[SOLVED] I want to change my tty resolution

Just that, I want to change my console resolution (NOT the font size) cause it doesn't use my whole screen.
I've reading about KMS and i know there's incomplete documentation. I understand this

If you are using an open-source driver(e.g. nouveau) you should have a good tty resolution out of the box, if not, you can do this (i use this for my tty resolution):
pacman -S v86d
And then edit /etc/modprobe.d/uvesafb.conf
nano /etc/modprobe.f/uvesafb.conf
In the line that says "mode_option" set your resolution, e.g.
options uvesafb mode_option=1280x800-32 scroll=ywrap
Edit /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
nano /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
and add "v86d" to the hooks array after udev hook,e.g.
HOOKS="base udev v86d ..."
Finally rebuild the kernel image:
mkinitcpio -p kernel26
That's all...this is the preferred method for the framebuffer.

How do I change the image resolution of a photo?

     I am the beginner in Photoshop.
     I want to change one image resolution from 72 dpi to 300 dpi.
     So, I search and got one pdf for change the resolution of the image. In that they mention, take the "Printscreen" of the image and paste in the photoshop and change the mode(Index - flatten) and change resolution via the "Image -> image size -> Resolution".
     Like that i did, it changed correctly.
     After that I Open one already saved image file in Photoshop and do that same steps but the resolution was not changed.
So, now how to change that saved image resolution to 300 dpi...??

To find the current resolution of your image, follow these steps:
With your image open in Photoshop, Image > Image Size (Like you've already done earlier).
Check the resolution as shown above. If it doesn't show 300, enter 300, hit OK and 'Save' your image.
Open the file and check again. If it still shows 72, post back with more details of the type of file you're trying to open in Photoshop and if possible, a screenshot so we can help.

Help, Adobe reader x wants to change my screen rsolution ?

I just installed adobe x for windows 7 and adobe or my computer wants to change my screen resolution when i load it, to 450x 680 i think.
I down loaded the latestest driver for my ATI card and it is still doing it, has anyone got any helpful hints or things i may try to get it to stay at the same resolution now which i think is 724x768, i just checked thats the resolution........Please help it's very frustrating and i can't seem to find the answer.

I have just found this post and am still experiencing this problem, still, even after updating to 10.1, and still trying the disabling of Protected Mode at startup. I am running Windows 7, 32bit version. I am trying to print to an HP 4500 series plotter, on ARCH size D (24x36). Once I set all of my settings and hit print, I receive two dialogue boxes. One says "The document could not be printed." Once you click "OK", a second box pops up that says, "There were no pages selected to print." However, under "Print Range", I had "All" selected.
All worked fine before updating to Acrobat X.

I'm afraid that you may be confusing two different 'passwords' - there's your Apple ID (the user name and password that you used to get into these forums) and then there's your computer user name and password - usually two seperate user names and passwords.
If you want to change your password for your user account on your computer, go to System Preferences>Users & Groups and unlock the preference pane. Then you can select your user name and change your password there. Changing a user name is a bit complex and I don't think you want to try that!

This sounds like a problem beyond resolution.
I'd start by restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds, or resetting it using the reset option under general. You should also try restarting your router.
If that doesn't help, try a restore.
If the problem continues:
Check that the HDMI cable is correctly seated at both ends.
Try disconnecting the cable and connecting it again.
Try another HDMI cable.
Make sure your TV supports 720p (Apple TV 2)
Try the Apple TV with another TV

[SOLVED] - want to change from vanilla kde to kdemod

Want to change from vanilla kde to kdemod - feeling chicken here 'cos I'm on a production machine.
So what is the best way?
If I do a "pacman -R kde" I get a bunch of dependencies. Suppose I get rid of those as well (haven't dared trying), do I just enable [kdemod-core] for x86_64 and reinstall kde and dependencies from above?

Might want to add the extragear repo in addition to core. Then you can just install kdemod or kdemod-minimal or whatever floats your boat. I imagine being an Archer you'd want to work up from minimal. Only suggestion is to back up ~/.kde4 and ~/.local and maybe ~/.kde if it exists. It really isn't a big deal switching over. I've switched back and forth up n down quite a lot, and problems nearly always are a result of one of the aforementioned folders, and can be resolved by starting fresh (ie killing those folders or using a different account to test) and moving stuff over from backups. Dependency issues are usually not very difficult to sort out. Just remove all kde-related things that are directly tied in to kde (ie amarok and vlc you can leave), and install.
Other than that, the chakra/kdemod site gives good instructions on being sure you don't have anything screwed up, but I'm sure a long-time user knows the RTFM by now

My printer scans images at 200 dpi but I want to change it to scan at 300 dpi to get a better quality image, but I can't figure out how to change the settings for the resolution. I have a Mac OS X 10.8.5 Help!

I read your post, which indicates that you are unable to change the dpi for scanning.
I can help you with this.
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. The Airprint driver might be installed instead of the Printer's driver. (usually defaults to Airprint)
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen should show the name.
If the printer name shows Airprint then that is the Apple drivers, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
Did you download and install the Full Feature Software for 10.9?

What scanning software are you using?
Try scanning with the Apple Software to see if you have the same results.
How to Scan: OS X v10.9.

[solved]script fails when changing profile through powerdevil.

i use ondemand governor and i want to change up_threshold value.
Whenever i change profile through powerdevil up_threshold gets its default vaule of 80.
what i did was to create a script named threshold containing the lines:
#!/bin/bash
sudo sh -c 'echo 50 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/ondemand/up_threshold'
i have also set through /etc/sudoers that this script is passwordless for my user.
if i run the script, it successfully changes the value. It also runs successfully if i put it in startup.
My problem is that it fails to run when i choose it to run when a profile loads through powerdevil. I am refering to the feature shown below :
at first i thought that this function has a problem. so i chose to run kate, and when i changed profile, kate started immediately. So i guess that there is a problem with my script.
Any ideas?

i cant shoose anything for frequency scaling.
What do i have to do to be able to set "ondemand" or "always lowest frequency"?
Wich daemons and/or modules do i have to activate to change the frequency policy?

I have searched through just about every single forum, website and search engine there is and haven't found anything. Perhaps I am phrasing my question wrong. I currently own a Macbook Pro 13.3'' Retina (Of Mid-2014 since I just bought it?) and I can't figure out how to change the resolution. The OS seems to default to 2560x1600 no matter what I set it to because I think all its changing is the scaling. Is there a way to do this? I used to own a Macbook Air 13.3'' which ran 1440x900 and I know that it was pixelated. On the same size display here...when I run the claimed "1440x900" its still ultra sharp which means its using scaling I assume. Any ideas how do I change the actual resolution, not just the scaling. The OSX settings currently seem to be just the equivalent of modifying the DPI like you can in Windows. I want to find out if there is a way to change the actual output resolution.

The MacBook Pro like all laptops has an LCD screen. Like all LCD screens the screen has a single physical resolution, in the case of your MacBook Pro Retina 13.3" it is 2560x1600 pixels. This is the number is dots the screen is physically made of.
In the old days when desktop computers used CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) displays which looked like TVs these sort of displays could display multiple resolutions in fact CRTs have no single fixed physical resolution. However LCDs which use totally different technology do only have a single 'real' resolution.
If your really interested in how a CRT can do different resolutions then the answer is that a CRT uses an electron beam to excite the phosphor display on the front of the display (to make it glow), it scans from left to right, moves down a line and then does the next line, and so on till it reaches the bottom and then goes back to the top. The speed (rate) at which it does this is known as the horizontal frequency and the vertical (refresh) frequency or rate. If the horizontal line is drawn specific time and that is divided in to 640 units, then it can be told to turn off and on 640 times per line, if the same line is drawn in the same time but the interval is divided in to 1024 then it can 'draw' 1024 horizontal pixels instead of 640 horizontal pixels. In actuality the display has no physical pixel you are merely lighting up small or larger areas on the screen and hence a CRT has no single fixed resolution.
In order for a computer using an LCD display to use a different apparent resolution it has to 'scale' the image to a different size, as a very simple example if we wanted to scale down to 1280x800 pixels which is exactly half 2560x1600 then the computer would use 2x2 (four) physical pixels to represent a single scaled pixel. Often however the chosen scaled resolution may not be an exact multiple like that example. Apple on the Retina display have provided some suggested scaled resolutions which work reasonably well these being 1680 by 1050, 1440 by 900, and 1024 by 640 pixels.
None of these will look as good as 2560x1600 because the screen physically is made up of 2560x1600 dots and no amount of cheating will change that.

I use aol mail, and I want to change my mailto: to aol. Firefox won't let me do that. When I click on an email link in a webpage, my computer goes nuts.

My computer seems to want to link me to Internet Explorer, which I don't use often. The computer starts running very fast and hot. Sometimes, I get a multitude of identical error messages from Explorer, and it is often hard to delete them!
I thought maybe I could solve this by changing my mailto: client, but there is no link for Aol. Please help!

PS: Why am I still on AOL? I still use the first email address I got many years ago. Friends and clients know my email and use it to contact me. I don't want to change it.

but once I get to Content I am stuck. No Manage button. (there is nothing that says File Types)

Claudius,either you didn't read my post, or you jumped to conclusions. I had a skype account that was created using a microsoft account (NOT THE ACCOUNT I AM USING NOW). PURE MICROSOFT ACCOUNT NO OTHER ACCOUNT LINKING.I had to change the primary mail of that account.I was told "no can do" by skype support.I found that if I went to account settings and clicked on the link on the line below the one that said "MICROSOFT etc" (labeled something along the lines of "TV or Device") I got the opportunity to set the password of the "live:username" account (WHICH YOU COINCIDENTALLY HAVE TO DO IF YOU WANT TO USE SMART TVs ETC).Once that was done, I COULD SUCCESSFULLY DO WHAT SKYPE SUPPORT SAID WAS IMPOSSIBLE- I could change the primary mail address. once that was done, and NOT BEFORE, I linked the account to a facebook account as well, just to be sure I have more than one way to access the skype account. Hi!I ran into the same problem as a lot of other people seem to have done. I am changing ISP and because of that I have to change my mail address from my 10 year old [e-mail removed for privacy and security] to something else, this time I choose to use an outlook.com address in the hope that I will be able to keep that a bit longer. last week I realized that my skype account had my old expiring address as the primary mail, and that the primary mail was the only mail that skype will use for communication with me - I already had 2 other mail addresses in my skype profile (outlook.com and gmail). The skype account was created last summer using my microsoft account, and the microsoft account is the only means I have for accessing the skype account. So I logged on and opended the profile page, went on to edit the info and marked my outlook mail as the primary, clicked save and got the password question. I entered the password I use for logging on (ie the microsoft account password), but was told that the password was wrong. I tried everything and some more things, I spent 40-50 minutes on a text chat with skype support, only to be told that it can't be done and that the skype account was hard tied to the mail address I had used when creating the account, which I found very strange as I had used my microsoft account. yes, when I created the skype account, the only mail I had connected to the microsoft account was my "[e-mail removed for privacy and security]" mail, but I have since then, without any problems, been able to create an outlook.com address, and have that added, added a gmail account, set the outlook.com as the primary for the microsoft account and remove the "[e-mail removed for privacy and security]" address from the microsoft account. no problem.The problem is actually worse as the mail account will be free for use after april 1, which means that a person claiming that mail address will risk getting extremely confusing mails regarding a skype account they don't have, they will have difficulties creating a skype account of their own, AND they can take over my skype account (as they are the owners of the mail address) and I won't be able to stop them. It turns out that when you create a skype account using your microsoft account (and I guess your facebook account), skype will actually create a "proper" skype user account as well, but they hide it from you, and you won't get a password set for it. It is the password for this "hidden" account you have to enter when you want to change the primary password It turns out that I was also unable to connect my facebook account to my skype account for the very same reason, but here it was more obvious, as I had to enter my skype username and passwor when connecting the accounts, and the microsoft account wasn't accepted there . so what do you need to do? well - those of you who have a smart tv (or some other device) that can't log on to skype using a microsoft account, have already done the work (provided you use that tv/device with skype) you log on to skype and open the account settings page, on the line below "microsoft account [email protected] unlink change microsoft password" you'll see a line saying "TV or Device" or something similar (I have no idea what the english text is) here you have a link you can click on where you will be prompted to enter the password for your "live:username" account. once you have done that you get instructions saying that for smart TVs etc, you enter "live:username" as the skye user and the newly created password as your password.The good news is that you now have 1) the identity of your skype user ("live:" and your name where the user name is the combined string "live:username" which in my case was "live:myname"); and 2) a password that is valid for your skype account. what I did next was open up the profile page, edit the profile, mark the outlook.com mail address asthe primary, click save and when prompted for the password, I entered the password I set in the previous step, and that's it, I now had a new primary mail (I got the confirmation mai sent to the new mail address right after I updated the info in skype). I also successfully removed my soon defunct mail address from the mail address list in my skype account, and I then connected my facebook account to my skype account (using live:myname ase the username and my shiny new password). So at the moment I have three different methods available to me when logging in to skype:- my microsoft account- my skype user (live:myname)- my facebook account.the ONLY thing to be aware of is that the name of the microsoft account, as presented on the account settings page in skype, still is my old [e-mail removed for privacy and security] mail address NOTE that this is a presentation issue only, someone thought that it was a good idea to save the original name of the microsoft account in the skype database and use that for presentation. It is NOT used when logging on, when you log on it will use the UID of you rmicrosoft account. if it disturbs you, you can always disconnect you rmicrosoft account from your skype account and reconnect it, and you should see the current mail address associated with the microsoft account. (this is safe to do because you have at least one other method to log on ) I hope that skype will amend their FAQ with this info. I did enter into a second chat with skype support, explaining what I díd to resolve the problem they failed to solve. so there it at least 2 people at skype support who know how to resolve the problem. -cheers,Anders

I went into the PC settings and tried to change the display resolution. This changes the size of all the icons (not only Adobe) but it does not solve the problem when I open an Adobe application (Photoshop or Illustrator)... The PC is run under Windows 8.1 and my display resolution is 3200x1800 (but again, when I change the settings for a smaller resolution, only the size of the icons is affected. Once I open the software, the problem is still there, extra-small toolbars...). Help!!!

Anything before CC is not high-DPI compatible. Feel free to continue to experiment with your system settings.

How do I change the printer resolution on my OSX 10.6.2 laptop?
I have an ubuntu print server and it seems to only work at all using the gutenprint drivers. On my ubuntu client I had to change the print resolution from "auto" to 600x600 to make it work just fine.
The best I can do is make the Mac print pages squished down to 1/4 size. I don't see the same resolution option on the Mac.
Mac OSX 10.6.2
Ubuntu Server 9.10
Printer: Canon S900
Cups driver: Canon S800 Gutenprint v5.2.3
Cups version 1.4.2 on the mac
Cups version 1.3.9 on Ubuntu Server

I can't speak for the printer directly, but most functions to change resolution are in the dropdown menu at the bottom of the print dialog. It has a gray bar running through it separating the basic functions from the advanced settings.
If you don't see that, but do see a blue button with a black triangle pointing down, click on that. Then you'll be able to set the advanced settings.
Once you set up the printer the way you like, save it as a preset. If you want that as a default, see this [MacOSXHint|http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20100125135830153].

Is there any way to change the screen resolution in Front Row?

I've got a Mac Mini plugged in to my TV, and I want to be able to change the screen resolution depending on the content I'm watching (as some content is in 4:3 aspect ratio, some is in 16:9, and I'd prefer to have the picture filling the screen completely). Unfortunately, the TV doesn't have a "stretch" mode for making an 4:3 picture fit a 16:9 aspect ratio. If I know what I want to watch in advance, I can set the resolution accordingly using system prefs on the mac, but if I'm just sitting back choosing what to watch with the Apple Remote, it's annoying to have to leave front row, walk over to the computer and change resolution once I've decided what to watch, open system prefs, change resolution, re-launch Front Row and find what I wanted to watch again.
So I was wondering if anyone had figured a way to allow the screen resolution to be switched from within the FrontRow UI. I've seen that people have written python based plug-ins such as PyeTV and Understudy that allow different types of content to be added to FrontRow, but I've not found any utility plug-ins such as what I'm looking for on the net (nor could I find SDK documentation on this API in the stuff that comes with XCode).
I guess the other approach might be quick keys: has anyone had any success hooking up quick keys macros alongside front row in response to apple remote events? (seems too few events to be able to choose from, but I've never tried it, so I won't assume!) Or how about is there a way to trigger an AppleScript from within Front Row? And, of course, I'm very open to any other ideas you might have!
