[SOLVED] Kernel bug fix, works for me!

Having been hit by the kernel bug that interferes with internet access & having to downgrade the kernel to escape the bug.  I am happy to say that after reading a bug report on the subject here:
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11721
Courtesy of a link posted by Misfit138, I found deep down in the report dialogue that the following command as root, worked for the poster of the bug:
echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_timestamps
So I did a yaourt -Syu & found amongst other packages a minor kernel update, which did not solve my internet problems, but after su, & then entering the above command in the Terminal my internet works as it should!
If this solution works for you, then add the following to your /etc/sysctl.conf:
#Temporary workaround for tcp issue with 2.6.27
net.ipv4.tcp_timestamps = 0
Thanks again Misfit138
I hope this solution works for all of the other bug bitten members of the Arch (& Linux) community!

  • Bug fix list for JDev 10.1.2

I would like to know if exists any bug fix list for JDev 10.1.2, and where I can find it, if exists.
    Thanks in advanced.

Hi Shay, of cours Chris is right. The main reasons for this is
    1. We need to convince our management to invest in the efforts to update to a new version, find workarounds for new bugs, make complete tests of our product, update the installed base, ....
    2. We need to check if there are any unknown but critical fixed and we need to update our installed base.
    3. We need to decide how fast we need to update installed base.
    4. If there are 998 IDE bugs fixed and only one BC4J and one UIX bug, i think we will wait for the 10g final release...
Like most engineering teams in the world we have to fight with limited resources, so there is no chance to spend much time without a real need.
    Thanks, Markus
Btw. Even for the Oracle Database release there is always a list of fixed bugs. And this list also most often really scares me.

  • No importing fixes work for me.... help please! My job is on the line!

    Ok, the specs first...
    G5 desktop w/ OSX 10.3.9
    iMovie HD (5.0.2)
    QT 7
    Sony HDR-FX1
Problem: Same as several posts I've read- iMovie sees and communicates with the camera, but WILL NOT import anything... Lots of people with the same problem, but the difference is that NONE of the fixes worked for me.
I tried the GarageBand / Audio/MIDI Setup fix. Nothing. I tried trashing preferences. Nothing. I tried resetting the PRAM. Nothing. Unplugging the computer for a while, power cycling the computer and camera, switching Firewire cables, switching Firewire ports, examining all options on the camera.... nothing!
I even tried using the Quicktime 6 re-installer. I downloaded it, began the installation, and it ended up telling me I couldn't reinstall because I didn't have a valid version of Quicktime on my machine! I was sitting there looking at QT 7!!!
Now my job is on the line because I have video assets that are due! Can anyone help me? I know it should be working because it did momentarily the first time I tried it... imported the HDV signal like a champ... until I went to stop the import and edit my video. Then viola... iMovie crashes and all goes downhill from there.
Anyone with any help would be sainted in my book. Thanks for reading...

You say you've tried different FireWire ports on the G5 ..but that often seems to be the problem ..or the fix!
Do you have a 3rd-party FireWire card installed in the G5..? If so, try connecting the cam to one of those ports instead of the built-in ports. Or try pulling out the 3rd-party card, and then try the built-in ports.
Do you have someone else's codec installed? Toast? Flip4Mac? To avoid those, try creating a new User (..System Preferences>Accounts and press the + at the bottom of the left pane..) then log in as that User instead, and see if it works. If so, you have conflicting software in your main User account.
However, it's not usually that: it's most often (..with a G5..) a hardware (FW port) problem, by all accounts. [..Even the Apple Store in London couldn't get their FX1 to work with their G5 when I wanted a demo of import times!..]
So there has to be a solution (my FX1 works fine with PowerBooks and a Mac mini, but I don't have a G5) ..I'd suspect a bad interaction between different ports - or recently-connected FW hardware - on the G5.
P.S: "..Then viola... iMovie crashes and all goes downhill from there.." Try removing the viola; it takes up too much space. Try a violin.

  • [SOLVED] Kernel bug? Need help soon!

After a reboot my arch linux install wont log in anymore... When I enter my username and password at the prompt I get a flash of a screen and then the login prompt again, if I type in my username and such again it doesn't do anything... It just sits there...
The same goes for gdm and such.
I think the screen that flashes up (it's only a second there) is this one:

It seems like the above is an incredible obscure error message which should tell you that you've got a corrupted file system...
I had already ran fsck a couple of times and it always told me all my filesystems were ok, but desperate as I was I ran it once more on all my filesystems and now it fixed a bunch of errors on my home partition and arch booted... I don't really understand why fsck didn't do so the first time, but I'm happy I can finally boot arch again and continue working.
    Sorry for this useless-after-all post.

  • Can anyone make --this fix-- work for the FONT rendering issue?

I found this bug report and proposed fix on the webkit buglist:
    http://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14070
Here is a link that one says can be used to fix the
    rendering issue with bold fonts.
If anyone can make this work for Safari 3 on XP please let me know....
Here are the text and link to the how to:
You can fix rendering issues by changing language for non-Unicode programs. The
    instruction:
    http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/handson/user/xpintlsupp.mspx#EVE
You should restart system after applying setting.
    Hope this helps someone
If not, then call apple support and complain....
maybe if their support phones are getting hot... then they
    will fix this horrible bug

I don't believe this is a support issue, it's rather a Bugdev issue. Use the Bug-Report field in Safari to report this directly to the engineers. I also think the bug is known and will be solved, it's therefore not really in the range of AppleCare. (Beta Software is usually unsupported!)

  • [Solved] Kernel BUG at include/linux/netdevice.h:501, and sky2?

So, ever since a certain point in time between kernel 3.11.x and now (3.12.5-1), I have been getting this strangely inconsistent error on bootup. I would estimate that about 3 out of every 4 reboots leads to this error message, and the bootup process terminates in a black screen and what (appears) to be a system hang. However I CTL+ALT+F2, log in, and I output dmesg to a boot log, and everything my eyes have seen is now your visual property as well. The remaining 25% of my reboots patches through and boots directly to my window manager successfully. Now the output seems to be screaming to me "sky2 is the culprit", as EIP seems to be pointing in its general direction at the time of error.  However, I am more inclined to believe that my hardware's interaction with the driver is more likely to be responsible. If sky2 was actually a real problem, I doubt I would be the only one complaining about this. Nonetheless, I am quite vexed, and would greatly appreciate anbody's help here. Much appreciated, and perhaps I can provide you with some other (perhaps) useful information:

UPDATE: So I ran some low level troubleshooting and decided to test out the linux-lts (3.10.24-1-lts) kernel. No problems at all. Everything works fine with my ethernet adapter and the sky2 module. It just appears that something occurred in the newer kernels to break the interface for at least one Marvell adapter. This solution works for now, but I suppose I should file a bug report eventually. In the meantime, any insight is welcome.

  • Possible iOS 5.0.1 battery fix - worked for me...

Hey everyone, I posted earlier about how iOS 5.0.1 was draining the battery on my iPhone 4.  Since there are a bazillion comments/threads, I figured I'd post it here.  Just like all of you, I upgraded to 5.0.1 and noticed - especially over the last few days - that the battery was draining rapidly.  I had no idea why, so last night, I let my battery drain & then charged it. Alas, this morning, I lost 20 percent (with virtually no use of the phone) in no time.  So, I searched a few of the forums and found a possible solution.  Needless to say, this WORKED for me.  Since I did this and then fully charged my iPhone this morning, the battery has been back to normal.  Here goes:
Go to Settings --> General --> Reset (at the bottom)  and then select "Reset All Settings."  This WON'T reset your entire phone (you'll still have your apps, messages, etc.) but will reset some of the more general settings.  When I did it, I had to reselect the language, set up my wifi again, and a couple of other things (a ringtone or two).  It took a few minutes, and I was up and running...and still am!
Like I said, this definitely seems to have fixed the problem - no trip to the Apple Store or "factory reset" via iTunes necessary.  I hope it works for you all - let me know if it does.

    Thanks for the link
Ok, last question: I know how to restore my phone without a back up. If I do this will I lose my installed apps and music? I have all of my mp3's so worst case scenario I can put those back in my itunes. What about the apps that I have purchased? Thanks for your help!

  • Feature/Bug Fix list for 10.2.0.4

I know 10.2.0.4 is expected in July. I'm currently running 10.2.0.3 and interested in it because it has a fix for Bug 5082178 - "Bind peeking may occur when it should not." I'm interested in knowing what other improvements it contains.
Can anyone point me to a list of features and bugs planned for the 10.2.0.4 release?
    Thanks,

The README/ Metalink note for the patchset should include the list of all the bugs that are fixed. I don't believe Oracle publishes the set of bug fixes that will actually be part of the patchset until much closer to the release date since bugs fixes get added and removed during the final testing process.

  • [SOLVED] Kernel Bug on CIFS.umount

    Hello there,
my PC's been haunted by this for at least a year, I suspect it has something to do with removed support for '_netdev' mount options in cifs mounts,
    anyways
    1. what is the/a appropriate way to mount and umount a samba share on startup/shutdown using a persistent wired ethernet connection
    2. does this kernel bug log mean anything to anyone (esp why is the sound timer involved ?) http://pastebin.com/tuxZse6z
    thx

right now I have a network share in fstab

    rc.conf:

it mounts correctly but fails to umount on reboot/shutdown
@Zariel: does backgrounding apply to shutdown(umount) also ?

  • Since upgrading to V4 all my bookmarks are missing and none of the posted 'fixes' work for me. What do I do now?

Since upgrading to v4 it seems that all of my bookmarks have not been copied across. I've tried the fixes posted to restore them but they don't work for me. I can find the bookmarks folder in Windows but it won't import.
My system is running Win XP SP3 with Pentium dual core processor with 1 Gb of RAM.

Sorry, cor-el, but none of the suggestions worked. I tried deleting the more recent backups created by Firefox so that it would re-build the bookmarks from an earlier backup, but even this failed.
I'm going to try uninstalling Firefox 4 altogether then re-installing after first saving the last 'good' version of my bookmarks back-ups somewhere safe and replacing them later. I'll let you know how it goes.
If this doesn't work and unless someone can come up with a fix, I have to reconcile myself to the prospect that this latest version has trashed my bookmarks never to return - much to my disappointment and disgust. Firefox has never done this before and for me it has 'lost its edge' as a preferred brower.

  • [SOLVED]Xorg won't work for my non root user

I installed Arch Linux 2009.08 x86_64 Core inside Sun VirtualBox 3.0.8 and got up to the part of the Beginners' Guide that tells me to test X and it can never work for my non root user. Funny thing is, I tried running it as root and it worked even though my root user has no ~/.xinitrc file. Running startx or xinitrc as my non root user I get a small (maybe 400x600) white terminal but can't use my mouse or keyboard.
After looking over the guide and doing a step I forgot and adding in all of the extra stuff the guide says might help I can use my mouse and keyboard in my non root users' small white terminal but X still won't start properly with xterm even though I put 'exec exterm' in my non root users' ~/.xinitrc file. Please help. Thanks for any help guys.

I don't get it .. this sounds like xterm is starting up successfully (xterm is a small white terminal). Easiest way to get X up and running (imo) is
sudo pacman -S gnome gdm xorg xf86-input-evdev
    sudo /etc/rc.d/hal start
    sudo /etc/rc.d/gdm start
I didn't know that's what xterm was, thanks for telling me. Noob mistake.

  • [SOLVED] Lancelot doesn't work for KDE 4.5.1

When I try to add the Lancelot widget I get the error message "lancelot_launcher not found". Interestingly, when I downgrade the lancelot package to:
    kdeplasma-addons-applets-lancelot-4.4.5
it works ok. I noticed the files and their locations have changed between the old and the new packages (4.4.5 vs 4.5.1) and wonder if this needs a fix?
    thanks.

Running kbuildsycoca4 didn't work, and I do have /usr/lib/kde4/plasma_applet_lancelot_launcher.so on my system. Whether I try to add lancelot to the panel or the desktop, it's still no soup for me!
    I notice that the 4.5.x package doesn't have the /usr/lib/liblancelot.so, /usr/lib/liblancelot.so.0, and
/usr/lib/liblancelot.so.1.7.0 files in it, but the 4.4.5 package does. Shouldn't those be in the 4.5.x package as well? I filed a bug report on this.

  • IDVD 08 latest fix worked for me

As of last night, I did the software upgrade on iDVD 08 - family version - my sign on would not open at all - I have been making dvds on my husband's sign on...
did the major fix and now all is well - it has been exactly 30 days waiting for this correction to the
    idvd 08 software...
    hopefully no more "bugs"

    hopefully no more "bugs"
    Wishful thinking perhaps?

  • [SOLVED] netctl transition not working for me

    Hi,
Following the latest news I tried to switch from netcfg to netctl but can't get it to work..
my netctl profile, similar to my netcfg one:
Description='A simple WPA encrypted wireless connection using a static IP'
    Interface=wlan0
    Connection=wireless
    Security='wpa-config'
    WPAConfigFile='/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf'
    IP=static
    Address='192.168.0.5'
    Gateway='192.168.0.254'
    result:
    # netctl start wirelessHome
Job for [email protected] failed. See 'systemctl status [email protected]' and 'journalctl -xn' for details.
    # journalctl -xn

Good & no big deal, I have added a sentence for it in the wiki. The error message is not perfect but not too bad either in my view. It does point toward the gateway. Strange I find that the systemd journal references a documentation link that then leads to a 404 page which does not give much clue how to continue there. The feature with the message_ID itself is awesome, but I'm sure the too plain 404 template at freedesktop has a great hit count (not for netctl, but in general)..

  • [SOLVED] 56k, pppd (what worked for me w/ HOWTOs via links).

I took note to print out the 40+ page Wiki manual in regards to installing Arch, and while the majority of it looks like the same old, same old, sadly there's no real mention of going about handling a PPP connection. Yes, it's very doable on this particular system - I've a base phone line dedicated to data transmission as I'm living in an area without cable or DSL. The amount of time it takes to download X and it's children doesn't mean much to me.
On looking through the forums, I've found several posts in which possibly -could- help, but none of which have actually followed through. There's been a post in regards to installing PPP with an already existing connection (cable connection), and as a result that knocks me out of said water. There's also a posting a few people mention with a dialup walkthrough available on the Wiki, however said document no longer exists anytime anyone offers a link to it.
I've tried grabbing wvdial and wvstreams, and have successfully copied them to disc per extracting the data first (see http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=44287 ), but on trying to install these through what I expect to be the usual methods (GCC: /configure, make, make install), naturally there is no compiler component available in the install and ./configure just laughs.
I can't utilize any pacman resources, as I have no connection to download anything in Arch currently. I want to learn Arch, but I feel a bit left out in the cold here on 56k island.
Any resources I could use to help me with setup of a 56k on Arch? I feel I'd have it comfortably with the Wiki article from that point forward, I'm just stuck at the after-install with this.

    Pudge:
I've three modems on this particular box, all for various reasons and one of those reasons being testing purposes while under various Linux distros.
The modem I'm currently using is a serial Zoom modem, hardware-based.
I also have a Zoom USB modem which is a software-based modem, but, as it said on the box, the modem does come with Linux drivers. I have successfully used the Zoom USB modem in Ubuntu and Sabayon, but I have not tried the modem under Arch.
I also have an Intel 536EP Winmodem, which does have drivers available for it under Linux. I know this driver functioned with the preloaded driver under Mepis and my manually loaded driver under Sabayon Linux, however I have not tested this modem with Arch.
I believe there is a 536 (and if my memory serves me correctly, a 537) compressed driver package available somewhere online. While I'd try to install the modems and give them a shot, and I may sooner or later if the interest hits me, right now I can't say I'm too interested in messing with a good thing. I haven't heard of the modems not working with the newer kernels, though.. that's interesting.
In regards to the tutorial, I really can't say much more than the two links provided above by others already give. As a default, pppd is installed from the Arch CD with an editable file regarding it's configuration (/etc/ppp/options):
    lock
    modem
    /dev/ttyS1
    57600
    debug
    noauth
    defaultroute
    noipdefault
    user username
    password password
connect "chat -v \'\' ATZ OK ATDTnumberofisp CONNECT"
.. /dev/ttyS1 being the modem's port (COM2), the user listing the username, the password listing the password, and the numberofisp being the number of the ISP you're dialing..
As well as adding the following in /etc/ppp/chap-secrets:
    \"username\" * \"password\"
.. essentially allowed me to connect with no errors. No idea whether or not chap-secrets was necessary considering the username and password are already stated in /etc/ppp/options, but it's suitable for my connection currently until I find out differently.
Again, I may try to install the modems, but I won't guarantee it. I hope I've helped somehow though.
