[SOLVED] Gemrb, baldur's gate 2 multiplayer

Hi!
I was trying to get Baldur's gate 2 working better on my little netbook, because with wine it is really slow.
Well, i found out gemrb, and after i compiled it from aur, get the right config, now launching "gemrb", makes baldur's gate 2 start (and it is really smooth), i can play sp. All i need is to play mp now, because i'm playing again that game with my brother. With wine I could, but as i said, it ran really slow. (something like 15-20 fps)
Now, when i click on multiplayer, then connection, it does nothing. Don't know why...
Hope someone already had this problem and he managed to fix it... or may be someone has any idea what's going on!
Unfortunately i couldn't find anything on the web about gemrb and multiplayer (may be it is not supported yet?)
Thank you very much!
Bye!

Ok I'll answer myself.
It seems multiplayer is not yet implemented, so...sorry for make you wasting your time reading this post.

Hi guys, I just installed the beta of BGEE from Steam and I noticed that it won't start. I figured out it was missing libjson.so.0 by running it from the terminal.

Now, I have to tell you, I got the same error when I had the idea of symlinking the newer library with the older filename too. I undid that before I tried this.
I'm guessing it's some problem with opengl or my nvidia driver.
Now, how do I continue troubleshooting?

  • Where do I post a question about Baldur's Gate 2?

I am having saving issues with Baldur's Gate 2 on my Mac Pro and I posted a question in the Mac Pro section but I'm not sure if that was right. Is there anywhere else to post this issue because Macplay won't return my support emails.

  • Optical Drive failing to read discs

This is a problem that I've had while running both OSX 10.6 as well as Windows 7. The latter seems to have even more trouble with it.
I will insert a CD, and it will read it at first, then fail to do anything else. Example: trying to load a game, Baldur's Gate II. It runs the .exe at first, then when the installation process tries to start, it never really does. Nothing else pops up.
I can here the drive revving up like it's about to start, then simply stops. Then revs again, then stops again. It does this a few hundred times before completely giving up. This happens with most CDs and DVDs.
This is sort of a problem. Help?

A fair point, but that's not the issue. Yesterday, I downloaded and compiled an ISO of the game, mounted it to a virtual drive, and installed the game flawlessly. No trouble at all.
So the program itself was not an issue.
I solved this one problem specifically, but this happens with most CDs and DVDs I try to run. Even on OSX, it take longer to read the disc than it did before.

  • Intel core i7 Q720 running at a temperature of 85-99 degrees.

Hello there. I bought myself a hp pavilion dv7-4085eb in september.
When I bought it I had problems with drivers, contacted HP support but couldn't fix the problem so I bought a clean windows installation and installed that on my laptop. After doing this I had no more driver problems.
From the start I noticed that the laptop was running very hot but now I am getting quite concerned.
I heard from many people that having a core temperature between 85-99 degrees is not good for the health of the laptop and won't last long. I measured the temperature with coretemp. So far my laptop has shut down 3 times because it was getting to hot.
While I am on my laptop I make sure it is in a ~20 degree so the vents can work properly.
    The temperatures:
    - Laptop startup (after 5 min): 55-65 degrees (idle)
    - Laptop while playing game: 95-99 degrees (idle)
    - Laptop after playing game: 75 degrees (idle)
    - Laptop while watching movies: 80 degrees (idle)
Does anyone else have the similar temperatures or? Should I send it up or?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    I have a DV7-4010TX.
    On idle (browsing,email, etc..)  I have 50 degrees C
I try playing Baldur's Gate 2, and it jumps up to 80 degress C according to CoreTemp, with only 50% load on one core... other 3 cores are at 0% (or so) and 72 degressC.. And the fan is pumping hot air out like a hair dryer... expensive hair dryer....
I had the HP warranty service technician look at it today, and all they did was replace the heat sink/fan (for the second time now)... I don't think they understand that the problem is not in the EXTRACTION of heat, but in the GENERATION of heat.. Basic physics...
I keep telling them the heat sink & fan are working fine..and they should focus on the heat GENERATION.. but I seem to be speaking ancient french or something.. as they insist on replacing the fan & heat sink !!!
By the way, Baldur's Gate 2 works fine on my OLD DELL single core laptop.... I am nit happy with this HP.. I wish I had bought another brand now...
And yet they keep saying the DV7 does not have any "offocial" heat problem, which may be true, and I may have a dud.. but it is frustrating that this is happening !!!! will keep you posted with my dealings with HP Warranty service.
    Not a happy customer...

  • Problem with Wine, NVidia and fullscreen games

    Hi,
I'm writing about a problem i recently noticed with wine, nvidia gpu and fullscreen 2d games.Basically the problem is as follows - i am running arch with the latest kernel and nvidia drivers on Thinkpad T61 with NVidia Quadro NVS 140M. I have a problem with old 2d games like Red Alert 2, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Diablo 2, Heroes 3. All of these games do not support the native 1440x900 resolution of my screen and all of them work fine in window mode but crash if fullscreen is selected. I managed to get some of them working by making them work at higher resolutions. For example although Red Alert 2 does not support 1440x900, it can be easily made to work at that resolution and after i applied the necessary settings it worked. The same was with Heroes 3 - by default it does not support 1440x900 and it used to work only i window mode but there is a HD mod which allows it to run in higher resolutions and after i applied it it worked perfectly in fullscreen. I haven't thested Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale but i think it will work there too.
The problem is that i cannot use this approach to all games - for example i must run Diablo 2 and Starcraft in their original resolutions. I read somewhere that the problem is that wine can only change between the resolutions described in the xorg.conf file and if doesn't find the necessary resolution the game will crash or will only take the portion of the screen that is its resolution - for example when i play Starcraft rather than stretching it to the whole screen it simply takes 640x480 pixels of my screen and the game is displayed in the top left corner of the screen leaving everything else black.
I didn't have this problem before - it is something new though i'm not sure since when do i have the problem because i rarely play games. As for the idea that the problem may be related to the resolutions defined in the Xorg.conf file, my xorg.conf is automatically generated by the nvidia installer and there are no resolutions defined there.

I remember that issue, with the 302 series.
I have Nvidia 304.48 installed and the problem still exists (it also happens with Catalyst). This didn't occur with 295.59 using the same version of Wine.

  • What's so good about tile maps?

I've been testing a 2d platform game I'm working on (for a bit of a laugh), and I was about to start working of some sort of tile map system for the scrolling backgrounds, and I though 'what the hey, rather than use a tile map I could just draw the whole level as one big gif', or maybe break it down to 5/8 images or something.
Fullscreen bufferStrategy can easily handle all the unnecessary off-screen drawings and I'm not relying on image data for collisions as all collisions are done with bounding boxes (I'll eventually only be testing the onscreen bounding boxes, so there's a small saving :)
I done a test with the player checking for 2000 (way OTT) collisions per game loop, and drawing 2 huge scrolling images (one a transparent gif the other solid, and it didn't drop a frame). Also this way there are no restrictions to the detail I can put in the background and anyone will easily be able to draw there own image and load it into the editor (when its finished) and click in a few platforms/badguys and stuff very easily.
The background image size will probably end up about 233k per level. The screen rez will be 320/240 for that chunky pixel look.
    Am I being lazy :)

John Carmack once described tile-based systems as, essentially, a really poor compression scheme.
Compression aside, there is value in tile-based systems.
You can create many, many maps (and let your users make their own) with little trouble with a map editor and a tile set. The reason Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II, Icewind Dale and Icewind Dale II were so painful to make for the artists was that each map had to be hand drawn - all of it. Neverwinter Nights uses 3D tilesets, resulting in easy development, even for unskilled (in terms of art) hobbyists.

  • OS X Game won't run

I recently purchased a Mac OS X game for my computer (Baldur's Gate II:Shadows of Amn...if that helps) and after installing I click to play the game and it flashes then disappears and an icon says 'the application quit unexpectedly'. I've gone onto the websites and have tried to reinstall it using their directions but nothing happens. I have know idea what to do, on the back it says the system requirements are:
    power macintosh G3 233MHz
MAC OS 8.6 or later / 128 MB RAM
MAC OS 10.0.4 or later / 128 MB RAM
    Built for MAC OS X
I'd really appreciate any help you all can give

  • Help on path finding

    Hello everyone!
    Help me please!
Have you ever played games like Baldur's gate or Diablo or classic adventure games (like Monkey island)?
    What I'm saying is:
I'm trying to implement a way to move my character, on a 2D space, to the point I clicked on.
If there is no obstacle between the start and the finish points, I can make it work pretty easily (I just let the charachter walk the straight line connecting the points).
The problem is when I introduce obstacles.
I'm trying to implement the A* algorithm for the path finding process.
Since the character and the obstacles lay on a 2D plane not divided into tiles or any sort of sub-division, it is quite hard to calculate a path.
What I thought of doing is:
when I click on a destination point, I create a 2D grid surrounding the character, at its actual position, and the destination point.
The intersections between the horizontal and the vertical lines of this grid, will be the possible nodes of the path to the destination. (I hope it's clear).
The A* will calculate the best path among these nodes, considering whether a node is reachable (i.e. not overlapping an obstacle) or not.
I still haven't implemented it, so it's just an idea, and I don't even know if it works!
Is it possible there is no other way of doing that?
How do the games I mentioned above work?
My problem is finding a way to determine the possible nodes (2D points on the 2D plane) for the A* algorithm to work on.
    Please help, I'm stuck.
    Any suggestion?
    Thank you!
P.S: If you need me to make it more clear, I'll give it a try!

So far as I've tested it they haven't gotten stuck.
The best way I can think of to do it is with the Line2D.Double class.
    - I draw a line between me and the enemy
    - create two lines that are equal to that first line
    - rotate the first line, from the enemy, to the left
    - rotate the first line, from the enemy, to the right
    - if both still intersect the obstacle, I rotate the two again
    - if one of them no longer intersects the obstacle, that new line becomes my path
Once the clear path is found, I can use the endpoint of that line as the destination, rather than saying that MY coordinates are the destination. It takes a lot of math figuring so it gets messy written out, but in words it's very clean :)
    For simplicity you could try:
    - if he hits an obstacle do the following:
    - draw a line between the entity and the center of the obstacle
    - if you're on the left side of that line, make him turn left 90 degrees
    - if you're on the right side, turn right 90 degrees
Based on how you're creating your obstacles you could think further how you want to do it, like tell them to move in that direction a set distance, that sort of thing.
Or you could give them set paths to follow, that's another solution, and just have them be able to aim at you freely to fire, provided that's how they attack.

  • Classic problem

I can't play any of my classic games since upgrading to Tiger. Baldur's Gate 1 is especially frustrating. It now freezes every time it comes to a specific part of the game. I've tried deleting and re-installing it but the same problem happens just after the start of a new game.
It used to work fine under 10.3.x
    Any suggestions?

  • BG2 probs with KT4 Ultra

    Hello,
While installing Baldur's Gate 2 on my system, I get the following error:
"CRC Error: the file xxxxxxxx.xxx does not match the file in the Setup's .cab file. The medium you are installing from may be defective. Please contact your software vendor."
Underneath I get a prompt with "Abort", "Retry" and "Ignore" buttons. This error appears at several points during the installation process and in reference to several files.
I am running a dual-boot configuration with XP and 98. Under XP, pressing "Retry" makes the hard disk LED light up for a few seconds before displaying the error again. Pressing "Ignore" makes installation continue, until at some point (not always the same) the system reboots itself. Under 98 pressing retry sometimes allows the installation to continue, however it still stops and displays the error message again when it gets to the next problematic file.
I have ruled out the likelyhood that my installation disks are indeed corrupted by trying to install the game on a friend's computer right after the first time I got the error, and it worked fine. I have also installed the game on both of the two different computers I used over the summer (one was running XP, the other 98, both worked fine). I have tried with both the originals and the backup disks and I get the problem both times. Also, the game used to work on my current computer as well, until a severe crash forced me to reinstall Windows. When the error occured, I assumed it was due to a faulty OS installation and therefore reformated and reinstalled Windows yet again, and it still happened!
I'm running an Athlon XP 1700+ (not oc'ed) on an MSI KT4-Ultra motherboard, with 256MB RAM and a Radeon 9000. Windows XP has all the latest updates and all the latest hardware drivers installed, 98 has all the latest hardware drivers but no updates. Micro$oft's knowledgebase claims that the problem is caused by a third-party device driver, and I tend to believe it, as the same game installed from the same disks worked fine on the three other computers I installed it on, as well as on mine the first time round. The only thing in which my current configuration differs from my previous configuration and the configuration I'm running on now is that the first time I installed WIndows on this computer I was NOT using all the very latest drivers as I hadn't been connected to the net yet. Therefore, if it really is a driver, my guess is it would be MSI's motherboard driver.
    My issues are:
    why does this happen?
how do I determine whether it is MSI's driver causing it?
what does this CRC error message thing mean?
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Michael

Do an EXACT search (quoted) of the error at google - sometimes that pulls up the result (had for me MANY times with install issues)

  • P35 platinum strange pauses

    Hello,
I just bought an 8800gt. The issue I'm facing is one of the weirdest I have seen in my time spent with computers. I can play Crysis non stop, and everything is perfect. No overheating, I can OC the hell out of card (670 / 2000) and no problem crop ups. However as soon as I exit and run another game (or 3d mark) after some time (within first 5 minutes) extreme stutter begins. Game pauses for about 30-45 seconds, but computer doesn't crash, if I hit alt-tab and come back issue resolves immediately but repeats itself in a matter of minutes. Strangest part is the game could be a heavy title such as Crysis or light one such as Baldur's Gate 2, it doesn't matter.
Problem began after upgrading to a 8800gt from x1900xt. These issues happen in clean formatted Windows (both X32 and X64 versions) and definitely hardware related. Tried many drivers etc. I guess it's not the card cause as I said I can run heavy titles for many hours, the problem doesn't rear its head unless I quit and run another game -or same game-.
    My full specs:
Axle 8800gt - fan at %70 with RivaTuner
Q6600 at stock (2.4 ghz) (is my PSU enough? Please check PSU specs below)
GEIL 4 gb Ram (4x 1gb) DDR2 800 at 4-4-4-12 (tried taking out sticks, no help here)
MSI P35 Platinum BIOS v1.6 (I have suspicions here - PCI Express compatibility?)
    Seagate 400GB SATA & Seagate 300GB SATA
    PATA DVD-ROM & DVD Writer
    Silverstone Zeus 650W - http://www.silverstonetek.com/products/p_spec.php?pno=st65zf&area=usa
I use DVI to VGA converter. Tried all driver revisions. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.
One more question, can anyone tell me if I should plug 12V motherboard PCI Express power cord, I have tried both (6 pin is connected of course) but does it make any difference when 6 pin cable is connected?

It kinda sounds like a software issue but I'm not sure beacuse you said that this happens even after a fresh install.  I does sound like some process doesn't get shutdown properly when you exit out of a game and when you start something else up with that process still running it causes problems.
The only thing I can think to try would see if maybe there is a patch or update to the games or something.
It could be a hardware problem (they can cause some really strange problems sometimes).  Don't know where to start though.  I would guess the video card or possibly power supply.
For your power supply question you should plug in all three connectors to the board for best stability.  The 24 pin & the 8 pin (I think you can use 4 pin here as well) & regular 4 pin molex.  And of course the 6 pin to the video card.  I think this setup can provide the most power to your system.

  • How to up the timeout setting to solve password reset portal error "Authentication gate timed out waiting for a challenge response"?

    Hi Everyone,
We have the password portal up and running on one box and another server with FIM R2 and SharePoint 2010.  All is good with the exception that our end users typically get distracted during the password registration and/or reset process and receive:
"An error has occurred. Please try again, and if the problem persists, contact your help desk or system administrator. (Error 3000) ".  The timeout kicks in after 5 minutes of inactivity in the browser.
The FIM Service log shows the following:
"Authentication gate timed out waiting for a challenge response".
I have confirmed that the default password portal web.config setting is <add key="SessionTimeoutInMinutes" value="20" />.
We have also updated Microsoft.ResourceManagement.Service.exe.config per this
article to the following but with no luck:
    <resourceManagementClient resourceManagementServiceBaseAddress="myAddress" timeoutInMilliseconds="600000" />
      <resourceManagementService externalHostName="myHost" dataReadTimeoutInSeconds="600" dataWriteTimeoutInSeconds="600"/>
We did not update the Windows SharePoint Servicesweb.config setting per the article about since we are on SharePoint 2010.
There is no NLB or firewall in front on this server.
If anyone has any solution to how to solve this on FIM R2/SharePoint 2010 please let me know.
    Cheers!

    FIM_Admin,
You could try changing the receiveTimeoutInSeconds parameter of the resourceManagementService node in your Microsoft.ResourceManagement.Service.exe.config file. However, you are warned not to do this unless instructed to by MS customer support.
