[SOLVED] MPD clients slow connecting
I've noticed an slow response by first time client->server connecting on my fresh Arch installation.
akill@arx ~ % time mpc
System ot a Down - Aerials
[playing] #2/2 0:36/3:55 (15%)
volume: 61% repeat: off random: off single: on consume: off
mpc 0.00s user 0.00s system 0% cpu 5.145 total
Like you see simple mpc call needs 5 seconds, same for ncmpcpp. This only applies when client is starting, so after the client connects it works normal like play, pause, switch song...
There are no log errors, my /etc/mpd.conf is the same one from my netbook and there it works fine.
Thanks in advance.

Possibly not related (but maybe helpful if someone stumbles upon this in the future); but mine started to take ~30 seconds to connect as well. Turned out that having ip6tables set to drop all connections resulted in it waiting for connection on ::1 to timeout before attempting ipv4.

[Solved] MPD clients connect to server too long first time
When my system start mpd clients cannot connect to server a long(10-15 seconds or more) for some reason.
Same time internet connection and network seems to be ok.
So, It's look like I run mpc for example and it get stuck. This problem is new. 2-4 weeks or less.
I've tried use user and global config without any success.
Mpd config now look like this:
music_directory "/home/neg/music"
playlist_directory "/home/neg/.mpd/playlists"
db_file "/home/neg/.mpd/mpd.db"
log_file "/home/neg/.mpd/mpd.log"
pid_file "/home/neg/.mpd/mpd.pid"
state_file "/home/neg/.mpd/mpdstate"
sticker_file "/home/neg/.mpd/sticker.sql"

input {
plugin "curl"

My netctl profile looks like this:
Description='A basic dhcp ethernet connection'
Interface=enp6s0
Connection=ethernet
SkipNoCarrier=yes
IP=static
DNS=('192.168.1.1')
Address=('192.168.1.35/24')
Gateway='192.168.1.1'
## for DHCPv6
#IP6=dhcp
## for IPv6 autoconfiguration
#IP6=stateless
System start looks almost normal. USB reinit after uefi takes a lot of time sometimes, but it's not critical.

[SOLVED] mpc won't connect to mpd
Hi.
I'm having some troubles with mpd. It used to work fine, but now it is really finicky and has a hard time opening port 6600.
I can get it to start, but none of the clients can connect to it.
First off, here's mpd.conf:
music_directory "/media/external/music"
playlist_directory "/media/external/music"
db_file "/var/log/mpd/mpd.db"
log_file "/var/log/mpd/mpd.log"
error_file "/var/log/mpd/mpd.error"
pid_file "/var/run/mpd/mpd.pid"
user "root" #yeah...I'll change that later
bind_to_address "localhost"
port "6600"
audio_output
type "alsa"
name "My ALSA Device"
mixer_type "software"
When I run mpd, it returns this:
unable to bind port 6600: Cannot assign requested address
maybe MPD is still running?
This happens if I use 127.0.0.1, localhost, or JORDAN (my hostname). If I use 192.168.1.101 (my local IP) it will start without complaining.
Here's my hosts file in case it might be wrong:
#<ip-address> <hostname.domain.org> <hostname>
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
127.0.0.1 JORDAN
So, let's assume I have used
bind_to_address "192.168.1.101"
and everything seems to be cool.
I try to open a playlist using mpc:
mpc load a
it gives me this:
error: timeout in attempting to get a response from "192.168.1.101" on port 6600
I've looked around and found a few people with similar problems, but they either got no answers or got solutions that didn't work for me. Any help is appreciated.

I don't know if your hosts file is correct or not, but you can simply do:
#<ip-address> <hostname.domain.org> <hostname>
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost JORDAN
I assume you also have the hostname set in rc.conf and lo is enabled? -
DataInputStream with slow client side connection
I need to stream some data to client. server pushes all messages once connection is established over internet.
but when internet connection is slow (like wireless). i see lot more messages in receive Queue on client side. then for a brief period of time, server stops sending messages (may be due to socket channel is full or something)
so it looks like application is stealth mode. then all of sudden application starts consuming messages (may be when that channel gets empty)
any idea how to fix this slow connection issue? i don't care if client drops certain messages. how can i flush or empty out that socket channel ?
below is the code snippet that i am using...
try {
InputStream is = new URL(streamerUrl).openStream();
ds = new DataInputStream(new BufferedInputStream(is));
parseBody(ds);
} catch (IOException ex) {
logger.error(ex.getMessage());
}My decision was to send acknowledge and if server side can't get to acknowledge it will skip all new messages.If the server can't get an acknowledgment it can only mean that the connection has failed, which will manifest itself to the server as an IOException: 'connection reset' on a write. The acknowledgement adds nothing except latency and more bandwidth usage.
So why not skip message while network lacking.I agree, but why not use what the network is already telling you, rather than adding more messages and more failure modes? Now it's the client that has to look out for connection resets. You've just moved the problem. -
[SOLVED] mpdscribble refuses to connect to mpd.
mpc and ncmpcpp work just fine. Both pick up $MPD_HOST, which points to a unix socket in my home folder. No passwords. A while ago, mpdscribble stopped working, and today I finally looked into it and it turns out that it can't connect to mpd. The only thing I get in the logs is "Dec 15 00:10:47 hydra mpdscribble[23667]: mpd error (5): Connection refused", over and over.
Any idea what might be wrong, or where I can get better logs? That's with --verbose=3, by the way.

ARD 3.7.2 very slow connection on Lan
I'm running ARD 3.7.2 on MacBook Air (OSX 10.9.2) to connect mac mini (8gb / osx 10.9.2) very slow connection on LAN.
Mini connected to LAN 100Mbit Ethernet, MacBook connection is wi-fiOk, I solved it after doing some extensive Google searching. Still not sure why ARD went bonkers, but here's my fix.
1. Download the ARD 3.7.1 client drom the Apple downloads page and install it manually on the client machine.
2. Go back to the administrator machine and delete the computer client from the computers list.
3. From the scanners list, find the now visible client machine (it will probably say "no user name or password" next to it) and drag it to the computer list.
4. When you drag it over it will ask for the username and password. Fill in an administrator user name and password for that computer, click OK and you're done.
Still a mystery as to why ARD software itself will not create new client packages. I still haven't figured that part out. Downloading the standard client package from Apple is the only work around I know of so far. Good luck. -

Exchange 2013 - Prevent Outlook Clients From Connecting To A CAS Server In A Different AD Site
Hi all,
I could really do with your help!
We have 3 physical sites, A, B & C, with sites A & B having a really fast low latency links between them, so from an AD point of view they are 1 site. Site C has links to both sites A & B, but the link is a lot slower.
We have an exchange design with 3 servers (one located at each physical site) that will form a DAG spread over the 3 physical sites. Ideally we will separate the CAS and mailbox server roles out and have them controlled by a hardware load balancer,
however we can have both roles on the same server if required.
What we want, is to prevent is a situation where an outlook client in site C connects to a CAS server in site A/B with the mail being hosted on a mailbox server in site C therefore traversing the network twice to get its mail.
From doing the Microsoft training course, my understanding is that in Exchange 2013, the CAS server only proxy's the request on to the mailbox server and does not redirect the request to the CAS server in the site where the mailbox server resides.
I have seen information online stating that a single namespace is the way to go as long as your site links/network bandwidth is good, but nothing to help with our scenario.
Has anyone else come across this situation and how did you get round it?
Thanks in advance :)Hi Johnson,
Based on my knowledge, Outlook Client will connect to the CAS server which in local first.
Please check whether the CAS server that in site C is healthy.
If the CAS server in site C is healthy, please disable the CAS Load Balance for testing.

Hello There,
I have a homehub v2. For 2 years no problem always connected wirelessly, home hub situated next to computer.
For the past week very slow connecting to Broadband sometimes won't connect at all until with a bit of fiddling it does
I have for 5 days connected by ethernet cable but still no difference, once connected speed seems fine.
All the lights on hub are blue the hub is left on 24/7
The hub is in a extension socket installed by BT(not recently) with a filter. I have rebooted the hub, turned off at mains etc,
Can anyone advise me further Thanks Patty-L

Can you also post the full results fromBT Speedtest speedtester.bt.com
Have you tried connecting to the test socket at the rear of the master socket
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

I have slow connect speed when using the WRT160N. I have tried every thing, done dianogstics on connection, router, modem, thru three diffeant software, norton, windows, system machinics. when ising the router some days the speed is amost like using dial up
I use XP, on both a laptop desk top, up to date drivers, both cna use wifi or direct connection by cat 5e, 3 m of ram, a wimax internet server,,,,, (company called Bridge Maxx)
But when I stop using the router and connect directly to the modem no problem works fine,,,,, not sure what to do........ just need my wifi back,,,,so i cna work,Whats the Version number of your Router, If you have having version2 router, then there is an knows issue with Version2 Router. Downgrading to Build 8 is generally accepted to correct these issues, however Linksys have indicated to several people they do not have the build 8 firmware to give to end users.
This is ONLY for WRT160N V2 routers. This firmware will not work on WRT160N V1.
You can find it at http://audipages.com/router/
Follow the dowload and firmware downgrade instructions on that page.
Once you upgrade the firmware of your router, you need to Reset your Router and Re-Configure all the settings on it back again. Once you do the settings on your router i think this should solve your problem. -
Snow Leopard Server's slow connection when connected to AirPort Exteme
Hi,
I've been experiencing slow connections ever since I hooked up my Mac Pro server directly(via ethernet) to my AirPort Extreme. Previously, the Mac Pro is connected to a switch, the AE is connected to this switch as well. Everything's fine until we decided to connect the Mac Pro server to the AE directly. Now we are having slow connection and checking Network Utility, it shows that en0 is receiving errors when previously there is none. I have connected a client computer on the same cable and it receives no errors. It's just the server that's receiving these errors. To clarify thing up my server's network configuration is as follows:
IP address: 10.0.1.201
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Router: 10.0.1.1
DNS: 10.0.1.201
Search domain: example.net
I have configured my DNS server to use 10.0.1.1(AE's IP) as the Forwarder IP address so that my server and other client computers can still connect to the internet.
Checking the client computers connected on the same network, they are experiencing slow connections to the server as well.
There must be something that I need to set on this thing to make things work, any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks and regards,
AndrewI forgot to check my cables. Apparently they have used crossed-cable for the previous Mac Pro to switch connection. After connecting the server to our AirPort Extreme things got a little sticky, using a straight cable did the trick.

All the three servers are using the same configuration, so, I'm afraid it's not possible to give you a simple answer. You will need more troubleshooting.
I would recommend you to start by checking the differences between the servers because one of those differences is certainly causing the failure.
Also, it would be helpful to get traffic captures on the TenGig interface of the ACE to compare the behavior of the connection when going to the different servers, as well as the differences when being load-balanced vs accessing the server directly.
If you need help with this troubleshooting, you can always open a TAC service request

8.8 Client cannot connect to Windows Server 2008 error -1102
SAP Business On 8.8 on PL 18
This is not the first time I have had this issue with Windows Server 2008.
however everytime the resolution was diffrent. Now this site is causing trouble.
The issue is the client cannot connect. We have the log on window, can see the company list. type on the password and we get a -1102 error.
The client on the Server itself can log on. It is the cleints that cannot.
I checked these below.
1 SQL Native client is installed and ok.
2. Licence server is configured and ok
3. The user has admin access to locl PC
4. The SAP user name and password are correct ( client on server can connect fine )
5. The ports 1433, 30000 and 30001 are open on the server.
6. Through SQL server configuration the named pipes and TCP are enabled.
7. SQL server browser is running
The only things I have not tried are
The Firewall is running on the server and I have not yet stopped it. Will try that tomorrow.
Do you have any other ideas please ?I have got this working but I am not confidant of the outcome - yet - I really need your expert advise here.
This is what I did. In that order.
1. As Owen suggested I checked if there was a specified Port for the instance. What I found was TCP Dynamic ports were enabled ( SQL server config manager | network configuration | tcp properties ) and there was no TCP port specified. Assuming ( ai may be wrong) that the system assigns a dynamic port to this instance I set it up so the Dynamic port does not happen and manually specified the Port 1433. Restarted the SQL Service. ( still having the Port 1433 open in the firewall). This did not solve the issue.
2. With the above setting still on, switched off the firewall. Went to the PC client and SAP can log on now. Now keeping the SAP client running, switched on the Firewall on the server. Log off SAP on PC client and log back in ( with firewall off ). SAP now can log on.
3. I had to do the above step for all PCs to get them working.
4. Currently the firewall is on and clients can connect
So what could be happening? I have no clue. It is apparent there is some setting that gets saved within the PCs ( may be user profile) after the first log on with the Firewall off - to say its safe ?
However I have no idea what will happen if the server is restarted u2013 this server we cannot restart any time we want as itu2019s a critical server and runs other things.
I would still like to get to the bottom of this to understand what is happening.
I have a SAP message running too and will ask them this same question. -
Client wont connect to closest AP
hi every one
this is the second post. the first one is missing!
long story short, client connection is random. doesnt connect to the closest AP.
i have situation like 40 clients connected to one AP and 2 meter away an AP only servicing 4 !
i have wlc 5508 and 100 AP. i tried aggressive load balancing and end up having more issue! tried restrict an AP to 25 but no use i can see some AP servicing 40 clients no matter what i define. i disabled the slow data rate nothing happened. i have none CCX clients but on few CCX client no difference and same result
is there anyone who can tell me how to force the client to connect to closest AP?
really frustrated , thanks for your comments.HI Leo
Thanks. I think you are making a valid point. here we are a school and have multiple brand laptops. some of them has the aggressive mobility feature. some dont. I start to play with a test machine and see if it actually makes a difference
on the WLC the DCA is set to auti but the TPCv2 is enabled. I changed it to v1 and im going to test it now. I'll keep you posted as soon as the test finished.

Mpd clients disconnecting too often
For about a month I can see a weird issue with mpd: from time to time (about 10 to 10 minutes) sonata (and any other client) loses connection to mpd, then reconnects.
Yesterday I installed mpdscribble for submitting my tracks to last.fm and watching the log I can see "Broken pipe. Illegal seek." every 6-7 lines.
is there anyone having the same problem or do you know a solution to this? thanksRasi wrote:have you checked, if pulseaudio was running at that time already?
Yes, pulseaudio seems to be ok at that moment.
Also I have such thing in the log ~2 minutes

Also I've tried to set port manually in ncmpcpp, then log messages are NOT gone.
I've already tried alsa-only config. Same issue.
When daemon is "running" clients of it are not response ~1-2 minute.
