[SOLVED] jdk7-openjdk exists in filesystem when it's not installed

I'm having a problem updating the jdk7-openjdk package (jdk7-openjdk-7.u21_2.3.9-4). When I went to update via pacman, pacman replied that files existed in the filesystem. I removed the jdk and reinstalled, only to be told that the package still exists in the filesystem.

But when I go to check if it's installed:
$ pacman -Q | grep jdk
jre7-openjdk 7.u21_2.3.9-4
jre7-openjdk-headless 7.u21_2.3.9-4
$
The JREs are there, but the JDK is not. So somehow it's installed and not installed at the same time. How do I tell pacman that the installed package is not installed when it says it's both installed and not installed? Pacman -Rdd does not work as it's not installed. Pacman -S doesn't work as it's installed.

Thank you very much for your help. I greatly appreciate it. I only use pacman to upgrade, update, or remove anything. Even if the package is from the AUR; in which case I use the -U. In this case, I tried to install the JRE, JRE headless, and the JDK at the same time. All of the tanked, so I used the pacman -Rdd to remove the JDK package. That's when the trouble started.
If it's safe to use the --force command in this case, I'll try it.
**UPDATE**
Looks like using the --force option worked. When I run the previous command, I get:
$ pacman -Qo /usr/bin/appletviewer
/usr/bin/appletviewer is owned by jdk7-openjdk 7.u21_2.3.9-4
$
Thanks again for the help! I'll mark the thread 'solved'.

  • /lib exists in filesystem when installing testing/glibc 2.16.0-2

I'm getting this error when installing testing/glibc 2.16.0-2:
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
    glibc: /lib exists in filesystem
As I did not find anything particular related to this in the mailling list or the forum, I'd like to ask: Is it safe to --force this transaction?

Same thing here. Mostly it was due to virtualbox (modules from vboxbuild). There were also two packages from AUR (networkmanager-git and cpufreq-systemd)

Damn, I broke my system. Error: Could not replace directory /lib with file. glibc was removed, but not reinstalled. See you later.
Edit: Fixed with rescue cd. (remove /lib, extracte whole glibc-package to /, reboot, reinstall glibc)

  • [SOLVED] PKGBUILD /lib exists in filesystem

    Apologies for the similar thread...
I know there's a lot of topics similar to this with particular files conflicting with various packages when installing, but I couldn't quite see the issue with my PKGBUILD.
    PKGBUILD contents (without the vars):

I don't understand why the problem is the symbolic links at /lib and /usr/sbin. Doesn't cp -dpr follow the symlinks?

Can someone help me changing the PKGBUILD from tm_smapi-ck?

  • Why does the OS ask me to use StuffIt when StuffIt is not installed?

I have a brand-new Mac Book (10.4.8). I have not explicitly installed either Microsoft Office (though the Office trial is still running) or StuffIt.
I'm trying to download and open a .sit file. It erroneously gets opened by Microsoft Word. I've gathered from elsewhere on this forum that the problem is that I don't have StuffIt installed on my machine.
I used Spotlight to look for an application on my machine called Stuffit*, and couldn't find any.
However, when I try to download the file using Firefox I get a dialog box asking me whether I want to save it to disk or open it with StuffIt.
    I'm confused.
    1) Does Stuffit come preinstalled on the Mac?
    2) If StuffIt is not installed on my machine, why do I get an option to use it in a download dialog?
Mac Book   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    1) Does Stuffit come preinstalled on the Mac?
    No
    2) If StuffIt is not installed on my machine, why do I get an option to use it in a download dialog?
Don't know.. but if you're certain that neither you nor anyone else with access to the computer has installed it, you could just download it.

If you choose the option to Open it with Stuffit from FireFox, what happens?

  • Installer 2705 Error when NI-DAQ not installed

My application uses Measurement Studio controls for data acquisition. However, not all users of my software need the data acquisition features. My installation succeeds when NI-DAQ is installed on the target machine, but fails with a 2705 error if not. Is there a workaround for this. I don't want to have to install NI-DAQ on each users machine just so they can get a report. My application is written in VB.NET and uses both .NET and Active-X controls from Measurement Studio. The installation was created in Visual Studio.NET.

The project automatically identified several merge modules, so this wasn't the problem. It turns out that the one step I missed relates to the addition of nimetautils.msm, which I added manually. At the end of the help topic "Distributing Measurement Studio .NET Applications," there is a footnote that says that in order to include nimetautils.msm, I must manually add ProgramFilesFolder to the directory table. Note: I added nimetautils.msm because it compensates for dependancies that are missing from one of the required merge modules. I don't actually need nimetautils, except to make the installer work.

  • Getting 'successfully installed' message when it's not installed

    Hi all
I'm new to the board and very confused about something...I've tried uploading the new edition of flashplayer and while it says the upload was successful, it's not showing up when I check my programs. Help.  Thanks.
P.S.  I'm not techno savvy, so any kind soul who might have the solution to my problem, could you post in step by step format. Thanks again.
      Thanks

    Hi and AMEN!
I'd love to know who's in charge at IE, if anyone!  These people should get together.....Internet Explorer and Adobe and come up with some common plan where one group knows what the other is doing and how best to help computer users without confusing us all to death!
Bravo for trying.  Have you made any headway?  If so, let me know. If not...best of luck. I am tempted, some days, delete my current site and start from scratch. See what happens.  Worst case scenario; neither side in power (I.E. or Adobe) really knows what they're doing and basically has us jumping back and forth.  If they do, I wish they'd share that info.

  • How can I use findmyiphone when I have not installed icloud?

I lost my iphone, and when I went to my wife's iphone to find it using findmyiphone, it won't let me find it without an icloud account.  Of course, I can't get an icloud account without my iphone.  Catch-22; I did what I was supposed to do to find the phone if it got lost, it got lost, and I can't find it without the phone.
Is there anything I can do?

Assuming you setup/activated Find My Phone, on your phone, BEFORE it was lost/stolen, and it is turned on & your phone connected to the Internet, you can login to iCloud.com, from any computer & hopefully locate your phone. You can use the Find My Phone app to do the same using an iOS device.

  • Having issues with /usr/lib/libfreeimageplus.so.3 exists in filesystem

    Hello!
On sunday I did a pamcan -Suy and it fails showing:
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
    freeimage: /usr/lib/libfreeimageplus.so.3 exists in filesystem
It is trying to install: Packages (9): farstream-0.1-0.1.2-4  freeimage-3.16.0-2  gnome-desktop-sharp-2.26.0-10
                  gtkhtml-sharp-2.26.0-9 [removal]  gtksourceview2-sharp-2.26.0-10

                  wnck-sharp-2.26.0-10
    And I did this:
    pacman -Qo /usr/lib/libfreeimageplus.so.3
    error: No package owns /usr/lib/libfreeimageplus.so.3
    Any idea? what to do?

    Luuuciano:
So, I'm having the same problem.  I'm relatively new to Arch: I've  just been using  it a month or two, and I'm not entirely sure what the wiki is telling me to do when it says to "rename" the file.  Would you please elaborate for me?  I would really appreciate your help.
    Thank you,

  • [Solved] KDE 4.7: nepomukcontroller exists in filesystem

When upgrading, after downloading everything, I get the following:
checking for file conflicts [################################################################] 100%
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
    kdebase-runtime: /usr/bin/nepomukcontroller exists in filesystem
    kdebase-runtime: /usr/share/applications/kde4/nepomukcontroller.desktop exists in filesystem
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
The only other reference I've found to this issue is this post on the Chackra forums, but without replies. I've also checked the public dev mailing list, but no mention of the issue there, either. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Yep, that's what I should have done. But I somehow convinced myself that this was a problem with the update itself, and so my perspective narrowed... Anyway problem solved now (thanks for the reply nonetheless!)

  • [SOLVED]exists in filesystem

I get the error "* existst in filesystem" a lot, say every third time I do pacman -S [package]. This makes me feel like something is broken.  Normally I just check that no package owns the files, with pacman -Qo file and then go ahead with pacman -Sf [package],  and everything works but it just feels very wrong.
My theory atm is that it is the packages I installed when I first installed arch are not in pacman's database somehow. I tested this by doing pacman -Q gcc, which gave the error "package gcc doesn't exist". But gcc is installed and I know I installed it from the installation cd. Well I did a pacman -Sf gcc, and now pacman knows about gcc. How can I fix this, or will it go away once I have updated all the packages I initially installed. Are there any better way of fixing this?
    [edit]
I tested my theory with one more example, doing pacman -Q pacman gives "package "pacman" does not exist". Well and pacman is obviously installed and it was installed from the installation cd. What should I do because I guess if pacman doesn't know about these packages I will not get any updates right? Should I go ahead and do pacman -Sf pacman?

    Thanks!
I modified the method in the wiki somewhat since most of my packages was recognized by pacman I thought it was unnecessary to reinstall them all. The script given in the link above gives you a file "pkglist" which contains all packages you have ever installed, I only want to reinstall those that pacman has forgot about so I write the following in a file, e.g. broken_pkg.sh, and make it executable
    #!/bin/bash
    PKG=$(cat pkglist)
    for pkg in $PKG
    do
    pkg_broken=$(pacman -Q $pkg 2>&1 | grep "not found")
    if [ -n "$pkg_broken" ]
    then
    echo $pkg
    fi
    done
    and then I run
    ./broken_pkg.sh > broken_pkg
and then do exactly what's done on the wiki but with "broken_pkg" instead of "pkglist". If you like you could just combine the teo scripts into one that does both tasks.
Anyway thanks for the help nothing seems to be broke so far! I will mark this [SOLVED] when I have done some updates without any problems.

  • [SOLVED] Error "libpng12: /usr/lib/libpng.so.3 exists in filesystem".

I've just tried to install the stable "google-chrome" package from AUR with the command.  I have all of the dependencies already installed except for these two:
    - libjpeg6 (building from AUR)
    - libpng12 (package found)
When the package manage tries to install "libpng12-1.2.43-1", I get the following error:
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
    libpng12: /usr/lib/libpng.so.3 exists in filesystem
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
According to the file manager (Thunar), the file /usr/lib/libpng.so.3 is a link to /usr/lib/libpng.so.
This is probably a silly question (as I'm a clueless newbie!) but... can I just delete this link and expect the installation of libpng12 to replace it so that everything will still work...?
    Thanks in advance :-)

A tip: run pacman -Qo on the file in question, either you put that symlink there yourself or strange things are happening on your system.

  • [SOLVED] /usr/share/aclocal/nspr.m4 exists in filesystem

pacman -Syu fails with this error:
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)

Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
I found this thread, which suggested resyncing mirrors, but that didn't help.

FYI: archlinux is widely known for our excellent wiki.  Be sure to check there and search the forums before starting new threads.  Many problems can be solved with a good search.
As a second FYI, I don't know if the use of the manjaro boards (linked in OP) was just a coincidence of what your previous search gave you or if you are using Manjaro.  If it's the latter there are many differences between Manjaro and Archlinux.  In this case they are similar enough to share a solution, but in other cases we would be unable to help you here.  In short, if you are using Manjaro, be sure to ask on their forums if you have future problems.

I already searched for this and I found out that this is common when using the testing repository, but I'm not using it.
Should i delete /etc/mtab? I also tried to reboot a couple of times and nothing changed.
I can still install new packages.

jasonwryan wrote:Read the news on the front page...
    Well, that was easy
When upgrading to filesystem-2011.12 there will be a conflict with /etc/mtab.
    Install the package as follows:
    pacman -S filesystem --force
It is strongly advised to avoid the --force or -f switch as it is not safe. However, in this particular case it is needed as deleting /etc/mtab manually would break pacman.
The reason for the conflict is that the file used to be generated at boot and hence not owned by any package. Now it is a symlink to /proc/self/mounts owned by filesystem. This change means that initscripts no longer requires write access to the rootfs (though other packages might).
