[Solved]Manually configure repo package
Alright so I'm trying to enable epiphany browser for use with webkit2 and every source I find online tells me to download the epiphany tar.xz package and configure it via:
./configure --with-webkit2
make
make install
and while this did work for me pacman does not recognize this manual installation. I'm wondering if there is any way to have pacman download and install the package from the official repos while also enabling the '--with-webkit' flag or something to that effect. Or if i can reconfigure the pkg.tar.xz archive and just Pacman -U it.
I have tried googling and I've gone through the wiki pages on Pacman and PKGBUILDS but have had no luck. I don't know if I'm missing something or if I'm just too tired for this right now but I really would like some help

You read the page on PKGBUILDS but did not find an answer? I am not sure I understand.
How about you just check the AUR, last I checked there was a webkit2 PKGBUILD there.
I see a webkit2pdf package but that is not what I want. when you download and install from source and run './configure --with-webkit2' it goes through configuration and spits out:
Epiphany was configured with the following options:
Source code location : .
Compiler : gcc
Prefix : /usr
Extra debugging support : no
Build tests : yes
Code coverage : no
GObject introspection : no
NSS support : yes
WebKit2 : yes
I already have all of the packages necessary I just need to configure epiphany to use webkit2 by default for flashplugin to work properly. I just want to see if I can have pacman configure it that way upon installation

[Solved] Automatically Configure Certain Kernel Options?
I've been using linux-ck for a while, and have been tweaking a few minor options related to the processor with nconfig each time [The processor family, the preempt type and the timer frequency]. I would like to be able to set these options automatically since they've proved to increase performance slightly while still resulting in a stable system. However, I'm not sure which option(s) in the config file the preemption model changes, which I would need in order to automate this. I'm also wondering if there be any potential negative consequences for automating the configuration of such options.
These are the settings I've been using [and wish to automatically set] for my two machines:
Laptop [Core i3; x86_64]
Processor Family: Core2
Frequency: 1000 Hz
Server [2 x Athlon MP; i686]
Processor Family: K7
Preemption: None
Frequency: 100 Hz
I've been able to autoconfigure the laptop with this sed command:
sed -i -e 's/CONFIG_HZ_300=y/# CONFIG_HZ_300 is not set/g' -i -e 's/# CONFIG_HZ_1000 is not set/CONFIG_HZ_1000=y/g' -i -e 's/# CONFIG_MCORE2 is not set/CONFIG_MCORE2=y/g' -i -e 's/CONFIG_GENERIC_CPU=y/# CONFIG_GENERIC_CPU is not set/g' .config
I know what to substitute for the frequency and family for my server, but diffing my server's config against the default one has quite a few changed options, which leads me to believe that the preempt setting in nconfig changes more than one option. Anyone with a better understanding of how the kernel's configuration works know how to accomplish this?

@op - my advice is not to use a sed command unless you spot-check it against a manually configured one. If you're compiling linux-ck, just switch on the "_use_current=y" option.
## DETAILS FOR _use_current="y"
# Enabling this option will use the .config of the RUNNING kernel rather than the ARCH defaults.
# Useful when the package gets updated and you already went through the trouble of customizing your
# config options. NOT recommended when a new kernel is released, but again, convenient for package bumps.
The comment saying that it wasn't recommended made me a little skeptical about using that option. [Though I was thinking 'Hey, that does exactly what I'm looking for!']
By new kernel, is it referring to major versions [Like 3.1.x -> 3.2.x] or minor ones [like 3.1.x -> 3.1.y]? Having to use nconfig once per major version wouldn't bother me at all, but it's a little annoying when I've had to do it with every minor version/release bump.
Slightly Offtopic: For the -corex repo package the only thing you're changing from the generic one is the processor family, correct? [I'm wanting the optimizations, but prefer to build from source] -
Custom configuration of packages
Is it possible for a custom configuration of packages?
For example, dwm has no configuration file for customization but instead make all customization via a C header file that gets built into the binary. Obviously in this example it would require the ability to build from source. Is that something pacman can handle? I know that NetBSD's pkgsrc allows either installing binary packages or compiling from source and the latter allows for customization (for example, using inet6 for nmap).pacman installs packages that are build by makepkg from PKGBUILDs. If you can make a PKGBUILD that suits your tastes - whether via configure options, some sed magic or otherwise - you'll get a package that suits your needs.
There are many packages in the AUR that are a variation of some package from the official repo, e.g. mplayer: You've got
- mplayer-minimal-svn,
- mplayer-mt-lite,
- mplayer-mt-oss-git,
- mplayer-vdpau-svn
and many others. -

[SOLVED]Error during "Install packages"
Was really hoping it'd be a long time before I had to come here for help (my first Linux install), but...
I'm having trouble with the installation. The first clue is when I'm preparing the hard drive:
After manually configuring the block devices, filesystems and mountpoints, there's a "Mount" window saying "Error mounting /dev/sdb4 on /mnt/home", likewise for var and /, but otherwise completes successfully.
Then, during package installation, every single package fails:
e.g. "warning: warning given when extracting usr/share/zoneinfo/GMTO (Can't create '/mnt/usr......')"
.... (other files unsuccessfully being extracted)
Installation failed
and so on for the rest of the packages.
My source is the official 2011.08 core image on a flash drive (/dev/sda1/) writing to an external hdd (/dev/sdb1, etc). I've searched the forums and the wiki and google but haven't been able to figure it out. Somehow the partitions aren't accessible to pacman, perhaps?
Hopefully I'm not missing something really obvious...

Filesize of a repo-package differs from an own build package
hi all
I have some problems playing back audio-CD's with the newest
xine-lib-1.1.5-2.pkg.tar.gz. Xine-ui, gxine and amarok are crashing.
Thats why I started to build my own xine-lib-package. Tested some different
configure-settings without success. But that's not the point for me.
If I build the package with exactly the PKGBUILD from abs I get a difference
in filesize between the repo-package and my own build.
I always thought, that the filesize after build must be identical?
Didn't changed any compilersettings and the system is up to date.
ls -al /var/cache/pacman/pkg/xine-lib-1.1.5-2.pkg.tar.gz

How do I manually configure a Timecapsule after having restored it to original settings?
I have been experiencing very slow wifi speeds over my wireless and having done some research on the topic, many suggest that completely eliminating previous settings by restoring the Timecapsule and manually reconfiguring it may help. I have tried to do this, but despite changing the setting to "manually configure" in the hardware settings in the airport utility, every time I restore Timecapsule and begin to configure it, it tells me that it is reading the settings from the base station.
In addition, despite removing the check mark from the "remember previously joined networks" in airport utility, it still lists my previous SSID in the list of networks.
Since the wireless speed hasn't improved at all (in fact, it has deteriorated some) I am afraid the old set ups are still there and slowing things down. How can I completely remove all previous settings from my Timecapsule, my airport express and the airport utility software and start from scratch?
Thanks. How can I completely remove all previous settings from my Timecapsule, my airport express and the airport utility software and start from scratch?
There are two parts to this answer. The first relates to performing a Factory Default Reset separately on the Time Capsule and AirPort Express. This will erase the current network settings and return them to default values. This will not affect any backups that you may have stored on the Time Capsule disk. ***
Use the information in this Apple support document for that:
Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule FAQ
Part two would be to delete the previous wireless settings on your iMac. Here's how:
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
Open Network
Open Wi-Fi or AirPort
Click Advanced at the lower right of the window
Click on the name of a wireless network that you no longer need to highlight it
Click the - (minus) button at the bottom of the list to delete it
Do the same for other networks that you no longer need
Click OK, then click Apply
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > KeyChain Access
Click on the name of a wireless network that you want to delete to highlight it
Click the Delete key on your keyboard
Do the same for other networks that you no longer need
Close KeyChain Access
*** If you need to erase the Time Capsule disk completely, post back for additional instructions. We need to know which version of AirPort Utility you are using to provide specific details. -

do the same procedure again in the reverse way to transer the information from one system to other system and vice versa.
next step is to generate partner profiles.

Hi All,
To configure SSIS packages out of these SQL Server Standard, Web and Workgroup editions which is preferred?
Grateful to your time and support. Regards, ShivaHi Shiva,
SSIS designer and runtime, basic transforms, and data profiling tools are only supported by Standard and higher editions. Besides, some advanced SSIS adapters such as High performance Oracle/Teradata destination and Dimension processing destination adapter
are only supported in Enterprise edition. So, if you need to develop/modify SSIS packages on this server, Standard or even Enterprise editor is recommended.

Mail 3 manual configuration?
How do I manually configure a new account in Mail 3? I don't want to automatically figure out my settings. I want to tell it what my settings are.
I want to create a new mail account without using the help that comes up automatically when you choose new account under file. How can I just get an account screen that looks like it does after you have created an account but that I can enter the information myself without the automatic program that asks the questions?
Thank you very much. -

[Solved]Cannot install any package with pacman
Hi,
today i tried a system update via pacman -Syu and i get these error messages
Konnte Datei 'curl-7.19.6-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz' nicht von ftp.archlinux.org übertragen : File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)
so it seems that these files are not on the servers
i have already tried different mirrors even the archlinux.org one
Last edited by kanim (2009-08-18 09:08:19)It is fixed. You just need to be patient and wait for the mirrors to resync. As many mirrors need to resync all the repo packages, there are not enough bandwidth for all the mirrors. So it will take some time. ftp.archlinux.org is a mirror just like the other ones. The only difference is that we are the ones in charge of it.
For details on what happened, see:

Manual configuration - quick question!
The Dutch translation of the Airport extreme (7.1) software has a small mistake in the manual configuration part.
Under the menu "Airport" (button)
The third tab "Wireless"
There's 1 checkbox here below the "network name" text field.
What is it saying?
In Dutch we only get to see a part of the sentence.
Thanks for the help.Ok guys, found it out, it's "allow this network to be extended".

I have Mac with Lion, with an AIrport Extreme wi-fi network. I am trying to configure a Airport (model A1264) to extend the network. I read the Apple article on how to configure an extended network. Unfortunately my Airport Utility seems to have none of the functionality mentioned in the article. The article states to choose manual configuration of the base station. I can find no such option in my Airport Utility. Secondly, it the article states to check "create a wireless network," which I can find, but then says to check box to "allow this network to be extended." No such option appears anywhere in my Airport Utility. Lastly, my Mac is not even recognizing the existence of the Airport Express. It does not even appear as a wireless device, nor does it appear in Airport Utility as an "Other Airport Base Stations. It does however continue to flash amber. Does anyone know what might be the problem?
Thanks,
bmarrI read the Apple article on how to configure an extended network. Unfortunately my Airport Utility seems to have none of the functionality mentioned in the article.
The article was written a few years ago and Lion 10.7.4 was not around at the time.
I suggest that you download and install the full featured version of AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion . I think you will find that it will track with the article (if it is the one that I think it is) very nicely.
You can keep both AirPort Utility 5.6 and AirPort Utility 6.0 on your Mac.
