[SOLVED] Fixing slow scrolling in firefox with nvidia and 64 bit

I'm experiencing very slow scrolling with firefox on sites like
http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/
http://www.vai.com/News/index.html
I'm running 64 bit with KDEmod. Scrolling is fine when I remove flash completely but on Ubuntu 10.04 (64 bit) the abnove sites scroll fine on a different machine (with intel graphics). I read somewhere by modifying xorg with "AccelMethod" "EXA" to "XXA" scrolling becomes very smoth onm ATI and Intel. Here is my xorg.conf:

is there something I can change to improve scrolling in firefox? I've tried to turnoff desktop effects and scrolling is the same annd also running firefox from a fresh profile. Hence, i suspect my nvidia 9800GT card to be the culprit. If anyone has a working xorg.conf with nvidia, 64 bit and smooth scrolling on the above mentioned sites please SHARE! Many Thanks!

Sorry, I don't use KDE, but it may be related to how do you start KDE: from xinit or via KDM or sth.

It's running the same driver as before.

Did you uninstall it? Did you install the nouveau driver? 'pacman -Qqs xf86-video' will tell you what drivers you have installed.
No, I don't have the nouveau driver installed. I have to check if I have the nv driver installed but I didn't uninstall the nvidia driver. I'm starting KDE via xinit.

Fix bug SDK-17734 Path with width and height set different than path data has incorrect bounds
Fix: When calculating the bounds position we should take into account the implicit scaling factor actualSize/naturalSize. Also did some refactoring, getting rid of the protected method calculateTopLeft.

Yes I have removed and reinstalled WMP.
I had good results with the PD6 application installed on the default path onto the C: drive with the one exception that if the application was launched by accident and the user data path was not available, the PD6 application would blow away my custom user path registry settings. Now that I know what they are I have made a .reg file to repair my registry to my desired user data paths.
Installing the application on the removable drive appeared to help prevent me from launching the application by accident and overwriting my registry with default user paths.
So which is the less of the two evils?
If the application directory is not available, windows media player still tries to launch the .msi for installing PD6.
If I install the application to the C: drive but the user data to the removable drive, launching the PD6 application without the user data drive will still corrupt my registry settings for a user data path.
Both these issues seem like a logical (if not easy) fix that should be done in the PD6 application and installation package. I mean really, cannot anyone tell me why windows media player is checking the PD6 application directory? Why in PD4 did we have an option control for setting the user data path from the PD4 application? Why is this option not in the PD6 application, just the installer?
I am given a choice during installation to move the user data to another non default location. Why else would this be provided if not to accommodate my kind of request to store the user data into an alternate location other than “My Document”. Certainly Palm is not trying to force the users on how to protect and store their personal data?

Once firefox 4.o was installed, when switching to full screen while watching any internet video produced a white screen but audio still playing. Switching back to small screen has a still video but audio still going. Had to exit and and restart video or open a blank new new tab then delete it and then small screen video would play. Using a mac os 10.5. Disabling hardware acceleration did not fix. went back to firefox 3.6 and all is ok. Any help would be appreciated.

Your hardware was never designed to run that old a version of OS X, it's best to update the application or find another application that is more up to date. Installing Leopard simply will not work on your system.

  • Office Administrative Template installation with 32 and 64 bits clients

    Hello,
I would like to install the Office Administrative Templates (2007, 2010, 2013) but I don't really understand how.
I have several clients computers :
-Windows XP and 7 (the XP will disappear but not now so I have to handle with)
    - 32 and 64 bits (OS and associate Office version)
    - two Office languages (English and French)
In this case, what I have to put in the domain controllers (or in the central store for GPO, not matters), to cover all the cases ?
I do not understand the x86 or x64 Office administrative templates versions neither how the languages are managed.
    Thanks a lot.

The Office2013 Admin Templates+OCT is available in both 32bit and 64bit formats
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35554
Because the download contains the Templates *and* the OCT (OPAX/OPAL and various DLLs etc), and, the OCT itself and also the OCT output file (a customization MSPfile) is architecture-specific, that is why there is a 32bit and a 64bit download.
The ADMX/ADML files themselves, are not architecture-specific.
ADMX and OPAX, is language-neutral, the language-specific details are contained within ADML/OPAL.

The first code block contains my Xorg.0.log however I just tryed modprove nvidia and recieved FATAL: Module nvidia not found. which I discovered was solved by someone here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=961852 however when I tryed to do a pacman -S nvidia nvidia-utils I get a unresolved confilict with nvidia-304xx-utils which after trying to remove with pacman -Rs shows dependencies with cario, Im not sure how far back I should start removing things to solve this conflict or how to go abouts solving it
    +++++++++
    Update: Solved
    +++++++++
I did some more looking and found I could force the uninstall of nvidia-304xx-lts with pacman -Rdds nvidia-304xx-lts and after revisiting the Nvidia page on the wiki for the dozenth time I started thinking maybe I needed nvidia-304xx oposed to the lts release as google as kindly pointed out lts is long term support and maybe my kernel was not lts and thus conflicting.  This turned out to be the case, after removing the ofending lts version of the driver, replacing with the correct nvidia-304xx , another nvidia-xconfig and reboot followed by modprobe nvida and startxfce4 my wounderfull xfce is now running as I type this messsage in firefox.  Thank you for you help, as you asking about the modprobe output caused the chain of events leading to the success.

  • Slow scrolling in Firefox 3.6.3

Lately firefox has become very slow in scrolling on certain like
    www.blabbermouth.net
and I can't figure out why. I have tried to run firefox with clean profile and no plugins and the above site is unscrollable in firefox. It runs great in Konqueror. Then I thought maybe it is kwin's desktop effects that are killing the scolling performance but shut it off doesn't help. The strange thing is that firefox on Ubuntu 10.04 runs much faster on my machine at which an old p4 machine and my machine at home is a quad core pc. Is there something different about firefox in Ubuntu and Arch Linux the way they are build? Can anyone else use the site above in firefox, meaning can you scroll?

karol wrote:I'm on an old 32-bit P4 and I can scroll on that site w/o a problem. Check that site w/ chromium - gamespot is horrible w/ firefox but runs w/o a hitch in chromium for me.
Maybe smoothscrolling will help you. You can also you PgDn / PgUp instead of the mouse wheel.
Already turned on but it kills scrolling completely on the above mentioned site for me at least.

  • Tty display problems with nvidia and uvesafb

I'm trying to get my console to display correctly at 1080p; trying to do so through GRUB was always an absolute nightmare.
The console displays fine with nouveau, but nouveau causes the infamous pink line bug, which is simply too irritating to ignore; nouveau is not an option.
In the past, my console has run at low res and incorrect scale with nvidia, but I've ignored the problem since I prefer to use a virtual terminal in X.
Now, if possible, I need to use the actual console for the purposes of module development.
I installed v86d and uvesafb and configured the console for 1920x1080 and 32 bit depth.
The console is displaying with the correct resolution now, but is surrounded by a black border, making the font distorted and extremely difficult to read.
How can I get my console to scale correctly to fullscreen? Any ideas at all. I found nothing in the forums or wiki, and I'm out.
I'm fairly certain there are no vga or video settings in GRUB that are interfering.

Also, it might help to describe the behaviour more specifically / more in depth...
The rendered part of the console occupies the same space as the GRUB boot menu.
I installed and configured virtualbox a few weeks previously.
I ran "sudo depmod -a" as the wiki / forums indicated it could remedy problems with virtual machines failing to start.
It did fix the virtualbox problem; after reboot, suddenly lightdm *also* initally occupied the same window space as grub.
That was new behaviour. When I logged in to xmonad, the desktop displayed similarly to GRUB.
I hadn't tried fixing it; logging in with root followed by "ps -e | grep X" and "kill -9 <Xpid>" caused X as a whole to start behaving and scaling normally.
I haven't rebooted until attempting to rectify the issue with my console.
The oddity with scaling in lightdm and xmonad still shows up after reboot and is still reparable by killing X.
Killing X doesn't - obviously - have any effect on console scale.

  • Scroll a list with touch and momentum

Has anyone got example code for scrolling a long list (using the List component) on iOS and/or Android using touch and momentum? I have been struggling with it and not getting anything like what I am looking for - and am feeling decidely dumb right now.

    Mr.Backstrom,
I have changed the list template overide to dhtml Tree. And now the list is being displayed as vertical unordered list with bullets. Is it possible to take off the bullets? Thank you for your time.
    Suma.

  • I am not sure if I have an acct? I have synch firefox with mobile and other computer but cannot sign in here

Setting up my new laptop and smartphone has me inputting user names and passwords all over the place. I thought I set up Firefox with an acct. I know I performed the synch operation successful so I how can I tell if I have an acct setup. I definitely have one now as I had to register to get support. Are there a number of different acct relating to Firefox?

Every Mozilla website or function has it's own login accounts. This support forum, Firefox Sync services, the Add-ons support forum, Bugzilla, etc. I use the same username and password for all of them except Sync, which has a different format, to make it easier, but each one needs to be set each one up separately.
If you already have all that data saved in Firefox on an older PC, it isn't all that hard to get that data into another Firefox desktop installation and then use Sync to "sync" that data with the mobile device. See this support article: <br />

  • Multi GPU use with Nvidia and Radeon Card combined possible?

I know it's unlikely but does CC support the combined use of Nvidia and AMD graphics cards, mercury engine, cuda / opencl / multi GPU feature wise?
There's a lack of performance currently; especially when color grading. So we're gonna have to upgrade our macpro.
    Current Setup:
    Mac OS X Lion
    3,33GHz 6-Core INTEL Xeon
    24GB 1333MHz DDR 3 RAM
    ATI Radeon HD 5870
    Nvidia Quadro 4000
    SSD Raid internal
    SATA HDDs external
What's a good / better setup especially for color grading in Premiere (might switch over to SpeedGrade CC soon)?
We're gonna replace the Radeon HD 5870. Should we buy replace it with a NVIDIA Quadro K 5000 or a Radeon 7950 Mac Edition?
    Thanks in advance!

Get the K5000 if you need 10bit color preview. If you dont get the 680GTX Mac edition.

  • Nvidia and 32 bit depth color

Hii, My screen support 32 bit color, and I want to use it insted of 24, but when doing so on Xorg.conf, Nvidia gives me an erorr when trying to run X, any one saw that and know what I can do?

24 bit and 32 bit color depths have the same number of colors; the extra 8 bits are for alpha. So don't worry about color quality or anything, they're nearly the same

  • Cover flow slow to scroll in Vista with Nvidia GeForce 8400M

I recently purchased a new laptop with vista service pack 1. One issue is the cover flow motion is really slow to scroll compared to my last computer using xp. Does anyone else have this problem or know of a fix?

I have had the same problem with my new Dell XPS notebook since I bought it in mid Feb. I have googled the problem and a lot of users are also having this problem. Cover flow mode is painfully slow and unuseable. If you find a fix, please post.

  • Slow scrolling on Firefox 3

On two webpages I frequent, Facebook and a private forum, Firefox 3 scrolls very slowly if I use the mousewheel or the keyboard keys to scroll.  If I grab the scroll bar and drag it the page scrolls fine, but like I said not if I use the mouse wheel.  This behavior doesn't happen on any other websites.  Any idea what the problem could be?  I have no extensions installed.

I tried this but still no luck, I have an "nVidia Corporation GeForce 8600M GT" and the 177.82 driver.
Can some of you please visit this site and tell me if you have problems with firefox3? http://lubosz.de/Firefox3PerformanceBug/
No problem here (Firefox 3.0.4 / GeForce 8800GT).
Maybe you can try the new beta driver : http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=15152
    Thanks for your help!
I've just upgraded xorg to the 1.5.3 version, had some problems but looks good now. I then installed the 180.08-1 nvidia beta driver and everything is fine. No more lag on http://lubosz.de/Firefox3PerformanceBug/.
ps : did you have any problem with the beta driver, just so I know what to expect.
