on Mountain Lion, 10.7.4). Everytime I open the airport utility I get the following message: "

I've followed the link and tried to update firmwares but none are available and the print says that airport utility will look to see if firmware are available and load them as necessary when prompted by user.
One link said the only way to solve this problem is open up Airport Utility 5.6. I tried to do this, but 5.6 is not supported on Mountain Lion and couldn't be opened up.
I'm getting the exact same message on my other computer, a Mac Air.
So basically, can't download new firmware and am stuck with a ****** airport extreme that needs to keep being reset, a factory reset, in order to use the internet, but then continues to give me the same message.

Can i set up my drive as encrypted with different partitions for different versions of osx?

i have some questions about setting up an encrypted drive with different versions of osx installed on separate partitions, and how this choice effects time-machine and the emergency recovery disk.
I have a new/refurbished macbook pro with a SSD. it already has mavericks installed. i want to fully wipe the drive and reinstall everything my self because I'm odd like that.
first wiping the current drive
Does the recovery partition get wiped if i use disk-utility to reformat the drive. Even thought the recovery partition does not show up as a partition, when i look at it with disk-utility? i would like to know I've wiped all partitions so that no little bugger gets left with out me knowing. Disk-utility does not show the recovery partition and this makes me concerned it might not wipe it.
Does mavericks automatically make a recovery partition during the installation process? Or do i need to make a new 1gb partition for the recovery disk?

How can I handle deploying multiple test systems on the same PC that have been developed using different versions of LabVIEW, TestStand, and/or Switch Executive?

The major issue here is that the test systems must be documented and validated before being released to the production floor. Given this if a test station has multiple test systems deployed on it that have been developed on various versions of LV, TS, and Switch exec how can I force the test system selected to use the correct versions of TS, LV, and Switch exec.? I understand that the solution would be to recomplie everything and bring them up to the latest version but that would then require re-validation according to the QA department. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
It would be nice if theTS deployment was more like an LV executable... meaning when a LV executable is launched it always knows what LV runtime engine to use when there are multiple engines installed on a PC.

Multiply versions of teststand can reside on the same system, but only one version can run at a time. They is a utility that has to be run to set the active version.
The SequenceFiles have a version number, and you will find an error will be generate if you try to Load the sequencefile in the wrong version of TestStand.
The labview VIs will only work providing the correct version of the RTE is also installed on your system, even a labview executabe requires the correct RTE to be installed, either as part of the executable installation or as a seperate installation, before the labview exe will work correctly.
I'm not fimilar with the Switch exec but I would expect that it will also require the correct lower level device drivers to be available for the version you are using.
Therefore, as you are indicating that some of your system are at a older version, its difficult to image how you could achive this, considering if you say you have different versions of the software(s). For a start, you may have the problem that newer code/ sequencefiles using additional functionatily not available in the older versions.
I would think your only solution would be to have different deployments covering the different versions you have, or at least bring all your test systems up to the same version of teststand.

Running multiple java apps simultaneously, using different versions of jre.

I have a situation where I have 3 or 4 applications (and one applet) that were built over time, each with a different version of the jdk (ranging from 1.2.2.005 to 1.3.2). I need to know of a way (and it must exist) to run each of these applications on the same machine, and at runtime, have each application (or applet) run with its respective version of the jre. Certainly, one could change some source code and make all programs compatible with a particular jre, but that doesn't solve my problem if a new app is built with a new version of the jdk down the road. Currently, each runs fine by themselves, but if I try to run them together as different processes, some won't do anything because the default jre may not be what it needs. Would the Java Plug-in software have a role to play in this? Is there a way to specify (link) which application should use which jre?
P.S. These applications (right now) don't have to interact or interface in any way. I just need to have them all running as separate processes on the same machine and be able to jump from one to the other.

Write a batch file that sets the environment properly and restores it afterwards, here is a sample batch file we use which switches to IBM's JRE to run an app:

If you want to add a second partition to the internal drive (in Disk Utility, select the drive, then open the partition tab and just click the + button), you should first be sure that you will have enough room to accommodate whatever the second volume will be. I am currently doing this for Snow and Mountain Lion.
To get to whatever volume is not the startup disk, restart and hold down option/alt at the chime, which will bring up a selection of the two volumes. Use the left or right arrow keys to select it and then hit enter/return.

Different versions of a program, subvies location

Hello everybody,
I have problem when I try to keep two different versions of a proyect in my PC. I have developped a project with one main VI and severals subVIs. This project is working properly but now I want to make some modifications. Then I have created another folder with a copy of this program (kind of security copy). However, when I open the new version, there are conflicts with the subvis of both versions(the old one and the new one). And I wouldn't like to make some changes and to modify the security version and every time I open one version have to be resolving all the conflicts either.
Do you know any way to avoid this problem?

If you are not using revision control software, a simple trick to store a "backup" copy is to zip the entire folder that contains your project. Especially if all your files reside within the folder.
