I have a lot of freezes in firefox with the new kernel.

With linux-lts, there no problems at all. I saw this report but i dont think is related to the futex race issue.
Any help appreciated.

because the report opener said that those freezes fixed with the 'futex' patch (included in 3.14-5).
As he says:
for those who have again problems despite the patch it means probably that there are another bugs further in the source code of kernel 3.14, bugs who are not necessarily related to the "futex problem"

Firefox freezes with Flash addon enabled; doesn't freeze with Flash addon disabled.
Running Windows 8, Firefox 18.0.1, plugin Shockwave Flash 11.5.502.146 (current version, according to Firefox plugin check).
Firefox freezes every time when loading a page with Flash content when the Flash plugin is enabled. Firefox does not freeze when the Flash plugin is disabled. Repeatable, tested and confirmed multiple times - freezes consistently with Flash plugin enabled, loads pages perfectly when Flash plugin is disabled (though without Flash content).
When in this frozen state, Firefox is completely unresponsive - displays a blank page, can't type anything, can't click on or move/minimize the window. Must be force-quit via task manager.
Other browsers (e.g. Chrome) do not have this issue with Flash. Have noticed several similar problems reported with Firefox and Flash, but the only solution I have seen offered is to downgrade Flash (and introduce potential security issues). Surely there must be a better option? This is a massive issue for me - Firefox is my preferred browser but I cannot use it while it has this allergic reaction to the Flash plugin.Downgrading Flash is not a solution. This problem seems to be intractable. It will be the end of Mozilla if they cannot address this issue (or even acknowledge the problem). Firefox needs to play nice with current versions of Flash.

[SOLVED] firefox "open with" option missing from d
Has anyone noticed that, in firefox 2, the "Save/OpenWith/Cancel dialog has changed to only "Save/Cancel" (with no option to open the file with a particular application)?
For instance, clicking on the first "Excel" file type on this Web page only gives me a Save or Cancel option. With firefox 1.5 there was an additional option for "Open With". In other words, there is no way I can instantly open the document with Open Office using a temporary location. I have to first save it to my home directory and then open it with Open Office or something.
When using firefox 2 with Web-based email clients like Yahoo! Mail, it's annoying that I can't just instantly open attachments (like PDFs). Instead, I have to first save everything.
Is there something I can change in about:config to get back the 1.5 behavior?No, I already checked my firefox preferences. The preferences explain the behavior of Excel files (set to always save). But, for me, the "Open with" option went missing for PDF attachments and some other unknown binary file types.
I have PDFs set to open with acroread in FF preferences, so that seems okay. Nothing in the filetypes configuration has changed. In fact, the PDFs work okay (with acroread plugin) when I click a PDF link on a random web page. It just doesn't work in email attachments like in gmail (and, it used to before). It used to be that it would give me the "Open With" dialog and I'd open the document with acroread (external application, not the plugin). Now, it forces me to save or cancel. I noticed it happens with some other unknown binary file types, too (I thought these were also supposed give me the "Open with" option). -
Firefox freezes with Mac OS10.6.7. The menus are also frozen
I just upgraded my mac to 10.6.7. Now when Firefox freezes all the menus are also frozen. When you click on the apple to force quit it can not be selected.

New player freezes with Linux+Firefox+Firebug.
Any page (or tab) playing a flash video (youtube for example)
freezes firefox when closed when firebug is loaded as a module.
This only applies to flash video's being played and intermittently
fails to crash.

"further information" message is with everything but Flash turned
off. It seemed that with firebug enabled, I was virtually
guaranteed to get a freeze, and turning it off reduced the chance
of that considerably, however, looking back, I don't recall whether
the freeze only happened when closing the last flash enabled tab.
Yet more NEW INFORMATION:
While playing around with having the libraries installed or
not, I noticed that if I erase the flash libraries from the plugins
directory without restarting firefox, it will eventually act as if
the plugin was never installed. This leads me to strongly suspect
that Firefox 2.0.0.3 actually UNLOADS the plugin after it's
finished using it. If Opera doesn't do that (follow the link in
ismail.donmez's post), and the bug were in the shutdown code of the
plugin, this would be a great explanation for the bug. -

after upgrading to linux-3.5.3-1 my boot stopped at

I tried upgrading to grub-bios-2.00, removing any customization I had in modprobe.conf and /etc/modules-load.d as well as removing the only module (radeon) from /etc/mkinitcpio.conf (obviously followed by mkinitcpio -p linux), which made me go on to
:: waiting for udev uevents to be processed [BUSY]
I'm not sure it's an actual progress.
My /etc/udev/rules.d is empty and /usr/lib/udev/rules.d only contains pacman-tracked stuff.
I enabled some debugging as described here but couldn't get anything useful - is there any way for such messages to be logged somewhere, so they can be pasted here?
I ended up downgrading to linux-3.4.9, which boots fine.
Any idea to troubleshoot this?

As he says:
for those who have again problems despite the patch it means probably that there are another bugs further in the source code of kernel 3.14, bugs who are not necessarily related to the "futex problem"

[SOLVED] firefox problems with Twitter and google+
I've been having some issues with firefox. I don't know if they are related, but they've been getting on my nerves.
First off, Twitter just shows a blank page with the background picture. I can't view any twitter posts at all.
Secondly, pages which check for browser compatibility all seem to report that my browser isn't supported (it is). For example, Google+ gives me a "Your Browser is no longer supported." page while the list of supported browsers states: "Linux : Chrome, Firefox 3.6 and up".
I'm using the latest version of firefox from extra (7.0.1-1). Also, these problems are not new to this version, as they have been occurring for as long as I've had this computer (~10 months). Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I still don't know what caused the problems, but I've migrated all my stuff over to the new profile and everything is working well. I'm marking this thread as solved, thanks for the help! -
[Solved] Login freezing with busy mouse cursor and black screen.
After installing some recent updates I have suddenly found a problem when starting the login manager for Cinnamon.
After booting I am greeted with a black screen and a "busy" mouse cursor - like a stopwatch. I can't ctrl-alt-backspace to restart X.
What fixes it is - if I ctrl-alt-F2 to a new console and kill -9 the Xorg process. This causes X to restart normally. I have to do this every time now
I don't know if this is systemd related or what, but it only seemed to happen after the updates below.

I don't know the details to be honest, but the title of your post basically describes my situation with GDM when I used accountsservice >0.6.25, so I figured it was worth a shot, since the symptoms were the same.
Also, Cinnamon depends on accountsservice if I'm not mistaken, so it didn't seem unreasonable that the update broke Cinnamon too.
I'm glad it works now. Let's hope a updated, working version of accountsservice is released soon. -
[SOLVED] Xorg freeze with nvidia GeForce 210 when resizing terminal
Hello,
I am working on Archlinux. My computer freeze when I resize a terminal window.
To reproduce the problem, I follow the below steps :
1- launch openbox (with tint2, xcompmgr and nitrogen)
2- start the "terminal" console emulator (with true transparent background)
3- launch opera and go to a website which take a while to load (with a lot of data) (I used http://www.lemonde.fr)
4- while the website is loading, switch to the terminal window and double click on the title bar to maximize it
5- the box freeze
I am not able to take the control back. I cannot exit or kill Xorg / Openbox. I cannot switch to a text terminal (ttyx). No key sequence is working.
Only a hard reset of the box is working.
I have tried to disable the transparent background of the terminal window without success.
I have tried to not start xcompmgr without success.
The problem also occurs with rxvt-unicode instead of terminal.
It seems the problem happens more often when using console emulator based on vte.
vte itself has the same issue.
The only workaround I have found is to disable the harware acceleration with the below parameter in the xorg.conf file:
Option "RenderAccel" "true"
The problem with this workaround are poor graphical performances.
Could you please let me know if you have any idea / clue to identify / fix this problem ?

Workaround :
It seems the problem might be linked to transparent items like background.
As explained in the above thread :
According to the bug report the nVidia driver is freaking out and creating too many events, which causes an event buffer in Xorg to overflow. It works OK with the older Xorg, though.
So the temporary solution is to downgrade 3 packages.
Install the tool to downgrade
> yaourt -Sy downgrade
Downgrade
Note the item number can change
> downgrade xf86-input-evdev
Hit "s" key
Choose 2 (xf86-input-evdev-2.6.0-2-i686.pkg.tar.xz)
> downgrade xorg-server
Hit "s" key
Choose 1 (xorg-server-1.9.4.901-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz)

Be carefull : don't update these 3 packages when updating your system (pacman -Syu) since it is not fixed.

Firefox keeps freeing/hanging. First you will see the errors that pop up for me. Then the troubleshooting I have done to solve this problem.

For troubleshooting I have tried the following:
disable addon's and restart in safe mode (did not help)
disable theme and restart in safe mode (did not help)
reset firefox (did not help)
uninstalled Firefox & removed all traces of browser from my computer (yes even the registry was removed)
-------------- after doing the above I still had all my previous settings. I used IE to download a fresh copy and tired again. Still have all my settings, plugin's, tabs, and unremoved cookies and a little history
I am not tech savvy but the script errors made me think of Javascript. I went to about:config and searched for Java when javascript.enabled showed up I disabled and the problem has disappeared.
I know I need this javascript enabled. I cannot do much of anything at my site with is disabled.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this script hanging problem.

[Solved] Intermittent freezing with no apparent errors in the logs
The freezing occurs without warning, and affects the whole user interface. After a few minutes, it will unfreeze for a few seconds, then freeze again. This repeats ad nauseam. The most recent time this happened, I had quite a few applications open and I decided to close them one by one during the unfreezes to see if any one of them was the culprit, but nothing was apparent.
Checking my logs reveals nothing. Here's the relevant time slot from my everything.log:

As you can see, my sysreq keys work fine even during the freeze. I've also noticed that any audio that I am playing when the system freezes continues to play normally. I'm on a 32 bit install running gnome-shell with the proprietary nvidia drivers. The freeze started when I opened a webpage with a flash video on it. I thought that flash might be the problem, but I don't think so now since 1) it wasn't the first flash video I've viewed and 2) killing the browser didn't fix the freezing problem.

Firefox freezes with certiain applications and often crashes
Sometimes I try to login to my bank, yahoo mail, fancast.com, netflix.com and the browser just freezes and takes forever to load.

Please help solve: iPhoto freezes with pinning wheel
How can I restore the iPhoto as it is suppose to work. iPhoto would load up to where photos begin to line up but no father with continuous spinning wheel/mouse without normal function within the window(iPhoto). Is it possible reinstall new iPhoto and start from scratch? OR some way to have present iPhoto to respond. Tried rebuilding and restore the library database and album etc without success. Thank you in advance.
That won't help if the problem is not with the Application.
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Firefox Freezed by Fullscreen Flash Video (and trouble with Flash Video Settings)
I have a desktop computer with integrated nvidia graphics card and a notebook with integrated ati graphics card.
Both use Linux with Firefox 3.0.8 with Flash Player 10.22
If I use fullscreen in laptop(ati) no problem at all. In the desktop station(nvidia) if it is an embed video firefox freezes completely and I have to kill firefox. If I go to the original website of the video, no problem at all.
Wanted to try to deactivate hardware acceleration as stated in some forums, but no luck. Both computers when I right click a select settings, window opens but I can't do nothing at all, not even close them. I can only close (normaly) firefox to reopen it.As it turns out, Skype also crashes if I try to use video - so I'm forced to confront the possibility that the problem is actually with my PC, or the updates windows has just installed.
