[SOLVED] Installed Scilab, can't use Xcos

Hello.
I have installed Scilab with a regular pacman -S.
I can start Scilab and use its main functions. But when I try to use Xcos, I get this message:

Run

If you enabled C locale, it should work.
https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/24195 sounds similar to your problem.

Local Mac shop said to hold down "c" after inserting disk to get "disk utility" to come up in order to wipe hard drive.  I can't seem to get it to do this.

This W7 was purchased for using Fusion, as others did - per reviews from amazon.  The technician today called their contact at VMWare - Fusion not officially for use with Lion - even though I read at the VMWare support site that others have made it work.  Apparently my setup doesn't work.
Do you know how to do the proceedure for bringing up the disk utility when starting the disk?
BTW, some of the windows applications I want to continue using are Incredimail, Calendarscope, Stamps.com and a few others I have used over many years.  What do you use for email and calendar?
Wow, sounds like another reason to not use MS Windows.
Regarding your Disk Utility question, please elablorate I'm not sure what you're trying to do. Disk Utilty is just that...a utility, it's something most users never have to use especially on a new computer. Let me know what you're trying to do there before I give you some instructions.
As for as your Windows apps I would recommend using Mail and iCal, both come as part of OS X and are very robust tools. Don't discount the software built right into OS X it's very robust and powerful not all like the bloatware most Windows boxes ship with. Stamps.com well I'd look for another alternative. It's clear they don't support OS X which makes me a little suspicious that they're so behind the times.
Also if you have not been exposed to these links before I'd strongly recommend bookmarking them and using them. They're extermely useful!

Hello to all my readers.I am still using my Apple G4 1.25 Ghz MDD running Leopard 10.5.8 with iTunes 10.6.3 installed. Can I use an Phone 4s with iOS 5 with this set up? I have read the iPhone iOS 5 user guide and it appears that I can but is anybody actually doing it ? My current phone is a £10 Nokia and I've neither wish nor cash to spend more than a grand upgrading to an intel based machine (at the moment) ! Regards to you all.

If you can find an iPhone running iOS5 and those are the specs for iOS5, there is no reason it should not work.
If you want a more current version of iOS or a more current device, a Windows computer is always an option at significantly less cost.
Granted, there is no requirement to have a computer to use an iPhone.

It works as expected for me. I wonder if it's because of borked up config files. You can do a quick check for this by creating a fresh account and testing there to see if everything outside your ~/ is set up correctly.
If it does turn out to be a config problem, isolate kate-related rc files from .kde4/share/config. You might have to reconfigure everything in kate if you do this.

  • I won an ipad 2 in a contest (64gb 3g) does it have a carrier already installed or can I use my cell phone carrier (sprint)

I won an ipod2 in a contest and have sprint for my cell phone carrier. Can I use sprint as a carrier on this ipad or does it have to be verizon or at&t?

I'm surprised that it doesn't say on the box. Does it say either "CDMA" or "GSM"? You can also check the model number; unless the information I found is incorrect, the GSM/AT&T model is A1396 and the CDMA/Verizon model is A1397. You can also look for a SIM slot. The Version-model iPad 2 doesn't have even an empty slot, if memory serves.

My iMAC is a 2011 3.4 GHz intel i7 based with a 27in display.  A year ago, I bought a Microsoft win pro 7 64-bit english OEM OS to install over a newly assembled AMD PC.  I never installed it.  Now, I want to put it on my iMAC using either Apple Bootcamp or Parallels.  The win 7 OEM package has a lot of verbage about using an OEM preinstallation kit (OPK) and that it must be preinstalled on the hard drive.  Is it OK to install this win7 version following the Bootcamp instructions.?

  • MacBook air won't install Mavericks, can't use utility to restore

I Tried to update the operating system on my 2013 MacBook air, it gets stuck about 12 minutes in then won't install. I have tried to use the disc utility to restore previous os but it says the disc needs repair but the repair function is not availabl. Any ideas how I can fix?
    thanks

It was is lion or 10.7, now when I start up it goes straight to the maverick installation prompt. It goes through this for a few minutes then comes up installation failed. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance. So for some reason it's not allowing the installation of new so to be completed but I think it may have gone to far to restore old OS.

  • SL install error: "Can't use disk to start up"

I've spent some time searching the forums but haven't come across a solution that works yet. I currently have 10.5.8 and have a family pack for SL. I've installed it on a 24" iMac just fine and a 17" MBP. I'm now trying to install on a 15" late-2008 MBP and am getting the error that says snow leopard can't install to my Macintosh HD because that disk can't be used to start the computer. That's funny because it seems to be able to start just fine and I'm not experiencing any nagging issues with my Leopard install. I'll mention that I use Boot Camp and have a Win7 partition on the same drive.
Per one of the other posts I've tried the following:
    1. Zap the Pram- No change
    2. Resize Mac partition- Disk Utility won't let me change the Mac partition for some reason. It says that it needs to be HFS+ Journaled, which it is. That's a bit confusing.
    3. Repair Permissions- I've repaired permissions on the Mac HD, but no change. I've heard that I need to repair permissions at the root drive level in Disk Utility, but when I click on the "whole drive" icon, Repair Permission is grayed out.
For insurance sake, I've cloned both my BootCamp partition and my Mac Partition ( I also have an up-to-date TM backup and everything's backed up to Mozy as well). So I could format the drive and try a fresh install of SL. Then I would have the choice of using Migration Assistant or something of the like to pull in apps and Docs from TM right? I don't mind doing a fresh install but it would certainly save time to simply upgrade.
Are there any performance issues that I might encounter by using Migration Assistant to pull the info from my TM backup?
Any way to address the issue so I can do a simple upgrade?
    Thx.
    Jonathan

When I look I see GPT/GUID 200MB partition, then one 128MB, followed by HFS+, and a second 128MB at the end.
Maybe things have changed and the docs on rEFIt doesn't acknowledge Apple's use of UEFI 2.x that began in 2008.
    Quote from their web site:
*Myth: Mac OS X requires GPT*
+This is mostly a myth. Mac OS X boots and runs just fine from disks using MBR partitioning, or even APM (Apple Partition Map, used on PowerPC Macs).+
+However, the Mac OS X Installer will refuse to put a fresh copy of Mac OS X on a disk that’s not using GPT. You can work around this using cloning tools like SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner. Install Mac OS X on a GPT-partitioned disk first, then clone it onto the disk of your choice.+
+Apple’s firmware updates are another issue. The exact requirements are not known at this time, but they are known to not work if you don’t have GPT and you don’t have a EFI System Partition.+
+Myth: Mac OS X requires a hidden EFI System Partition+
+Every GPT-formatted disk is supposed to have an EFI System Partition, and Apple’s tools create one at the beginning of the disk. However, Mac OS X doesn’t actually use it; the EFI System Partition is completely empty on a standard Intel Mac. Apple has added a HFS+ file system driver to its firmware, and the firmware boots Mac OS X directly from the partition it is installed on.+
+Also see above; Mac OS X can boot from a MBR-only disk with no trace of an EFI System Partition.+
+There is still some uncertainty about firmware updates, though. So far no one has investigated how they work in detail, and some people believe they require the EFI System Partition to be present.+
    +Myth: EFI requires GPT+
+The GPT specification is part of the EFI specification. However, all parts and features of EFI are just as well-defined for MBR-partitioned disks.+

I've never used rEFIt but obviously seen it discussed and used a number of times.

Unfortunately, if you have your HP device connected to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme, only the print function (and possibly ink level check) is supported. If you need to scan, copy, fax or perform other maintenance checks, you'll need to plug the HP directly into your computer.

  • SSD Issue: Can't Install OSX-Can I use Target Mode to Install OSX Snow Leopard onto a laptop?

Cannot reinstall my OSX Snow Leopard from my original disks: 2010 MacBook Pro 7,1.
Cannot do a Recovery Install—just put in a solid state drive, and have to do a clean install, cannot clone old OS off the old hard drive.
Can I make my tower/desktop computer work somehow, I have a .dmg Snow Leopard Installation file on my tower. I'm out of options; I've tried to do a recovery download of Yosemite and usb startup thumb drive. Nothing is working: crashing, stopping short of full installation.
I'm just trying to get any operating system to install on the MacBook Pro. Nothing seems to work.
-the old hard drive had issues that couldn't be resolved, seemed like software.
-swapped it out with ssd drive, had made backup of all files.
-tried to startup with installation disks/ original osx snow leopard disk. Failed, wouldn't complete
-tried to do recovery download installation via internet, cmd-r, with Yosemite but that seems like a long shot. Just kept stalling, so it seems like this model cannot support that os without first having the original os?
-made a thumb drive an installation of osx 10.6.8
    -nothing is working

Since you provide no information regarding what has happened other than it didn't work, how can we help you? I can only give you the whole process:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the SSD's entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
             installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. You can now log onto the App Store with your Apple ID. Go to your Purchases page and re-download the last version of OS X that you purchased and/or downloaded prior to the release of Yosemite.

  • HELP can't install lion can't use the recovery HD

After lion has sat there for an hour installing with the installation bar and after it had completed installing and restarted. When it boots back up it just sits there with a grey screen, apple logo and a little rotating circle. I have let that rotating circle sit there for an hour and nothing is happening. I did a force shut down and booted it up in the recovery HD. I went to reinstall lion, everytime there is nothing left on the bar a message pops up "Do you want to cancel this download?" and I never touched anything. After pressing cancel twice to continue the reinstallation it goes back to the menu it start with. What can I do?
    Thanks for any help

I was too optimistic. Now I was able to install PS again from the Download link in the CC website.
I followed as PS was installed in CC console's "Find new apps" section. Everything OK here.
I can see "You installed Photoshop CC" in CC console/home. Everything OK here.
I can't fint the actual program anywhere. Nothing on Launchpad. Theres a folder "Adobe photoshop CC" in Finder/Applications. But it's relatively empty. Nothing to start the actual program with.
    I restarted already. Problem remains.
