[SOLVED] Metacity autostart programs without GNOME

Hi,
I would like to use a session with metacity + lxpanel (starts from LXDM)
then I have edited my .dmrc:
$ cat ~/.dmrc
[Desktop]
Session=metacity
it works, but when I login my session (default) from LXDM, there is only metacity with nothing. how can I add "lxpanel" on start?
I tryed to put "lxpanel.desktop" on" ~/.config/autostart" but it doesn't work.
Someone can help me?

i have a problem with "lxde-logout" of lxpanel: it doesn't work good, when i press "logout" nothing happens ("Shutdown" and "Reboot" work)
maybe i need to edit "/etc/lxdm/PostLogout"?

[solved] Xfce4 unwanted autostarting programs

I have developed a small irritation with what i believe to be Xfce4. Upon every reboot (or cold start) of my machine. When i log into Xfce4, Chromium and a Terminal window both autostart. Chromium starts minimised and the terminal starts visable in the centre of my screen. Some information that may be relevant: Xfce 4.10, Xfwm4, Kernel 3.8.11-1-ARCH, SLiM, Xorg server 1.14.1.
I am not aware of making any changes this problem appeared out of the blue. I have checked the Session and Startup settings and the only autostart programs enabled are Power Manager and Xfsettingsd. I have checked in .config/xfce4 for an autostart folder and there isnt one. There is nothing in .xinitrc
Any help on this would be great thank you.

The main script execute several scripts , and the applications script install applications (by exemple firefox) but i don't want that pacman asks me an answer to install a program.
I want know how i can tell at pacman " install the program without my permission , without my answer" but what's the command for this ?

Auto suspend on idle without Gnome or KDE? [SOLVED]

This may be a stupid question but I've never had to actually mess with this before on a system without Gnome or KDE installed (they have their own utilities which tends to make this easy) and I've spent an hour researching to no avail.
I'm looking for a way to force the entire computer to automatically suspend to RAM after 30 minutes of no keyboard or mouse activity. I already have pm-utils and xscreensaver installed and 'pm-suspend' already works great when I call it manually but what I'm missing is a way to detect the idle and actually call 'pm-suspend' automatically. I do have HAL and udev. Of course it runs X too but there is no D.E. installed. Only various Window managers.
BTW- this is for a Desktop not a laptop if that is significant for some reason. The reason for it is basically I want this computer to suspend (to save power) at night and other times when it's not being used.

Still welcoming some help after all....
I've been attempting to use xfce4-power-manager but am having an issue where as a normal user actual power management options other than for the monitor are disabled. It works fine as root but not as a normal user.
User is a member of the power group.
Have consolekit installed.
Launching WM from .xinitrc (No Display manager such as slim) using 'exec ck-launch-session /usr/local/bin/wm'
Anything I am missing for why this wouldn't work?

How can I run an external program without quitting Firefox?

I want to run an external program from within Firefox, much as Outlook express is run from the email button. How do I set this up?
Firefox doesn't import my Bookmarks from the listed html file. Any cure for this?

I don't want to run the mail program, I want to run another program.
Maxthon allows me to do this using External Tools. Does Firefox allow me to run other programs without leaving Firefox?

Can't use backspace in ncurses programs without using ctrl

Heya
Anyone know how to use the backspace in ncurses programs without the need to press ctrl? If I don't it just gives me "^?", I've tried setting "urxvt*backarrowKey: false/true" but it doesn't help.
Any help with this annoyance would be appreciated.

Just for the heck of it, try using the number 127 instead of KEY_BACKSPACE or what ever your'e using in your if statement or select statement. I would have thought it would be the number 08 which is the ascii code for backspace but that didn't work. Try it and see if it works. If it does, I'll let you know what steps I took to try and find it.
I used the numbers 13 and 27 in my program instead of KEY_RETURN and KEY_ESC, since neither of those worked. KEY_RETURN required a <shift><return> to work properly which is similar to your problem.

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, maybe after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

Try changing the screen resolution.
Go to Apple Menu / System Preferences / Displays.
Change the resolution. Whatever numbers are shown, e.g. 1280 x 960, select a larger one. The larger the number, in the resolution the smaller the display on the screen. You can keep changing this till you find the resolution that suits you.

Run a program without command line

Hello,
I was wondering if there was a way to run a java program without compiling the code and giving the 'java' command at the command prompt.
For example, I want to put my program on a cd with all the necessary components for it to run on any windows system, regardless of whether there is any java technology already on the machine.

Ok, to create your own batch file, open notepad and then save the file with .bat instead of .txt
A batch File is a series of system commands, so, for example, if you wanted your batch to run a file located at c:\temp, the first line of your batch file should just have word.exe c:\temp\filenamehere.doc, for example, this is a line from a batchfile I made:
excel.exe g:\tmp\Andy_Test.xls
a batch file can contain many commands and they will all execute sequentially.
if you want to open your program from a cd, I would think, although I have never done it, that you should
make a batch file that reads something like:
"D:\foldername\filename"
or i guess you could simply do it on c drive like this if your java program was poop.java
"c:\myfolder\myfolder2\myfolder3\java poop"
you couild even compile it before you run it
"c:\myfolder\myfolder2\myfolder3\javac poop.java"
"c:\myfolder\myfolder2\myfolder3\java poop"
also, if your java app is a GUI, I would run it like this:
"c:\myfolder\myfolder2\myfolder3\javaw poop"

Displayed a message box then removed it by a program without user action

Can a message box be displayed by a program and then removed by the program without any user action such as clicking OK or closing the box?
If so, will you show us how to do that?
I have a non-GUI application which needs to tell the user to wait while classes and being created and data is being loaded from the network. The message needs to disappear when the program is ready.

RamyaWhy do you ask? It sounds like an odd question. Your program can be an applet and it doesn't need a main method in that case.

Yes, there is no need to keep previous versions of software on the SSD (or on your computer).
Also, you didn't mention this but if the photos are on the SSD, you should move them off the SSD to a regular hard disk using these instructions: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders
