With pacman? I think that should do it.
What have you tried and what went wrong?

  • [Solved]How to remove files from a failed install.

I attempted to install the caffeine package from the AUR using packer. After confirming y to proceed with installation pacman had to pull in quite a few more dependencies than I was expecting. The installation ended up failing because I have package signing set to required. This is all well and good because I don't really think caffeine is worth all the extra dependencies. However, on to my question, I see that these packages (the dependencies) have been downloaded to my system and are in the /var/cache/pacman/pkg directory, is there an easy way to tell pacman to remove just these packages other than going through and removing them one by one? Thanks for the help.

Thanks to you all. I did read pacman manpage as well as the wiki entries for pacman and pacman Tips. I was just wondering if maybe someone more proficient with the command line knew a easier way to remove the files. I know I could use pacman -Sc or pacman -Scc for clean the entire cache but was hesitant to do so because of the warnings. I think I understand that sudo pacman -R $(pacman -Qtdq) will remove orphan packages however I get an error that no targets are specified. I believe this may be due to the fact that these packages were not installed, just the binaries downloaded. Thanks again for the help. I'll mark this as solved.

  • How to remove files with package manager?

CanI remove file with package manager
For example if there is a file /apps/cq/ui/widgets/source/widgets/form/RichText.js in Author Instance A, then I delete RichText.js file using crxde.  Then I create a package remove_richtextjs.zip with filter /apps/cq/ui/widgets/source/widgets/form/
Then I open another instance Author Instance B, there is an exact same file /apps/cq/ui/widgets/source/widgets/form/RichText.js.  Is it possible that if I apply remove_richtextjs.zip, an RichText.js will be removed from Author Instance B?
    Thanks

You don't have to pay to remove files. Just drag them to the Trash and Empty the Trash.

You should focus your Google searches to the forum
site:bbs.archlinux.org how to list installed AUR packages
https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3A … 78&bih=977 (I used your title for the search)
You can set the settings to pick only the hits from e..g the last year.

  • [solved] How to remove color from yaourt output?

    Hi everyone,
I am having a problem with removing color output from yaourt.
In order to get a list of installed packages in kdemod-core, I execute the following:
    yaourt -Qs ^kdemod | grep kdemod-core | awk '{print $1}' > kdefiles.txt
Some time ago colored output was usually lost when piping commands. For some reason it is not removed anymore so that I get the following file content:
    [1;35mkdemod-core/[0m[0m[1mkdemod-kde-common
    [...] and so on
Of course pacman doesn't understand this anymore:
    pacman -S `cat kdefiles.txt`
Btw. The same options (-Qs ) with pacman search only locally installed packages.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    David

    pacman -Ss searches on-line.
Thanks, but then I don't have the packages that are installed. It is of course much faster and without color but doesn't solve my problem.
Then only thing I could find so far was a statement, that piping through less for example removes color for security reasons. That doesn't seem to be true any more.
There is a col command which outputs plain text but there are still characters left.

  • [Solved] How to remove default "performance" CPU-scaling governor.

I was goin' trough the cpu scaling wiki and i was able to add the ondemand
cpu scaling governor and the appropriate powerdriver with modprobe command.
Then the cpu speed was lowered as it should so i've added these two to the modules section in rc.conf as well, to start at boot.
After reboot cpufreq-info's output says that both governor is loaded, BUT it doesn't switch to ondemand mode.
    1. How can I remove the performance mode?
    2. Or is there a possibility to setup it somehow that it switches to ondemand only if i switch to battery mode?
    3. Other problem was for me that
    find /sys/devices/ -name ondemand
doesn't give back anything, so i cannot lower ondemands governor scaling limit. Where should be these settings?
    Now cpufreq-info output:

Not sure about 3, but everything else is covered in the wiki article linked by you.
Configuring CPU scaling is a 3-part process:
      1.  Load appropriate CPU frequency driver
      2.  Load desired scaling governor(s)
      3.  Select a method to manage switching and tuning governor(s):
You stopped after the second part.
Ye, you were right. After i didn't found that folder i was looking for i didn't continue on it.
    Turns out, if u use:
    echo "ondemand" > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
It makes that folder, and u can access all those treshold variables.
    But when just running first:
    modprobe cpufreq_ondemand
the folder for ondemand won't be created. Im sure this is logical, i'm just new to the whole logic of this.
After modifying tresholds, i've installed laptop-mode, and I need to say, it really k*cks *ss. You can set everythin u want, and it runs along fine in a daemon, using for example: acpid for checking battery state, hdparm for setting power/spinning of hard disks...
I just leave another wiki link here if someone gets here...
    LAPTOP-MODE TOOLS
There's still a not-releated question here, how come i cannot edit as a superuser directly these file under /sys/devices/system/cpu ? I know that these meant to be edited by the system, but still i tought if i'm root, i modify what i want...
    ( I know that I can assign parameters to these files with edit -n <number> > <filename> )

  • How to remove comments in packages in oracle

    hi gurus,
can any body help me to remove commented code in packages in oracle?
    thanks in advance...

The obvious suggestion would be to edit the package (or package body) in whatever editor you prefer and recompile. I'm assuming you know that, however, since you managed to create the package in the first place. If that's not what you're looking for, can you explain a bit more what you're asking?

  • [SOLVED]How to install Arch Linux UEFI to dual-boot?

    Hey,
so I have a Lenovo G50-70 on which I want to have a Windows-Arch dualboot. I followed the Beginner's Guide, installed Arch but ended up with an inaccessible Windows. I could boot into Windows from the BIOS utility, but not from the gummiboot bootloader.
The guide said if I wanted to dual-boot, I must leave windows EFI partition alone, which I did. I have my Windows partitions set up the Windows way, with the system reserved and EFI and recovery partitions, and I have my Windows partition of course and a data partition. After that I have some unallocated space, on which I made the Arch partitions, /dev/sda6 as an ESP partition for the EFI files, /dev/sda7 as root, /dev/sda8 as swap and /dev/sda9 as /home. The install process went without any error, then I made some configurations and installed dosfstools & efibootmgr. After that, I installed gummiboot and ran "gummiboot --path=/boot install". After that I created the configuration files exactly like in the guide, unmounted the partitions, rebooted and saw that there's no (easy) way getting into Windows. So my question is: how can I install Arch to have a working dual-boot system?
Thanks for any help in advance!
    Regards, Matteussz

    Hey,
Writing to you on my working dual-boot with ArchLinux (Windows 8.1 64-Bit, UEFI)
So first step I've done is creating free space of an existing partition in the windows disk management (windows button and r and then type diskmgmt.msc). At this step, you have to record which partition your efi partition is (just take a look at your efi partition and remember the mb of this partition for later)
Then go into the uefi settings (bios) and disable secure boot as well as fast boot, otherwise it could cause data crash.
Boot your Arch Live CD and follow the beginners guide all the way along till you reach the disk management.
If you want to have swap, you can create yours right now, should be a primary partition of about 4gigs.
Next partition is gonna be your home, system partition (I've didn't created two partitions for home and for the system but you could do this as well as just go with one partition) this partition gonna be formatted in ext4
Next step, you have to mount your windows-efi partition in /boot/efi but don't format it dont remeber if it asks you how to use the partition but if so, just use as fat32.
After the disk management go ahead with your arch installation and follow the beginners guide. (Make sure you're using the grub bootloader)
After finishing the installation, restart your system, hopefully you will recognize the opening grub menu. (but dont scare, windows wont show in the grub menu at this time so you have to boot your arch)
Arrived in arch linux type the command
    grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
Reboot and your done with your Arch Linux, Windows 8 dual boot, hopefully

  • [SOLVED] How to see real Linux Ram usage ? (diferent values)

    Hi everyone,
I am using Linux (Ubuntu at start and now Arch Linux) since 2004. I never had problems to understand it but now I have a problem that I cannot understand.
I have 2 computers (one is mine Asus 1215N and one is from my girlfriend Asus 1005HA), the first one has Arch Linux with Gnome3, and the seconde one has Arch Linux with Xfce4.
When I check the ram I get this (on my Asus 1215N):
    (Terminal 'free') :
    Total - 2055584
    Used - 497792
    Buffers/Cache Used - 164288
    (Gnome System Monitor)
    162,4 Mib (8,1%) de 2,0Gb
    Conky
    Ram Usage 488Mib/1.96Gib - 24%
So, apparently Gnome System Monitor only show me the Buffers/Cache Used memory (isn't that wrong ?) and the other two show me the "real" Ram usage (~488Mb)
Now on the seconde laptop conky show me the Buffers/Cache Used memory (when i look at it I see for example 120Mib but when I look at 'free' he says to me that the used memory is 500Mib.
So right now I don't really undestand who's wrong and who's right... did my Gnome3 really use 400mb at startup ? Did the xfce of my girlfriend really uses ~70-120mb at startup ?
(PS: we have the same conkyrc file.
    Thanks in advance

    aliasbody wrote:
Thanks for your help. But if the Buffers/Cache free is the real Free ram as I understand, then Free Memory is the allocated for software (but free)... That seem's good, but I have a question, I have made a teste, when I tried to open a lot of Chromium tabs (Chromium is a good example as it uses a LOT of ram..)
    Then the Buffers/Cache Free was at 1200Mib / 2000Mib (At free -m)
and Free Memory was at 19500 Mib / 2000Mib (At free -m)
And then the system starts using swap...
So if the Buffers are the really free ram and the Free Memory the all allocated memory and free why doesn't he cleans the allocated/cache before creating a new and starting using the swap ?
You seem to have the terms mixed up. Used memory is the cached memory and the memory allocated for applications grouped together. +/- buffers/cache is only the memory allocated for applications (It basically means used memory - buffers and cache).
As to why it starts swapping, I have no idea. It shouldn't, unless it's really out of RAM.
aliasbody wrote:Ps : And why did I got 2 diferent values from 2 pc's with the same conky configuration ? (since the first laptop show Free Ram and the second onde show Buffers/Cache)
That's very strange too. Are you absolutely sure that the configs are the same? Sounds like yours is missing the no_buffers option.

Yes, they're the default webbrowser and filemanager or something. There are threads about this on the forums and KDE 4.7.1 is just round the corner, maybe it will fix it.
