[SOLVED] GnuPG can't find keyserver

I'm trying to import the key from the Tor Browser, following the instructions from https://www.torproject.org/docs/verifyi … es.html.en. When I run
gpg --keyserver x-hkp://pool.sks-keyservers.net --recv-keys 0x4E2C6E8793298290
I get as output
gpg: keyserver receive failed: No keyserver available
I have no idea what's going wrong. When I run the same command under Linux Mint on the same computer, it works fine. I also tried deleting ~/.gnupg but that doesn't help as well.

Clint_arch wrote:Thanks, that indeed worked. Though I am curious now why it does work on Linux Mint with the leading x-.
I don't know why it works under Mint (have you tried it recently?). All I can say is that the leading x- usually indicates a non-standatd and/or extended version of the protocol [1].

The mention the solution is to place libltd.so.3 in /usr/lib

As you can see, this does work, but doesn't actually use the keyserver specified with --keyserver. It falls back to the one from the config, which uses an unencrypted connection (HKP). Also see http://lists.gnupg.org/pipermail/gnupg- … 29219.html:
Gnupg sends the dirmngr the keyserver it should use with a KEYSERVER command.
In dirmngr's debug output you can see that it sends KEYSERVER --clear <foo>
and then another KEYSERVER command for each keyserver configured.
In my tests it always used the last one.
@jasonwryan: do you have any keyserver(s) specified in your gpg.conf? If yes, then HKPS might not work for you after all. You should be able to check with --debug 1024.

  • [SOLVED] xsane can not find HP Photosmart 309a

at least it worked for me, had to add user to the sys group, then xsane found the scanner.
Afterwards removed the user from the very same group and scanner ist still recognized.
The hint to solve the problem was found at the output of the hp-setup tool

If I switch on the scanner after boot it still works for root.
    As an ordinary user:
    sane-find-scanner
    # sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
    # result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
    # scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.

    Hi !
First of all, I'm new to this forum so, if I made a mistake about posting in the wrong section, I'm sorry.
I've a strange problem on my netbook with alsa.
It's a fresh arch x86_64 installation. Udev detects my sound card. I can see it in /proc/asound/cards
    % cat /proc/asound/cards
    0 [Intel]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xf7cf8000 irq 45
But when I enter for example aplay -l that shows me that no cards was found
    % aplay -l
aplay: device_list:256: aucune carte son n'a été trouvée...
I can also see that snd-hda-intel was loaded with lsmod. I'm absolutely lost.
Maybe someone could help me fixing that problem.
I also paste you the result of lspci -v for my soundcard, It will maybe help...

This morning I have had the same problem, but adding the user to the audio group helps, i.e.:
    gpasswd -a user audio
then close everything, logout and relogin.

  • [SOLVED]Nano can't find some files to edit Locate can't find ...

Hi! You've maybe heard this thousand times before, but I'm new to Arch Linux and Unix commands, so this is maybe stupid question and bla bla bla... but that's why there's Newbie Corner, right? I'm running Arch with LXDE on quite old and tired HP desktop, if that's important.
So, I'd like to have terminal right on my desktop, like hard core linux guys do. I googled a bit and found some how-tos. Tried to find file autostart.sh for openbox, didn't find it with command line nether graphical file browser, so I created one with nano to /home/user/.config/openbox folder, that's allright? After that, I'd like to edit rc.xml file. There's no such file (or at least I could't find one), so I tought that the file lxde-rc.xml in same folder is my target - graphical browser shows me that folder, Nano don't. Still on the map? BUT, there's where a problem occured - if I try to open the file for editing with Nano, there's just blank file. Tried several times, so it's not up to some misspelling or anything like that. There's been similar situations before, so is there something wrong with my installation, filesystem or Nano? I tried command 'locate' too, and it didn't work, too. What am I supposed to do?
And notice that question is about the Nano thing, Lxterminal on desktop isn't so important compared to undestandin my system tools and their behavior.

β ™ wrote:Why are you using sudo when editing user files?
Yes, that's stupid. Maybe that's because I don't exactly know, which files I'm able to edit without sudo. Everything in folder /home?
Why are you editing anything in openbox directory if you are running LXDE?
I know that LXDE uses Openbox as a windowmanager, so that's why. Is that files in the Openbox directory are only for pure Openbox-session, and then other Openbox directories for LXDE-Openbox-session?
Do that all sounds like I should reinstall everything except base packages for Arch and start over with some more education, or is it worth learning to try to configure my current system... Jet there is not too much stuff insalled after the base system, only Lxde, office and Chrome browser.

  • [SOLVED] Where can I find log of checks taking place while booting.

    Dear all,
I finally managed to install Archilinux in a Virtualbox Virtual Machine.
Everything seems fine and the OS boots correctly, but when the system is loading I can see that one of the checks performed at boot
returns a FAILED message. The problem is that it is so fast I can't read it.
I also notice a Yellow message but, again I can't read what it is about.
I know it might sound a silly question, but is there a way to se a log of these checks?
Thanks a lot in advance for the help!
    Cheers,
    Luca
TLDR: all the solutions proposed below are valid (and well worth reading the links for learning purpose). If you just want the list of the failed actions, you can get it with the command
    sudo journalctl -b | grep -i failed

  • [SOLVED] ERROR: Can't find root device /dev/disk/by-uuid/...

Yesterday I upgraded my Lenovo X100e
    # pacman -Syu
and rebooted.  Upon reboot, I received the error
ERROR: Cannot find root device '/dev/disk/by-uuid/[...]'
just after kernel decompression. I got dropped into the recovery shell
    and could not boot.
The problem persisted despite using different root device names (e.g. /dev/sda3, the actual root device).  After reading the instructions at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Chroot I used a core installation image (on a usb stick) to boot the machine, then chrooted into my installation.  I ran mkinitcpio and found that the udev hook was missing, i.e. not in /lib/initcpio/hooks.  Nor was there a file called 'udev' in /lib/initcpio/install.
I copied these files from a friend's installation and then re-ran mkinitcpio:
    # mkinitcpio -p linux
I was able to reboot successfully after that.
The weird thing: I don't know how the udev hook script was deleted from /lib/initcpio/hooks.
If someone else runs into this problem: try to run mkinitcpio (e.g. by using the chroot), and check for this problem.  I think the problem was that the root device could not be found because the udev hook had not run, and therefore /dev was unpopulated.

Betwen udev-181-2 and udev-181-5, the hooks have moved from /lib/initcpio to /usr/lib/initcpio. But mkinitcpio -L should still list them.
I have a similar problem since the last update. The kernel doesn't seem to load my raid driver anymore. Upon boot it throws some cryptic udev messages at me and then crashes. Haven't found out what that is about yet.

  • [SOLVED] Samba can't find shared library libsasl2.so.2

Samba is installed but won't start. systemctl status smbd.service returns:
    smbd.service - Samba SMB/CIFS server
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/smbd.service; enabled)
Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Wed 2013-05-22 10:17:03 EDT; 41min ago
    May 22 10:17:03 andydesktop systemd[1]: Starting Samba SMB/CIFS server...
May 22 10:17:03 andydesktop smbd[1421]: /usr/bin/smbd: error while loading shared libraries: libsasl2.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    May 22 10:17:03 andydesktop systemd[1]: smbd.service: control process exited, code=exited status=127
May 22 10:17:03 andydesktop systemd[1]: Failed to start Samba SMB/CIFS server.
May 22 10:17:03 andydesktop systemd[1]: Unit smbd.service entered failed state
I have updated with pacman -Syu and installed libsasl. I tried enabling the testing repositories, but I don't think it found a newer version (not 100% sure about this but it is still broken). pacman -Qi libsasl returns:
    Name : libsasl
    Version : 2.1.26-2
Description : Cyrus Simple Authentication Service Layer (SASL) Library
    Architecture : x86_64
    URL : http://cyrusimap.web.cmu.edu/

Install Date : Wed 22 May 2013 10:41:32 AM EDT
Install Reason : Installed as a dependency for another package
    Install Script : No

    locate libsasl2 returns:
    /usr/lib/libsasl2.so
    /usr/lib/libsasl2.so.3
    /usr/lib/libsasl2.so.3.0.0
Seems to me samba's looking for an older version of libsasl, but I'm not sure which one to downgrade to - or if that's even the right solution.
I found some info in this topic but I still can't figure out how to get so.2: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1272906 I did notice that my libsasl was built a day after the one in that thread; maybe they changed something?
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

karol wrote:/usr/bin/smbd is provided by samba, not smbclient.
But smbd is linked to a lot of libs from smbclient. If one of those libs is linked to libsasl2.so.2, you would get this same error.
Check it out, smbd isn't linked directly to libsasl at all. objdump -x /usr/bin/smbd | grep NEEDED

  • [SOLVED] Where can I find GRUB 2 (v1.98) already compiled ?

I found this thread and someone mentioned at the bottom:
    menuentry "Arch" {
    loopback loop /iso/archlinux-2009.08-netinstall-x86_64.iso
    set root=loop
    linux /boot/vmlinuz26 lang=en locale=en_US.UTF-8 archisolabel=ARCHISO_OHD8FOH5 ramdisk_size=75%
    initrd /boot/archiso_pata.img
I would like to try it in order to properly boot Arch from a USB stick (formatted as FAT) because it keeps complaining that the "boot device" didn't show up after 30 seconds. Thank you.

FAT because the USB stick will be used for installing Arch, WinXP and running Parted Magic and a few other utilities. I would change it to ext2 but GRUB 0.4.5a doesn't want to boot it properly. Also, FAT for cross compatibility. I would like to use it as a storage device for my Windows setup too not just Linux.
Damn this stupid bug. Can you please do a pacman -S grub2 and upload it somewhere ? Like www.imagehost.org for instance.

  • (SOLVED) Kernel can't find root fs

    Hello to all!
For some odd reason, my recently installed arch won't recognize it's root filesystem. I installed arch on /dev/sda10, and I have a separate /boot partition on /dev/sda1
    GRUB 0.97 Config (arch line):
    title Arch Linux
    root (hd0,0)
    kernel /vmlinuz-linux root=/dev/sda10 rw vga=795
    initrd /initramfs-linux.img
    fstab:
    tmpfs /tmp tmpfs nodev,nosuid 0 0
    /dev/sda10 / ext4 defaults 0 1
    /dev/sda1 /boot ext4 defaults 0 1
    /dev/sda12 swap swap defaults 0 0
    Thanks for the help!

I don't think this is the cause of the problem but you shouldn't have two partitions listed with fsck priority 1 in fstab. Root should be 1 and anything else you want checked should be 2.
    You might try:
    - identifying partitions using UUID [Edit: I just saw your later post saying you'd tried this]
    - using ext2 or ext3 for /boot rather than ext4 which legacy grub does not officially support (although it should work according to the wiki even so)

    Dear Dan,
It was from InDesign that I was creating the shared pdfs. I was one of two Mac drivers in a corporate sea of Win users and had to make the change I mentioned in order for the Win users to see my pdfs for review. The difference from what you appear to be doing was that were all on an MS Exchange Server so the files were shared over the company's Exchange Server e-mail system. However, some of these files occasionally went to outside users via regular e-mail and those people had no issues either.
So what I did was tested and worked for years.
You might look at the Adobe forums or Knowledge Base to see if that is a reported issue with newer version of CS. I was on CS2 when I was doing this, and the other Mac driver was on CS3 but had no problems either.
Some Win users I've talked to find a problem opening some pdfs (not mine) in general and found they had to open Reader first and them open the file from Reader's File menu. That most often happened if the client was using an outdated version of Reader.
